I truly love Salty Dog and have always enjoyed dining in, which is why this review is so disappointing for me to write. Unfortunately, my recent delivery experiences have been consistently below the standard I've come to expect. The first time, my Asian Chicken Salad arrived without the dressing. Another order my food arrived without the grilled chicken and the rest of the food cold. This latest order was the worst--I found a long hair in my salad. This isn't an inexpensive meal. As shown on my receipt, the salad alone was nearly $22, and my order totaled over $57. At those prices, I expect much better quality control, especially when it comes to food safety. I've never had an issue when eating at the restaurant itself, so I hope this review brings awareness to the quality of delivery orders as well. Customers ordering takeout deserve the same care and attention as those dining in. What a wonderful Valentine's Day dinner we had here the other night! It was totally unplanned and it was perfect! Hubby has frequented Salty Dog mostly with his colleagues, so I was glad to revisit here again after so long. He was bragging as to how good everything is, and was dying to try their pretzel of all things, so we walked right in at around 5PM. We were seated at a high top table over by the bathrooms, but that didn't bother us. Our waiter was super attentive and really chill. He gave us plenty of time to decide and explained how big some portions were for sharing. We finally decided on our beverages on choice first - a blueberry crumble beer for me and an angry orchard for him. Mine was very fresh and surprising; a great compliment with the pretzel that was HUGE! The cheese may or may not have been beer cheese, but it was addicting! A hidden gem right there under your nose on the menu - get it! The boneless chicken wings with their Kentucky whisky BBQ sauce was absolutely AWESOME - we got the small and it was plenty for us as we also got the hamburger sliders with cheese. I came in to order some food to go. I sat at the door and order a drink or maybe two. I started off with kettle and sprite. The bartender made the drink and drop off the menu. I order mozzarella sticks and a grilled chicken Cesar salad wrap. The drink was perfect. My food arrived quickly and I finished my second drink. The price was right and left. The place was super clean and the bartender was very attentive. I arrived home and ate. The wrap was amazing. Hot spot in Bay Ridge that is always popping. It is the perfect sports bar, pub and grill on the avenue. Once you arrive at Salty Dog, you will walk an inviting atmosphere in a renovated firehouse that offers al fresco dining and seating at a firefighter-themed bar. I love the fire-engine red truck parked by the tables and the fire hydrant pump on the bar. It is so exciting to watch the game on big TV screens and also have popular music hits playing that adds to the fun and excitement of the restaurant. You can also host a party in the beautiful private event space. Now onto the food - For the appetizers, I get the soft pretzel that is so freshly baked (buttered and salted). Served with two choices of dips (Gulden's spicy mustard and soft warm melted cheese). Both are very well-matched for the pretzel. If you are unsure of what you are vibing to begin with for appetizers, then I would suggest asking for the "Combo Sampler" that includes buffalo wings, potato skins, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks & jalapeno poppers. For the meal, I usually either get a burger or wings. I love classic burgers, so I would suggest that or either the "Salty Dog Standard," which is an elevated classic in my opinion plus the special sauce (chipotle mayo) and you can ask for it on the side if you would like to taste it before using it on your burger. I also highly recommend the "Carolina Classic" burger that is flavored with BBQ sauce, cheddar and onion rings. Salty's burgers are perfectly spiced and top-notch! Another classic is the buffalo chicken wings (I am obsessed with the boneless wings and I love spicy) and they offer several sauces as well. Sandwiches and wraps are served with french fries. I like getting the curly fries and that is the perfect pair. Additionally, I love that you can either get a quick bite at the bar with a cold beer, wine, and/or brews while also offering meals (pastas and entrees) at the table. Big shoutout to Nick, who is our waiter and always takes good care of us, so he is very appreciated. Salty Dog provides such a variety of bar food, experiences and ambiance. The service is always top notch. You can always count on attentive service from the wait staff to bus service guys/gals. The TV's provide a variety of sports for all fans. The only sad caveat (in my opinion), there is only one news channel (FOX) on one TV, which caters to only one side of fans unfortunately. However, we love seeing the teachers who are there on a Friday afternoon after a long week, enjoying a meal and sharing stories. Seeing plumbers, pipe workers and other construction workers at the bar having appetizers and a cold beer talking shop. Then, there's the older crowd in the back enjoying an early quiet dinner before the younger crowd comes in for the late dinners and hang out. The young families with small children is also a nice sight most early evenings. Salty Dog offers a children's menu which has caught the eye of some of us older folks too! read more

We used to go to "Salty's" for the bar and nightlife and it was always a good time. I was there this week with some friends for dinner and I have a whole new perspective on the place. We were seated in a roomy booth in the back. The decor is firehouse themed and is interesting because there's so much Brooklyn history on display. I ordered fried pickles for an appetizer. Salty Dog has a million flat screens with every live game at the same time. The other night most people were there for the Knicks playoff . I ordered at the bar (a young man offered his seat very nicely!) The service was great as usual. It's a real neighborhood spot! Posters of FDNY and all nice people just enjoying drinks, food, friends, sports-- the finest things in life ...They pack the salad so nicely/ the chicken is packed separately and very well in foil. I just found out u can also choose steak or shrimp. But I'm going for wings next time (probably to stay and watch a game). All the people with burgers and fries- looked SO great. As I mentioned, it was empty, totally opposite of what you usually see here. I've been here on two other occasions and I enjoy their Penne. Very cool bar themed after local fire fighters, and their work. It might be owned, and ran by firefighters also. Fully staffed, and very attentive bartenders. Drinks were on point. Many TV's to watch sporting events, and table games located in the rear. This is a bar and restaurant with high table seating along with barstool seating. It also has another section for private events. It was very packed with a diverse crowd; mostly younger adults. So this place is great for nighlife action. Stopped by to get a drink, so happy they have all this outdoor seating! Since the place is all open to outside they had a few spots open at the bar so I sat down in a chair by myself and got a drink. Have to say this, but I felt a bit awkward with how many political talks were happening around me, this is definitely and older white guy spot. Very Republican. Even got hit on by some older guys that could be my father, about 10 of them that definitely are regulars as they seemed to know everyone by name. This place definitely has a ton of different options for beer. Only about 20 drafts but they have bottles of cans galore. Even a few hard seltzer's (though I wished they had more then Whiteclaw's). Was feeling a bit peckish so I ordered some fries. They came out crispy and hot. They actually stayed crispy the entire time I was eating them, love when my fries don't get soggy! The highlight of the fries though were all of the sauces I picked to try. The Chipotle Mayo was the best!! So freakin good, I was tempted to ask for a container to go. I also got the Garlic-Parmesan, very tasty super cheesy less garlicky, and the Chipotle-Orange, was told this was super hot but I would say it was more spiced then spicy tasty but I wouldn't order it again. I have been at the salty dog twice recently and neither time has been a good experience. The first time I sat at the bar during a week day and had the most miserable nasty bartender ever. He not only was rude to us but was rude to the person he was working with as well who was basically doing his entire job anyway. He was extremely dismissive and out right rude. I've never met such a miserable person in my life. The second time was at night on a Friday. I was shocked by how the server (I believe his name was John) (old bald server) spoke to the other staff members. It was absolutely disgusting to me. Just because he was "busy" he was ruthless to the other staff saying they sucked and yelling at just about everyone. Funny since he wasn't really doing much... he did more talking than working. I asked around and apparently he is the owners brother... honestly shocked and disappointed the owner of such a great place would allow his brother to speak to his other employees like that and run around his restaurant acting like he is above everyone else. The food is amazing and the other staff is awesome but these two ruined my entire experience at this restaurant. We've been here twice -- once for drinks only, once for dinner. They had a few options for discount pints when we came in to drink which was nice. Good service and super friendly. When we came in to eat, service was a bit slow. Food was good with large portions, but definitely on the pricier side for pub food. We did bring our 2-year-old and they had a kids meal option, and we didn't have any issues having him there, which is nice. We also got a few domestic beers which were definitely on the pricier side for a bottled bud light. We'll definitely be back, at least to watch football games and have drinks, but not sure I'd make this my go to spot to eat. Highly recommend the burger, though. read more
