This is specifically about the part of Samaritan Health Services that provides cpap equipment. Was any of my experience good? I suppose one or two things - a couple of the techs were nice and helpful- but no one could return a phone call. I've had a cpap machine for 14 years with a different company, which I only left because my insurance made me. I had zero problems in that 14 year period, and I had two machines that lasted 7 years each - and the water reservoirs had no problems. This water reservoir leaked after a couple of months. I left several messages with a receptionist who said someone would call me back. Didn't happen. I finally called on a weekend and the weekend guy got me to someone who got me a replacement. Then the machine itself started emitting a high pitched whine - constantly. These machines cost around $1400 to $1500 each and at that price ought to work without trouble. They don't. That machine was replaced, and I only had to make 3 phone calls before someone called me back. It came with a new reservoir, which after a few months began to leak - exactly like the first one. Again I phoned repeatedly, without a call back, and finally went to the office with my water reservoir in my arms, and was told by the receptionist that "the supervisor is in a meeting" and all the "respiratory techs were also in a meeting." Imagine my surprise to see one of the techs come out to speak with a patient, and a woman pass through the reception area who I later learned was the supervisor. I phoned the main Samaritan office and complained. Then I got a phone call from the cpap supervisor, telling me to come pick up a new reservoir. I was asked to speak with a tech, who told me that this was all my fault, including when the machine was squealing. I think after 14 years, and no malfunctions, I know better. The word "supercilious" is a 5 syllable way of saying "snotty." If you can get your insurance company to let you - do not use this service. Some insurance companies will give you an exception and let you use another company - do it - it will be a much better experience. They didn't have their act together a year ago - they don't have their act together now. Some customer service training for the supervisor and staff (every receptionist I dealt with was pleasant and tried to be helpful it's the tech staff and supervisor who need some work) might help - returning phone calls would be a good start. Considering it is a new facility bed and chair in room very uncomfortable. Sparse not cozy guess competition is not an issue. Staff friendly. Called to say we would be late (as directed by instructions) whoever I spoke to did not relay the message fortunately they did not give the appointment away. Had to sit for two hour to wait to be set up prior to going to bed for test. Poor tv station selection. Hair in shower. Ick. So, heres the backstory...I'm 70...I snore...after a lifetime of dealing with it I decided to do something about it...with a referral in hand from my primary care physician I made an appointment and went to the Samaritan Sleep Clinic on Hickory in Albany in 2017..I told the doctor that I had trouble sleeping...you know..those sleep demons that come and go...however,,,.embarking upon the sleep apnea journey I encountered no negatives with both sleep trials...the overnights there...nothing at all to complain about...as the wheels of medicine went round and round I finally received a CPAP machine...and began using it. Unfortunately for me after using several types of masks I found that I was not a good candidate for I woke up almost every morning (truth..I believe I had two successful nights sleep with the mask over a period of many months...with the mask off my face and the machine working away pointlessly..after months of unsuccessful use I made an appointment, spoke to the staff there and was advised to pay $25.00 dollars for an appliance to go into my mouth and to schedule a home sleep study..(I bought the appliance) but after going home that day and because I struggled for months to no avail attempting to get thru a night with the CPAP I just threw in the towel...I was actually sleeping worse since I got the machine...according to the staff there my sleep apnea was not "severe"..so I simply put this behind me and abandoned the whole idea of using the CPAP or the plastic appliance they sold me..resigned to the fact that I just wasn't a good candidate for this therapy...it was my decision...and adult making a decision for themselves....I have also been given a prescription for a drug called Tradazone...it is a non-narcotic sleep aid..it was not prescribed them originally....my physician in Tarzana CA thought it would do me good....I have been taking it off and on for several years...but I do not rely upon it in any way for nightly sleep..nor is it an essential part of my sleep therapy or life...now to the PRESENT: last week I received a phone call from a woman...a representative of the sleep clinic..she advised me that I could no longer have my Trazadone prescription renewed because basically I had not adhered to their instructions and directions regarding using the dental device and not signing on for the home sleep study..I found it interesting that the intent, based only upon her monologue... seemed to basically punish me by withholding the sleep medicine..a seemingly punitive step directed at me...I was polite...I listened to her as she ran it down..you didn't do this...you didn't do that...no sleep aid medication for you..I simply told her OK, no problem...a rational response from my end...no attitude..just "OK"......that was that....look, I'm a man...70 years old...a veteran...a father and a grandfather..a professional musician...I'm helping my daughter in law raise my 9 year old granddaughter...I do not appreciate being talked to as though I am a recalcitrant wretched little child who does not listen to a seemingly officious medical authority...this was my impression of the phone call...the woman seemed put off by my nonplussed manner. Look, I don't need the Trazadone...period...it just seemed to be a non-arbitrary response to their medical paradigm...I guess I didn't fit it...so no pudding for me...LOL...PS: I do not use recreational drugs...my drinking is rare...I like to be in my right mind 100% of the time..so this review is written by an adult male whose thinking is not clouded by any type of narcotic...no drugs..no painkillers..no drugs for depression..none of that....just a rational..reasonable man with unclouded judgement..jus sayin.
