Had a great time at the Staters in Yucca Valley. The store brand Zesty Pickles are the real hidden gem in the store. They're really zesty and are a great snack or an interesting way to impress a date with a left field appetizer option. Good selection of foods overall although not a lot of organic options in produce section which is fine if you don't mind eating GMO bananas. A lot of the clientele seem to have a lot of tattoos which heightens the shopping experience, it's a creative crowd along with the usual senior citizens. The deli wasn't happening but I'm sure it has its moments. Reasonable prices. Would go back, mainly for the zesty pickles. read more

I came in with my kids, after a long day of work, tired, hungry.. I spoke with Gabriel V. Not only was he kind, and patient! But he was helpful as well .. he treated me and my children with the upmost respect, and I'll admit we had some frustrating questions lol!! Not once did he ever lose his professionalism, and he actually made me feel better than I felt before I walked in!! Customer service like Gabriel's is the reason I'll keep coming back!! I don't understand why I gave this SB location in yucca valley another try. Once again, I went to the fresh meat counter and asked for the same thing I wanted last time fresh ground beef, the 93 lane 7% fat $10 a pound once again I got the same person that helped me didn't say here you go thank you. Didn't say anything just literally threw my ground beef poorly wrapped up on the counter and walked away. Didn't even look at me. I don't even know how he knew. I was the one that ordered the ground beef because he never even said hello to me, absolute horror of a Customer Service person he needs to be working at a gas station or at a pot farm.. but after this I will not go back ever again there's other choices for me to shop and secondly, the ground beef that I ordered and I said the 97% to the gentleman and my label says 80% lean 20% fat. Unbelievable this guy that works behind that counter is needs to go. That's all there is it he needs to go.! now I'm cooking my ground beef and they unroll it and it's two different colors and I don't understand why ground beef fresh out of the meat counter is two different colors? Why is that? Can anybody explain that to me? I will attach a photo to prove it somebody's gonna get sick or somebody's gonna really get offended by this person's attitude and lack of Customer Service. This place is amazing! I was in the area and it was my go to grocery store. I stopped here every day for a week, and sometimes twice a day. They have everything you need - fruit, vegetables, grocery items, and more! Their food is fresh and delicious. The employees are friendly and helpful too. A bundle of firewood will cost you $6 (as of 2022). You can find drinking water for under $1. Parking: ample. This location is situated in a large plaza. People: fun for all. One of the guys smearing hand sanitizer all over the conveyor with plastic glove (not a rubber glove) and the other ones scewing around and not checking customers in. 8 people in line (waiting to PAY MONEY and get home to their families) Seemed to be closer to 10 blue shirt staffers congregating around but no one other than my cashier actually ringing people out. White shirt (assuming) Manager... She was too busy counting and closing cash drawers to ring. I'm not a grocery store manager but can't that wait till customers are out of the store? I made mention to that cashier about her bag boy having to run coffee to customer before me in the parking lot because he didn't hand that bag over to her. She chuckled and told me "Yeah, that's funny" I let her know it wasn't as funny as she thought. The management (regional) needs to have a look at how this location is run and address this management style (or lack of) 2 stars rather than 1 because the store was fairly clean. The last chance for food or grocery before heading down old woman road so stock up here with water food gas and whatever you might need while vacationing around Joshua tree / Landers and surrounding cities . there is only one mom/pop gas /grocery on the 17+ mile stretch of road so heed the warning . I have never left a review concerning a supermarket's employee so this will be my first. Day before Superbowl, I went to the older Staters in Yucca Valley looking for a few bags of frozen raw chicken wings. After a few minutes in the frozen aisles, I couldn't find any thinking they sold out. I asked this employee if she was aware of any around that I wasn't aware of. She left what she was doing and looked around and found me one bag and then went to the meat department and brought over someone who said they were out. She said there's no way the store could be out and went to the back and brought out another two bags for me. Needless to say that I was highly impressed by her professionalism and extreme courteous behavior !!! It's very rare to find a young employee going completely out of their way to help a customer. Staters employees must be having a really bad day I interacted with 2 employees and both had the worst attitude first the deli went to ask for some salads and I waited for the employee to finish with his customer and even when he had no customers I asked if someone was at the deli he said no it's just me I said ok I'll wait, he comes over and I already sensed the negative vibe I asked for some macaroni salad and some baked beans the whole time I'm feeling like I was asking for too much then I get my groceries walk over to register and my head nearly was cut off because the customer behind me didn't put the separator between our groceries and I'm trying to explain how is that my fault? By far the SLOWEST checkouts of all grocery stores in the Yucca Valley area with lines backed up into the grocery aisles. Some checkers just slowly, casually scanning grocery items and stopping to laugh and visit with their friends while customers wait in line. Mgmt should review their scans per minute and tell these checkers to pick up the pace. I hate to call out names but the older lady, Linda (I think) is the worst. Avoid this Stater Bros location and go on down the hwy to their other location or Vons. read more

I have updated my previous review because I normally love this store and the people who work here. I was disgusted by one unpleasant visit and it isnt fair to the store or the staff that do value their customers. They have a fantastic meat department and most of the employees at this location are top notch. It wouldn't be right to leave their location with one star due to one bad apple. I have been shopping at Stater Bros for over 5 years and never had anything bad to say but I am quite concerned about the lack of enforcement of the latest CA mask mandate. I was there 5 days ago and half of the customers inside weren't wearing masks, even though there are signs posted on the doors that masks are mandatory. When I asked the cashier why they weren't enforcing (staff members are all wearing masks), she said it has to come from upper management. I'm from out of town so I might expect more from a grocery store than a small town like Yucca Valley can provide, but I was pretty amazed that they don't have a bakery. Nope, none. They had a large table with goodies, but that was it. I asked an employee and she directed me to the other Stater Bros at the other end of town. This has been my go-to grocery store for several decades. Granted, we don't have a lot of options in the Morongo Basin, but in years past, I've found what I needed and enjoyed the pleasant conversations with employees who went beyond their scope to assist or simply be pleasant. Not so much anymore. My largest concern is over how certain employees, two young men in particular, consistently talk about wild parties or how a manager has a 'hard on' for a certain female employee, etc right in front of a customer during check out. This has happened on several occasions in the past year. Really?! In the age of "Me, too" and all the other issues affecting us globally, why is this kind of behavior ok? It's highly unprofessional. What if the person they were loudly discussing (as if the customer wasn't even standing there) was that customer's neighbor, daughter, granddaughter, friend? In fact, none of that matters. What matters is the disrespectful, highly inappropriate smack talk happening during working hours in front of customers. Shame on these young men for their lack of decency. It's almost worth the high price of gas to shop down the hill to not have to stand there and listen to their derogatory banter. read more

I just moved to the area and was very impressed by this grocery store, very clean & organized, produce and meats excellent quality! I found the employees very helpful and nice. Zach was my cashier he greeted me with a smile asked how my day was going and if I found everything I was looking for, I mentioned I forgot celery. Allowing shoppers without a mask! I just watched a customer shop without a mask then go through the checkout line and check out without a mask on. The cashier said absolutely nothing to the man neither did any of the other employees or cashiers that were near. I had to say something to a clerk so he would go address the shopper. The shopper told the clerk I can't wear a mask and that was the end of it if you can't wear a mask then you should not be allowed to shop. You left the shop or put all of our health at risk and that's a shame Stater brothers I will not be shopping at this market again. In Response to the store managers reply: Your reply is a bad excuse for not taking responsibility. If a person refuses to wear a mask inside a store where it is required they need to explain exactly why they can't do so. As I stated before I watched the shopper go unquestioned by employees as well as the cashier. Once asked by myself to confront the person the store clerk was told by the shopper "I can't wear a mask" in a not so friendly manner I might add. The clerk proceed to ask no further questions at all and just walked away. If your employees are too afraid to approach unmasked shoppers and conduct the proper protocol then they should not be working or need to be properly trained. I have been shopping here for 20 years. I've never had a problem. I have a vacation home nearby and drive in from LA. The meat department is great!! I'm always joking around with the butchers and sometimes the stock boys in the isles. They have items that I have a hard time finding in LA so I stock up on them. We shoppers are all trying to eat & save money if possible due to the rising prices of everything we buy. I can remember when Vons used to be a more expensive supermarket in Southern California including Yucca Valley. Vons prices are now more reasonable & their produce seems to last longer too. Walmart has recalls every week. Lots of their fresh foods go off before the sell by dates. NEVER will I buy fresh food from Walmart again unless they give me free large trash bags to throw the rotten food in. My #1 all around market is Now Vons with #2. Next is a toss up between Staters &. I can buy a can of dog food now at $1.65 '& go into Staters & the same item has gone up to $1.85 a can but my favorite is the very small trays that were $.89 but now is $1.09. Rude checkers at this location. The checker today never even spoke or looked at me. She turned around and talked to other staff. Came back and started check out the next person, my transaction as not even done, both myself and the person behind me had to tell her she wasn't done with me. She completed my transaction and handed me the receipt. Never saying a word. Catherine's has been rude before, but today takes the cake. Better staff and a better selection at the other staters in town. read more
