My family has been coming here for years, last night was my first time. Our waiter was great however when I asked to switch out a side to something else I preferred I was told I could not because they were too busy. I went to speak to the manager because of all the restaurants I have been to, I have never heard that as a reason. When I asked the manager about simply switching a side she told me I could not and that it would be a "slap in the face" to the manager if I did so. She also spoke down to me saying this is a "different type of restaurant" as if I had not been to nice restaurants before (I've been to places much nicer than this one). She eventually said "fine I'll do it and the chef won't be happy" and walked off with a smirk. When leaving I said I would not be back and she laughed, smiled, and waved. The most classless act I had ever seen from management in my life. Safe to say I will never be back and this restaurant should find more class to manage this "different type of restaurant". read more

My father made a reservation (for 8) weeks in advance, get to the establishment and get argued with about said reservation. There was no 'let's make this right' it was very much you are wrong, a literal quote from the manager 'we aren't liars here'.. absolutely baffled by the 'customer service'. First off, I rarely, if ever, I have given a 5 star rating. This place, however, deserves it. From the atmosphere, ambiance, cleanliness, the knowledge and presentation of the staff (we had Mr Michael), and of course the food. It all combined to make the expierence for my wife and I a memorable one. I am not necessarily a salmon kind of guy, but it did come recommended, so I decided to give it a try. Oh my, it was so very delicious. We also had the cheesy bread and beet salad. The beet salad, yall, was clearly the best salad I have eaten. I would say that I wouldn't want to give a good rating because the more good ratings, the less likely for a table. Well, it's too late. Better get there early, like we did. By 5 o'clock, it was already very busy. Thank you to Mr Michael, our waitor. He was very knowledgeable, pleasant, and so very accommodating. Kudos to the owner and manager. There were four of us eating and the food was outstanding. As an appetizer we shared the cracked toast which was out of this world . My wife had the filet and she said it was the best on the island . I had fried shrimp, scallops and flounder which was also outstanding . Service was excellent . Pricing is very high especially for a beach town. This is a restaurant that we will visit on a special occasion not on a regular basis . The four of us had a total of two appetizers , four entrees , 5 cocktails and one dessert and the bill with tip was $322. read more

I'm not sure if it was because we didn't have reservations or they were just slammed at that very moment but an otherwise wonderful dinner and great restaurant on normal occasions seem to be less so great. The hostess wasn't very welcoming as we walked in looking for a spot in the bar for two. We were ushered back to the front saying that they always seat people at the bar which was fine. She could have been nicer about it. We got to our high top for two in the bar area ordered amazing drinks and wonderful food however the service just wasn't there. There were a lot of excuses for why things didn't pan out the way they should have, but our entrees were fabulous. The restaurant as a whole is wonderful for off-season locals who don't otherwise get to go during tourist season. I was just hoping for better more friendly service. Oak Island needed a fine dining restaurant and Salt 64 certainly delivered! They are also one of the few restaurants that accepts reservations. Definitely a smart idea because they are busy even on an early Friday evening in November. Now for the food! Starting with a nice beverage list with some creative cocktail choices and a not overwhelming list of wines. Our Chardonnay and Riesling selections were a generous pour and quite lovely. We started with the wedge salads which were excellent. Generous portions with very fresh tomatoes and crispy bacon accompanied the wedge with some outstanding bleu cheese dressing. My oysters were fresh and perfectly prepared. They came with a crispy fresh coleslaw, hush puppies and my side choice of creamy grits. We wanted to save room for dessert and each brought home half of our meals. My man had a delicious burger on brioche with the most amazing Yukon gold mashed potatoes he has ever tasted. Our dessert choice was the 7 layer chocolate cake which we shared and still brought home over half. It was incredible. Moist and just the right amount of decadent chocolate ganache. Our delightful and knowledgeable server was Bria and she is a consummate professional. All of the staff were so friendly. We can't wait to go back and try some of their other main courses. Osso Buco looked so good as did the salmon encroute special. Definitely make reservations and be aware portions are large and shareable. 10/10, highly recommend! read more

My Mom and I came for dinner to celebrate my birthday. We started with the "crack toast". It is drool worthy!!' I ordered the horseradish crusted salmon and my Mom ordered the crab cakes both were AMAZING!! The portions are huge- so we had plenty of leftovers. Christa was our server and she was FABTABULOUS!! Make sure to ask for her if she's working. The Owner (I forgot her name) was so nice and kept checking on us. I highly recommend having dinner here. You will NOT be disappointed!! read more

I have been coming to Long Beach/Oak Island for over 40 years and must say this is the most expensive and most disappointing meal I have ever had on island. We had a 45 minute wait on a Thursday evening in the off season. We sat on the patio until they were ready to seat us. We asked to remain seated at the patio to get away from the noise but were told that was not an option. This restaurant is in the former Jones Seafood restaurant location and there is a Jones Seafood reference on the menu. It is blasphemous; this seafood doesn't hold a candle to the Calabash style seafood previously served in this building. The hush puppies were cakey and raw in the middle, but they look good. Half a dozen fried oysters with fries was $27. Seriously overpriced for the under fried oysters that were served. If you are looking for authentic NC/SC seafood, keep driving. read more

We had a reservation for 7 people and were quickly seated at a comfortably sized table. We ordered a few drinks that arrived quickly and our server Maddie described the nightly specials. Our apps arrived quickly and appropriately timed before our entree's. We ordered shrimp salad, fried shrimp plate, salmon dish, shrimp and grits and a cowboy ribeye. Each item served perfectly cooked and delicious! For dessert we shared a peanut butter pie and pineapple cheesecake that were both perfect endings to our incredible meal. Jess and Erika both stopped by during our meal to ensure everything was perfect. Overall the meal and service was top notch, even on a busy Saturday night. Osso Bucco is absolutely 5*...tender, great sauce, etc. Ahi sashimi was a tad off this trip, perhaps the seasoning was off or the tuna sourcing was different. We made reservations for opening week and if you can't tell from the pictures - the food was delicious! It was really hard to narrow down what we wanted to try from all the menu options, but we started with the wings and lobster tails. Both were lightly fried and the house made sauces added that extra special touch. We were surprised by the portion sizes of the entrees and all three of us had leftovers. If I had to choose - I think the shrimp capellini and chicken and waffles were my favorites of the entrees we tried. The strawberry cake and chocolate cake were amazing! The service was on point too! We have been a couple of times and have found the quality of the food to be dependent on the dish. The OG grill and voodoo scallops were very good, Shrimp and Grits good, the chicken waffles OK and the baby back ribs poor. The service has been constantly good. It is a white table cloth dining. The food was superb. I don't think I have been to a restaurant in a long time that every dish that came to our table was excellent. One recommendation I would like to make is I wish there were more seafood options. I don't know how often they change their menu but maybe it was just one off thing for us. The food was tasty and well prepared . We started with the fried green tomatoes that were crispy and delicious. They were served with crab which I don't eat so we requested and received the crab on the side . My husband had the seafood pasta special and I had the Parma Grana crusted breast of chicken .
