Linda is the best ! I have followed her here from their original location in rancho peñasquitos. I started seeing her when I was 17 years old and had my first job in the same shopping center. Now 13 years later I will make the drive from Escondido (like near the safari park) all the way to Carmel valley to have Linda cut and style my hair. She is an absolute artist and slays the hair game. Forever a very very happy lady leaving her seat. Call ahead and book an appointment, they do take walk ins but get busy quick! They take men and woman at the salon and have a shopping section in the front with multiple brands of hair products. I left with a deep conditioning mask by the Brazilian blowout brand and have used it for years as well. Great product for thick hair and in the summer to add some needed hydration. Our family had a very negative interaction with this place. Not friendly or welcoming to special needs. We live nearby and thought we would try this place for our family. We went with my 9 yo special needs daughter and asked if they could just do a cut (no shampoo) with her. They told us to come back in 1.5 hours when it was calmer in there. I appreciated this idea. When we arrived back the front desk person gave us to a stylist who was incredibly unfriendly, especially for working with any child. No smile, no introduction, or talking with us. My daughter is non-verbal and was signing to her and trying to be friendly and engage. Little-to-no response - we got that her name was Acre (spelling?). The woman started immediately spraying water and combing her hair pretty frantically without any care, which started to upset my daughter. Honestly, it would have upset any person the way she started spraying and combing and pulling quickly. I actually thought does this woman cut hair for living?! It was odd,.... My daughter started to shake her head from the pulling of hair. I was then trying to calm her down, which I knew would take a few minutes. The stylist during this period basically said she would not cut her hair. So we just had to leave. We received no apologies or comments from anyone as we walked out.... For reference our daughter has gone to other salons her entire life and successfully received haircuts. Sometimes you give someone a second chance & they totally come through. My first review was not so great for the salon. However the owner reached out & asked to make amends for the less then perfect service. Today my husband went in for his second cataract surgery across the street at Scripps so I dropped into get a shampoo & blow dry. What a lovely shop this is. As I enjoyed my shampoo & blow out I watched as customers who are regulars come in all happy to have their hair cut. I watched one first time customer come in & Michael, the manager, gave him an awesome hair cut. So detailed, so artistic. The gentleman was so happy. He will most definitely be back. Martha, who did my hair, was wonderful. Best shampoo & so patience drying my very thick long hair. When I went to pick my husband up the nurse commented on my hair, I told her about California Cuts across the street. Thank you Michael for great service today. It more then made up for last time. Found: a great hairdresser that does highlights at a reasonable price. Holly, at California Cuts, colored my roots and hi lighted my hair and it was the best result I've had in years. She also knows how to treat her customers with kindness and consideration and is a true professional. I highly recommend her. I've also had great haircuts from Kim who took me from a shoulder length bob to a short and sassy layered cut. What a difference it made and I feel so much more confident with my new "do". In search of a salon closer to home due to the pandemic I stopped in California Cuts to see if there might be a stylist who was experienced doing Brazilian Blowouts. I was told Linda was their specialist for this treatment. I was hesitant but took a leap of faith and Linda has proven to be the silver lining in the pandemic. She is hands down the best stylist I have ever been to. Her knowledge of hair and attention to detail is second to none. She also took the time to educate me on the best shampoo and hair brush which have made my life much easier. The worst experience I've had at a salon. The promised price to do my hair was $66. When I arrived at the salon at 8:30am in the morning, the day of my birthday party, I sat in the chair and got started on the process. The stylist, Maria, tells me after she being in the chair, hair parted, ready to go that she canNOT honor the price promise. It is going to be $89 more, total $155! I explained that's a significant difference and not what was promised. She then offered a $9 discount. Insulting to say the least. She wasted my time, and now my hair will not be ready in time for my party. My advice, avoid this salon!!! 9/12/17 - the Owner of Salon called after the above post and reassured me this was not how her salon operates. I am seriously very disappointed in the cut that I got today. I came into clean the back of my hair and the sides not get my hair chopped off. I was very clear in my communication when I explained "I'm still growing my hair out and I like the length and that I can comb my hair behind my ears" but somehow all the got translated to chop my fucking hair off. It doesn't make sense to me. But what's worse is that it's cut so short that I can't get another cut without it getting shorter. I didn't spend several months growing my hair out so that it can be chopped off. It's a waste of my time, my energy, my effort and my money. The person who cut my hair cut it two months prior. She even remembered me when I came in today. She listened well the last time so I came back looking forward to see her again. I'm not naming her and I'm hoping this message comes to you as an opportunity for coaching all your stylists in how to listen because all my cut tells me is that she wasn't listening if at all because it couldn't be any further away from what I wanted. It even makes me feel like she decided for me what I wanted or that she knew better about what I wanted but I will tell you this is not at all what I wanted. It's so far from it. The lady was nice and the haircut was affordable. That's not to say that I couldn't have done a better job myself. I'm actually have to go to another place to get my hair fixed because I have my hair at a bunch of different lengths and there is no texturing to combine them. I am not to complain about the shampooing because normally I love to get my hair shampooed but it was just like a lazy lather and no scalp massaging whatsoever. Come to think of it she didn't even use conditioner which is crazy!! I think it's probably a really bad sign that when I first walked in all the women who work there had very boring straight PLAIN hair. As we speak I am regretting my decision to impulsively just go get my hair trimmed somewhere close. I'm really disappointed because my hair does feel healthier but it also looks super lopsided and uneven. I would recommend going somewhere else even if it's a chain hair place or your five-year-old niece who is learning how to play with scissors. I feel like I just dropped $25 on the ground and it is a very sad, unsatisfied feeling. I would have given this place a two except for the fact that I had hair all over my pants upon standing up from my chair. We are talking long pieces of hair. Once I got to my car I had to full on take off my shirt, shake it out and I even thought about taking up my pants and just driving home without them. Pissed at myself for letting someone do a bad job on my hair. I wish I hadn't paid them. Worse yet, Im too nice so I left a tip too. read more

Update: I read some of the recent reviews and I don't understand the nonsense, it's just sad. People complain about the most craziest things. The price is too expensive, seriously?! If I'm not in town getting my hair cut and colored by my favorite Hair Master then I'm paying double and the experience isn't even the same (so that rarely occurs). Del Mar has a lot of hair salons but I find this one to be the best for me and it's beyond affordable. These people work really hard and charge almost nothing. If you don't explain to the stylist and aren't clear with what you want then that's your own fault. The salon is clean and up to date. Parking is convenient and next to the grocery store and etc to run errands while you are in that area. I love that! I've never had any issue with the receptionist. They are friendly and always greet me with a warm smile. All the hair stylist are great and knowledgable. In my years going (and being a little nosey) I've noticed that clients have been with these stylists from recent to long term. I'm talking even ten years and cutting their whole families hair. I prefer my stylist over everyone because I've been with her since I was in high school and I'm 30 now. She cuts my crazy, thick, curly, hair and I only trust her. I admit I have went to a couple other salons in the past but no one cuts my hair like her. She is so sweet and cares, not only about my hair but about me personally. She has great memory and remembers things I've told her that I completely forgot about. That says a lot about a person.
