Casual dining on a Sunday afternoon in the hinterland of Lake Hughes. There was country music in the back, and a very small craft festival on the property too. The dinner menu starts at 4:00. We ordered from the lunch menu, The bisque,tomato soup, and grilled cheese sandwich were pretty good., as was the chicken cutlet on a bun. The French fries were excellent. The young waitress was very busy, but we had our meal in no time. We waited for her to pick up the payment, but another woman took the cash payment. Hope she was the owner, as she stated. I loved the atmosphere. Felt like you were with family. I was immediately greeted by Amber. She had a wonderful and bubbly personality. She brought me a menu and took my drink order. I heard they serve Bravery Brewing beer so I ordered the Rocktoberfest. Still one of my favs! I told Amber that I would be ordering a few items and will be needing to-go boxes to bring home to my Mom (sharing food is my love language). Here's what I ordered: -Pepper Jack Mac & Cheese bites with their homemade ranch -Ahi Tuna sliders -Cubano with homemade chips accompanied by their homemade pepper jack queso dip -Chocolate Croissant Bread Pudding -Pepperoni pizza - to go The Mac & Cheese bites were crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside. The inside had a sharpness to it, I'm assuming from a cheese they used. They were even better dipped in their homemade ranch. Do not leave without trying it!!! Ahi Tuna sliders. You guys.. don't walk, RUN to try these! I think my eyes rolled back in my head when I took my first bite. The tuna was tender, the slaw was crunchy, creamy and citrusy with a slight sweetness. The bun was soft and slightly sweet as well, and the fact that it was toasted, added a nice texture. I'd eat these breakfast, lunch and dinner. And probably for dessert, don't judge me. The Cubano was fantastic! I'm hoping I heard Neil correctly but they marinate the pork in a homemade mojo sauce. That was incredible! The bread was nicely toasted, the ham was smoky, the fontina cheese added a nutty, buttery flavor along with the balance from the crunchy pickles and acidity from the mustard. And the homemade chips with the pepper Jack queso were amazing! The perfect crunch and crispness, salted well and dipped in the creamy queso that had a hint of spice. Oh lawd! Absolute happiness Neil Behrman, the chef, was kind enough to come out and introduce himself. I was lucky enough to have a conversation with him where we shared about our love of cooking, I got to hear about how became a chef, about his Italian grandmother, where he's worked, and how food feeds our soul. I did try one bite from the chocolate croissant bread pudding and oh man, the ooey gooey buttery chocolatey goodness is amazing! FYI.. Both my parents loved and raved about the food! Great tavern! The lemon bass and the chicken veggie bowl were very tasty and good portion too. My friends were also very pleased with their food. They loved the coconut shrimp and the tomato soup with grilled cheese. The guests next to us recommended the chicken wings. We'll try them next time ;) The service and ambiance were great as well. Stopped by on an impulse and was very pleasantly surprised! The burger was great (though not a half pound) and the side salad was surprising robust (lots of other veggies, not just lettuce). We came to see the poppies in early May at the intersection of Lake Elizabeth Road and Munz Canyon. After we discovered the Salt Lick was nearby and went for lunch. A friendly waitress/bartender sat us outside with our dog on a covered patio at the edge of a field with large trees. We had a bison burger and a Caesar salad. Both were yummy and the service was great. Looks like they have a stage for bands beside the patio and there is a walking path around the field under the trees. Great place whether you're viewing the poppies, just passing through or taking a drive through San Francisquito Canyon. read more

We went to this restaurant for Fathers Day. Looking forward with all the good reviews. We were greeted and received drinks. The place has no air conditioner and it was extremely hot. Our children ordered pizza that was on the menu. About 20 minutes later the waitress comes back saying that I have to order the pizza from the vendor outside. Why didn't she tell us from the beginning? This is after we had already ordered. Our kids were hungry. I go outside to check the vender and small pizza was about $25 each. I go look for the waitress and told her,"We need our check". The miscommunication and food taking too long. Come to find out, she said it's ok, " we haven't cooked your food yet!" 30 min later. Restaurant didn't charge us for the drinks and we left. Disappointed on Father's Day. read more

Decided to go get some dinner at this place recently. There was a nice enough atmosphere and waitress. The music was at just the perfect level that you could hear it and enjoy it but you didn't have to try to talk over it; the perfect volume level. Wasn't busy, the place was less than half-full. Ordered ice tea, a pizza, two side salads and an appetizer of fried pickles. Began to conversate and after a while wondered where the salads were. Then after a bit longer she brought out the pizza holder and the plates and we figured the salad was coming... but instead the pizza showed up. I asked about the salads and appetizer and she said they were "on the way". The house salad showed up warm, not even a hint of coolness, then the appetizer showed up. The "fried" part of the fried pickles was so soft it just sloughed off when you tried to pick them up and the pickles were slimy inside. Then there was the pizza. It was so doughy and under-cooked that it was difficult to pick up. The bottom was completely pasty white and it folded like soft rubber. The crust still had uncooked dough in it. The ice tea was really good though. And the waitress was super nice. She didn't even seem to be aware there was an issue with the meal service, so Instead of trying to tell her everything that was wrong and ruining her evening and causing any trouble; I just paid my $61 and I'm never going back. Except maybe just for an ice tea, I suppose. 6 months ago I ate there and thought it was pretty good. A month ago I stopped in with a friend, and after looking around for someone and seating ourselves, we sat there for 8 minutes and never saw a person... so we left and went somewhere else. After this last experience I'm not sure how they can operate the way they are, except that the people at the bar probably don't mind much. read more

Horrible service. 1/2 the table ordered and the waitress walked away. She then came back and took the rest of the order about 30 minutes later. Then the food came out one at a time and was so full of salt. The only thing that was really good was my granddaughters grilled cheese. That came out after a mix up where the waitress put in for chicken fingers. We witnessed an entire table of 4 get up and walk out as they didn't even get a drink order in. Sad but true!!!! read more

I had an appointment in Lake Elizabeth earlier today, and I've been meaning to check this place out for a while now. I had my mother with me and we decided to have an impromptu lunch, so... Voila, here we are. This place is just the neatest find. The vibe was lively and joyous, but in that happy-go-lucky tone of a small town. The server was warm and bubbly, made us feel very welcomed. This was a true tavern feel. Nothing stuffy or stodgy about this place. There was a live band performing in the outdoor back area, comforting chatter in the nearby bar area, and casual and comfy in the dining area, where we sat. The food was quite good. You can tell when a kitchen puts some love and pride into what they do versus those that just do what they need to do. They even make their own potato chips, in-house, and they happened to be the absolute best I've ever had anywhere. SLT is open again! It's a really nice spot on the old golf course (no longer functioning) in Elizabeth Lake. It's a beautiful setting with views of the mountains and lots of green space. They did a really nice job of fixing it up... there is plenty of outdoor seating and a nice bar area (their liquor license will be approved any minute according to our server). Today we shared a Caesar salad - it was really fresh with just the right amount of house made dressing and croutons with plenty of shaved parmigiana. We both ordered the special, which was shrimp n grits. We live in the south part-time, and their version got the stamp of approval. It was very tasty with plenty of nice seasoning. The shrimp were fresh. Our server was great. Looking forward to going back to try other dishes - they take pride in the preparation of fresh, innovative takes on their dishes. It was our first time. According to the website, sundays open till 9pm. Got there a little after 7 and found out they close at 8. Part of kitchen has closed so burgers and pizza was all that's available. The place looks nice and clean. There were 2 party's there, a couple inside and a group outside. We sat inside. Service was attentive. The lady was sweet and brought our menu immediately. Ordered waters and iced tea. All 3 of us Got the mac and cheese bites and burgers Med rare. Our burgers came in reasonable time. To our surprise, the burger were cooked perfectly Med rare and they were tasty and juicy! We were very happy with our food and experience. We have driven by this restaurant for some time now. We made a point of going here for breakfast after church on Sunday morning today. We were greeted by Noelle our waitress and found out she co-owns it with her husband. We had a great time talking with her and she gave us some good tips on the menu. The restaurant is clean and atmosphere is relaxed. We had a leisurely breakfast and the food was outstanding. My husband and I both had delicious meals. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. We were given our choice of any seat and our drinks were ordered and brought to us in short order & our server Brook recommended the fresh made chips to start - they were outstanding & the queso was so good. The four of us tried different things & all were bomb! I had the shepherds pie which I will definitely get again, my son had the burger which he devoured, mom had the pastrami which she loved and sis ordered the small pizza and still took half home cause it was still big enough to share. Crappy cook and not much servicing from the waitresses. 2nd time I've visited in since they've reopened and it sucked both times. 1st time had the fish and chips "special" with soggy breaded fish - YUCK! Last time 3/23/25 a "crispy chicken sandwich" that wasn't crispy and I'm not sure that was some sort of chicken product? NO MORE! Don't know what happened to ownership or management but it's nothing like it used to be before the closure. Negative 5 stars would be accurate. Is everybody there hungover? Did the cook have any cooking experience at all before hiring? Restaurants are hard work and require serious dedication. For those that can cut it great rewards follow. My wife and I saw this place on Facebook and thought the pizza looked good. We got a pepperoni and also a bbq chicken pizza tonight. The restaurant didn't have an easy start, having to close shortly after opening due to Covid-19. They pulled themselves up by their bootstraps and kept pushing forward. I haven't had the opportunity to try the whole menu...yet, but what I have tried, I love! When the previous owners closed, I was concerned that we wouldn't have variety of places up here on the mountain. It was a sad day to see the old place close down.
