I would give zero stars if I could. My experience at Payson Family Pet Hospital was a nightmare…read morethat put my dog's life at risk. After a routine spay, my dog developed an infection at the incision site. When we returned to give them a chance to fix it, things went from bad to worse. A vet tech took her into a back room--away from our sight--and shaved her entire underbelly to the skin to deal with the oozing from the infection. They shaved her so aggressively that it caused a severe skin rash/burn, which the clinic then refused to take any responsibility for. The most terrifying part? After seeing no improvement, we took her to an emergency vet for a second opinion. We were told the medications Payson Family Pet Hospital sent us home with were actually formulated for a cat and weren't even close to the correct dosage for a dog. This clinic is negligent, their staff is reckless, and their lack of accountability is appalling. We will never return. If you love your pets, do not bring them here.

They took the time to really listen, learn about our dog and consider the best care for him. They really care to treat their patient as a whole vs symptoms only. In a world where everything is so fast paced and regularly we feel rushed out the door it couldn't have been more opposite here, the Doctor really took his time, and you can tell how much he cares. Thank you for your great care, happy to have found such a great vet.

Your pet deserves better…read more So, I met Monty when he prescribed Meloxicam for my old dog with arthritis. Worked great, and I was glad to have (I thought) a good vet locally. I went back to get help with a recurring infection the same dog was suffering from, and Monty's proposed solution was to CUT OF HIS TAIL, to help keep him clean. No way I'm doing that to my 14 year old dog. We tried a few other options I'd asked about, and Monty seemed open to working with me, and was friendly enough. After about the 2nd treatment attempt, Monty stopped answering my phone calls, and eventually had his daughter (works in the office with his wife) tell me he wasn't comfortable treating the dog, and recommended I find consult another vet, which I gladly did. Other vet diagnosed and solved the problem immediately, and my dog is fine, and got to keep his tail. Regardless, it was good to have a local vet, and I didn't want to give up on Monty, so I went back for a refil of the Meloxicam several months later. I asked Monty's wife if we could refill the prescription at another pharmacy, as opposed to Chewy who was very expensive by comparison. Monty came busting out of a room down the hall yelling "what are you trying to nickle and dime me for?!" I'm still not sure what difference it makes to him where I get a prescription filled, but I didn't get a chance to ask, as he kept yelling "I know who you are, you're a scammer!" "The other vet wouldn't take you back?" I explained what the other vet did to solve the problem, and that the dog was doing great, and he yelled back "then why are you here?" Explained that I didn't realize there was any bad blood between us, that I appreciated having a local vet for things like this, and I didn't know why he was so mad, to which he replied "well I'm not filling it, get out of here!" I can't imagine what it must be like to be his wife or daughter and have to live with Monty. At least I had the option of not doing business with this unbalanced hack. Do your pets a favor, and drive a little out of the way to find a competent and mentally stable vet.

Waiting to talk to him and still didn't get to talk to him This is what the reviews on google has to say " +6 Reviews for Family Pet Hospital in Mapleton are mixed, with some clients praising compassionate care and a positive long-term experience, while others report issues with billing transparency, misdiagnoses, and poor communication. Complaints detail concerns about hidden fees and excessive costs, with some attributing these to money-grabbing tactics rather than necessary care. Negative experiences also include inconsistent customer service, long waits, and questionable treatment decisions, such as forcing expensive food or performing unnecessary exams"

I'm on the fence about this place because of a few different reasons…read more My pet got a foxtail stuck in her ear for the second time within a week period. The first time it happened we did an emergency visit to Blue Pearl up North where we had the most awful experience. This appointment with A Caring Vet was scheduled for a next day appointment to where it wasn't considered emergent, it was just like any other appointment. Before I go on let me add that the facilities were well decorated so they didn't feel like some sort of insane asylum or prison like we had felt at Blue Pearl. Although, they did feel very unsanitary. Like the floors hadn't been mopped in quite some time and could use a good deep clean. And the staff was super nice! The appointment came out to $267 after sedation and the removal of the foxtail. Since it wasn't an emergency visit I figured it wouldn't be outrageously expensive compared to our first visit to Blue Pearl, but there was only about a $50 difference. They also said "We get pets in here all the time with the same problem." And I'm wondering to myself, why in the heck the appointment was this appointment so expensive if you they get these kinds of visits so frequently? Lastly, I wasn't a big fan of how they did the sedation on my pet. They kept here there in a kennel until it was her turn for her surgery it was 11am and they said she should be done anywhere in between 2pm-6pm. I asked if it were possible for me to take her and then if they gave me a 10 minutes heads up I could get her back to the facility for her surgery. They said "With the way surgeries are set up she could possibly not be seen today if the surgical team needs to wait for her to get here." I was not a huge fan of being parted with my pet for hours while she was sitting in a kennel when she could have been comfortable at home. If they could implement some other kind of system that would definitely change my 3/5 stars. Pet owners are already paying the facility enough the least they could do is schedule surgeries rather than keep them away from home all day.

Dr Hanson is the most knowledgeable, loving, patient and best veterinarian in Utah County…read more He was the third vet that I found, and kept since I found Dr. Hanson. I have referred him to many of my friends. However, to be perfectly honest, his prices are a bit high. I'm sure he has raised his prices because the cost of inflation although at times I could not bring either my cat or my dog to visit him because of the price of his office visit. I often thought it would be beneficial, if he allowed his old patients to be grandfathered in and allow them to pay what his office visit was five years ago. Nevertheless, he is the absolute best vet and all of Utah county. Sincerely Angi
