Got the lunch special personal pizza. It wasn't great, seemed like it was a frozen flat bread that they put their ingredients on and throw in the oven. Not what I expected from a place advertising wood fire pizza. I sat at the bar and the bartender might have just been having a bad day but she was not into it! The place was really cool, great looking bar, cool vibe. I drive from NWA to Joplin a couple of times a month and have been wanting to try it. What a nice little gem! My husband and I finally visited this place after a long time intending to. Located under ground in the Neosho square; there's not a lot of seating but such a cool atmosphere. We stayed with the pretzels with beer cheese and mustard - these were very good. Nice flavor on the cheese. Pretzels were soft and salty. Loved it! Hubby tried the wood grilled wings appetizer - he LOVED them. Nice char and smokiness in the best way possible. Hot honey and garlic parm flavor. Huge wings compared to other wing places. Super juicy and flavorful. Couldn't have been better. I chose the Maui Waui pizza. Got the individual size (all signature pizzas can be made individual) - which is a rectangle of 6 slices. Had an AMAZING flavor. Excellent crunch on the crust. I absolutely loved this pizza. Pineapples were sweet, honey was hot (but not overpowering). Great contrast. This came highly recommended by friends. Modern bougie lounge type atmosphere. We were not happy with our choices unfortunately. Candied bacon tasted like... ... ...bacon. Wood fired Mediterranean pizza came out on an obviously store bought flatbread with no homemade or seeming quality ingredients which was sad bc they have a beautiful wood fired oven. Above average bloody mary with bacon vodka that we really enjoyed. The cherry on top was the Little Debbie size brownie that was fine that came on a laughably large plate with a scoop of ice cream (which we had to pay extra for) and chocolate sauce dripped all over. I really wanted to like this place but we wouldn't return. Service was fine. Waited quite a while to get our drinks and be able to order but it was fine. They said they just changed their menu some so maybe things have changed since my friends were there. Ambience - 4.7* not our scene but clean and modern. Were recommended Sam's and it did not disappoint. In the basement of a building on the square in old downtown Neosho, Mo., small but great vibe. Staff was friendly and helpful with suggestions for 1st time guests. We ordered the pretzel with beer cheese appetizer EXCELLENT! Followed by garlic parm wings, Italian sub, Italian chicken salad and the cowboy burger. Sam's is a wood fire oven and tavern so most items are wood fired. Food had great flavor and portions, only complaints would be the fries and wings needed to be crispier. Will definitely be back to try the amazing looking pizzas. read more

Good not great, actual cellar bar. Fun blue lights in a dark environment and at least when we were there a mix of classic, hip hop, and hard rock playing. As is typical of many places today with shortages and delayed shipping they were out of a few things. We found a couple of pizzas and my wife ordered a root beer float. The pizza came out fast and everything was cooked. Something a lot of big chains can't seem to do anymore. No unmelted cheese or mushy crust here! Both our pizzas were attractive (see photos) and had fresh toppings that were far better than chain pizza quality. The thing that held me back from a five-star rating was the round pizza I ordered seemed to have a pre-made frozen crust. Maybe it was made in-house and stored later but regardless it was not very good. It simply was missing that crispy-edged bubbly artisan pizza dough I prefer. It was so uniform that it looked like the kind of crust you'd find on a mid-grade frozen pizza at the grocery store, albeit with really good ingredients on top. It spoiled what could otherwise have been a great pizza. My wife had the personal pizza, it had more of an irregular artisan style shape, it had crust that had some loft, light and airy and crisp around the edges like artisan pizza should be. I'm unclear why they use different kinds of dough depending on the size of the pizza but I think that should be clearly stated on the menu. You know, like some places list whether it's wood-fired, flash cooked, brick over, deep dish, hand tossed, etc. We had a friendly waiter who was fast and paid attention to our needs without being nosy or pushy and I really appreciated that. read more

The wood fired ravioli was decent but they were out of beef so we got stuck with all cheese (not my favorite). Plenty of sauce with our order. There was a good amount in the single order. We got a Hal and half pizza (meat lovers and Maui Wowi). The Maui Wowi was bar far, my favorite. It comes with Canadian bacon, pineapple, banana peppers and cheese, topped with Mike's Hot Honey. The crust is so-so. I was expecting a more fluffy/bubbly Artisan pizza crust but it was still ok. Overall, a great find we stumbled upon by accident. I would likely come again! read more

Historical building as the same business from the 1940s! They have converted the basement into a full wood fire style kitchen! I got the fired ravioli and Italian chicken salad! We stumbled upon this on our travels. Such a cool place. Ambiance-it is below ground and dark so at first I thought mmm bar... which it is... but SO much more. We sat at a booth. Each booth has a small tv for the sports folks. It was a very cool daytime vibe. Not a sad bar vibe. A vibrant chic bar restaurant feel!! Fun lighting furnishings etc. Waitress. Was excellent. And I use to be a waitress! Helpful with the menu because she was Knowledgeable about the menu. On time with checking in to see if we are good. Great drink recommendations. We went with pizza and it was good. I can't say great. Because I like and was expecting a more fluffy dough with the bubbly crust that has wood fire char on it. The best thing about Sam's is the ambiance. It is truly below ground with cool rock walls, low blue ascent lighting and a great bar. If you're looking for a cool place to drink, this is it. The music is LOUD so don't plan on romantic conversations, plan to yell. The loud music will consist of anything from pop 80's to heavy metal screaming to obscene rap with f*^# and p$:@&% words blaring at you. There are big screen TV's playing sports, plus at the few booths if you're lucky to get one there is also a TV so I imagine game days are pretty fun. The food is average. We've come here many times over the years and the pizza for which they are known seems to be declining. It didn't taste like the same recipe, basically tomato sauce. We got our food quickly, like super quick. So fast in fact that the cheese on my Italian sub wasn't even melted. Again, this is really a great bar with some food options to compliment your drinks so just manage your expectations and you'll have a great time. read more

We were heading from Iowa down to Arkansas and found this little gem. Wonderful atmosphere with friendly and efficient staff. Delaney was our server. We had a couple of cocktails with garlic cheese breadsticks and a build your own pie with hamburger, fajita steak and onions. Although very good, next time we would skip the fajita meat. Meh. Popped in for lunch. Took 45 minutes to get food. Had to take it in a to go container because I didn't have any longer to wait around. Bought a taco salad. Basically two tablespoons of meat. It was supposedly fajita steak. But it was thin, flat and rubbery. Like someone tried to rehydrate jerky. For $12. Husband got a hamburger plate. Frozen patty. Had lunch today since we were in town for the city wide sale. What a fun place. Love the ambience and a menu with options for everyone. I'm vegetarian and found several things that would work for me. We didn't get drinks but the food was great. Loved my spinach dip and had a really nice side salad also. My daughter had a Buffalo wrap and it was great too. Went to Sam's Cellar yesterday with a friend he is recovering from a injury and needs to walk with a cane. I went in and asked if we could come in one of the two side doors that are at street level. The other reviews seem to be pretty spot on. This is what we noticed in the other reviews that were all true: - Candied bacon is the star dish of this place - atmosphere is the best in SW MO. The food is fine but you come for the atmosphere - pizza is standard pizza, good but not anything particularly special - good music and good service Overall, we would definitely come back. The food wasn't anything unique, but it was fresh, fast, and it tasted good. We didn't have a ton of grease on our plates from the pizza, you could tell they used quality ingredients and they weren't stingy on the toppings. I WISH they would use homemade crust. If only they did, it would elevate this pizza so much. BUT, I can respect that they likely put out good consistent food every night because they keep it simple/easy. Because of that, and the unique and fun atmosphere, we would come back for sure. It's a little loud and many TVs for it being an intimate date spot, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. My husband and I absolutely love Sam's Cellar! The food is always amazing and their drinks are ! We would high recommend this place to almost anyone! Sadly they did change their menu up some however it made my husband and I try something new and although we miss their Meatball Pizza and Meatball subs a lot, we still love their food and service! Like that they are open late which is hard to find near me. But the food is just ok. It's typical bar food. The service can be bad. Usually I experienced really normal service one would expect. But when I took a date there who happened to be a black man, the server was downright rude and clearly just wanted us to finish our drinks and food and get out. I have not been back since. read more

Ok, I'm giving Sam's a 4 for a cute, comfortable atmosphere, and their candied bacon. It's a cool spot especially for this new to the area chick, but I'm sorry, I'm partial to the west coast because the food there is really second to none. We've been to Sam's a number of times, some with the kids, and some just the husband and I. They have a good supreme pizza, but there's nothing wild about their food. One time we tried the cheeseburger pizza and it was terrible but only because there's nacho cheese on it. I feel it is just such a cheap ingredient that takes away from a pizza that should be good. I also ordered the pretzel one time and on the menu it says $1.50 extra for cheese fondue.....So I ordered it. It was the nacho cheese. Again. $1.50 for one is such a ridiculous price for something that for one is not cheese fondue, but for two is nacho cheese. The candied bacon is amazing. The taco pizza is decent. They have good drink specials during happy hour. It's a cool looking spot and is a refreshing place considering Neosho (and too many other areas in Missouri) are so poorly taken care of, outdated and falling apart. Go to Sam's for nice locals, staff, candied bacon, drinks, and something updated to look at. Definitely the hippest place in Neosho, but that's also not hard to do. I know the owners are really nice people, I don't know them but I know people that do. My opinion isn't personal to anyone there, I'm just used to living in a much more happening area with a lot better selection and quality. read more
