I used this Jack Brown for a couple years while I attended law school at UT. I did not understand until now that a cleaners doesn't have to be this bad. The customer service at this place is a small step above adversarial. The people that work there probably hate dealing with people, and so they never miss a chance to stick it to the customers through microaggressions. The problem with Jack Brown's cleaning is that don't really do anything beyond basic cleaning. Unfortunately, I attract stains. And I've had them all: armpit stains, food, oil, dirt, and blood. Jack Brown does not possess the ability to thoroughly clean your clothes. They might give you a patronizing response if you ask, though. For example, one time I had heard them explain to another customer once that there's not a whole lot they can do about stains: they "run it through" and basically hope for the best. Well then the time came where I needed to bring in my *only* white dress shirt for special treatment. I somehow managed to get a small, but very prominent (and very embarrassing) oil stain on the collar. For some foolish reason, despite having heard they don't do stains, I somehow hoped the situation would be different for my stain. When I came into the store, the lady behind the counter was firmly fixated on her computer. I tried to draw her attention to the stain and asked if there was anything they could do about it. The lady behind the counter never took her eyes off of the computer. She flatly said, "Yeah, I'll put some of that stuff on it." At least she tried to hide the disdain. Needless to say, when I got my shirt back, the stain was still there. That's not to say all business is bad here. It got the job done well enough that I didn't go anywhere else (it was also just two blocks away from where I lived). A couple of years back there was a young lady that worked here that used to call me Sage Scarborough (not my name). She was friendly. But I haven't seen her in about a year and a half. I would say this place is not a bad place if you have some medium to low quality items that you need cleaned that cannot be machine washed. But if you want service beyond that, or if you don't want to deal with some employees who hate their job and are down on life, you should probably go somewhere else. read more

I brought a dress shirt and a pair of polyester shorts into this location. The dress shirt had a stain I asked them to try to remove -- I understand stain removal isn't guaranteed, and it wasn't removed, so I'm not disputing that loss. What I can't accept is what happened to the shorts. I explicitly told the front desk I wanted the stain treated only and did not want the shorts run through their machines. They acknowledged this request. When I got the shorts back, they were destroyed: rips and marks all over the fabric, and the zippers fused to the buttons. This is exactly the outcome I asked them to prevent. I brought this to the store owner, who sent the shorts out for "repair." I picked them up yesterday, and the shorts are still ruined -- the only change is new zippers. The damage to the fabric itself was never addressed. The owner told me the district manager considers this an adequate fix and won't reimburse me. A business that damages a customer's property after explicitly agreeing not to, then calls a cosmetic patch an adequate repair, is not taking responsibility for its mistake. On top of that, communication between the owner and the single employee at this location is inconsistent -- I've been told conflicting things by each of them, and the employee doesn't seem trained beyond ringing up transactions. I'd like the district manager to reconsider reimbursing me for the shorts, given that the core damage was never repaired. Did you know that no one in Austin cleans leather or suede? Neither did I until I dropped some buttery scrambled eggs on my green suede skirt (oops)! I looked high and low, visiting dry cleaners, and making phone calls until I finally found Jack Brown Cleaners who informed me that while they do not clean leather on site, they are willing to send it off to Houston. I called ahead and zoomed right over to Jack Brown. When I got there a little while later I did not identify myself as someone who had called, but the nice lady behind the counter put two and two together and asked if I had just called. I appreciate it when people pay attention. Then, as she took my skirt, she made sure to let me know that it would be kinda' pricey ($35) just to make sure I was okay with it ... I was. She also told me that it would take a while to get back since they have to send it outside of Austin. While I am still anxiously awaiting my skirt's arrival, I am so pleased with their customer service thusfar that I had to take a moment to tell you that Jack Brown cleaners will help you get your leather cleaned. I work for UT, so I wanted to find a cleaner near my work place so I can just drop off/pick up before or after work. So, I decided to give Jack Brown on MLK near Jimmy Johns a try. I got there at approximately 7:30am and a cheery lil woman was working behind the counter. She was super friendly to me and as I was organizing my clothes I noticed she greeted another customer by name. I handed her everything and pointed out stains or possible problem areas. She was eager to help me and she was quick to tell me about current promotions going on and coupons available! Score! I got my clothes approx. 2 days later. She immediately remembered me when I came through the door and got my order quickly. The dried mud and dog hair all over my black dress was gone! Double Score! When I returned later to get my duvet cover I happened to ask about them doing shoe repair. She stated that they do. I handed her some heels and told her I just needed new tips put on the stiletto. I asked her if they'd be able to get them back in 2 days because I'm leaving for vacation and she said she would put a rush on them. AND for no extra fee! Triple Score! I called the next day approximately 24 hours later and they were already there waiting on me! So, I can now affirm that this is the only dry cleaner for me! The customer service is beyond that of any cleaner I've been to!!! The wonderful woman who treats you like family is named Deanna. I found out she is actually the manager there. She is truely an asset to the company and I feel so much more comfortable knowing I leave my clothes in her hands! Thanks! read more

Please NEVER USE THEM! THEY WILL RUIN YOUR CLOTHES! I warn you that they will 100% ruin your clothes and put a little sticker on the receipt trying to blame you for the damage that THEY did. I took one of my white silk blouses in, and there were blue stains all over it. The lady refused to help me and said that there were stains on the shirt beforehand. They not only ruined a $200 shirt, but they refused to do anything about the matter. Not even refund my damn $10 dry cleaning. read more

We recently moved to Austin and were referred to the Jack Brown Cleaners on Slaughter by family members who also mentioned that some of the staff was rather unfriendly. I took in a couple of garments to give them a try. They lost the garments and, it took two pickup attempts and a few calls before staff admitted they were lost. Luckily, these items did not have any great monetary or sentimental value. I will avoid Jack Brown Cleaners and look for better customer service elsewhere. read more

Not happy at all. Prices are reasonable but not considered what you get in return. I dropped off numerous items for work. I was explicate in saying that they were for a work photoshoot and we would pay whatever we needed to to have them perfect. I picked the items up three days later and they were worse than when I dropped them off. I called to ask what happened and the lady suggested that I take an iron or steamer to them. Isn't that exactly what I paid to have done? They were unwilling to fix the problem or offer a refund. Do yourself a favor and find someone else. This particular location does not abide by the standards that Jack Brown preaches on the website. read more

Please, please avoid Jack Brown cleaners. If you have anything you care about take it somewhere else. They literally destroy clothes, then lie about how clothes got destroyed, pretend there's nothing wrong with it, and give you absolutely no way to escalate the problem, all communicated in a rude, hostile fashion. I took in a cream sweater and the moment I saw it knew that it was destroyed. It was grey. They'll tell you that they separate lights and darks, but clearly something happened to my sweater. The woman insisted it looked "old" and must therefore be an old sweater. It DID look old, but it was a Christmas present that I took to be cleaned in March. It was a 3 month old sweater - and I live in Austin - we barely have a winter, it had hardly been worn. Please don't make my mistake. Horrible experience and a ruined sweater. read more

This place is a sad attempt as a dry cleaner. Burnt the horse on my Ralph Lauren polo and said they could get out stains which they couldn't. Dropped off a duvet cover to be cleaned. When I went to pick it up I asked for the 25% off of bedding they advertised in the window. The woman working told me she did not know how to add discounts so I would have to come back if i wanted it when hopefully the manager would be working (it had already been there for 5 days). I told her I would take it anyways and after she ran my credit card I realized my duvet was still sopping wet. She would not give me a refund even though I told her I was not paying for this ( I had to call and cancel charge with my credit card) after she told me that I should have a man come in and take care of this for me read more

I judge a cleaners by how clean and fast they operate. I have always had a good experience at this store downtown. They are consistent and polite. If I drop off before 9am I get items back same day. I recommend using them. read more
