A legitimate, yet intimate, small-to-medium sized live music and event venue such as this gorgeously renovated old tire garage which just had its formal opening for Music Prize Live on June 20th, 2019! I myself, was just back from the beautiful beaches of Alabama, sunburned, slightly tired, and I still had an absolute hoot in this here place. My friends and I jammed to visiting Nashville bands, Airpark, and *repeat repeat. It was an enjoyable time to be certain. I am looking very much forward to the future events, and the endless possibilities of this place in the near and far future. I am especially looking forward to the 2019 Louisiana Prize (Film, Food, and of course Music!!) Fest this Fall, which will undoubtedly use this space well, in addition to other locations. Shreveport is growing again, culturally, and very much so in the right direction. This garage shows this growth. And on some nights soon, you'll be able to hear that growth as well!!

10/2/18. It's just a wide open space in the middle of an urban center. A place where a commercial…read morebuilding once stood, but does so no longer, and hasn't for quite some time. This spot has been cleared, cleaned, and creatively deconstructed to be exactly what it is. I attended a documentary screening here once, for, Who Is Bozo Texino? The film was about old school locomotive graffiti done in the early and mid 20th Century by boxcar stowaways and rail-yard workers. The movie was projected on one of the brick side walls here. Very cool. This space was utilized during the actual filming of 2006's Factory Girl starring Sienna Miller, and Guy Pearce, as Andy Warhol. Hayden Christensen, Jimmy Fallon, and Jack Huston also starred. Right next door is the site of the former 516 Soundstage (Itself, a former Woolworth's-"And stay outta the Woolworth's!!") where a plethora of bands played in the early aughts (2000's). Shreveport skate band, I Wrestled A Bear Once, went from obscure local band, to an international sensation in this very neighboring building. Other bands that passed through those doors: Statues Cry Bleeding, The Infamous Jaguar Shark, Thursday, and Hatebreed. Also located within short walking distance from here is the statue (speaking of statues, right?) of legendary local blues man, Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter (see my Yelp review! : ) ) So, as you can see, yes, this is just a space, but it has vast potential and tons of history whereas most passer-bys will just see nothing.

He continued to return to here as the place where he got his first big break. Not only did he return numerous times between 1956 and his death in 1977, but he hired Shreveport native James Burton to be an integral part of his  band and stage show. Interesting factoid... the phrase "Elvis has left the building" was first uttered here in Shreveport at the Hirsch Coliseum in 1956. This life-sized statue is in front of the memorial auditorium on, of course, Elvis Presley Way. The one, the only, Elvis Presley. The caption at the bottom records his introduction, "Ladies and gentlemen, you've never heard of this young man before, but one day you'll be able to tell your children and grandchildren that you heard musical history made tonight."
