The Redwood Room reminds me of a Speak Easy where you have to know the magic words to enter. Located in the basement with a dimly lit ambiance. The Bruschetta was very good and the Fritters okay. There are some outstanding entrees: Apple Cider Pork Chicken Milanese That pork was voted exceptional by all of us. And the chicken had amazing flavor. So-So entrees: Creamy Cajun Saute Shrimp Risotto Both were okay. We wouldn't order them again. Service was great. Food took a long time despite us being there at 5pm. read more

During a quick visit to Rochester, my daughter and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at the Redwood Room. Located in a basement space, this is a charming, cozy spot offers tasty food and the chance to hear some live music. Our friendly server started us off with a gorgeous bread service with oil for dipping and flavorful shredded cheese to top it off. I had the dill salmon as my main and it was great. This lovely, large piece of salmon was well cooked and topped with a creamy dill aïoli. It came with the very tasty house, rice and fresh asparagus. Wife and I went for supper on a Wednesday evening and the place was packed! We enjoyed the live Christmas jazz being played while we waited. She ordered the lobster ravioli and it was very good! I ordered the apple cider pork medallions. I'm not exaggerating when I say this was THE best meal I had while up here. They were juicy, and well balanced with the apple cider sauce. Just perfection! We had a very nice dinner listening to music here. It's located downstairs from pizzeria above... Started with good drinks, including my amazing old fashioned!!! Appys of bruschetta and risotto balls were both very good. Bruschetta with basil we're 5 small pieces, but great basil flavor. Risotto balls were good with nice sauce. We ordered salad, pizza and chicken for our food. Although the Thai pizza is one of their best sellers, none of us liked it or would order it again. Just strange flavors for a pizza on a different texture of herb flavored crust. Great service and a nice evening! read more

We came here because it was walking distance from our hotel. From the outside it looks pretty plain. When you enter the door there is only a stairway downstairs. At first glance the place looks like a dive bar, but as you venture deeper in it is more of a quant restaurant. There are not that many tables and when we were there they had live music with a guitarist. The service was pretty good at first, but it was a bit slower towards the end. Most likely because it was busier. The food was good. We had the risotto fritters, barramundi and chicken basillini. My favorite would have to be the fresh bread and olive oil they brought out. This is a small unassuming restaurant just at the edge of the core downtown area, but it was worth a visit. The menu offers American style dishes with choices for everyone, though quite limited for vegetarians. The portions are large but they permit sharing. In our case they were more than willing to split the grilled salmon in the kitchen for no extra charge. The salmon was delicious and was served with buttered rice and steamed vegetables on the side. The ambiance is geared towards the younger crowd with dim lighting and tables close together. We asked to be seated under a lamp so we could see each other and the menu! read more

Our server was excellent and all patrons seemed to be getting excellent service. But the ambience was what really did it for me. Live music is often played, adding to the welcoming vibe. I have tried several dishes here and found the salmon, chicken Milanese, and creamy Cajun sauté to be particularly delicious. I highly recommend the latter with fettuccini or pasta instead of rice. They will happily accommodate your request if you ask. The potatoes were done well and serving size was reasonable with 4 medallions. Also, tried the carrot cake for dessert. It's a huge portion and should be shared. This was a denser carrot cake, but moist with a nice cream cheese frosting. Nice selection of beer and wine as well. Reasonably priced for the quality. Definitely recommend. read more

Oh my God. Have I not done a review on the Redwood room yet? Because this is the easiest place in town to take for granted. For starters, you enter down a flight of stairs into a dark, wood paneled room, presumably much of the wood is of the redwood variety. Once there, you are greeted by a cheerful but not overly cheerful hostess or host who leads you to a nice solid Midwestern table made of --dare I guess-- Redwood? No I really don't think the tables are made of redwood. But it would be easy to take for granted, because you can almost forget you are in Rochester once you are down in the red room. But the food is delicious and prepared fresh and one at a time, and the service is always first rate. There is also some high-quality and low-key live music going on most evenings and you would be crazy to come to Rochester and miss the Redwood room. As newish vegans, my wife and I like to order the spinach salad (hold the bacon,) but I've seen omnivores enjoying all kinds of delicious meat and pasta dishes etc. read more

I have to be honest, I'm a little conflicted as my wife and I have been here a handful of times and have always had a great experience. In fact this seems to be the place we always select for a special date night. However we came last night and were disappointed. It felt like we waited to be seated for a time that was most convenient for them despite having plenty of open tables. When we got our food it was incredible, however the portions seemed significantly smaller then in the past. The waitress was nice but definitely showed no sense of urgency and worked at her own pace. Last evening we had the chicken Milanese and the lamb curry. The lamb curry is amazing - tender and so much flavor in the dish, we've ordered it a few times. The chicken was good, almost great, but lacked a bit of flavor. I added some salt to the buttery noodles and that kicked it up a notch. We also had the peanut butter chocolate cake for desert and that was delicious! We keep coming back to this place. read more

Last time I ordered from y'all was through either door dash or grub hub. My order was messed up, I called asking to speak to a manager and was told there was no manager on duty. They asked for a call back number which I gave but never heard from the manager. It's not like ordering from burger king where things cost a dollar or two. This is considered a high class restaurant in Rochester. A dish costs 20$ an appetizer 9-10$. These are the times where a good manger would do what's needed to bring a customer back but I didn't even get a call back. I haven't ordered from y'all since. read more
