I went to pick up an order that I had placed over a week in advance. After waiting in line for about 30 minutes because it was a very busy day in the shop, once I got to the counter, the individual assisting me could not find the order. He was running from room to room back-and-forth, trying to find it. He went back into the butcher room and I could see them cutting the order. But what he came out with was not what I ordered. But since the package was labeled appropriately, he tried to convince me that it was what I ordered. I had ordered two one a half inch thick ribeyes for grilling on Labor Day. What I received were two thick New York strip steaks. New York strip steaks and ribeyes are completely different shape. As you will see in the photos that I am placing with this review, the difference between a New York strip and a ribeye and what I received are clearly evident. And you can see that what I received was definitely a New York strip. I ordered, waited for, and paid for extra thick ribeye steaks, and went home with New York strip steaks. I didn't feel like arguing or making a big production in the store so I just kept my mouth shut and left. I will definitely reconsider ever going to this butcher shop in the future. I will likely go to other butcher shops. I was very disappointed, especially because I had been here numerous times in the past and I've always been very happy with what I received. I know it was very busy in the store, but I just feel like I was bamboozled. It's very unfortunate that someone in a butcher shop was unable to realize the error even after I mentioned it and proceeded to convince me that I was getting what I ordered. I enjoy just wandering this place. You will always find something new and exciting. We ordered catfish this last time for a fish fry at home and these fillets were HUGE. The butchers are nice and they are very knowledgeable about everything in the store. They also wrap everything well so nothing leaks on the way home. If you ever make your way to Denver and want to take a short trip to the Aurora area, Sam's is a great place to check out. They have a huge selection of local meat and wild game. We visit every time we are in the Denver area. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the cuts of meat are amazing. We have been a couple of times, but the last time we went we probably left with about $300 worth of wild game. There is every cut of bison available including ribeye which is probably the most amazing cut of steak ever. There are also some other specialty items like boar bacon and fresh free range chicken. The chicken was probably the freshest I've ever tasted, and boar bacon has a super clean taste, compared to regular commercial bacon. We even found some very tasty bison bacon, which I didn't think would be as good as it was. Duck wings, elk, ostrich -- you name it. Take a trip to Sam's, freeze whatever you buy overnight, and take it home with you. It's totally worth it to bring stuff home from this place. Sometimes the lines are long, but they have a nice number pull system to keep your place in line, while you look at their large selection of sauces, and other unique condiments. There is even a section of pre-frozen food in every cut you can think of. We definitely load up on the bison and venison while we're there. They even have elk, and kangaroo! It's so nice and clean, but the important part is that the meat is out of this world quality. You'll have meat dreams in there. It'll make a liberal vegan who works for PETA, a carnivore. The quality of there steaks are so prime they could be considered wagyu. They also have the best Wild Game section I've seen with the most offerings and different game. Be adventurous! I started by making an inquiry through their website contact form asking about what kind of meat they would recommend for beef jerky. Debra Sam contacted me with the recommended cut of meat, and also how to contact them to place an order for pickup. Yes, you can phone your order in and pick it up or you can go in and order on the premises. If you go in, you'll need to take a number, so be sure you do that unless you're the only one there. I phoned in my order. Shannon took my order. She was very helpful, personable and professional. I asked it they'd slice it for me, and they did, free of charge, and exactly the way I wanted it. A couple hours later I went to pick it up. None other than Cris P. Bacon helped me. Yes, that's really his name. He was born to be in the meat business. Anyway, he was super cool and retrieved my order right away. Great guy. Great name. I'm terrible with names, but his is one I can easily remember. It's an incredibly well run business. It's easily one of the best meat markets I've ever visited. It's clean, there's a huge variety of meats, including exotics, and just about anything else you could imagine that would go along with cooking meat, including wood chips and such for barbecuing.Oh yah, they also have a very nice selection of fish. Came here the day before Christmas and it was EXTREMELY busy, line of 30+ people. While the line was long, it moved quickly. Very Covid compliant, line outside with spacing, masks required and limited people allowed inside at a time. Once we got inside, we grabbed a number and looked around while waiting to be called. The place is filled with sauces, rubs, condiments and all things roasting & grilling, including peach paper for sale. They also offer very exotic meats. When our number was called we were kindly helped and picked up some short ribs, traditional ribs & a few feet of peach paper to use on the grill. Price point is high but, so are the cuts of meats. Thats cool, except that upon asking for clarification about the nature of the line, was "treated" to passive aggressive and dismissive response from guy at door, as well as other customers in the line who, on subsequently seeing them in the store, were revealed themselves to have personal agendas as they were there just to shop. Not rocket science to set up a Turkey pickup-only line, so on hearing the crap I received, I had no problem pointing out how stupid it all was. That then motivated others to pipe in, including a herd of Karen's (and their dimwitted Sasquatch chaperone), to offer their own special brand of stupid. Because this place was unable to figure out how to avoid this idiotic situation in the first place, who knows what else they are stupid about; though perhaps, by forcing people only there to pick up their previously-ordered turkey to spend ten times as much time there as they should need to, their strategy is to increase the chance those folks will fill up a basket of misc overpriced items, while they are forced to wait.
