They should let you know they are going to charge you more when buying a gift card with your credit card. They pass along the charge that they incur from the credit card company to the customer. I was unaware of this. The gentleman that took my gift card order did not inform me. Oliver's let people know any additional charges. read more

I always love getting fresh meat and this place has everything you're looking for at a great price. It's small so be prepared for that. The staff is extremely friendly and was helpful to answer my questions, which I had a lot of. I've never purchased ribs before and I wanted to make some for my cabin weekend. I think it's important for everyone to know, the ribs DO NOT contain the membranes that should be removed prior to cooking. I learned that the hard way when I spent 30 minutes trying to remove something that wasn't there. Haha we live and we learn. read more

Truly a gem within the Cap Hill Neighborhood. I come here often for small portions of prosciutto and their delicious garlic stuffed olives which make for a wonderful appetizer when serving guests. They're sushi grade tuna is fantastic raw and cooked and makes for a fresh and tasty tuna tartare. Their salmon and scallops are to die for! The employees are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Awesome locally owned butcher shop. Great selection of beef and pork, more limited selection of fish but the fish is super fresh. Homemade sausages are all great and there's a large selection. Prices aren't cheap, but with meat you get what you pay for, right? Our go-tos are the choice NY strips , which are always tasty and tender, and the salmon filets. A nice and less expensive option are the smoked pork chops. Beef is also available in the prime grade but that's a bit out of our price range and we've been happy with the choice cuts. read more

The joys of meat market in the city are realized at Oliver's Meats in Denver. Serving the Denver since 1923, this business is astounding. I was very pleased with their service. And the conversation with the owners. I needed succulent meats for a party and Oliver's came through. And, without even knowing it, they slipped me two buffalo steaks for free because I wanted buffalo meat cut into strips to make fajitas but the meat was frozen and unable to be sliced into strips. That's great customer service! I will forever be a customer at Oliver's Meat & Seafood Market. I am a succulent meat loving person and no better place can be my utopia. The only drawback is that I want game meats, like deer, and that can't be sold in stores. Bummer. Go there. You'll be gladder than glad that you did! read more

They de-bone the beef short ribs for me and wrap up the bones so I can use them for stock. And those short ribs have turned into the most delicious beef stew on several occasions. I've had very mixed experiences at this place, depending on who is working. The first time I went there, I had a very good piece of steak and they did exactly what I asked. But going in today, the guy started arguing with me for asking him for a dry-aged piece of steak. I told him I did not want what was sitting and wanted a more fresh piece of steak, last time one of the employees had said they have a wide variety and will get what the customer needs. This guy however, his attitude toward me was as if he was annoyed by me being at the business and thought he was going to force me to buy whatever piece of steak he had laying around. Furthermore, it seems that he was much nicer to white customers. I am sorry, but the world is changing and you can't just expect to treat people different because of their background. I saw his attitude and service very different when he was talking to me and embarrassed me for shopping here. I would rather pay a few dollars more where I feel more valued as a customer and a person. Remember, you are here because of customers and you may not get many customers of color; the few you do get, you should treat with respect. It's the law. read more

Went for fish and got some tuna to grill...selection was just ok, was hoping for halibut or sea bass...I get the feeling they don't carry a full line of all types of fish...but then again, they're a meat butcher shop. However, it's nice they have basic fish selections. It was fresh and tasted delicious. They also have a bunch of homemade soups, salads, etc ready to takeout that are above average...very tasty. This is my favorite butcher. I drive 60 miles to get here. If your looking for something you can't find at your local grocer for sure check here. I have purchased Veal shank, duck leg quarters, rendered duck fat and beef tenderloin, all of which were great cuts. If your looking for whole pigs they have that too. There homemade soups are soul warming and delicious. I'm sure if you had something specific that they didn't have, they would special order it for you. I totally forgot to give kudos to Oliver's for a visit a few months ago. My wife and I have been on a bone marrow binge over the last few months. Finding good quality bones at a fair price can be a task. I called and it appears it is something they carry regularly but you may have to ask for. Oliver's was one of the more reasonably priced options among the purveyors I called. They cut the bones to your preference and specs, whether into coins or lengthwise. Took them home and prepared them in the simplest of ways - if the quality was poor, it would have been very apparent. Hot oven, light paste of coarse sea salt and garlic, cracked pepper, oregano and EVOO, cooked for about 15 minutes. Had the marrow with a nice, crusty baguette and wow it was delicious. Look forward to trying their steaks and sausages. Side street parking is a little tough on a busy thoroughfare. There is a small parking lot for the adjacent church that can be used but I believe there is a time restriction (based on church services). read more
