I finally had a chance to go there this past weekend and it was amazing!! My in-laws are regulars and always telling us about how good it is. Thankfully, we made a reservation so we were able to sit inside and not outside in the hot heat, although there were lots of folks that were sitting at the tables with the umbrellas and seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely! I started with the bourbon and bacon which was stellar!! I loved the bacon so so much. The pepper one was a little bit too peppery for my liking and I still appreciated the chance to try it. I wish I could just get a plate of bacon when I come here because the bacon is so so good. I continued the evening with more pig products and got the pork tenderloin with the maple bourbon glaze and wild rice and asparagus. This was super Duper Duper Duper excellent!! And I totally loved this meal. I was able to complement it with some Sangiovese from I don't remember where but it was also really light and delicious for a summer day. Back to the meal, the asparagus was perfectly cooked and the wild rice had really great flavor. Not surprisingly, I didn't have any room for dessert because I already had lots of food and I also stole a bite of the beef and brisket burger which was excellent along with the french fries that were also very good. read more

Nice location and patio. Too bad the menu is limited and overpriced. Don't dare complain about your watered out salad dressing. The wealthy owner has thin skin and will take offense. She should not be in the hospitality business. read more

We had a nice dinner here--sat outside on their patio. It was our first meal at a restaurant since March, because of the virus. We had this nice charcuterie tray. Some local cheeses and meats. My partner had pork tenderloins with some sort of rhubarb sauce. I had the trout. Both meals were good! We recommend this restaurant! read more

Such a nice little gem of an indoor/outdoor wine bar (with nice selection of beer and Tattersall liquors). Excellent chef, with a simple, nice variety menu. Local sources wine, beer, cheeses. We drove 2 hours to spend afternoon in Lanesboro. 4 of us. Trout, mussels, brisket burger and pork medallions with raspberry sauce and wild rice. Amazing. The flavors were so good-I cannot wait to go back. The bread pudding, flourless chocolate torte topped off our afternoon. Nice outdoor seating. Looking forward to the interior upstairs to be complete. What this cute family has done to this former creamery is well worth the drive. (oh and the raspberry wine slushy is a refreshing treat too!). Kids drinks, the aquarium is recommended too (complete with nerds and Swedish fish!)-it was so comfortable-we spent a lot of time here-so relaxing to sit outdoors and just visit-enjoy! read more

This is a lovely wine bar in a charming town. They have a very nice patio area where we dined but the inside was also very nice. We had the Autumn charcuterie board and it made a lovely, light lunch with interesting, tasty assortment. As with almost every place since Covid they were short staffed but the owner/waiter was prompt and friendly. We plan to return to try other items on the menu. read more

We had a fun evening at this eclectic new restaurant. For an appetizer we had the bourbon bacon sampler. The bacon was a little undercooked but otherwise it was delicious! We ordered our dinners and then waited a while, but we were in no rush. Unfortunately, our bill came before our entrées did which made us chuckle a bit. The entrées were delicious and worth the wait. My husband ordered the brisket burger and I had the grilled watermelon salad with chicken. Next time we're in Lanesboro we'll visit again! read more

The food was just sad. The trout was far too buttery. Yes butter tastes good, but not in that quantity, and smothering everything in butter can't make up for bad cooking. Could not even taste the measly shriveled up morsel of fish in the corner of my plate. The veggies were basically just butter as well. The other dishes our party ordered were also trash. The service was poor. They very obviously don't care about the customer. read more

Great place for a meal and drinks on a casual bike ride. Food and drink selection was great for a small town. We had the the Asian Snake Bites for an appetizer. Very tasty, though not a big appetizer. My wife had a house salad, perfect for a salad. Then she had the Penne Primavera has a main course. Perfectly prepared and ample food. I had the Beef Short Rib and Brisket Burger. Nicely down on the burger. Fries had parmesan on them. My only concern on fries is that many were small size which is always harder to pick up and eat. My wife had a glass of wine and I had a tall, dark beer. Drink selections were great. Of course, the last five miles back to the car in Whalen were slow because of eating too much. First time out to a restaurant since Feb. We love to go out to eat and this is a must return to...even if we don't bike to it. read more

Visited Lanesboro for a short weekend getaway and went to Unwined 3 times in 2 days. The food is great and waitstaff is very friendly. If they were open for breakfast we would have gone for that too! read more

We visited Root River Unwined after serval local recommendations for a fantastic dinner. The chef came out and greeted us sharing he had been serving up trout for 30 years. We had the trout and penne pasta (vegetarian option). Trout was delicious, first time I have tasted trout. All the fresh veggies with the pasta made it an incredible entree. Very much would encourage you to try! We are going back tonight. read more

We stopped in to Root River Unwined in early October while on a fall color trip to Lanesboro. We were intrigued by the creative menu and decided to give it a shot. We had a fantastic meal and enjoyed everything we tried. I started with the Bacon and Bourbon pairing. What a treat and what a cool way to start a meal. What's not to like about bacon and what's not to like about bourbon. My wife had the smoked trout dip which was excellent. Wonderful flavor. We decided to share the brisket and beef burger which was way-way above average as far as burgers go. And then we finished with the flourless chocolate tort which was a great choice. The service was excellent and their Covid process seemed safe yet not too uptight. We will definitely be back. It is clear to see how much time ad effort went into planning the restaurant and especially the menu. Creative without being pretentious. read more
