I hired Acorn Films after much prodding from my mom. When I was planning my wedding, I was…read moreconvinced I didn't want a videographer. I mean, who actually likes to see themselves on film? It feels so awkward! But, due to my mom's persistent nagging, I caved and started looking at videographers. That's how I found Acorn Films! As a newer business, they were very reasonably priced and were a total pleasure to work with. At the time that I signed the contract with Acorn Films, they had zero Yelp reviews (and zero reviews anywhere I could find!). So, I kind of went out on a bit of a limb. As the months passed between signing the contract and my wedding, I saw more and more of Shawn & Natalie's work through their Vimeo channel and blog. And I was really pleased with what I saw! You can tell that their editing work is just getting better and better. Fast forward to May, and my wedding day. Shawn & Natalie showed up right on time (if not a little early), set up, worked with the photographers and the DJs, and filmed away. When our photographer wanted to drive out closer to the ocean for a bit of a photoshoot, Natalie even helped drive me and my bridal party over. I barely noticed their presence at the wedding. Now onto the final product: the videos. You know, I hate to say it, but my mom was right all along. Videos are just so much different than photographs. Watching the short film made me feel like I was back at my wedding again. It's just different -- and I'm glad I went with a videographer. I loved my short film, it really captured the emotions of the day. The longer main film is something that I probably won't watch on a regular basis, but man... the short film. Totally worth it! Shawn & Natalie really captured some great angles of the first dance, the ceremony, everything. In many ways, photographs capture the best moments of your wedding. But to me, video captured some of the best memories. Seeing my now-husband recite his vows to me? I remember each minute of my wedding day and after reminiscing, I honestly don't remember seeing him. But, the pictures don't lie! He has every angle of each moment. What's crazy is that he has a shot behind me, and the next minute he's in front of me. What's crazier is that I don't even remember him taking those shots. Besides being invisible, he has a keen eye for artistic shots. One quality of great photographers is that they forgo the flash function and use natural light. In his 15-20 years of service, he must have mastered that craft along with physics (the one dealing with light). I'd say natural light shots make the photos realistic. Adding frosting to the cake, Sherman says he barely do any post-processing work. A photographer who can pull off those shots without too much photoshopping deserves a 3-star michelin award (the highest a restaurant can receive). In summary, hire Sherman if you want: 1) Top quality work (natural light shots). 2) A ninja who blends in with the crowd when taking shots. 3) A funny and nice guy. 4) Memories of a lifetime.

I had a big wedding and in retrospect wish we had hired two photographers, but Sherman is great, great, great at shooting people and that's what he focused on for us. I think my favorite shot was a portrait he took of me getting my red lipstick put on. We had a soulful connection moment and the shot is full of feeling. He also got a specail shot of me coming in the door with my dads. We had rain on our wedding day and the light was difficult, but Sherman had great strategies for dealing with both.
