I had my first bikini wax appointment with MandaLynn last week, and I'll be making many happy returns. Yes, you read the sentence correctly - I had a pleasant, spa-like experience during my bikini wax! MandaLynn has a clinical approach toward her practice, balanced by her warm and welcoming demeanor. She reviewed my wishes upon my arrival (I like somewhere between a Brazilian and a bikini wax); wore gloves; never double-dipped the wax; and was uniquely discreet and respectful throughout the treatment. Further, she made eye contact with me as we conversed, which added another level of humanity to an experience that can be inherently uncomfortable. I felt very taken care of: in advance of the particularly sensitive (read: painful) parts of the wax, she encouraged me to breathe in, one, two, three; out, one, two, three for two cycles. Upon swiftly removing the wax, she immediately applied pressure to the area and said encouragingly, "Good job!" Of note, though, 90% of the experience was practically painless; the other 10% was just barely uncomfortable. MandaLynn has over 20 years of experience waxing, and uses a lavender hard wax (meaning, the wax hardens and she pulls it directly off rather than using any type of cloth strips) with which she's worked for many years and asserts that it yields the best results. She applied powder and oil to the area before waxing, explaining that this process would ensure that the wax stuck only to the hair, and not my skin. Finally, she took great care to also address my ingrown hairs with tweezers. The entire experience took about 45 minutes, which was a lot longer than I'd ever been seen by an esthetician for a bikini was previously, and the excellent result reflects the additional time (well) spent. I do not indulge in bikini waxes often, but my one-week summer vacation spent living in a bathing suit necessitated it. After meeting MandaLynn, though, I'm inclined to splurge more often. Finally, finally, the receptionist, Valentina, was so very pleasant, and made me feel comfortable and normal when I very probably offered her Too Much Information upon scheduling the appointment in the first place. I highly recommend these two skilled professionals. read more

This is not a review about the manicures, or the waxing/facial services. Those get 5 stars. This is a review about the front desk staff, and the owner, Maria. After learning that my usual hair dresser left the salon, and without a way to contact her, I found myself without a stylist. I've gone to Salone Esthetica for eyebrow waxing, and manicures for years, and I liked the estheticians and manicurists, so I decided to give their hair stylists a try. I scheduled my appointment (POSSIBLE foil - was undecided when I made the appointment, and told them so-- and a cut) for a Saturday morning. There was no one in there, and maybe only 2 other people came in during the time that I had my hair cut. So, it shouldn't have been a problem to not do the foil, since 1) they hadn't mixed any colors, 2) they weren't taking time away from other patrons. But, no. The front desk woman gave me some attitude about not going through with the foil, despite her knowing it was tentative. And then Maria kept pressing the issue afterward. My cut went well, but Maria kept trying to tell me things about my hair that weren't true. I wanted my hair flat ironed, so that it would be completely straight, not flipped ends and blown dry, and she wouldn't do that. I know she has experience with hair, but you know what? I've lived with my hair for 22 years, and I think I know more about my own hair than someone who's never touched it before. I asked to have her flat iron my curly hair, and she insisted that a blow dry would keep it sufficiently straight. I told her how that's actually not true, and that if I get my hair blown dry, in a few hours it starts to curl. She told me that it's "not true" and "not possible", and only begrudgingly flattened the ends of my hair. I leave the salon, and guess what happens? My hair curls a few hours later, and I have to go over it with a flatiron myself. Maria joked with me about returning in January to get the foil, but after what I went through, and learning about how they treat their other clients, I'm not going to go back there read more

Wonderful place, I've always enjoyed my time here. I've had my hair cut by Maria, Cecelia and Jenny - loved all three cuts. It's not that I'm fickle, I just like to make appointments on shorter notice (I'm not really a "planner"). They're always able to accommodate me. Jenny was my last cut and she also did highlights. It was my first time having them done, and though they took a long time (apparently highlights do!) they were fabulous. I also had a mani/pedi 2 weeks ago that was great. My fingers lasted well over a week, and my toes are still perfect. A little more pricey than I'm used to, but it's a beautiful salon in a beautiful up scale town. For the setting, it's appropriate. I went in here one time for a walk in eyebrow. The girl at the front desk asked if the stylist standing across the room could fit me in right then and she said no her ride was waiting. Thats fine it was the end of her shift and I can understand she wanted to get home. They then tell me to come back in an hour and another one of the girls can do them for me. She took my name and number and scheduled me in. I walked around a little bit into the other shops and returned 45 mins later to find the doors locked and everybody had left! I will NEVER go here again for ANY service.....what poor customer service! read more

I bought a groupon for a facial along with an eye treatment. The aesthetician was pleasant and so was the front desk lady. The facial was nothing memorable. She worked more on my neck and shoulder massage than my face. It seemed like she was trying to use up the hour somehow. I read in another review that they did hot towels on her feet, but I didn't get that. Someone also said that they were given a coupon booklet as a first time client, again nothing of that sort for me. No one offered to take my coat either. All in all, there are many spas for facials, I have to be really convinced that this is the best for me to come back, which I am not at this point. read more

It all started with a gift card more than 25 years and I am still going to Maria at Salone Estetica. She took the time then and still does to make sure you are happy with the results. I love her opinion on the color and cut and I have always been more than thrilled with the results. Just for the record I've never gotten my hair done here, I've only been to the spa for facials. Melissa is a great esthetician who makes you feel pampered. The facial rooms are very relaxing and everything smells yummy! I'm a huge Aveda fan which is why I initially tried this salon when I wanted a facial. Salone Estetica will put you on a mailing list which sends out an email every Tuesday with a list of reduced services (they are trying to book all of their open appointments), as well as any specials (my favorite is the mini facial: 30 minutes for $30). I only give it 4 stars instead of 5 because it's in Winchester and sometimes I get a snobby vibe from the other clients. Having said that, I will still continue to go there specifically to see Melissa. read more

I had a very relaxing and effective facial here with Missy. I love the little comforting touches the spa ads, such as the aromatherapy oil, warm towels on your feet (but don't let them stay on too long or they get cold), hot towels on the neck and face, neck massage, and two different masques. The esthetician also used a jade roller on my face at the end, which I've never experienced before. It was cold, but it's supposed to be healing on the skin. You learn something new everyday! The extractions are always a bit painful, but that's what I expect since I can't do them myself at home. I might recommend adding warm booties to the feet after the hot towels cool off and using very soft towels near the end when the skin is extremely sensitive and everything stings. I felt very pampered and would definitely return. The salon is also in the center of the little town, which is very cute. read more

The whole place was very clean and everyone was extremely friendly. I used a GroupOn to get a facial and it was very relaxing and completely worth it. I also got a manicure and I was really happy with the way it turned out. However, it did chip after just a couple days but that could be my own fault and not the salons. It is pretty impossible to find a top coat that withstands cooking and dishes! Overall, I would definitely recommend this salon. read more

I really love Lindsey! She's so thorough and nice to chat with. Its been hard to find a stylist that is consistent, and Lindsey's work is consistent every time. Needless to say, I keep coming back to see her. I really like her and my hair color, cut, and blow drys always look great. I also think their prices for hair are very reasonable for the quality you receive. I haven't tried the spa side of the salon but I do like how they offer so many other services and that they use Aveda products. The salon itself is always busy, but not chaotic. The only downside to this place, is that parking can be kind of tough to find unless its after 6PM. read more

I've been going to this salon for 6 years, to have my hair done. Guity is wonderful. And the other ladies have done a great job when scheduling has caused need. I'm not into fussing a lot about my hair, and I've some trouble with asthma reacting to certain products, and everyone always been responsive to my needs. I recommend them highly. I love this salon!! I'm really really gray, so color is a challenge for me, but Maureen is fabulous. My hair looks natural and my cuts are terrific (not an easy job)...I get compliments on my hair all the time. All the staff seem to be real pros. Agatha gives a beautiful manicure and Missy's facials have made my skin look great, even through the winter. Guity Roshon, stylist/miracle worker, has been cutting my hair for most of the past year and I can't praise her enough. I get compliments all the time, even as my short cut grows out! Everyone there is pleasant and professional, but also friendly without being overly familiar. LeeAnne is my favorite prep and shampoo-ist (shampooist?) I love getting the Aveda treatment without the attitude that comes with other Aveda salons. Oh, and the prices are competitive! If you're ready for a change, this is the place to go. And another thing... I notice how the other clients respond (and how the look when they leave) and there are a number of miracle workers there. This was I believe my fourth facial at Estetica and it was by far the best yet! I got their Botanical Resurfacing Facial this time which was suggested by my designated esthetician during my last session where I got their Brightening Facial. She used a lot of different techniques and products which enhanced my overall experience this visit and we are getting to know each other better now and chatted a bit more this time about AVEDA and other relevant topics. I am excited to return for my next facial visit where she suggested I try their Ultrasonic Facial which I have never tried and am very excited about! I do want to thank the salone for my visit also because they additionally fit me in on a shorter notice than usual. It was also good to know they read my last review and despite maybe feeling it wasn't fabulous were comfortable enough to ask me about it. Lindsey is totally amazing! I love her! ( everyone else there is also great-- very friendly and accommodating, but I have only seen Lindsey for my haircuts). She always listens to exactly what you want--not at like some places where you explain what you are looking to have done and they do something completely different) . I have always had a great experience there. Lindsey makes sure that you are happy with her work during and after treatment. While waiting, they offer you a beverage, and if you have your hair done, they offer you a neck massage. My family members also go here. I went to Salone Estetica for a mani/pedi and facial with a coupon from travelzoo and to tell you the truth I was quite disappointed by the mani/pedi. It didn't last more than a week. My nails had sharp edges on them that caused a couple to break. Not only that, but I went in with long nails and came out with barely any nail length. I thought manicures are easier and should look better on longer nails ... The esthetician (black hair, from Brazil I believe) was not very social and seemed upset/mad while working. People go to a spa to have a nice time not to deal with other people's pent up anger. The facial however, was totally worth it. The girl was very nice, talkative, gave advice, and delicate with her work making sure that I was comfortable and enjoying the experience. The stars on this review are mainly because of the experience with her. A friend of mine who also went with the same coupon had a very similar experience and we will certainly not be going back. read more

I've been going to the same hairdresser for 7 years and it was time for me to make a change since I just moved and driving to Hyde Park (Salon Capri) just didn't make sense. So I stumbled upon this place when I was making my Starbucks run in the morn. I really like the look of the place and the girls working inside seemed pretty cool. Once I booked my appt for a partial foil and a cut..they confirmed my appt via e-mail..which i thought was very cool. I was really nervous to go since my roots where horrendous and i was used to getting my hair done by the person who could read my mind. Well I saw Colleen and she did just that. I explained as well as I could what i wanted, she was super patient, took her time and made sure i was okay with what she was going to do. I felt really relaxed and i have to say my hair color came out perfect..maybe even a little better than before. I had the pleasure of seeing a sylist named Colleen. Wow is all I really say! She is a master at her craft. She took my dry, frizzy, unhealth hairy and transformed it with an amazing color! And she asked for my imput on the cut, she actually did what I asked. she kept making sure I understood what she was doing & why, and what the end result would be. Maria made me feel incredibly uncomfortable because she insulted my hair color and by the end, my hair looked half done. I started tearing up in the chair. Needless to say, I will not be returning. What's better than walking out of the salon feeling great about your new look? The best feeling is walking out of Salone Estetica knowing you'll have that great feeling every day. The Short Cut: If you want your hair to look great (I mean compliments from strangers at the office store great!), with no fuss, every day, call to have a consultation with Maria. At a cost of maybe ten minutes, you'll either know what you've been missing, or feel this salon isn't a match for you (hey, you generally don't know your comfort and compatibility until you're there, so why risk losing your hair on somewhere you might not like?). I could not have conveyed what I was going for without bringing a photo I found online and saying what I liked about that haircut. Ask where to park when you call if you're unfamiliar with Winchester Square. Now send or add to your phone contacts the number for Salone Estetica and get your consultation. The Big To-Do: Not just what but why & You can do it everyday. I've tried lots of places, in different cities and some in different parts of the country. Sometimes I've been very happy. For that day. Sometimes the cut was great but not so much for me, so I'd see that in a few hours. And disappointment just meant every day I didn't have an appointment. Thanks to Maria at Salone Estetica, I get a cut that has me looking great day after day. During the consultation, not only did she say *what* she would recommend, but *why* (i.e., this bleached color is too light for the skin tone, so it disappears here and creates "x" effect here). In dialogue I actually began to understand things that were akin to trade secrets before. With us being on the same page, I knew I was in good scissors. (Now I usually have a general direction--short or bold--but I can faithfully leave things at that without concern.) This is when I found out just how good at her craft Maria is (think Edward Scissorhands making those perfect hedge sculptures at 4x speed on the DVR, and total confidence = totally relaxed). I was shown how to style it, to the point where I actually got it. So for the first time in my life, I had that salon look the next day (and every day). How cool is that? First Maria used her skills at one color application to achieve what would normally be done with color then highlight (when someone is that accomplished as can save you money!... and has the integrity: for she was explaining to an adjacent client seeking gray concealment how the method requested would lead to an expensive cycle, yet an alternative method would achieve better results). Then how the color effect lasted such that two months later people I did not know were still complimenting it. Highlights: Last minute deals by e-mail if you elect to sign up can offer significant appointment discounts at the salon and spa. Straight-talk, down to earth, good people, no worries that I've had to cancel two days before an appointment, reschedule, and then cancel that a week before it (my health insurance doesn't currently cover "random freak occurrence magnet" extraction). Split Ends: As expected, Saturdays are busier than weekdays and it can seem a little noisy (or at least not soothing). It also took me a few visits before I asked about parking and they were happy to tell me where to find spots and lots with spots--even though it actually took the dear woman walking outside with me because I don't have enough spatial perception to thwack myself against the forehead on the first try (yet she was cool and friendly about it, not impatient). It can be easy to overlook the spa services (waxing, massage), so do inquire if you're interested. The Right Product: Okay, so I've said some of what I've found at Salone Estetica that I haven't found anywhere else, even places that cost me twice as much for the same service. I'd recommend on the design skills alone, the cutting skills alone, on the genuine and wonderful people you'll find here. So who will like it there? Well if you're looking for a buzzcut you can probably try for a decent barber (although these days a good barber might cost more), and if you're determined to keep your hair exactly as it is, perhaps it doesn't matter so much. Otherwise, you've nothing to lose and even something to learn by adding a consultation with Maria at Salone Estetica to your New Month's Must-Do Resolution list. read more
