Absolutely terrible customer service tonight. I've been coming to this market for years and have spent plenty of money here, but after tonight I seriously question why. Around 7 PM on May 14, 2026, the woman working the register couldn't even do the bare minimum of acknowledging a customer. After buying a beer from HER register, I asked twice for a bag because my hands were full and I was trying to safely hold my son's hand in the parking lot. She completely ignored me both times and went right back to staring at her phone like customers who spend money were an inconvenience. Not even a "sorry," not even a "we don't have bags." Just rude, lazy, dismissive behavior. Meanwhile the parking lot right outside the door is a mess with people whipping into parking spaces, and I'm standing there trying to carry everything while making sure my son doesn't get hit by a car. The lack of basic awareness or decency was unbelievable. If this is the kind of customer service this place now allows, longtime customers clearly don't matter anymore. Management should probably spend less time letting employees play on their phones and more time teaching basic respect and professionalism. read more

Loved coming here since i moved to Joshua Tree, it was convenient & right around the block. I remember my 1st rude experience here that I've decided not to go back. There's a woman here that's so rude & unwelcoming that I'll never go back. She is just very rude & gives really mean looks & is condescending when i was buying something she said some thing like "you know how much this costs right?" The cashier man has always been a pleasant experience here. Very polite & sweet. So now i drive the extra mile just to avoid her. read more

This store is close to home I have been using it on and off for 5 years. In the last 6 months or maybe longer the employees have become so rude, they change clerks there often and none of them even say hi, bye or Thank you ever. The worst part is they try to over charge so check your receipts IF THEY GIVE YOU ONE. In December I bought lotto tickets as I often do it was four quick picks, when I got home I looked at them and one ticket was dated for the prior draw. How does that happen unless purposely to deceive? That was no accident and I will never go to this place again. I think most of their customers are tourists so they must do this often so please beware. read more

No prices marked. I went in to buy a beer and was overcharged - I wanted to support the beer company, so I bought the $22 can....but will never go there again and I'm a local. There are plenty of other options like The Bottleshop, The Wine & Rock Shop, Desierto Alto to buy less expensive craft beers. read more

Best beer selection in Joshua Tree, by far! They've got lots of the major California craft breweries and even some of the smaller ones. I stocked up on beers from Pizza Port, one of my favorite breweries in the state. They had them in tallboy 6-packs, perfect for chugging after a hard lead out on the rocks! read more

I am staying at the nearby High Desert Motel for about 13 days, and since I arrived in Joshua Tree a few days ago, I have visited this store at least once or twice per day, at the very least, to procure essentials such as rolls of paper towels, one gallon jugs of spring water, containers of rice pudding and flan, frozen burritos, and other food items. Interestingly, this shop also sells fresh watermelons, a great rarity at this time of year, and, in fact, it is the only venue in Joshua Tree at which I have seen watermelons for sale -- and I have definitely NOT seen watermelons offered at any other store, nor even at the natural foods store, nor at the Saturday morning farmer's market! BTW, the prices at this shop for the types of items that I mentioned above are very fair and reasonable for the fact that this is a small grocery store in a small desert town. I should also mention that each of the staffers at the counter with whom I have dealt have always been friendly and helpful. I must note that a number of other reviewers have mentioned the store's offerings of bottled liquor and its great assortment of craft and artisan beers, but I simply cannot comment on any of those offerings, since I do not drink alcohol (it is not a moralistic thing; it just does not interest me...!). So, my review is probably one of the very few reviews here that do NOT rave about the liquor products and craft and artisan beer products sold here! You will just have to get over that fact! Finally, I should also mention that when I visit this store, I am often accompanied by colleagues and clients who are also temporarily visiting the town, and they have all told me that they are very impressed by the range of offerings in this shop! read more

I ordered a pizza and purchased some supplies for my camp. I loved this place! The pizza was very good with reasonable prices. The lady at the counter was so friendly-- she brought my pizza out to me as I was outside admiring the road runners. The apple from the store was so fresh! read more

I was visiting Joshua Tree National Park on November 5th and needed some supplies for camping. I stopped in to Sam's and purchased firewood, a cinnamon roll, and two packages of donuts. I woke up in the morning and made my coffee and was ready to eat my breakfast. Unfortunately I could not eat any of my breakfast, because both packages of donuts were too hard to eat - when I looked at the expiration date I saw that both were dated September 9th! (2 months ago). The cinnamon roll was too hard as well and it was dated August 25th! All three packages of pastries were more than 2 months beyond their shelf life!!! This was disgusting and disappointing as it meant that I had nothing to eat that morning and I was a 45 minute drive in to the national park with nothing to eat. I was very frustrated. I wonder and can only guess how many other products inside Sam's store are beyond their expiration dates. GROSS!!! And by the way the firewood was marginal as well. It didn't burn well and was way over-priced. Sam should stick to selling only beer (as long as you don't mind if it is 3 years old I suspect). read more

Don't be fooled by this non-descript market. You could easily drive past it, mistaking it for just another mini-mart. And when you first walk in, that's exactly what it feels like. However, go to the back to the beer cave. They have an amazing selection of beers. I suspect that the owner, Sam, is a beer connoisseur who tries to get his hands on all sorts of interesting beers. In fact, they have a beer cave in the back, which is essentially a walk-in fridge with all sorts of beers. Unfortunately, the beers aren't organized in any particular discernable order (didn't seem to be alphabetized or by location, but beers did seem to be clustered by brewery, just couldn't see any order to how the brewery groups were organized...). They also have beers outside the beer cave that aren't refrigerated. Beer lovers, be sure to peruse the shelves slowly, as I'm sure there are some gems hidden there. Can't speak for the rest of the market, but I fell in love with their craft beer selection. After our excellent dinner at Sam's Pizza next door, my bf and I decided to take a gander at the market to see if we could get some libations for the rest of the evening. They had a dizzying array of craft beers, even stuff you had to go into the refrigerator to see, since not everything was visible from the front. We froze our asses off looking at the selection. The only downside was trying to decided what to get; it was very hard to make a decision. We finally settled on a pack of HYVE honey ale but there was the wistful feeling that we were missing out on so much more. Oh well, next time. Good selection of staples and a lot of Indian spices, ingredients. Prices are pretty high so if you need a lot of stuff, you might want to make the short trek to a grocery store in Yucca Valley. Otherwise, this is the best option by far that I've seen in Joshua Tree. Lot of beer. This place could compete well in larger towns when it comes to beer selection. I'm done with this place. I only go here for beer on the weekend, and that's not going to happen anymore. His prices are ridiculously higher than other liquor stores in the area. $2-$5 more expensive. Yes, he has a decent selection of craft beers, but it's not good enough or convenient enough to pay that much more than other stores. Plus, the owner and his wife (whoever always works the register) are generally rude/ dismissive to me. He's always on the phone while I'm checking out, and she can't be bothered to say a word to me. There are other, better options in town. I recommend going to them instead. read more

Location, location, location... It's all about location! Sam's location is just west of the west entrance into JTNP on the north side of Hwy 62. If you're staying at JTNP and run out of firewood, ice, toothpaste, water, charcoal, soda, toilet paper, paper plates, paper towels, paper cups, beer, booze, bacon, butter or burger buns... this is the place. It's a virtual mini grocery store. And... if you're too lazy or tired to cook for yourself, you can always order something next door at Sam's Pizza & Subs or Sam's Indian Food. This place has the BEST selection of beers with amazing variety! You'd never expect them to, but oh man. And the owner always gets in new and rare beers and even wines. Some of my favorite beers I can't find anywhere around here since they're from Oregon, but this place always has them! Harry is great with helping you choose a beer or wine to suite your taste. The prices are what you'd expect from a liquor store, but I'm willing to pay since they always have the best and most unique selections. I'll keep coming back any time I want to try a new beer. Been going to this little store since we moved to Joshua Tree, not necessarily the greatest prices, but if you don't feel like driving all the way to stater's or walmart then this place is awesome. Can't count how many times I was missing just one ingredient for dinner and my go-to is always Sam's down the street (because they're more than just a liquor store which is great). Also we always joke around with the cashier, he's super funny and cool. Love these guys. read more

Best craft beer selection in the area, hands down. You won't save money buying beer here, but you'll be able to find rare beers that are well worth the price. If you're looking for the kind of beer that comes in quantities of 30, this is not your place. The staff are friendly and I like that they have a wish list right on the wall if there's something you wanted but couldn't find. read more

This is a great little store which is stocked full of things you would need if you couldn't get to a regular grocery store. You can find things from frozen foods, to toothpicks, to bread, to wine and beer, etc. AND they cash my checks for a really small fee (I think it's around $3.00). The younger (late 20's maybe?) guy is really nice and there are also two other girls who work there as well who are also friendly. If I'm not mistaken this is family owned and operated and they also run Sam's Indian Food & Pizza and their pizza is great! read more

Best corner corner/liquor store with groceries EVER. Best beer selection. They even have a beer cave. You walk in. There are even more beers. And you are in a refrigerator. Beer from all over the world and a bunch of microbreweries. Best selection of paletas. Plus lots of stuff you may need. Lovely, helpful staff. Could have a better coconut water selection.
