What a find! We felt like having a steak for lunch and we decided to give this place a try. The place was clean and open and we were seated right away without reservations. As we were walking in we noticed the wood fired oven for pizza and the oyster bar for the raw food. It looked impressive so we decided to order pizza for appetizers. The server was very friendly and attentive with our order and everything came out hot and presentable. The pizza was very good but the steak was amazing. They have certain met all the marks. I came here last week with three friends. They sat us promptly at the time of our reservation. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful. The Turning Stones cocktail has the color changing gin, which was unique and fun. Make sure you fully mix it before you sip it though, or you'll be left with all the gin straight up at the end! We shared the hummus dip to start and I had the fire roasted salmon, all of which was great. The interior decor is very beautifully done. Service and location were great! The food was not so great. I ordered the lobster ravioli. Bad choice. It was too much shallots & basil and I didn't like the taste of it. The fresh lobster on it was not like the fresh Maine claw meat that is so tender and delicious. My friend had the classic burger, which was huge and she could only eat half. She said the burger was good... just too much. If I went back, I'd get the lobster roll to see how it compared to the ones in Maine, which are hard to beat!! Maine has the best lobster hands down. Fun place embedded along Assembly Row shopping in Somerville with outdoor and indoor seating. We decided to do lunch outside on the weekend where there was live music to accompany our delicious food. We started with the cold seafood sampler that included chilled briny oysters, two types of raw clams and nicely poached jumbo shrimp cocktail which were served with cocktail sauce, horseradish and mignonette sauce. The French toast was eggy with hints of warm spices and topped with whipped cream and excellent maple syrup. The margherita flatbread had quality mozzarella and fresh basil on a crunchy base that was pretty standard but good. The BLT salad was a version of an wedge salad but enhanced with thick cut bacon, fresh avocado and sliced eggs combined with bleu cheese dressing. Finally, the tuna tataki was fresh and properly seared but was a bit bland flavor-wise. Service was low-key and very friendly. Overall, a great experience and hope to come back again! read more

I live within walking distance of Assembly Row and am a frequent flyer at all the restaurants. I decided to come back here because the first time I stopped in, I had oysters and drinks at the bar for happy hour 4-6pm and it was a positive experience. I came in the other day happy to have made it in time for happy hour oysters and was told by the female bartender at 5:07pm that happy hour was over, and she walked away. Would love to know when it changed because my sister was in a couple of weeks ago and reminded me it was until 6pm. It was a bummer! I ordered a house margarita, and it was standard. Disappointed overall. Seated at a high top right next to the door. Found the high top chairs difficult to get into and then pretty wobbly when you did, but maybe I got a bad chair? Music was pretty loud and we had to shout at each other most of the meal. Also, Spanish hip hop and rap seemed an odd choice for the space, and not what I was expecting. Ordered french onion soup and a few oysters to start, waiter did not know what notes the oysters had. Could not eat the soup, some unlisted spice was all over the bread at the bottom. Ordered the cheese board which was good and had interesting pairings, but nothing was explained to us. Entrees came and again an unlisted spice was on the scallops. Mushroom ravioli was okay but nothing to write home about, almost bland. Was charged for wine I did not order, wait staff was kind enough to remove it. Quite a long experience. I don't know if they were short staffed but we rarely saw our waiter, besides the group of all the wait staff near the pizza oven all night. I don't know if they were continually waiting on food. We tried Salt + Stone once before and received terrible service, but we decided to try it again in case they were just having an off day. Our mistake. We walked into the restaurant and the FOH manager immediately started berating me for making a reservation via OpenTable, which is the only way to make a reservation on their website. He said that I made a reservation for a high top, and I was "lucky" that someone had canceled a normal table reservation or they wouldn't have been able to seat us. I asked if we weren't allowed to sit at a high stop with a stroller, as we had an infant with us, and he said that we were allowed. When I questioned then why we wouldn't have been seated at the high top then, he simply said "because". I can only assume that meant "we don't want a baby sitting up here". He continued scolding me all the way through the restaurant to a table in the very back. Once we sat down, our terrible service continued. Our waitress was friendly but incredibly slow. They were out of almost every cocktail and beer on the menu. No plates were never cleared, so we ate dinner with the appetizer plates taking up most the of the table. When we were finished with dinner, we were brought the check without being asked if we were interested in dessert. The food was REALLY good, but unfortunately for the chef, the incredibly rude manager and slow service ruined the experience for us once again. Needless to say, Salt + Stone didn't deserve a second chance from us, and this time, we won't be returning. read more

First time dining at Salt and Stone. We came here around brunch time and happy to see that we can order from the breakfast or regular menu. The setting of the restaurant is very modern and spacious, we decided to sit by the pizza oven and salad bar. The dishes came altogether pretty quickly and the staff are very attentive. The devil eggs have a nice twist with chilly peppers and it blended really nicely with the bacon. The crab cream dip is a little too rich with the cream cheese so it was a bit hard to taste the flavor of the crab. The Crusted Ahi Tuna was excellent, it pairs really well with the wasabi aioli sauce and pickled vegetables on the side. The filet steak was cooked perfectly and I actually used the crab cream dip as a topping for the steak and it worked well together. The shrimp cocktails are huge and really fresh. It is overall an excellent dining experience. Will definitely come back again. It also helps that the location is so good as it is full of shopping and entertainment, there are tons of options for parking. read more

The salmon was tasty and the smashed potatoes were something you don't see often on a menu so I liked that a lot too. My partner got the burger and it was HUGE and flavorful. I got the green goddess or something salad and that was refreshing also. Service was decent on a busy day and the prices are a bit high, it's very comparable to Earl's I'd say.
