My husband and I have gone through to the Sam Adams Brewery Tour half a dozen times. We'd do every time he visited me in Boston. And this time, we took our kids. They let kids walk through the tour -- which is great as our kids are not tiny misbehaving toddlers but near pre-teens who appreciate a knowledgeable tour guide. 10-year old even asked a good question. Learned a lot of interesting stuff about hops, grain, yeast, brew, artificial flavorings, Sam Adams history while walking their facilities and drinking beer. Tour guide has a sense of humor. Very unique tour and a great area to simply show up and have some drinks! We came to the brewery early for our Cheese and Beer experience. We sat on the outdoor patio with a beer (both of us got a beer that isn't sold in our area at home). When the weather is nice, they have a lot of outdoor seating to sit and relax. They carry a lot of the Sam Adams catalog of beers, so when you're ordering, step aside if you're struggling to decide when looking at the menu board! Our beer and cheese tour was awesome! Jacob was very informative and also very funny too. The experience we picked was a bit smaller and more focused than the walking tour through the brewery. We were happy with this one because we got to try some beers that are not widely released to the public with a pairing of great cheeses too. Now this is the real deal! What a great way to celebrate a successful Boston Marathon finish and Abbott Marathon Majors 6 Star achievement over multiple Sam Adams brews with friends and family! We arrived here on Tuesday after marathon Monday on weary legs to enjoy a brewery tour, some eats, and delicious beer. Sat in the outside beer garden during a sunny warm afternoon. Nice staff and there is a gift shop here too. Plenty of their craft beers and special brews to choose from. Did a few beer flights, drank more than a few pints, and called an Uber to get back to the hotel later on, so worth it. A must visit when in Boston, especially if you enjoy good beer. read more

Great well-maintained space with lots of interior seating options including seated-height tables, counter-height tables and bar seating. There are also some seating options outside in the front of the brewery. There are also a few food options, but only available on certain days as the kitchen was NOT open on the day I visited. The store is big with lots of items you'd expect including clothing, glasses and mugs and other souvenir-like items. There is also a wide variety of take-home beers. Parking lot with adequate spaces on a weekday evening...not sure how crowded it gets during peak weekend hours. read more

I'll be honest I don't know if they even serve food here.... What they do have is good beer. Enjoyed a flight before our tour. The tour was informative and fun. Our tour guide (I believe Eric) was funny and charming. Well worth learning the history of this brewery. Definitely a must do when visiting Boston. Don't confuse this location with the one along the Freedom Trail. PS the one on the Freedom Trail is a great stop to get fueled up. There they serve food. read more

I came for the "Beyond the brewhouse" tour which is the standard tour but it includes beer samples at each stop of the tour. It was a cool experience, we learned a lot of history about how Sam Adams started and eventually became a brewery. This brewery (the original location) isn't a big factory like most major beer companies so it's not a big tour where you'll be walking around a lot, it's actually much like a tour at any other local craft beer brewery. We went through three different locations in the brewery on the tour, and it's worth visiting for any beer lover to check out. read more

We had a tour and Abby was great!, she was training a new girl to do the tours who wasn't good at all. We know she was still learning but she came off sarcastic and uninterested. She was trying to be funny I guess but there was a picture on the wall of the owner and she made a snide comment about him saying that he just is a really old guy but he is alive. He looked our age so didn't appreciate that. The main thing is she doesn't seem like she would be good at the job. read more

I was in Boston and I wanted to check out the original brewery for Sam Adams. I ordered a flight since there was a wide variety of beers on tap to choose from. All of beers that I tried tasted very good. The service is very quick and efficient. The brewery is a little bit outside the main city area of Boston. In my opinion, it was not worth the time to make the trip out to the Jamaica Plain location. Instead, try one of the Sam Adam taproom locations in the city! Sam Adams JP brewery provides a wonderful atmosphere to gather with family or friends for a afternoon of brews. They do a number of live events throughout the week including trivia, bingo and live music on Sundays. With the weather still being great we were able to sit outside on the patio. Always a strong mix of craft beers including seasonals. The staff are great and service is normally really efficient. They also have a great gift shop and some solid food options. Would recommend for anyone visiting or who lives in town. I greatly prefer JP to their downtown location. read more

Did the tourist thing and visited here. Last time I was here was nearly 20 years ago (I is old)... I wanted to come back because I remember having such a great time. I finally got to do so. This time with my family to enjoy the tour and beer. What a great place. The staff were awesome. In particular the gentleman that helped us had darker long hair, glasses, and was about 5'7" ish... he was behind the counter when I bought souvenirs and then was also the same person that did our tour. He was so friendly, that I found myself even buying the darn neon sign from the place. It's amazing what atmosphere and beer can do to ya. It's all good. It hangs in my garage with pride. Anyway, this visit was awesome. Between the story of the brewery, how they got to where they are, the jovial tasting, and great atmosphere, this is THE place to visit if you're in the area. I just hope I don't take such a long time to come back! It was on my list to visit and decided to do the Beyond the Brewhouse tasting experience and it was a bit disappointing. Yes it includes 3 beer samples and you get to see most of the brewing spaces but we did not get much history or information from how each beer we tasted was, what is new with the brewery or the background of the brewing process in detail. I was expecting a bit more knowledge like they do at most wineries but at least I got to see the place and try new beers! read more

Visited the Samuel Adams brewery in Jamaica Plain, but did not do their tour as I did not book ahead. Instead, I just opted to visit their taproom, which is pretty standard. The taproom menu has flights in addition to pints. While Samuel Adams is a well-known craft beer brand, I wanted to try something that I could in stores. Thus, I tried their oyster stout which is brewed with Cape Cod oysters as I have never had a beer brewed with seafood before. The taproom was a bit crowded, so I got out of there after downing my beer. It is intended for groups as it has communal tables and games to play. There is even a shuffleboard table. If you intend to tour the brewery, I would recommend booking ahead of time on their website. Though if you just want a beer, the taproom is a decent spot. But it does seem a little out of the way to go to Jamaica Plain just for a beer. read more

I had the most horrible tour of my life with Dalton (or as he referred to himself - Dragon) as our guide. During the course of the tour he... - made multiple nazi "jokes" -endlessly mocked and harassed guests on the tour -went on a three minute rant about torturing prisoners at Guantanamo bay with electrocution, and pulling finger nails off -made more then one reference to using a gun to kill us (I have a Sam Adam's issues revolver and will give you a shot right here (point a finger gun to the center of his head) -discussed the use of "decaying animal carcasses" in their beers -told a story about how he strangles animals and eats their soul, saying he only eats bloody raw meat with blood soaked fur and all- when a guest said they like their meat cooked, he booed and asked the rest of the tour to boo them -when discussing a previous tour group, he very purposely dismissed and made fun of their entire culture I am confident that I am missing other glaring comments but without a doubt this was the most horrible tour I have ever been on. Every time I see a Sam Adam's, I will think of this experience and most likely not choose a Sam Adam's beer because of it. I will continue to tell friends and family from New England and the east coast about our horrible experience on the Sam Adam's tours read more

We had the best time at the taproom. We did the basic tour and it was absolutely worth the price. Not only do you get an inside look at the brewing process and history behind the brand, but the guides make it fun and engaging the whole way through. What really stood out to me was getting to sample some of their R&D flavors. It was exciting to try beers that are still in development and might not even make it to market, as well as the classics that everyone already knows and love. Between the quality of the beer, the knowledgeable staff, and the chance to taste something experimental, this tour is definitely a must for beer lovers. read more

I'm guessing most of the 5 star reviews are written after several of their libations as there wasn't really anything 5 star about our visit. Not in the nicest part of town, but thankfully there is plenty of off street parking. We got a free contact high when we got out of the truck which was great for the wife and I but the kids didn't love the smell. There seems to be 2 sides to this establishment; the tours and the tap room and they come complete with separate entrances. Because we were in beantown for a futsal match for my son we couldn't take the tour (21+) so we just checked out the food and of course, the brews. Been drinking Sam since before I could legally buy it because I've never been a fan of domestic lagers. Figured I had to finally check this place out. Unlike most breweries that distribute ubiquitously, the only way to get any special brews here is on the tour. Most others I've been to offer brewery only stuff right in the taproom but unfortunately we were relegated to drink the same stuff I can buy on the shelf at my local packie. I was thankful that the at least offered a side pull to add some character to an otherwise standard brew. The beers were as good as expected. Sam Adams doesn't tend to put out anything that could be construed as off-putting which is great because everything is at least serviceable. The food was basic and edible but nothing to make a trip here for. I was glad they had food, so I'm not complaining by any means. The cookies were good, but eat them right as they come out as once they get cold they turn to granite. Service was decent until when I went to close our tab and an off duty employee actually cut me in line. I understand that most brewery lines get kinda blurred sometimes but this was a clear as day cut me situation and the fact that it was an employee left me quite disappointed. I don't plan to go back, but if I ever did it would be for the tour so I could at least try some specialty brews and I would plan to grab dinner somewhere else. read more

This is a great brewery to stop by right in the heart of the city. It is completely free and no cover charge. We came on a Saturday night and they had many seating options. I am not a huge fan of beer but they did have hard seltzer available. The DJ playing on July 5th was great and had amazing hits lined up. Definitely a must visit when in Boston! We booked the 2nd tier-Beyond the brewhouse tour. We mostly booked this tour since the timings worked out best for our schedule. Even then we were running a little late and they were kind enough to move us to the next tour. This tour is $25 per person, but they do have a cheaper option for $10 per person. Both are 45 min long tours, but you get to see a few more rooms(including ones in a different building) and get to taste a few extra beers with the 2nd tier tour option. The sour beer tasted the best to me since it was very unique. They also give you a free shot glass at the end of the tour that you can wrap and take with you! The brewery itself and the explanations were a bit small, but overall, it was a very fun experience!! read more

When in Boston, stop in to get a tour of Sam Adams Boston Brewery. For $25, we received education on the history of the brewery and the making of beer. Jacob was a great tour guide who was knowledgeable and entertaining. We visited 3 areas and were able to drink a sample of beer in each place. My fav was the barrel vault where we tasted a rather potent beer that was quite delicious. We also got to keep the glass. Beyond the tour, the place has a nice tap room with large picnic tables. There are some food options and we opted for the crustinis. There is an outdoor patio with some roof coverage but it was raining on our visit so not a ton of people enjoying the outdoors. Nice stop. I'm not a huge beer person, but this was still a great place to hang out at. There's a huge list of beers, but there's a hard seltzer you can get if you're not a beer person like me. There were rows of giant long tables, great for group outings. There's also other seating, and a lot of it (they have a 1st and 2nd floor). I thought the food was okay, I think the best thing there was definitely the pizza. It was surprisingly doughy for looking like it was thin crust. I highly recommend the hot honey pepperoni. Yes, Samuel Adams is very much corporate beer. But past experience as well as recent experience with their beers I realize there are way more corporate beers out there that are lackluster , bland and have no TLC applied to it's creation compared to Samuel Adams. I revisited their flagship Boston Lager and which confirmed my opinion above on this. Flavors for the Boston Lager to experience are crisp, malty and herbaceous. super cool place! i absolutely love the way this brewery is decorated. there's a little shop as soon as you walk in, and the seating gives a very laid-back, lounge-type vibe. out of the food i tried, the pierogies were incredible. i personally love pierogies, but these had the perfect crunch on the outside to contrast with the smooth, buttery potato filling on the inside. they also came with an aioli for dipping that had a nice spice and a little kick to it, which i thought was great. the service was very quick & i got my food in less than five minutes. i also got the nachos, which were literally loaded to the brim, no complaints there, just incredible and very filling overall. i really loved the vibe of this place. there were bathrooms inside, board games if you wanted to play, and everyone was very nice and accommodating. there was even a giant tv screen playing halloween movies. read more

We always have to check out the brewery where it originated from, so a stop at Sam Adams was a must. Make sure you come to this brewery in Jamaica Plains and NOT the taproom, so you could get the actual tour. When you first arrive, it's situated in an unassuming neighborhood so don't be surprised. There is a parking lot, so parking wasn't an issue if you're driving. There was outdoor and indoor space for people to enjoy their beers as well. We started off with the Beyond the Brewhouse tour for $25 per person. I thought it was clever how they used the beer label as your ticket. This tour included 3 samples of beer as we were lead into 3 different rooms learning all about beer. In the end, you even get to keep a Sam Adams glass as a souvenir, so that was neat. Our guide was funny and enjoyable despite how much information was thrown at us. Great activity to check out while enjoying some beer. read more
