While the steak was great at medium rare, it was covered in fried onions, and the ratio was way off. Too many onions, not enough meat, and it was too oily. The patio is nice, but it took the waiter a while to approach, then several wines weren't available. Wouldn't recommend, there are many places that are way better in Rochester. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants to dine at when I am in Rochester. I have been here on 4 separate occasions. I have tried various things on the menu and my favorite meal was the 10 oz NY Strip steak that was accompanied by beautiful mashed potatoes and asparagus. The dressing was fantastic. Steak sauce was not needed to add since the steak had so much flavor. It was perfectly done just the way I like it medium rare. Thanks to the Chef, it was one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Rodney was such a pleasure, he served us and the evening was pretty slow. I didn't mind because my friend and I were well taken care of. We both had a glass of Alamos Argentinian Malbec which we enjoyed every single sip. We explained to Rodney how we ran around all day long going to various appointments at Mayo. I was surprised for a Friday night that it was slow. We ate outdoors which was such a treat. We sat at a 4 top table facing Peace Square and people watched. Rodney was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and suggested many items. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip for an appetizer along with short rib tacos and my beautiful steak meal. I rarely ever pass up dessert and I love Crème Brûlée however I passed it up since I couldn't take another bite. This meal was the icing on the cake of our trip to Rochester. read more

Have been coming to Mayo for two years now, Salute had the best Calamari in town Now they have substituted red bell peppers for pickled Fresno chilies. What a shame the calamari is not what it used to be. And the menu is not updating,so you are expecting pickled Fresno chilies and you get red bell peppers. It's a shame, the employees don't even seem to care anymore. Maybe when Ruth Crist opens in the old Grande Grille location they will sit up and take notice! read more

This review is about 2 years late(I don't really write reviews), but I was so appalled by my mom and I's Thanksgiving meal here that I told myself I eventually needed to write this. I even typed up a short memo on my phone that night to assist my memory. First off, you should know that my mom didn't feel like being the main cook of Thanksgiving this year, and my dad hates turkey so I had checked various restaurants' spreads and chose one that I thought was tasty. My mom drove from an hour away to meet me(at our reserved time) in the early evening of Thanksgiving. I'll break this down in order of the menu First course: No bisque available(which is what we had wanted), Fall Harvest Salad was actually decent Entree: House Smoked Turkey-tiny, awful portions, served practically cold Sides: We chose: Maple Bourbon sweet potatoes(served cold and plain tasting), Charred Sweet Corn(slight char, but it seemed like it came from a can, lukewarm), Savory Cornbread Stuffing(bland and lukewarm). Dessert: No homemade spiced creme brulee(which is again, what we had wanted and spelled wrong on their menu), and I honestly don't remember any mini pies. We were starving and barely given enough food to make a dent. We received no water refill and any mixed drink we wanted wasn't possible because they were out of various mixers. Our waiter was rude and aloof. Nothing complimentary was offered nor any apology. I believe a complaint of being short-staffed was muttered, but the place was barely busy. We waited on hold 4 minutes to speak to the manager who eventually offered us a free meal. We returned and I recall not being very impressed yet again. In summary, they absolutely butchered my special Thanksgiving meal with my mom and didn't really redeem themselves upon our return. I wouldn't set my expectations too high. read more

Stayed at the Marriott & ate here a few times. Reservations are not necessary (no wait usually) but available on OpenTable (for those point collectors). Staff is nice and friendly. Food comes out pretty quick. Quality of food is hit or miss. Things I liked: - Wings - Meatballs - Build your own pasta Things I didn't like: - Salad (not fresh) Things I was indifferent about (but probably won't order again): - Steak - Quesadillas If you're looking for a quick meal with decent prices, come here during their happy hour (3-6PM daily). I was staying at the hotel across the plaza and was looking for an evening carry out dessert. We decided to get each of the four they had on the menu, since the room has a mini fridge. Needless to say, none of them made it into the fridge. We decided to try their dinner, the following eve, and we were not disappointed! The ribeye meal, and Parmesan walleye were outstanding. The sides of asparagus, mashed potatoes, potato wedges, and Broccolini were a perfect complement in their respective plates. Great Wine Bar in Rochester! They have a large selection of wines, with a variety of affordable wines for those of us on a budget. It is great for a happy hour after work, and the food is really tasty. I had fish and it was delicious, tasted really fresh, despite us being in Minnesota. Their sweet potato fries are crispy in the outside and soft on the inside, which for me it is the perfect way to cook fries! I also highly recommend their Pecan Pie. Loved this restaurant in the lobby of the Rochester Marriott Mayo Clinic Area. Friendly and attentive service! I always give a higher rating if the restaurant splits the serving for you if you tell them that you plan to share the meal. My husband and I shared an order of the Eggs Benedict. I would give the manager zero stars but the remainder of the staff was friendly and the food was actually good. I stayed at the Marriott and this bar & restaurant is on their premises. Because of the location, we were down at unusual times while they were open. Once there was no one at all at the bar. My wife called out for service and no one came. She proceeded to the front desk. They called someone to come out and the manager emerged from behind the bar. Her first sentence was "what?" Because of their location, we were there again. The staff was exceptionally slow whether they were busy or slow. But the food was good and close to my room. The service at the restaurant was in complete opposition to the magnificent service from the hotel staff. I was incredibly disappointed despite the fact that the place looked very nice and the food was something that I would order again, if I knew I had at least an hour to get a panini. read more

Convenient location with outdoor seating overlooking Peace Plaza. Enjoyed the experience and music. No wait on a Saturday night in the Summer to sit outside. Food was very average. Calamari appetizer was too heavily breaded, squid was not fresh and marinara sauce was not well seasoned. Linguini and mussels - mussels were very salty and not fresh tasting. Maybe I should have known to not get seafood in Rochester! I'd go back for meat and a beer - mostly for the location and outdoor seating. read more

Salute Wine Bar in Rochester, MN was NOT worth the money! I ordered a salad that was supposed to come with avocados, but didn't. Asked the waitress about it, she said the cook forgot, then gave me like 3 thin slices of shriveled up avocado. My drink came with a shriveled up old orange slice on the rim! The waitress/hostess looked pissed off and had no hospitality skills. The risotto and the marinara tasted like they came out of a can, can pretty much taste the tin from the can. None of these dishes were worth the $15+ they charged! Until now management and higher quality standards are in effect, I would NOT recommend that dump! read more

It's walking distance to anything downtown including a block away from Mayo Clinic. I had the wild rice soup a few times and it's so good! A must try if you like soup. Really amazing food. I had the blue marlin smothered In a white crab sauce with carrots. This particular item is not on the regular menu. The food was artfully presented and perfectly cooked. My friends tried a couple of the pasta dishes with salads and assured me that they were excellent. The atmosphere is nice with low lighting and a live pianist. My only complaints are that if someone is seated next to you in some parts of the resturant, they're so close it's as though you're eating with them and the service is a bit slow. Avoid at all costs!! Keep your receipts, and watch your bank statements. My girl and I ate dinner, added a tip and signed the bill. A week later I noticed an EXTRA CHARGE TO MY BILL. Talked to the manager, he said he would refund, but NEVER DID! Shady place deserves to be shut down. This place I guess was nice but it also was located in essentially the lobby of the hotel and it's not worth as much as it costs. We were the only couple in the whole resturant and they decided to seat us in the area I like to call the spillover section ( it was across the hall from the main dining area where you were not sure if you were in the lobby or the resturant) and you could hear everything from people in the lobby to people on the floor above. My wife had the steak which was alright but not worth as much as it was yet also came on top french fries? I'm unaware of this new trend but the last time I checked you usually don't put fine steak on a pile of french fries. I had the walleye which was pretty good (but I've had better for cheeper) also on top of a plate of sweet potatoes fries. Funny they call themselves a wine bar considering there is a bigger selection at olive garden. They have a nice drink menu and the Salute pizza we ordered was really good. Our server, Ruth, was great and super attentive. I guess this review is me shouting into the void at the Owners/Managers, but the with this place is no one has any idea that it even is a restaurant. It's right in the heart of the super chaos center of Rochester. But there's just one rinkydink sign on the side of the building more by the hotel, you don't even know that there's a main entrance right on the patio. And the "& more" in the sign doesn't tell you that this is even a restaurant. If they want this place to do well as it could, maybe change the sign, make it a little more clear on the sidewalk that this is a restaurant and wine bar. Otherwise who's going to go to an unmarked restaurant and wine bar that's not even labeled a restaurant! It would be too bad if this place went under due to simple poor marketing. I called and ordered a bowl of chicken noodle soup. She told me she would have it ready for me. I hang up the phone and walk down there. It wasn't ready. The woman who took my order was busy rummaging through her purse the size of a carry-on bag. I said I am here to pick up the soup. "Oh, let me go get that ready for you....I didn't know when you were coming." Come again? Why did I call and order it ahead? Common sense would make one think I was coming immediately. I waited five minutes before I said something to the hostess who went back to get her. A few minutes later, she comes back and says she wanted to keep it warm. The soup is piping hot. She charges me $5.69 for the bowl of soup. I asked her to repeat it and she said "that's just a bowl." I said, I asked for a bowl. Then she proceeds to tell me that she doesn't make the prices and she gave me more than I asked for. I didn't even get a piece of bread with my $5.69 chicken soup served in a 12 oz coffee container. I ask her why it took so long and she kept saying "she wanted it to stay warm." She couldn't even apologize. Terrible. This soup better cure cancer for how much it cost. read more
