Delicious sums up my first experience at Lumi.. I have wanted to try this restaurant for the past year, but with so many options in the downtown Rochester area, I tend to choose the same places. This time I chose Lumi and was not disappointed! From the very flavorful appetizer ( Muhammara) that I will crave forever complimentary puff bread, to the savory Turkish take on a beef stroganoff..which left our mouths filled with warm, toasty spice flavors.. which lingered well after the meal was done, to a more simple but equally as perfect in its own right.. Schnitzel! Crispy. Crust.. the best garlic mashed potatoes & both dishes came with a generous side of roasted Brussel sprouts! There was so much food & we brought leftovers home! We both are excited to return - & talked about the food the whole way home! Our server was helpful & explained what the items were and the interior of the restaurant is tastefully decorated, upscale (but we walked in casual & did not feel out of place). Ordered the salmon with spinach sauce I had 4 months ago that was the best dish of my life. I asked for no garlic in the sauce (just like I did 4 months ago). The waiter told me they could not make the sauce without garlic which was puzzling. When the dish came out, it had a side of Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. I told them it was supposed to have spinach and that I didn't order Brussels sprouts and could not eat them. When they brought the dish back, it had spinach on top of the salmon and the waiter said it came with Brussels sprouts. The menu had no mention of Brussels sprouts...... I happened to have a photo on my phone of the meal 4 months ago as it was so memorable. When I showed it to the waiter, he simply said, it comes with Brussels sprouts. This was not the meal I had enjoyed previously, the salmon was dry, the potatoes were dry, I didn't get sauce, and Brussels sprouts were forced on me. I was extremely disappointed with the lack of customer service and the poor quality of my meal. read more

Came to Lumi at 5:00p on Friday we were able to be seated right away. The restaurant is very beautiful with a modern nature vibe I love the way the menu is set up all of the items are described which is super helpful for those of us less familiar with Turkish food. I love the mezze platter you get to try a bunch of the unique dips including hummus, baba ghanoush and girit (one of my favorites it had feta, pistachio, basil and walnuts), the carrot tarator surprised me it really highlighted the sweetness of the carrots, also enjoyed the muhamara which has red bell peppers walnut, sesame and tomato paste. This also come with a puffy bread. I unfortunately forgot to ask about tea but I enjoyed my Turkish delight martini. Just know it's definitely on the sweet side. My aunt has a nut allergy and they were super helpful pointing out which dips and other menu items would be safe for her. The food came out super fast! Many in my group wanted to order the lamb chops but they were out. Makes me think that's one of the star menu items. The next best was the lamb shank which was very enjoyable nice tender meat cooked in the lamb juices served with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. I had the beef stroganoff. I feel like it's the first time actually ordering it from a restaurant. This was not the version I've seen before with thick gravy and egg noodles. It was a colorful dish of peppers generous beef tenderloin strips and a savory mushroom sauce served also with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. The ambience is unparalleled with soaring ceilings and exceptionally clean airy faces complemented by warm velvet orange booth seating and almost retro Green and wood with a blue bar area. The melange of cuisines is harmonized beautifully. Shashuka was not typical -- the eggs were cooked into the tomatoes -- but delicious. The Sujuk Benedict was done very well with the spicy beef sausages complementing the hollandaise sauce and poached eggs. Finally made it to Lumi and honestly... I don't know why it took me so long. Sat at the bar and had their espresso martinis, which were hands down the best I've had in Rochester. Perfectly balanced, smooth, and dangerously drinkable. The inside is so cool -- modern, stylish, and vibey without feeling pretentious. It's the kind of place that instantly makes you want to stay longer and order another round. Absolutely cannot wait to come back. If you haven't been yet, consider this your sign. read more

This review is for the breakfast portion of Lumi. The place is one of the most beautiful interiors in Rochester. The food was delectable. The crepe had a wonderful blend of textures and flavor. Appears that this is a new restaurant open like a year ago in Rochester downtown the moment you get in there you are definitely going to see a wide seating area with aesthetic interiors a beautiful bar area with a very good collection of whiskeys and cocktails. The lighting was perfect and it's amazing for group setting you just gotta make sure you have a reservation if you're coming in during the weekends And sometimes during the weekdays too the service was absolutely good. They made sure that we get the food very well and they ensure that the taste was good as we requested. You gotta try their dip sampler with the bread. They were outstanding and it's good for sharing. The food, service and atmosphere was wonderful! Peyton was our server who did a fantastic job. I had the chicken tikka marsala, my husband had the beef in mushroom sauce. The flavors were amazing. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and they brought out a piece of their unique cheesecake with chocolate sauce and fresh strawberries. This was my second visit. Second time was more disappointing. Tables and chairs were not arranged properly. More chairs all huddled around tables with no proper place settings. Some of us did not have silverware and we had to grab it from next table. The waiter ( Duriyar- not sure if ai got the name right) had an attitude. On a Friday night they were out of ground meat and Kofte and our sedans choice were out. Unbelievable. We had to settle for something and that was not too great either. This restaurant is so cute inside! The Mezze Plate was DELICIOUS, but you only get one piece of puff bread which isn't enough and you get charged for more. I went to order my meal and they out of everything I wanted (Kofte, Adam Kabob, and Lamb chops). I was really disappointed because I went there for the Turkish food and I don't see how you're out of half the items.. I ended up going for the creamy mushroom with beef which was really good. Went for lunch. Food was tasty but completely overpriced. $65 before tip for two people who only had water to drink. We had the Mezze platter which was 5 dips served with a large flatbread. This was delicious. The set price is $25 which is $5 per 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of dip (smaller amounts of hummus and baba ganoush, with more for the other dips). While the dips were good that seemed a little steep for lunch time. The lunch menu overall is pretty limited. There's only one middle eastern dish available - the kabob at nearly $18 for a plate of literally 8 bite sized (1 inch) cubes of chicken, a cup of rice with chickpeas, a 1/2 cup of pickled cabbage, and a tortilla. While tasty, this was overpriced for the amount of food, even for lunch. The prices seemed more appropriate for a dinner service. The overall service was ok, with responsibility shared amongst staff. We had one very kind waitress who was fabulous. The other waiters were brusque and inattentive. The ambiance is nice. Very clean and warm atmosphere. Plenty of seating and nearby parking. Conclusion: food is good but not worth the price (at lunch). Recommend considering coming for dinner as it may be more of a value and worth spending the higher price, assuming the portions reflect a dinner service. read more

We enjoyed the mezze platter, which included five dips to be eaten with a loaf of warm puffy bread. Mains tried were kuzu Tandir (slow roasted lamb with a slaw), beyri sarma (kebab wrapped in lavash) and chicken hunkar begandi. What a great experience! Three of us had dinner last night at Lumi and each one had a different dish--on purpose, so we could try their Turkish-inspired foods. We had Carrot Tarator and Hummus for appetizers, which were both excellent! Our entrees were the Lumi Special, Beef Gavec, and Lumi Iskender Kabob. All entrees were excellent, a unique experience and new to us. Wow. The service was excellent the food was delivered fast, and the ambiance was excellent! My only suggestion would be don't order your entrees too early. Ours came quickly on the heels of the appetizers and we had a table filled with wonderful food. All I can say is wow! We were in Rochester for the day and heard about Lumi so gave it a shot for lunch. Right off the bat you are hit with increadible ambiance of a well laid out bar and dinning room. Service was amazing and our waitress was top notch. We ordered their Beef Stroganoff and Chicken Tikka Masala. After placing our order they brought out some puff bread which was great. Shortly after our meals arrived and both blew us away. The Stroganoff was not what you would normally expect. It had beef but also mushrooms, onions, peppers and dill pickles! The flavor was amazing. The Masala was equally delicious. Top it off with a Spanish cheese cake with Chocolate and a Turkish Coffee and we waddled out the door completely satisfied! I would give them 7 stars if I could! I ordered the lamb chops, which were cooked fine but tasted completely unseasoned. We tried Lumi after an appointment at Mayo two days ago. At 12:30 on a Thursday, it was completely empty. That should have been our first sign. Our greeter/server was very friendly and our table by the window was lovely. The restaurant's interior is cavernous and somewhat cold. We ordered the cream of mushroom and lentil soups to start. They came quickly and were good, but needed salt and pepper. For lunch I ordered the Parisienne burger ($19.95) ) and husband ordered the Lumi special kebab ($29.95). What I received was the Filet Parisienne ($29.95) and husband received the Lumi special breakfast. When I pointed out to the server that I ordered the burger, she told me that no, I had ordered the filet and she did not offer to correct her mistake. My husband had to wait for his correct order while I ate. When his food finally came, it was good but lacked seasoning. Mine, however, was almost inedible. The filet was tough to the point that I couldn't cut it with the knife. It included mashed potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts. The sprouts were delicious and the potatoes were very good but almost cold. Unfortunately, half the food was covered with what was supposedly a Bernaise sauce. It was a thick, greasy, goopy mess that I had to scrape off. I ate about 1/8 of the meal. When we were ready for the check, our server brought a piece of cheesecake to make up for my husband having to wait for his correct entree. When she brought the kiosk over for us to pay, we did so quickly as we wanted to get out of there. I should have looked closer because when we finally checked, she had charged me for the incorrect entree. We won't ever return to Lumi. If a restaurant that has 2 patrons can't serve the correct food, properly seasoned and hot, it doesn't deserve to be in business. read more

What a great place. We were here for a Mayo Clinic visit and found this place. The menu posted looked interesting. I never pass up Turkish food so we went in. My Kofka was amazing. The grape leaves had great flavor , cold Greek style. My only critique of the entire experience was that the grape leaves themselves could have been a little more tender. My wife had a chef salad with chicken that had a grilled cheese, which was a non milk Mexican cheese. I don't understand how that is made but it was very firm, slightly salty and amazing. We finished with the rice putting which I guess is more of a cooked down rice and a liquid. Also incredible with pistachios on top. And lastly the baklava made of pistachios and honey etc was rich and delicious. We ate outside but the inside is beautiful. Looks like a Turkish palace with HUGE archways and white linens on the tables. The bathrooms were impeccably clean. We both really loved our lunch here. Such a beautiful restaurant! Our server was wonderful and every employee we encountered was happy, friendly; it felt like family. Our food was delicious and the portion sizes are BIG! We were served with the most delicious bread to go with our meal and then at the end of the meal, we were served hot Turkish tea. It had us all feeling amazing after such a big meal. It's a miracle tea I think lol. Then when we walked out, we were given a lemon liquid to cleanse our hands. I wish I would have gotten the name of it, smells so good. We will be back for sure! Outstanding food, outstanding service! We began with the Mezze appetizer plate: 5 wonderful dips (my favorite was the carrot--based one, but they were all good). My Filet Parisienne was excellent. The meat was tender, the sauce was exquisite. My friend had a Beef Stroganoff that he said was the best he'd ever had. His wife was less enthusiastic about her Kofte, which was little patties of ground lamb & beef. It seemed like they needed a little something to "dress them up." My husband's beef kebabs were very good, although his sides were just okay. My mashed potatoes were very good; the vegetables seemed like frozen California mix, but they were cooked just right. Two of us had wine that was very good (a Cabernet and a sparkling Rose). They brought Turkish Tea and a small plate of Turkish Delight on the house to finish the meal. Our waiter was attentive and personable. People in this city often ask for more variation in the kinds of restaurants available: this is a perfect choice. You can either try some of the authentic Turkish food or opt for something more mainstream. I hope people patronize this restaurant so that they will stay! read more
