This is a great place for anyone who wants a small business with higher quality trained staff than the bigger salons. I followed my hairstylist from a big salon and I have always spent a lot of money on items in the salon and on my services for my hair and nails. Not once has that salon reached out to me about returning! I don't think I can recommend them ever again but this new salon definitely cares about its clients. They greet you immediately when you come in and check you in. I have never waited longer than 10 minutes for my stylist to come get me and get started. They have handicap parking, and accessibility. Gender neutral restrooms and you can get a drink if you like-water, wine. I definitely recommend trying this salon and see how great they are. Especially Kimm. read more

I went to Shear Genius for the first time yesterday and let me just say, this will not be the last time I go here. I saw Bethany, and about 30 mins from my appointment time I get a call from the salon asking if I could come 15 mins later than my scheduled time, and apologizing for running a little behind. This communication was top notch, they said they didn't want me to have to wait around in the salon, which i appreciated greatly. Overall, I had a wonderful experience with Bethany, we talked the whole time, and she gave me exactly what I wanted, which was nerve-wracking because I haven't trusted a hair stylist with my hair in several years. She was super understanding of my concerns and tackled each request to a T. I will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you, Bethany, and whoever my shampoo girl was, you rock! read more

My daughter and I got our hair cut and styled here and we couldn't be happier. Being able to make the appointment online was super helpful. Suzanne was our stylist and she was great. 5 stars for Rina less for the others. Rina did an amazing job on what I thought was hopeless hair. She was professional the entire time and focused on the outcome that I wanted. I know it is a Salon and People will talk; however, the Staff was very gossipy about individuals and I can only hope that it was not about paying clients. I understand the concept that if it was said out loud it's not a secret, but I can't help but wonder how someone would feel if their business was put out like that. I've been coming to this place for almost five years. In the years prior, I had issues with numerous barbers in the area and couldn't find one that provided a consistent experience and a great cut. Many of them provided poor customer service and inconsistent haircuts. I never felt like I was a priority, just another customer. If this sounds like you, this is the place for you. Welcome home! One day, I happened to get an appointment here and have been a regular ever since. They provide great customer service and scheduling appointments is very easy. They even send you reminders leading up to your appointment. Greatly appreciated! I went today for the first time and Erin cut my hair. She was super friendly, easy to talk to, and did a great job! I have curly hair and I asked her to cut and then style it straight and it looks amazing! And it's really soft! I was offered a drink while having my hair cut, I liked the set up of the salon, and the price was much cheaper than I expected. It was totally worth the 25 minute drive from my house. I love everything about this hair salon! The place itself is spacious and clean. Really friendly receptionist. And the haircut was beyond my expectation! I got mine cut and styled by Erin. My hair was brittle and lackluster, but she completely transformed it to one that looks and feels healthy, soft, and stylish! Friday, Nov 18 2016, I needed a haircut, and based on reviews posted on the Internet I went to "Shear genius salon" at 9810F Bel Air Rd, Perry Hall 21128. Tiffany was my hair cutter. Trim on the sides (#3) and scissors on top, simple as that; therefore, it didn't take more than 15 minutes. She didn't offer a mirror to look on the sides and back (now I know why), and I thought it was as fine as any other haircut that I've had in other places. I paid for the haircut, a cash tip for her and I went home. Surprise! Instead of trimming the sides Tiffany had chopped my hair, I had spots cut off lower than others and holes where I could see my scalp. Knowing that it was a really bad haircut, she didn't say a word neither tried to fix it, and she let me go just like that. By far, this was the worst haircut I've ever had. To fix this, I had to cut it again and way, way shorter. So, I went to a Barber Shop where they made it even, and with the hair style that I wanted to have, something that Tiffany with her 15 years of experience (as she claimed to have) couldn't do. I went back to Shear genius salon to complaint and show them pictures of that awful haircut. The receptionist asked me to wait while she was going to get a manager, she came back (no manager) and handed me the money that I had paid, problem solved (for them)! I wonder how often this genius "haircuts" happen at Shear genius salon, they give you money back, never acknowledged their poor service, not even an apology, and obviously a customer is not worth manager's time to get involved in customer service issues. Why would a paying customer be more important than anything else? In conclusion, a bad haircut, poor customer service and a careless manager, means to me that they don't even care, it tells me that if I didn't like the service that's my problem not theirs, they're not accountable. Sometime they may realize that their hair business depends on customer's satisfaction not just collecting money. read more

I've been coming here for a long time now (since 2002 or so) to get my hair cut by Erin. I lived nearby in Perry Hall for about 5 years and then moved to Northern VA in 2009. However, I still make the drive to Shear Genius for a great cut and color at a fantastic price. People are always complimenting my cut and asking where I go; when I tell the Baltimore they look at me like I'm crazy, but when you find someone you trust, it's well worth the drive. Good product selection and they also have wine!! read more
