The staff didn't greet us warmly when we walked in and the stylist never said "hello" to us, nor was her tone friendly, as it should be when speaking with children. 2. My daughter's African- American but fluent in Spanish, she relayed to me that the stylist kept saying her hair was so short in Spanish. As though there's something negative about short hair. The entire service was $81 for a style that required no chemicals, I typically pay max $60 for this same style. On top of that, the style hasn't lasted because my daughter has natural hair that wasn't straightened out first. It seemed she wasn't trained or just didn't bother to work w/textured hair properly. What bothers me most is African-American woman have trusted Dominicans w/our beautiful hair even though many of their products, and styling methods, are not for our hair type and they don't care enough to learn our hair and work with it properly. And in some cases, they talk negatively about our hair texture, being to hard to comb or short, in Spanish, but take your money. As soon as my cousin and I walked in, we were greeted politely by the employees at the front. However, once we made our way into the store, the experience completely changed. A blonde, white woman who appeared to be a manager (this was around 4:30-5:00 p.m.) repeatedly stared at us as we walked through different aisles. At one point, I stopped to smell a body mist. I looked up and noticed two employees watching my cousin and me. When I made eye contact, they continued to watch us. I then noticed another employee on the other side of the aisle, stocking merchandise while also keeping an eye on us. Altogether, there were three employees two Black women and one white woman who seemed to be monitoring us throughout our visit. To make matters worse, we were asked if we needed help every few minutes. While I understand that customer service is part of the job, the constant attention, combined with being watched throughout the store, made it feel like we were being profiled rather than assisted. I am not a thief. I am a paying customer who came in to shop like everyone else. Being made to feel suspicious simply for browsing was disrespectful and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, this experience confirmed why I had not returned to this location in two years. I will not be shopping at this Ulta again, and based on this experience, I have no interest in visiting any Ulta location in the future. That's why y'all work in retail and have nothing better to do with your time
