Half of the professors are in there 20s...... the other half are so old they flat out tell you they don't have any network connections for students sense they have been out of the field so long..... This is a great school if your parents make you choose from working at there company or go to college .... This place is nothing but a rich kids playground and so help you god if you think differently about situations or have your own thoughts and opinions about stuff it's flat out wrong if it doesn't alone with the educators ...... been at this school for 3 years there a joke if you want a real art education in the Midwest go to Chicago school of arts

My friend and I decided to go with 24 x 24 selection which gives you a 3hr class time and you have a little extra additional time if you go over. You get to select your own image - if its TOO DETAILED then he'll let you know. Currently he request the image 24hrs before the class - you'll notify you through email and text. Please note - you won't be able to take piece home until after two days but he'll reach out when its ready because he needs to put the finishing touching/sealing the rug with glue. There are a variety of colors available - you even have the option of playing your own music but we declined and asked him to put on some music which we vibe too. As of right now - the max amount of people are 6 but i think special requests for highly numbers in the future - if you don't know then just reach out. I'm already trying to see how i can get my job to approve a corporate class which he informed me that there's an option for a pop-up session. At the end of the day - DO THE THINGS; TRY SOMETHING NEW. My son enjoys it very much. Staff is friendly. Interior well kept. Reasonably priced. I especially like the pay as you go policy. No $$ wasted if you miss a class. They are flexible about needing to come on a different day if your regular time slot does not work that week. Wrap that all up with individualized instruction and this place is AWESOME!!

This is a great hidden gem and all of the galleries are free. It's definitely really small like you could see everything under an hour. There's also a small gift shop.

Offering not only general education studies, but more importantly art classes in a variety of mediums, this 9-12th grade school is herald as the best of the best among local public schools. Opened over a decade ago by Denise Darcel Davis, this premiere public school offers students studies in dance, television communications, theater, visual arts and more on top of math, science, English, etc. Students are accepted only on an audition/portfolio basis, so the stakes are high, but definitely worth it. The school moved in early 2000 to its multi-million dollar facility off of Cass Ave in Midtown. For those seeking a one up in the field of art this is the Detroit school to do it in. As an alumni myself I would first recommend attending for the brilliant art teachers and the advantage students receive in their field of study. The school days are a bit longer, but students of DSA receive the advantage, DSA students consistently score higher on Michigan standardized test than any local public school.

During the past year we had an exchange student who attended the Detroit School of the Arts, so…read morethere were lots of opportunities for us to interact with the teachers, staff and other students. Some of the pluses: 1) It's a beautiful campus. The building is new. It's bright and airy. It's very clean. There's a huge stage for preformances. 2) The counseling staff really seem to care about the students. Our student made a lot of adjustments on her class schedule and they were always willing to work with her. 3) The art-related classes are very good and they have a wide variety of options. On the downside: 1) Despite being given such a good opportunity, some of the students just aren't that serious about their art or their academic classes. There was a lot of skipping school to hang out at Wayne State or Starbucks. 2) The building itself is very tall with lots of stairs. If I was a student there I would not be happy about going up and down five or six flights 8-10 times a day. The elevator is only for students with medical disabilities that prevent them from taking the stairs. 3) I got a real shock when the first report card arrived and I saw that our student had a number of skipped classes and more than a dozen tardies. Frankly, I think the school should call you the first time your student misses class or is unually late with no reasonable excuse. I would have liked significantly more communication rather than having to hear about things way after the fact.
