Tonight was our last night in town and we finally made it to Terza upon the recommendation of our client at Mayo Clinic. We were not disappointed!! The greeting and service was excellent. The manager (owner?) came around to genuinely check on our table and all others. The food each of us had was a 5!! I had gluten free penne with grilled chicken, tomatoes and broccolini in olive oil. We were in Rochester visiting our daughter who works at Mayo. We decided to go back to Terza Ristorante for our second time, and it lived up to the positive experience we had a couple years ago. The place has a great feel - dim lighting, open kitchen, good energy without being over the top. Easy spot to settle in and enjoy a meal. Our waiter was excellent for most of the night. He knew the menu well and pointed us toward the handmade pasta over the boxed options. It came with an upcharge, as expected, but worth it. Toward the end of the evening he started disappearing for longer stretches. We weren't in a rush, but it went a little past what you'd want. Food was excellent. I started with the oysters - fresh, cold, clean, with that nice briny hit. For my entrée I had the scallops over fresh pasta with mushrooms and thin crispy potato chips. The scallops were spot on with a good sear and the whole dish came together really well. My wife had the chicken piccata (which I sampled - and really liked), daughter went with the wild mushroom tagliatelle, and her boyfriend had the pappardelle with grilled chicken and scallops. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We also a bruschetta app to start, which was not as flavorful as I expected. The wonderful warm bread disappeared fast. A couple Caesar salads were ordered and received compliments from those who partook. We left full and satisfied. Overall, really good experience and consistent with our first visit. We had an excellent dinner at Terza recently. The service was very good and the environment nice. But the food was outstanding! We had read the Fried Cheese Balls were a "must order" and we were so surprised at how good these really were. Accompanied with the mother sauce, these were completely delicious. My wife had the fettuccine chicken alfredo with their own housemate noodles. She loves a good fettuccine alfredo and this definitely was a good one. I had the Tortelloni Rosa with 600-day aged prosciutto, sweet peas, mother sauce, and garlic cream. Absolutely amazing and the al dente on the noodle was so perfect it almost made me angry. Our one slightly negative was with the tiramisu. It was more "English pudding" than a true tiramisu. We missed the traditional flavors of a tiramisu, but that being said, this was also a great pudding. Got to talk to Jarrett at the bar and he made sure to give us the best Blueberry ginger mocktail! He added a carved lemon heart that made my date night with the wife perfect! 5/5 The food was delightful. I thoroughly enjoyed my walleye dish. The gnocchi was nice. I wish there was a little more to it instead of needing to add the meatballs. 4/5 This a nice place to dress up and take someone you love to eat. We were stuffed up and couldn't finish dessert. We visit Rochester frequently and have wanted to try Terza so we made reservations on a weekend evening. Terza is nicely decorated with brick walls and white table cloth. Perfect for a date night. It is dimly lit but we didn't have trouble reading the menus. Even though the restaurant was full, we were sat right on time which was wonderful considering the lobby was crowded. Our server Sean was outstanding. We could tell he was juggling several tables but he constantly checked in with us. We never felt that we had to wait for service. Sean went over the menu and offered nice suggestions. Warm bread with olive oil and balsamic is complimentary. We started with cocktails which came out quickly. For an appetizer, we ordered the burrata skewers with crostini which was delicious. The pasta is made in house so of course we had to order a couple of pasta dishes. The lasagna was excellent as well as the Chicken Fettuccine. The pasta was cooked perfectly and both dishes were full of flavor. Two of us ordered entrees of the mushroom risotto. One dish we added sausage and the other dish we added shrimp. Excellent. The only thing that was a disappointment was the noise level. It is soooooo loud! There has to be a way of adding sound board to the walls or ceilings. I dine out frequently and this was one of the top 3 loudest restaurants I remember dining at over the years. We were literally using the tops of our voice to have a conversation. If you are hearing impaired in any way, sit on their outside patio so you won't have an issue hearing your companions. read more

We found Terza unexpectedly based on online search, the menu looked nice for a family birthday celebration. The interior is classy and dim lit, and was nicely bustling even on a cold Monday night! We thoroughly enjoyed this meal. Calamari starter was fried just right, the bread was lovely, cocktails hit the spot. The walleye special, lasagna and chicken piccata all excellent. Dropped back in for happy hour over thanksgiving weekend and food and atmosphere is still top notch for Rochester. Deals on pizza and house wine were great. We were drawn in by the location and then appreciated the warmth of hospitality and welcome. This was our first night in a new town and our first meal together in years. So the occasion was special, and we decided Terza was that place for the night. Alex was an amazingly attentive bartender and our server for happy hour. We ordered the meatballs and pizza and salad and a couple more tasty things off the happy hour menu. One of us had a mocktail and the other a really good espresso martini. The pizza and meatballs were tasty and the salad was fresh. The bruschetta was a table favorite. The espresso martini hit the spot; the mocktail wasn't as delicious or balanced as hoped. The place was packed, and the lighting and ambience was wonderful. Given that we were looking down the barrel of an adventure of the medical treatments for the next three months, this was an important celebration of life. It's right downtown near Mayo Clinic with lots of buzzy shops/restaurants/pubs nearby. Inviting entryway, and a warm ambiance in the dining room, with a cool seating area that allows you to watch the chefs whip up unique Italian creations Terza has a lovely outdoor patio (which was full, sadly) - we popped in last minute without a res on a gorgeous Spring eve, and the ever friendly host was able to seat us at a high top indoors, with breeze from the patio rolling in Sips: In the spirit of cultivating Summer bodies, we stuck to mocktails (which despite my skepticism were delicious) - the Bluberry Ginger Refresher was the clear winner, notes of rosemary & ginger play well with the blueberry puree Bites: For starters, we dove into tuna tartare, which was my fave dish of the night and poss the best tartare I've ever had (wasabi & capers/cilantro & avocado are a perfect complement to each bite) and East Coast oysters were generously meaty and very little brine taste - we couldn't figure out what was in the chili dipping sauce, but delicious Summer bodies went out the window with entrees - Insignia scallops were a highlight, with buttery truffle/mushroom fond blanc and fried potato crisps added an interesting crunch. My mom is a discerning critic and was a huge fan of the chicken picatta and wild mushroom risotto (I'm cheese-shy, so I trusted her opinion) Definitely rec stopping into Terza for a light bite or full Italian dining experience when in the area :) read more

I've been to Terza in Rochester Minnesota quite a few times. This last visit on Friday, November 7 was just as good as my first visit years ago. The environment lends itself to both a more dressy night out and to a more casual environment, and that flexibility is not often found. The food is always top-notch, particularly their seafood given that we are a landlocked state nowhere near any ocean. They always have fresh scallops, fresh tuna, fresh oysters - they simply cannot be beat in this town, particularly but in most of Minnesota besides a few places in the Twin Cities. Almost every time I go - we start with an appetizer such as their crispy calamari, which is always fantastic. The appetizer I had this time was their charbroiled oysters. I love oysters, raw and grilled and absolutely eat them as many times as I can when I'm in New Orleans. These were every bit is good as the ones that I get in Louisiana directly from the ocean within a 24 hour period. I cannot say enough about the Terza salad, which is a salad with fennel and peppadew peppers and arugula, and a great house made vinaigrette. I get almost always get their insignia scallops. Because of the quality of the scallops but I also love their wild mushroom risotto. This time I got the risotto and was able to add seared scallops to it. It was so good that I'm still thinking about it 3 days later. Everything everyone had was great - I highly recommend their homemade pastas as well. If you are in Rochester and looking for a more upscale experience or simply are more of a foodie, this is your place. Hands down. read more

Annie is amazing to work with, super accommodating, and an excellent and timely communicator. Annie helped me think about portions, and how to cater for non vegetarian and vegetarian friends. Forgotten order, raw chicken, melted plastic for Christmas dinner. I held off posting until now because I was repeated assured that Terza would "make things right" for this horrible experience, as they promised early on. Now almost 2 months later, I know this was not the case. As background, our family has ordered from Terza for our Christmas dinner the past several years. We have always had good service, good communication, and good food that was easy and straightforward to prepare. I share this, because I know how the food is supposed to arrive ready to heat. This year, several weeks before Christmas I placed a catering order that included our usual chicken parmesan, lasagna and side orders to be delivered on Dec 23. I had e-mail and phone conversations and confirmations for a delivery. The first big issue was that they FORGOT ME. On December 23, more than an hour after the delivery time I called the restaurant to be told that maybe I was supposed to pick it up. I pointed out the order confirmation that it was a delivery. They then acknowledged they had forgotten to deliver my order and they needed to call the person in who was responsible back to the restaurant. I received my order later that evening. The usual Reheating instructions were included. THERE WAS NOTHING THAT INDICATED I WOULD BE COOKING RAW CHICKEN on Christmas Day. As such, I refrigerated the food upon delivery. On December 25/Christmas Day, I was entertaining out of town family - including small children. But when I opened up the chicken to prepare it for reheating, I found that it was breaded and RAW (see video). This required me to stand in the kitchen and deep fat fry dozens of chicken breasts (video). What was the point of having this catered!!?? Frying chicken that should have been precooked was time spent over a stove, rather than entertaining and being with family. It smelled up my house and required additional clean up. I thought that was the only issue! I followed the instructions to Reheat the lasagna and then started smelling plastic. I pulled out the lasagna to find that under the foil lid there was a layer of plastic wrap. This was melting into the lasagna. (photo). I then quickly checked the other items being reheated, and those too had melting plastic wrap underneath. Again, I had not even thought to check since the instructions were just "put them in the oven with the lid on". There has never been plastic wrap on these items in other years. Finally, there was NO parmesan cheese included with the order of chicken PARMESAN. I was so angry at the service and the inconvenience and how I had to spend Christmas morning. I called the restaurant December 26. I talked with one of the managers about my experience. She acted horrified and apologized. She asked how much my catering bill was and I told her. I also noted that I had included a 20% gratuity ( $60-which is just hilarious when you consider the "service" I received) She told me she would be sending out a gift card in the next couple of days and was really sorry. I honestly assumed it would be for the full amount we spent ($400). I thought that was a genuine gesture of good will and that they wanted to ensure my continue business (personal dining, business events, and catering). Flash forward 3+ weeks and we still had not received anything in the mail. I reached back out to the same manager. She assured me that she had mailed a gift card shortly after we spoke. I noted that we had not received it and also she confirmed it had not been used and so she said she would issue another one. More than 2 weeks later, I still had not received the gift card and reached out again. A few days later, I got a $100 gift card on a $400 bill. I was even angrier at being strung along for weeks. I called the same manager. This time she really was not apologetic. She told me that her boss would call me. He has not. read more

Perfetto I have been escorting my 91 year old mother to the Mayo Clinic for nearly a year now during her cancer treatments. Yesterday she completed her treatments and I took her to Terza to celebrate. Everything was superb - beginning with the spot on attentive wait staff service, very well crafted Negroni cocktail (love that they use Amaro Montenegro over run of the mill Rosso Vermouth), and the crazy good deep fried cheese balls. These were served with the house "Mother Sauce", which is the chef's grandmother's home recipe. My first comment to the staff was that they could close the restaurant and simply sell this sauce in jars at the grocery store and retire - it's that good. On to the main course, mom had the chicken scallopini with house made taglietelle and I had the house made gnocchi. The chicken was pounded thin and tender, breading perfectly seasoned and sauce well. Generous portion served with 4 cutlets and a nice side of pasta. The house made pasta was tender and paired with a really delicious mushroom sauce (I could just have plate of that for dinner and be happy). But the star of the show was the gnocchi. I have had many gnocchi in Italy. I have made many gnocchi at home. If you have had gnocchi you probably know it can be light or it can sit like a rock in your belly. This gnocchi was on another level. It was so delicate and fluffy, and sauteed to give it a nice browned surface. I cannot say enough about what a skilled and delicate hand it takes to make a gnocchi like this. I would drive the 5 hours back to Rochester just to eat this again. We finished our meal with the dessert special. It was a lemon semolina cake with a perfect sugary crust and an incredible whipped vanilla-marscapone cream and blueberry sauce. We tried two times on two separate occasions to eat at this restaurant. Both times we were told there was a long wait if we do not have a reservation. Fortunately the second time we were able to sit in the bar area. The restaurant was very nice and the staff was plentiful. Our waiter was nice and informative, but he was a bit hard to find towards the end. We ordered two appetizers, the chicken meatballs were the best. It was not too dry and very flavorful. The chicken piccata was good as well. At the end we ordered the lemon cello tiramisu. Very good. Our bill came out to about $45 per person. I would recommend this place. Enjoy folks. read more

This was such an amazing experience! I wish we would have discovered this little gem the first night we were in town. There were so many delicious options to choose from and so many ways to mix and match pieces of the menu. Favorites were the Shrimp appetizer off of their special menu, the wild mushroom pasta dish (with fresh made pasta) and the Lemon dessert. But honestly we really delighted in everything that we tried and would have loved to explore the menu further! Our waiter was so friendly and made some fantastic suggestions. You could tell he was as much in love with the menu as the chef must be! The atmosphere was perfect. It was just the right level of dim, which provided for an intimate and romantic setting. The service was truly world class. We were shown to our table at the exact time of reservation but had to wait a bit longer than usual. As soon as I was getting concerned we were approached by Kelly who we learnt is the new GM. She apologized for the delay and promptly took our drinks and appetizers order. Wow! It was almost she read my thought - a super sensitive person to little things. Soon she introduced us to our waiter Noah and the service levels took another leap. Noah is by far the best waiter I have experienced including at some state banquets overseas I had the fortune to attend decades earlier. Noah would have easily fitted in perfectly if he were to serve at the Buckingham Palace State dinner. He was exceptional- not just overly courteous or deferential but truly and genuinely authentic , knowledgeable and empathetic in his service standards. Our family took turns to tell him this was our best experience at Terza which was always exceptional. Kelly then mentioned to me that it was Noah who sensed that we had been waiting for few minutes which prompted her to come over. Now, this is saying something about the exceptional leadership of Kelly. Who not only gave credit where it was due to a team member but stepped in quickly herself to fill the gap. Best dinner in Rochester! Lovely ambiance, decorated for the holidays, superb staff. My friend had the jumbo chicken meatballs to start, they are not kidding when they say jumbo, they are huge! I had the apple fennel walnut salad, topped with dried cranberries and castelano green olives - SO good. We stopped by this beautiful restaurant for a late dinner. Drinks were first priority and sounded delicious. Old fashioned, mojito and margarita were ordered. Each had good flavor of alcohol, but lacked the exceptional flavor of muddling ingredients like mint or orange, etc. Later we realized that these were on tap... definitely not worth the price paid for a mixologist drink. Salads were amazing! We got the pear and an ancient grains special. Both were exceptionally fresh and delicious. Tuna tartare was ok. Just way too much salt... guess that this must not be the norm bc it's one of their specialties. Chicken parm and chicken pasta were both very good. read more

Our server was OK but disappointed in his infrequent visits to the table to check on taste and quality is the food served. The lobster bisque was great as usual but the calamari was piled on some mayo sauce that detracted from its taste and made it soggy. The roasted oysters were cold and very watery as well as salty. Scallops were good but smaller than usual. There is increasing competition in Rochester for the dining dollars and I would personally look elsewhere in the future. read more

I was hopeful because the tagliatelle looked hand made. But the Mushroom Tagliatelle dish made the whole experience very disappointing. It was so bland it was as if they ran out of salt. The food is AWFUL!!! The service and decor are great but the actual food is wrong - Margherita pizza made with Parmesan - so wrong! Ravioli is CRUNCHY and RAW. They have misunderstood the term al dente because this pasta was hard and difficult to bite into. The mushroom risotto was meh and had a curry undertone instead of being creamy. Lastly, "mother's sauce," the chef's mother's Mariana was completely basic and sour. I wish I'd asked for a refund! We were in town for the week and had the misfortune of wasting our money here. The only thing the town of Rochester gets right is American, burger & fries but everything else is awful. If you're going, stick to the national chains. All other independent restaurants - big and small - are sub-par to say the least...even Chinese takeout. read more

After hearing great things, this one fell short. Due to a hearing impaired individual, we made a request to be seated in a quiet area outside of the line of traffic. The ambiance is lovely, however, we were seated in the highest trafficked (people repeatedly bumping into us to deliver food or get where they were headed) and noisiest area in the building right behind the check-in area (phones ringing & people waiting to be seated.) The food was marginal - The lobster bisque was over the top salty. Bruschetta was quite good. One entree was great, one was not even hot. The dessert (peach upside down cake) was extremely dry. The service was prompt and extremely efficient. Right after we settled our ticket the GM came over and told us they needed our table for another reservation & he would be happy to provide a complimentary beverage for the inconvenience.
