Throughout this journey, I experienced exceptional skill, dedication, and compassion. Knowing that Dr. Brewster and his team were willing to devote that much time and effort to my care speaks volumes about their commitment to their patients. I will always be grateful for the expertise, perseverance, and professionalism they showed during one of the most difficult moments of my life. Thank you, Dr. Brewster, and thank you to every member of your team for giving me the opportunity to continue living and making more memories with my family. I cannot recommend Dr. Scot Brewster highly enough. He is not only an extraordinary surgeon but also someone who truly cares about his patients. I will be forever thankful. Chedid H.

My Surgeon, Dr. Frank Coufal is well known, highly recommended, he diagnosed me correctly after seeing my MRI and knowing all the positive results of his previous patients was my reason for being here. Surgery: L2 to L5 Laminectomy The RN and Nursing Assistant that prepared me pre surgery were amazing. In addition, I have to also mention the following OR staff that made my fears disappear and gave me the confidence in the procedure. Thank you to... Dr. Frank Coufal (Sou-fall), Surgeon Dr. Cheung, Anesthesiologist Cris Teena Hunt, Neuro tech The two ladies that eased my mind, comforted me, moved to to OR, operation table and to recovery room post op... HAYLEY IVIHOFF (Not sure about the spelling of the last name) NICOLE DONAHUE These two ladies were my angels. They made all my fears disappear and even checked on me in the Recovery Room. Thank you Hayley and Nicole! In recovery, I had the sweetest nurse, Lisa Shore. She was incredibly warm and helpful. Next three days I had the best care from every nurse/nursing assistant, physical therapist, occupational therapist, phlebotomy tech, folks that brought my meals and people that cleaned my room thoroughly every day. I hope I never need surgery or to be hospitalized. But if I do, this is the only hospital I will be choosing. I even made a video on my YouTube channel to thank everyone that cared for me. THANKS TO SCRIPPS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL LA JOLLA! After suffering from back pain for over 20 years (level 5 to 10, daily), Dr. Coufal's work released me from pain. The numbing in my feet and hands that made me unable to walk or create art (I'm an artist) was gone in recovery room. A week after surgery, I was walking without a walker. Now 5 months after, I am walking with no pain and don't take pain meds every day. If I over do it, I may need Advil but that would be for anyone.

As a Yelp Elite Reviewer the times that I have seen the many areas the hospital was crowded with machines and beds in the hallways some that didnt have sheets or ready to use. With the take over by UCSD tgey went through and changed many areas making the hospital more welcoming yet there are many areas still mussibg. The new UCSD Hospital is one that I xan recomend.

I had taken one Benadryl Prescription Capsule the night before due to an Allergy I was healing from on my left arm. When I had woken up at 10:30 AM I slept in that day on Friday. My has 2 Mattresses on my bed because a former tenant (Travis) put another extra mattress on my bed for more comfort. This blanket I was using that night was wrapped around my waist. I unfortunately was too close to the edge on the left side of my bed. Then I tried to get up from my bed. I fell off the bed and I hit my Head really Hard on the tile floor. I couldn't get up because I injured the back of my head, my neck , and my lower back when I fell off my bed. My Apple IPhone XR was being charged on my dresser that was located on the opposite side of my bed. I was in excruciating pain and I laid down on the floor in my room from (10:30 AM to 12:30 PM ) for 2 long hours. I live with a Group of 3 people. Their names are Michelle, James and Sharon. All of these (3 people) have (severe Mental Health Conditions). I am the only person who lives there without a mental illness. No one could help me to get up and off from my bedroom floor. Everyone was in their separate bedrooms. After 2 hours later at 12:30 PM. I had the strength to roll over on my right side even though I was in excruciating discomfort. I used my knees and then I put both hands on top of my bed then I had to pull my body up so I could sit down on my bed. I could barely move . Then I was able to get my Apple IPhone XR . I sent a message to Michelle who I am her part time Caregiver 3 days a week working in the house. I told Michelle who was in her room. I tried sending Michelle a text message telling her that I fell off my bed and I hit my head very hard on the floor. I asked Michelle to come into my Room and to help me get up off the floor and out me in my bed. Michelle didn't respond back to my 2 text messages I sent yo GM her on my Apple IPhone XR. Michelle didn't respond back not help at all. At that time, I had to call the 911, Emergency Dispatch Services at 1 PM to send an Ambulance out to my house to transport me to Sharp Memorial Hospital. The AMR Ambulance arrived at my house within 15 minutes. I was still in my room laying down because I was in too much pain and I couldn't walk. Steve this veteran paramedic was very caring and very experienced with the situation with my Fall Incident. Eduardo was new abd training to become a paramedic Wyeth the assistance of a trainer Lauren. Steve said he is going to put a Neck Brace on my neck and he also got a backboard to use when Lauren and Eduardo brought the gurney into my room. Steve, Edwardo, and Lauren took the sheets off my bed with me lying down on them. The safest method for me and them was to transfer me to the gurney from my bed using my bed sheets. Then I was placed into the AMR Ambulance and then I asked to be transferred to Sharp Memorial Hospital on Friday, August 14, 2026 . I arrived at the Hospital at 1 PM. I got an available bed in the Emergency Room within 10 minutes if my arrival time at 1:10 PM. Nurse Megan set me up with a Heart Monitor Machine and my Blood Pressure was taken every 15 minutes. The nurses station was monitoring my Blood Pressure and also checking my Heartbeats to make sure I was okay . The tech. Evan came in and he gave me 3 Warm Blankets he put over me to keep me warm . Then Dr. Byron Buckley the Emergency Room physician examined my Head, Neck, and my lower back with his hands. Then he used his stethoscope to hear my heart rate and to check if my heart rate was on the normal level. Dr. Buckley told me he had ordered me to take a CAT SCAN without Contrast Dye on my Head, Neck, and my Spine. I was taken by Evan the tech. to the CAT SCAN Room to get prepared to take this CAT SCAN Test on my Head, Neck, and my Back. The results showed I don't have no fractures and I don't have any Broken Bones. Plus I didn't take my Blood Thinner on Thursday, August 13, 2026 all day. The Good News was I didn't receive No Bleeding in my Brain. But I did receive a lot of Bruising to the back of my Head. I also sprained my Neck and I injured my Lower Back. I have to use a cane to walk around outside. Dr. Byron Buckley said it's going to take me several weeks or longer to fully recover from my Head Trauma with my sprained Neck and bruised Back. Dr. Buckley has prescribed for me to take Tylenol @ 325 Milligrams 2 pills once every (4 to 6 Hours) for my pain relief. Dr. Byron Buckley and his Medical Team did a very thorough analysis on my Head Injury plus everyone was very helpful and caring to my serious medical condition.

Upon arrival, I remained quiet and sat alone in the emergency room. This was my first experience at this particular facility, as I had only visited Scripps Green and Scripps Lajolla. During my ER wait, I felt anxious and apprehensive. The atmosphere in the emergency room was unsettling, reminiscent of a crime scene. A security guard wielded a long red stick, threatening to strike a homeless individual who refused to comply. The homeless individuals present responded with aggressive behavior, including yelling and screaming. After approximately one hour, I was summoned back to the hospital. The only available bed was located in the hallway, not in a private room. I endured a two-hour wait before receiving a CT scan. The CT scan technicians were unprofessional and sarcastic, giving rude looks, exhibiting a lack of courtesy and respect. Furthermore, four male nurses or staff members stationed at the entrance to the registration area engaged in inappropriate behavior, cursing and acting in a manner that belied their professional roles. Many of the nurses walked the hallways with egregious attitudes. NEver seen four of the female nurses act this way, I really was asking myself. ..Why am I still here in this ER and not driving myself to Scripps La Jolla, or green hospital. I Simply asked one of the nurses where the nearest restroom was..she gave me a go to hell look and walked right past me, not even answering me. In contrast, my attending physician, Dr. Katherine Ross M.D., was exceptionally pleasant and attentive. I had no complaints about her bedside manner. I am scheduled to undergo surgery at this hospital in the near future, but I have decided to cancel the appointment. I intend to seek care at a safer hospital where I feel secure and where professional medical staff conduct themselves with professionalism and respect. I will thoroughly review my medical bill with my insurance provider to ensure that I am not overcharged. While I appreciate my surgeon's expertise, I will not undergo surgery in an environment that induces fear and discomfort. I strongly advise individuals considering this hospital to exercise caution and explore alternative options. I have great insurance. I am not going to be paying to be treated like a piece of Garbage, to be scared and frightened in a ER. UCSD Hospital, Scripps Lajolla, and Scripps Green are all safer alternatives. Only.
