Love the fried fish here, light breading, low oil, and just enough crisp outside. Fish is flaky and great paired with their orange sauce. What is this sauce? I also got a bonus piece of fish- thank you!! I liked the fries- fresh and nice flavor with a slight kick, but I would skip the hushpuppies- they were old and over cooked. OK, sorry for the three star review. This used to be a favorite. We would order the fried fish or the fried chicken and French fries. We loved it. Fries were nice & crispy, hush puppies were good, iced tea was huge! Service was really down home & friendly. Ambiance was fine. On our second trip back, we ordered completely different dishes. I tried the crab cakes. Let me preface my opinion by saying that I grew up near Maryland where they have the best crab cakes ever! I did not enjoy the crab cakes here. I ate one and left the other one on the plate. Too much breading, too much filler, too much grease. My dinner companion had the gyro sub. Y'all, just don't order a gyro at a seafood restaurant. I order the 5 piece fish and two sides meal everytime and it never disappoints ‼‼ this is the best and most affordable fish meal in town and the quality is amazing! The atmosphere was nice and the servers were very nice! Even though my server had multiple tables she still came around and asked about refills and if we needed anything multiple times, the other server was injured and limping but was still helping by bringing menus and other things we may have needed! The food is fine: well-cooked, deep-fried oysters, perfectly cooked fried okra. However, I did not want fried okra. I asked for french fries. I asked for extra Sam's sauce because I was expecting french fries. As my order was a "to-go" order, I did not catch the error until I got home and opened my box. Unfortunately, it had already been a long time since breakfast, and I was so hungry I didn't dare wait longer to eat, (and if I had gone back to get the french fries replaced, I would have had cold fried oysters) so I was stuck with okra. :-( read more

Sam's Southern eatery in Norman Oklahoma is a full-service seafood restaurant. Its menu is packed full of Poboys, fried shrimp, fried fish and chicken wings. The whole restaurant is casual yet vibrant. We happen to go on a slow night, but it's large enough to accommodate a rather large crowd. Two things make this restaurant stand out. One - you can actually get something other than french fries with your meal. Coleslaw, potato salad, red beans and rice, mac & cheese represent true southern side dishes. The most memorable aspect of my visit was the whole fried catfish. I got three of them and two sides for under $20. The world is full of fried catfish but very few restaurants sell them whole and Sam's does it well. they're perfectly fried, crispy and crunchy on the outside and moist flesh inside without a fishy taste. I initially wanted to give this place two stars, but I can't think of anything this business has to offer that would credit it that extra star. The food of this place was an absolute mess: The hush puppies are somehow the worst hush puppies I've ever had, since they were hard, stale, and dry -- still, it tasted like a hush puppy, so I guess that's something. The chicken tenders, which I've read another reviewer saying "it's the best chicken tenders I've ever had..." you need to try some more chicken tenders, since it tasted straight out of a school cafeteria-- no crisp or flavor. Shrimp was the ultimate disappointment -- not only are they incredibly small for the price, but they had no flavor. The fries were thick-cut and definitely not the good kind, since they were all greasy and potatoey with no crisp. I guess I'll give the catfish an assessment: Flavor is alright and relatively large portions, but it's nothing impressive. What sort of tilted me over the edge -- despite the nice atmosphere/interior, really embracing the seafood vibe -- was the poor service. No, my waitress was not rude, but I had to clarify my order three separate times, and know and behold, I got the wrong order either way. To add to that, she left our sides, but I decided it wasn't even worth it at that point once I got home. They were not very busy so service was great from the young man who took care of us. The catfish and shrimp was excellent as was the red beans and rice as well as the coleslaw. They are extremely generous with the portions of food. Be careful if you come here on a diet. The workout which will come afterwards will be well worth the sweat. You definitely get your money's worth. The food is served promptly. Hardly any waiting, and everything is hot and fresh. The customer service is beyond amazing. When you walk in the door you are immediately greeted by the staff (to include the manager, Kenya). It's not everyday that you have a manager greeting you as you walk in the door. Why parsley you cannot spruce up a turd . Since the mac and cheese was not edible we asked for an order of french fries and you can hear the cook arguing with the server . Someone picked Sam's while we were in town for my daughter's softball tournament. I immediately became unhappy and grumpy when I saw the menu and the restaurant. Why are we eating at this place? This looks terrible!!! Wow was I wrong. I ordered chicken strips, which came with fries and hush puppies. I am not exaggerating when I say it was the best fried chicken strips, the best fries, and the best hush puppies I've had in my entire life!! The food was DELICIOUS and cooked to perfection! On top of that, the service was AMAZING! The restaurant owner (or maybe manager) came to personally check on us TWICE! The server was handling a table of 25-30 of us and he didn't miss a beat! I've been coming to eat here for the past few years and always loved the food. The staff is always friendly too. The fried catfish filets are great. The hushpuppies are so good, I only eat hushpuppies from here no where else. The drinks are huge, I always take mine to go. The french fries are crispy and well cooked as well. My mom and I ate there yesterday 5/23/24. Her and I both have food poisoning. I have never felt so bad in my life.

I do not recommend. Fish and shrimp cooked well but everything was so bland as though they forgot salt. Hush puppies were dark and oily and had obviously been re-fried. Mac and cheese was honestly gross; the noodles were mushy, the cheese was watery, and it was completely bland and salt-less. The crab cakes were the best but I still couldn't give those more than a 6/10. I was really disappointed because I was looking forward for some good fried catfish and that's just not what you get. The one thing that I did like though, was the price. I don't know if it was because we ordered carry out, but all they have right now is carry out so it's hard to believe they are letting every meal go out like that. The least they could have done was supply extra salt packets and lemon wedges. Overall, I say just go somewhere else. read more

We ate an early lunch on a Sunday. There weren't very many people, I hope they are successful and that they start getting more foot traffic. The food was well seasoned. And that's an understatement. I don't know how else to say it had THE BEST SEASONING I have ever tasted. Really, they need to give courses. I will order the fried green tomatoes every time. Nothing was overly breaded. All of our fried food had a great breading/seasoning/food ratio. They offered a sauce that had the spicy mayo thing going, which is always a win in my book. The servings are also HUGE--be forewarned.
