Posey after eating ribs and brisket!
Julio C.

Awesome barbecue great place great workers fresh and tasty I had the beef brisket plate with coleslaw and potato salad, my wife had pull pork sandwich lg and Mac and cheese and coleslaw also got a second plate Ribs!!! Absolutely delicious their sauce is sweet and tangy. Here's what you do with rib plate and beef brisket, eat the ribs for dinner save the brisket for breakfast and add biscuits and have brisquit! If you are in Fayette or even near it stop by! By the way my daughter Posey loves them too! Pic of Posey included

Ribs and smoked wings.

I've been eating BBQ for over a half century. This place is easily in my top 3 of all time. The sauce seems to be a mustard/vinegar base, but is still sweet. Only place I eat when I'm in the area.

The people of Fayette have spoken and Sam's is the favorite BBQ spot in town at least according to the few locals I asked. Several of the aforementioned locals specifically praised the wings and potato salad. Based on a few glowing recommendations a friend and I have them a shot. We each had the smoked wing plate and we each had the potato salad. For $9.00 you get 8 jumbo smoked wings and two sides. The wings had great flavor. My only recommendation would be to maybe offer a sauce vs packet Texas Pete and the 2 house Bbq sauces. They are famous for smoked chicken so a white sauce would have been nice. Fortunately, I really like Texas Pete and it was a nice accent to the smokey flavor coupled with the house made ranch for dipping. Ribs, wings and smoked chicken are among what appeared to be the most popular items. Sides are basic BBQ joint options with good potato salad (no sweet pickle relish in the loaded potato salad). I went against my norm and didn't order the onion rings. That was my mistake, which I won't make again when, not if, I go back. I saw them on a few other people's plates and they appeared to be hand battered real deal! The house sauce is a mustard/ vinegar base with a sweet finish. They had a second sauce with a traditionally deep red hue that was smokey and sweet. I personally do not care for sweet BBQ sauce. My buddy really liked the gold colored vinegar / mustard based sauce. The people were friendly and the parking lot was full around 11:45. The interior was clean and well maintained. We actually got the last available table at the time, which didn't deter people from ordering and cozying up to smaller parties not occupying their entire space. Shining example good small town mom and pop BBQ operation. They finished 2nd overall in AL.com poll of Tuscaloosa readers for best ribs in 2014. I will be back and if for whatever reason you find yourself in Fayette, Alabama I would absolutely recommend giving this little place a shot!

Pulled pork is very good and so are the ribs. They make their own sauce. Family owned and operated. Closed on Sunday and Monday.

You search for the kind of places that make you question if they're even open or not. If they are, you're in for a treat. Such a place residues in the small city of Fayette, Alabama (pop. less than 5,000/less than an hour above University of Alabama). Here the paper towel rolls are on the table and the tablecloths are plain and stain resistant. Cups and plates are styrofoam, utensils are plastic. And the food, well you already know after reading thus far. Now I'll go ahead and mention that they do serve a few non-bbq related items; burgers, ham sandwiches, pork chops, and a variety of pies (by the slice). To these, I cannot speak. My order was that of a marathon runner just crossing the finish line. Large pork sandwich plate with okra, green beans, mac n cheese, and sweet tea to wash it all down. I was there with family, but their words and laughs soon faded as I took bite after delicious bite from my plate. I can't prove it, but I am sure there was a period of food coma blindness where my eyes were closed so I could give full attention to the savory meat with its molasses and brown sugar kissed sauce coming across my palette like a holiday gift to my tastebuds. Needless to say I refilled my cup a few times (including for the road) and that proved to be all the dessert I required. I am not in this area often, but I promise that any time I am Lisa's will be a required stop.

Well folks! I think we have tried almost all of the surrounding eateries within the Hamilton…read moreAlabama area. As I have mentioned before, there are a limited amount of sit down restaurants in this vicinity. As a dedicated "Yelper", all of the reviews on multiple platforms have been reviewed and re-evaluated for possible exciting new discoveries. Interviewing and requesting feedback from the locals is a consistent way of finding these treasures as well. We may have resigned ourselves to the possibility that we may never find all of the criteria that make for a successful dining experience here in Guin, Alabama. Delicious fresh food; attentive, timely service; and a comfortable dining atmosphere. Everything else is just extra! Hambone's BBQ has none of those things. The front entrance has no signage and you can't be 100% sure you are here. The inside reminds me of going to the American Legion with Uncle Bob when I was a kid. The mismatch furniture and odd decor is illuminated by an early 70's fluorescent lighting and I can't see any design theme at all. I get the sense we decorated from someone's yard sale. The food was nothing to write home about. I ordered the #78. This was a thick sliced baked potato that has been (supposedly) deep fried, sprinkled with shredded cheese, cubed brisket pieces added with a tiny bit of sour cream, bacon, and a whole lot of pickled Jalapeños (Like covered with Jalapeños). Lisa and Mom had the same thing but with BBQ pulled pork and Aunt K. went with the #78 with chicken. Uncle ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the boys had the ribs, and catfish. I did like the ribs! Very tender and tasty when you slather it with sauce. But, unfortunately, nothing else seemed to work. I don't know what to say about the #78 except, KUDOS for trying, I guess. I'm sorry but, none of us enjoyed it. Reports from the family came in as the following: The chicken was dry and needed seasoning, the catfish was chewy on the edges, dry towards the center, with a distinct fishy taste, and definitely needed some additional seasoning. Uncle was not impressed. The smoked meat, itself, was well prepared (as average smoked BBQ goes). Mom was disappointed. The service was fine. There were 5-6 teenagers serving the few customers in on a Saturday evening and checked on us frequently. They were very polite and our food came out fairly quickly. I will say, as a side note, the drive through was pretty steady. We were a bit surprised to be greeted by the owner (Greg) sporting his tattered overalls and ball cap. He sat and joined us for a bit of conversation during our meal. If you decide to visit this place on your way through, I would recommend hitting the drive through and definitely choose the ribs, and ask for extra sauce. Sorry Greg. Billy P.
