This is a wonderful restaurant that has to deal with a lot of shit. It's not in the best area, but I have always enjoyed my food there. We were coming back home from a Christmas lunch that ran long this year at 8:00 and they took our order and made us a very delicious dinner. We as a family have ordered take out pizza and I had eaten lunch several times at this location over the past eight years or so. Food quality was consistent and service was always acceptable for a restaurant of this level. The dining room was always clean and condiments available as needed. I think there were chairs upside down on some of the tables on one of my lunch visits but for the most part the restaurant was always clean and presentable. That all changed after the sale of the location to (well I will just leave it at that. Rather than mentioning who it was sold to.) I will say different countries have different levels of what we would call acceptable service. In America even though it isn't always the case by any means service at the Mancino's level restaurants is pretty consistent. That being said now the owners or the owners kids are just rude and act as if it is asking to much for them to make the food not to mention be expected to bring it to the table and check in from time to time for anything additional that may be needed. Since the sale I have only been back three times and each time food quality and quantity has been very poor. My favorite lunch used to be calzones from Mancino's, well that is not the case at least from this location. Dough was tough, pineapple sour and there were 1/3 less ingredients in the calzones. I understand less ingredients could be an argument at most any restaurant at the Mancino's level of restaurants. That could be more acceptable if the rudeness wasn't there and lack of location organization and cleanliness were what they should be. They are just rude period! Not like having one bad day which everyone has from time to time. That is why I gave them three chances to make sure I wasn't being unrealistic with my expectations or that was just a bad day for them. As I am writing this review it has been several years since I have been there so " maybe" it has improved but as they say that ship has sailed for me and I will never eat there or order pizza either. We order a lot from Door Dash. And one of our favorites has been Mancino's on Portage Rd. The last time we ordered it was really good. We order calzones and Sammy bread. The Sammy bread was light and buttery with just the right amount of garlic. The bread had been baked to perfection. Same with the calzones. Today however it seems they rushed and the outside of both the calzones and Sammy bread were nearly burnt and the inside was not baked through, especially on the calzones. We like this place because their grinders are pretty decent, even after they changed management/owners. Service is always friendly. This time, we decided to try their pizza because the pictures looked great. It was abysmal. I had to ask them if this was a frozen pizza. They said it's made fresh. I was so disappointed. It tasted just like a cheap frozen pizza from the supermarket. Their ads showed a beautiful one, and we got this. (see picture of the 1 slice vs. the picture on their website). Came here with my family to grab a quick bite to eat. We order two sandwiches-- Italian and Ham & Cheese, nuggets, and breadsticks. Seems like a simple order right?? No. We sat there and waited 30 minutes. I maybe would've understood the wait if we had ordered pizza and they were busy but not with what we ordered and there was only two other people there! We even had time to walk down and get food from a restaurant next door and still had to continue waiting when we got back. In the case of the food.. Breadsticks: 7/10 Cheese for breadsticks: 4/10 Ham & cheese: 5/10 Italian: 6/10 Nuggets 2/10 (cold and dry, maybe because they took so long to get us our food) Food was nothing special in my opinion. If you're looking for a sandwich that is basically overpriced bread, this is the place to go. I got the club grinder, which is supposed to have turkey and ham, and it only had a single slice of ham on each 4 inch section... The only toppings that were noticeable were the slimy, brown lettuce, and the tomatoes that I asked them not to put on the sandwich. Everyone in the kitchen looked like they were still in high school, and acted as such. 100% would not recommend. read more

Mancinos makes a pretty solid sandwich. The Portage location is the best Mancinos , the food is always fresh and well prepared and things happen pretty quickly.The service is always friendly and efficient, and downright cheerful. This was pretty much the worst place I have ever gone to for dine in Italian. All the pasta came in these little trays which if someone didn't tell me differently seemed as if they were Stouffers frozen dinners tossed in the over with a little extra cheese over the top. I'm so happy finding this place, the grinders are fantastic and especially at lunch, a really great value. I love the toasted bun and melted cheese, the fillings are rich and delicious, and they have lots of variations. The sides are less interesting (chips) and the soup passable, but nothing special and a bit over-priced. But it's the sandwiches you come for and they don't disappoint. Staff generally are quite nice and personable and put up with my indecision. And the food comes out pretty quickly. Overall it's great for the price and quick lunch. I have never tried their pizzas or other Italian dishes. Grinders seem to be their thing at least from the prominence on their menu. read more

We used Yelp to find an eatery near our location and we ended up here. My husband got the Sicilian grinder lunch special and an addl bowl of broccoli cheddar soup (served with a couple saltine crackers). I opted for the Italian grinder lunch special and a small order of breadsticks. The grinders were 8" sandwiches, served with a pickle slice, bag of chips(plain Lays), and a fountain drink. The lunch specials were around $7 if I remember correctly. My approx $4 small order of breadsticks was awesome! They were like supersized breadsticks-very thick with just the right amount of chewiness! It appeared to have Harlow butter brushed over it with an ample amount of cracked Black pepper and Parmesan sprinkled liberally over the top! The sandwiches were good and I would order them again. The soup was "average". But the breadsticks were something I will definitely get if I am ever in the area again!!!! read more

I called to place a carry out order for lunch. Would have been a multiple order for my office. The first several phone attempts were busy, so I know they were busy. However, when they did answer, they asked me to hold for a moment...no problem. After 18 minutes on hold, I had to hang up & go someplace else as my lunch hour would not allow for this. There's something you have to understand about the Mancino's locations in/around South Bend - even though they all have the same name, they are, apparently, all using different recipes. Case in point: the wings at this location [on Portage] are PERFECT - oven baked with not too much sauce - juicy and tender and easily the best wings in town. The wings at the other Mancino's locations are pretty bad. So come to this location for wings. The grinders and pizza are good here, as well. read more

Mancinos has really good pizza, all their food has good flavors. One recommendation is they need to be more generous with putting toppings on their pizzas. I usually order an extra large pizza and the toppings are kinda minimal. But flavors are very nice. I loooove their grinders. Especially their smothered steak grinder. I have no complaints about the sandwiches. Certain items on the menu are a lil pricey. But the food is rich but good quality food. Overall I highly recommend their food. Yum read more

Just Moved to the area and am so happy I found this Place. Had a Monster pizza. The toppings were generous and spread evenly. The crust is firm and held well folded. My husband, son, daughter and myself went to this Portage Avenue Mancino's because we remember it as being a great place for their grinders and pizza. We were met at the order counter by a young lady that seemed disinterested in her job. Not rude, just not interested in being helpful. After waiting about 30 minutes for our food, the grinders were burned and my taco salad was just lettuce, cold and overdone hamburger and tomatoes. My husband then ordered chicken nuggets. 30 minutes later, when they came to us, they were burned, cold and dried out. Oh, did I mention we were the only ones in there and it was dinner time. First AND LAST time I visited this Mancino's was last night. Ordered 16" with 2 topping pizza. First of all the cost was $18.59! Secondly... it was awful. Pizza was limp, pieces drooped in your hands. Toppings couldn't have been any skimpier, and hardly any cheese. I've only ever gotten the subs from Mancino's. They have a delicious toasted bread that is soft on the inside still. The meat and cheese come in generous portions and are wonderfully melted together. There are not a lot of toppings, usually just mayo, lettuce, and tomato, but somehow that is just fine. As for the rest of their food, I am not at liberty to say. read more
