A halal truck in Sheepshead Bay that I can finally trust will give me my bang for my buck! To be honest, I haven't tried too many halal trucks in Sheepshead Bay because (1) there aren't many of them and (2) the ones that do exist do not look too great. Typically, I would trek all the way to Bay Ridge on 4th Ave. to get some good halal, and I know that's a very long distance, but I swear I was crazy hungry every time I went! Anyhow, I did a little research online and BAM! Sammy's was the best and most rated halal cart on Yelp so I needed to check it out. My wife and I swung by, on a casual Sunday morning, and it was exactly where it was supposed to be located, on the corner of Coney Island Island Ave. and Brighten Beach Ave. As expected, there was no one waiting on the line on the busy street. What was surprising was that we were only charged $5 for each box of food! In the year of 2018, it's like finding gold when you find a halal cart that still sells chicken/lamb over rice for $5. By now, most carts are at $6 or even further north of that. So the verdict? Excellent quality! Being native New Yorkers, we considered ourselves halal cart food connoisseurs and Sammy's was right on with the best of them. We had a lamb over rice and a chicken over rice box and the meats were hot, fresh and tasty. The rice was also cooked perfectly. Besides the flavors, we loved the big portions too. We both added barbecue and white sauce onto our boxes of rice and the sauces were exactly as we have had elsewhere. Tip: Yes, barbecue and white sauce are the combination of sauces to go with! (not hot and white sauce) The bottom line is that you can trust the food quality and portions of rice from this halal truck. It's exactly what we were looking for. In 2014 when I moved to Brighton Beach this was the best halal food cart around. The rice was the real deal -- perfectly cooked fluffy basmati with all the herbs and spices but none of that fake processed barely seasoned yellow rice you find in the franchised halal carts. The chicken was in identifiable juicy chunks and their sauces were legit the real deal. Today I had the chicken rice...and I was devastated. Like "The Halal Guys" assembly line carts throughout Manhattan and gentrified Brooklyn, the rice was radioactive-orange and tasteless, the questionable chicken was dry and gristly and the white sauce was -- I kid you not -- freakin' ranch dressing. You can't visit New York and not eat at a halal cart! Yes, you can go to one in the City (Manhattan) if it's your first time or if you're staying there. But if you're willing to explore outside of Manhattan like Brooklyn in this case, then you should try one of the halal carts here. I've had halal food from Manhattan, it's good, it's delicious, it's nothing like anywhere else (*cough* orange county in CA). But I happen to have friends in the Brooklyn area who have their opinions on where to get the best halal food with the best value. So here we are...at this halal food cart in the brighton beach area of Brooklyn. We ordered the chicken over rice and the lamb over rice. I had the white and hot sauce put on the side for the chicken dish but went ahead and had them drizzle it over the lamb dish. Words can't express how much I enjoyed the food! We paid $10 for BOTH meals and was completely full and satisfied with it! Hot sauce is hot....so be careful with it. Every dish on the menu was priced at $5. Been eating here for about 5 years, the quality and prices have remained the same. As good as Halal guys in Manhattan, but beats them on price. Delicious food, quick service. Some of the best cart food in the city. He doesn't use the cheap yellow rice others do and his stuff is always fresh. Taste perfect. Be careful you don't get addicted because the platters can be fattening. Great white sauce, actually tastes like afghan white sauce and not the watered down yogurt they give at other joints. First of all the actual name is Sammay's not Sammy's. I don't think there is a relation to the now famous Sammy's halal originally from jackson heights, queens. I've been obsessed with their gyro for past 9 years. I still haven't had anything better than what they offer.

Tried theirs for the first time and loved it! Only thing I didn't like was they didn't ask me what to add in the salad (I'm very specific about what I like); when I go to other carts/places, they always ask what to put in it, but it's not a deal breaker by any means. They serve great food at reasonable prices. I usually take their lamb or chicken gyro, it's well cooked, never over-fried, and it only cost $3. The service is always courteous and what sets them apart in street vendors world, these guys make a GREAT effort to maintain their cart clean, which is important in street food business!
