But table seating was available. After taking a couple minutes to decide. I chose the shrimp poboy. It was delivered at 12:05, with the tails on. Before I could eat, I had to pull them off. It was fantastic. So I guess I'll be okay. By 12:20 I was cashing out lunch for one $20. They issued a 20% discount for my military id.

When in Shreveport on a Monday, your dining options are...limited (unless you fancy a casino…read moredinner, which we did not). So, we ended up here--the only place open that wasn't serving up blackjack with a side of fries. First up: water. Now, if you've never had Louisiana tap water, let me tell you--it tastes like someone steeped a bag of potting soil in it for 12 hours. I was about to blame this restaurant until a little Google dive informed me that most of Louisiana water just tastes like this due to geosmin and MIB (algae bloom byproducts, apparently). Fun fact that nobody asked for, but here we are. Anyway, we pivoted HARD to cocktails. I ordered a Belvedere martini, which was well-made by Dustin but oddly expensive considering this wasn't exactly a swanky downtown hotspot. For dinner: Hubbs went for shrimp fettuccine, and while it was fine, it didn't exactly make us want to write home about it. I, on the other hand, ordered Natchitoches meat pies, thinking they'd be the real deal imported from the famous place there. Oh, how naive I was. Instead, they were sad little impostors, baked instead of fried, and just...meh. Final bill: almost $100 for four drinks and two average entrées. If we're dropping that kinda cash, I'd prefer a meal that didn't require an emergency cocktail switch just to recover from the water.

This spot has been cleared, cleaned, and creatively deconstructed to be exactly what it is. I attended a documentary screening here once, for, Who Is Bozo Texino? The film was about old school locomotive graffiti done in the early and mid 20th Century by boxcar stowaways and rail-yard workers. The movie was projected on one of the brick side walls here. Very cool. This space was utilized during the actual filming of 2006's Factory Girl starring Sienna Miller, and Guy Pearce, as Andy Warhol. Hayden Christensen, Jimmy Fallon, and Jack Huston also starred. Right next door is the site of the former 516 Soundstage (Itself, a former Woolworth's-"And stay outta the Woolworth's!!") where a plethora of bands played in the early aughts (2000's). Shreveport skate band, I Wrestled A Bear Once, went from obscure local band, to an international sensation in this very neighboring building. Other bands that passed through those doors: Statues Cry Bleeding, The Infamous Jaguar Shark, Thursday, and Hatebreed. Also located within short walking distance from here is the statue (speaking of statues, right?) of legendary local blues man, Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter (see my Yelp review! : ) ) So, as you can see, yes, this is just a space, but it has vast potential and tons of history whereas most passer-bys will just see nothing.

During the daylight hours the homeless are prevalent. I've noticed that all I see at an event are well lit parking lots and seas of people. I've never felt intimidated going to a concert. During the day is fun too. Walk down Elvis Presley ln and see the statues. The architecture. The surrounding buildings. Why 2 stars? I haven't been able to find a time when the box office is open (especially since Covid) to get tickets and avoid ticket masters fee hike. The chairs are super close together and don't allow any leg room. The pitch/ angle of the seats can allow folks in front of you to block your view. If the crowd decides to stand short folks like me are out of luck. I'll keep going . Book isle seats. And enjoy the show.

He continued to return to here as the place where he got his first big break. Not only did he return numerous times between 1956 and his death in 1977, but he hired Shreveport native James Burton to be an integral part of his  band and stage show. Interesting factoid... the phrase "Elvis has left the building" was first uttered here in Shreveport at the Hirsch Coliseum in 1956. This life-sized statue is in front of the memorial auditorium on, of course, Elvis Presley Way. The one, the only, Elvis Presley. The caption at the bottom records his introduction, "Ladies and gentlemen, you've never heard of this young man before, but one day you'll be able to tell your children and grandchildren that you heard musical history made tonight."
