He not only notarized the signatures, he also took the time to ensure the papers (a car title and a financial power of attorney) were filled out completely and properly. Note that his company can perform electronic notary services for a slightly lower fee (because no travel is required). But you have to go through an online validation of identity process similar to what the IRS and credit bureaus require. Some people may prefer that, but some may find it easier to just have him make a personal visit and verify identity by looking at your Driver's License or State Identification.
