Dr. Hernandez has been my glaucoma specialist for many years. I find him professional and thorough. He did recommend Dr Thomas for my cataract surgery and while the doctor and all the staff were pleasant and apparently the surgery was a success, almost everything else was lacking. I could mention so many problems but two of the biggest were being told the incorrect lens to have implanted which fortunately was caught before surgery. Secondly due to the type of lens there is necessary follow up care which took over a month to schedule. Because I will need 3 or 4 appointments this will be dragging on for months. Based on my experience I would not recommend San Antonio Eye Center for cataract surgery. read more

I personally had a quality experience here and everyone was wonderful and professional with my 19yr old son and I. The staff member who did the initial screening and dilated our eyes was extremely thorough and very intuitive to our needs. Through the pre screening questions we were able to disclose that we both have auditory processing disorder and she seemed to know exactly what I meant by that and we were very reassured by her asking us if the music that was on very low was bothering us. Since it was low and the rooms were well sound insulated and there was no additional secondary or third noise interferences it was not at all a issue but we REALLY appreciated her asking. (Not everyone understands the disability) She seemed to be aquatinted with it and we felt very seen that day. It there was additional noises we may not be able to process the conversation in the same way as a say (average person) because we actually hear sounds at the same level throughout the room.A average person without a processing disorder wouldn't notice as much and it was very considerate to ask us. Thank Anyway,we scheduled through Zoc Doc and we're very happy with how quickly the staff was able to find us appointments after we accidentally scheduled with specialist in specific areas of eye surgery issues instead of a standard vision screening for glasses for both my son and I who are nearsighted. The staff we worked with personally were outstanding and polite.Went above and beyond in the pre screen and the Doctor had a great demeanor and gave a excellent exam. Very through and probably the most lengthy visit I have ever had but that's not bad.It's good.It didn't feel rushed in the slightest. We also rather enjoyed all the beautiful photography displayed in the waiting area of the lovely Victorian mansion that was converted. I would have loved to see the rest. As far as mask being work here.They are (mostly) being worn by staff. It is expected of the clients and they make that clear on the phone prior but not everyone in the staff had them on and this is intimidating for sure with Delta,and I would like to feel more confident that they're going to be better about enforcing them with all staff and hopefully they take my suggestion to heart. I don't get PTO and am self employed and work directly with the people one on one and can't distance in my field of expertise so It would greatly be appreciated if they tightened up on this for sure since there is no convenient way even if it was mild for me to run a course of Covid if infected. 2weeks in quarantine cost me money so it's a hassle I don't need.Regardless I am pretty sure we would come again but definitely want to see this standard met better for mask. Overall I would recommend this place and plan to come back again for my annual exam. read more

I paid over $1,000 out-of-pocket before EACH procedure. Then, I immediately got a bill for $445 right after the final surgery. I currently have an outstanding balance due of $986. Having my eyes checked twice now by Dr. Dianne Barrett has been one of the most professional eye visits I have ever experienced! I had a 'detached retina' in Reno, NV and the other eye had 'lattice degeneration' in Champaign, IL. Emergency laser surgery performed on both to ensure I did not 'go blind'!! Living now in Texas it is a true blessing that Dr. Barrett takes an exceptional amount of time examining my eyes to ensure their 'health' is still in excellent condition. Yes, she is quiet, but very professional and the point of my visit is to ensure I do not 'go blind',, not there for socializing. My wife & I have gone to San Antonio Eye Center, going on 3 years. SAEC is staffed with Serious Eye Care professionals! They have state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and techniques We deeply appreciate the care and treatment your team provides us! We are both in our 60s and both have various eye issues: Dr. Semler is our optometrist. Knowledgeable and caring. Dr. Nagi is my wife's opthomologist, who treats her Glaucoma. Again, a Pro! But I am compelled to share, Dr. Maestro just completed my Cataract Surgery! I am a Video engineer and the thought of surgery on my eyes was terrifying! But 2 weeks post surgery and the eye went from a "foggy blurry mess" to 20/20! . Why would you trust your eyesight to a facility in a strip mall? Seriously!!! Eyesight is a precious Gift! My gf has been seeing Dr Dyer for over 3 years. Yesterday she wa supposed to have an injection but, unfortunately her eye pressure was too high. Normally this would not have been a problem, but because this is the last week of the year, she will need new referrals in 2024 approved by her insurance before she can be seen again. This would have delayed her treatment. All the folks at the center worked together to get her seen and get her injection the very next day. I can not adequately express my gratitude to all those who made this possible. Special kudos to Dr Dyer, Dr Hayes, Roxanne and Nicole for all the help provided. I am an established patient but they said I had to fill out all the paperwork again because they changed systems and did not change everything over. Then I was told after my normal copay I would have to pay another $45 for another exam they require that takes the place of dilation. I asked about just doing the normal dilation and they said that would be $65. When I called another doctor who takes my insurance, all of those would be included and I would not have to pay additional. I switched doctors. read more

To say I was appalled at the lack of professionalism within this practice primarily regarding Dr. Barrett is an understatement. Valid medical concerns were dismissed and openly scoffed at. She did nothing short of ridiculing her patients when they expressed concerns about troubling symptoms. Dr. Barrett should take the adage to heart; "the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking" Perhaps it is time for her to find a profession more suited to her insolent demeanor. Dr. Barrett is unprofessional and has horrible bedside manners. Rather than take the time to build rapport and listen to patient's concerns, she ridicules and intimidates them, deterring them from being able to voice any questions, concerns or issues. When you bring up a concern about a side effect from a procedure, she dismisses the concern - despite observable evidence that something is wrong. This type of behaviors is abhorrent, especially when working with elderly patients who need compassion, patience and time. If you have a love one and will not be able to advocate for them or supervise appointments (because you will need to with her), do not bring your business here. This practice may only be interested in billable units and not necessary patient care. read more

This clinic has some significant insurance company issues. I had a doctor appointment for over a month, by referral, and upon entering was told, there was no referral. Then I was requested to pay out of pocket. The entire issue at hand is stupid. If you need my insurance information, why not verify that when we spoke a month earlier? The Southside office calleded me 45 mins prior to my 10:30 appointment. The female told me: she had been trying all day to get approval frpm my insurance to pay. I called my insurance who told me they called 32 minutes ago and still no approval. Now its 20 minutes from my appointment. I was asked it I wanted to cancel so I would not be a "no-show" I asked why did you wait to the last minutes to get this done. It was explained to me: it was not on them...it was also my responsibility, after the appointment was set weeks prior to make sure they got paid. Very unprofessional. Very unacceptable. As a business owner...I will not allow paid employees to give customets black eyes. A professional company must take responsibility for inconveniences...or will face the high price of negative reviews. read more

San Antonio Eye Center is the "pill mill" of eye centers. Yes, you can get an appointment but the staff is sub par. The techs are okay but you get there and you are essentially treated like a number. Techs do the initial work up and even if you saw them yesterday they go through all of this my guess is to bill for them. You are treated like cattle going from one waiting room to another to spend 5 minutes with a doctor who doesn't have any time. There are good and bad doctors here but the whole set up is the opposite of patient centered care. Even when exiting you are shunted into a waiting area so you can be "processed" when convenient for them. read more

My elderly mother goes to this practice at the San Pedro location. I was considering switching my care because it's close to home and the docs have been good to my parents. BUT, after taking her there today and being treated so rudely by the front desk staff, forget going back. My comments have to do with the Light Adjustable Lenses (LAL) I purchased after my cataract surgery, which went very well. Dr.Nagi was great and I would definitely recommend him if you are considering cataract surgery. However, I do not recommend these lenses. I did not get the results I was hoping for after all adjustments were done. I feel like I spent $6,000 and got nothing for my money. They were not able to be adjusted to give me good vision in both eyes both near and far and now I will have to go back to wearing glasses again which defeats the purpose of why I chose them. Think very carefully before you invest in these lenses. Do not believe everything you might read about how great they are. I wish I had done more research before I spent all this money. I hope this helps anybody who may be considering these lenses. read more

Went there just for eyeglasses. Great help, no pressure to buy what you aren't looking for or can't afford. There was a mix up when I went to pick up my glasses. I was told at my initial meeting my total was $25 for the copayment, and could pay that when I came to pick up my glasses. When I went to get my glasses, they said it was actually $99. I was a bit upset bc I had recently lost a fairly new pair of glasses, so I was specifically wanting a cheap pair/lowest amount. I was told to come back when the certain employee was back. A couple weeks past as I was out of town for work. I called and spoke to the employee, and she was beyond understanding and recognized their mistake. They immediately offered me a discount which lowered it back down to the quoted $25. I would go back for eyeglasses despite the mix up. The customer service was very nice and helpful. read more

I had an appointment first at the McCullough location. It is a very cramped waiting area. Now I know why the appointment reminder said to arrive no more than 15 minutes before your appointment time. The check in process was fine. About an hour PAST my appointment time, I went to let them know I was still waiting. Their response was, "there's 5 people ahead of you". I was flabbergasted. They answered with their 15 minute rule. I refused to wait in a cramped waiting room where people almost had to play musical chairs to be able to sit down. I asked them to find me an appointment at one of their other locations. They found me an appointment at the Basse location within a short amount of time. I arrived there and their waiting area was a bit bigger. I was called within a short amount of time. That's where the nightmare started. After all the priliminary tests done by the staff, Dr Scott Thomas came in and did his own tests. After a very short time, he starts by saying "Well your eyesight is not much different than before. I see no diabetes". That's where I stopped him and told him that I have been diabetic for over 35 years. He turned around as if he had gotten whiplash. He then says "What I meant is you don't have diabetic retinopathy" He said this with an angry scowl on his face and slowly enunciating diabetic retinopathy. He said there were two other tests that could be done at a later time. He is saying this while typing in my chart. When he didn't say the correct term, I felt that he didn't think I would even know it. This practice has many senior patients as evidenced by the number of them seen in both locations. Just because people are a certain age or look a certain way, it should not be assumed that they are of a lesser intelligence level. I'm coming back in two weeks, hopefully I won't have another nightmare occurrence. read more

I've been to the downtown location many times with my father and I can honestly say I will never recommend going unless you have time to waste you end up sitting around for hours only to see the doctor for maybe 5 mins if your lucky...there's also been a constant issue with dr.Barrett she has consistently embarrassed my family every time and has no shame that she is treating patients this way. To put the cherry on top of the amazing experiences we've have had they don't communicate with each other we are constantly told one set of appointments from the ladies in the front then a completely different set of appointments for the same thing from the nurses it's ridiculous. read more

I went here as they were preferred by my insurance and I heard they were the best. Dr Hahn was great. However the staff leaves a lot to be desired. I was advised I needed cataract surgery in both eyes at age 38. I was advised I would be contacted to discuss pricing and scheduling. Never did receive this call. Went to Pre-Op and got my surgery day but still heard nothing about pricing until I showed up for surgery and was told the cost. She said I was advised of that already to which I said I wasn't. She said a message was left. Yeah, no. I was waiting for the call. I paid it and had the right eye done as it was less than I expected anyway. But I am 38 and work full time. I'm not 300 years old where I can drop everything. Thank god I had already estimated the date and requested two weeks off. Would have been nice to be contacted. Still have one eye to go. read more

I know ophthalmologists are few and far between, but if you can go anywhere else, do so. This clinic is consistently over scheduled and runs hours behind. An appointment that should take 1 hour (it has happened once) typically takes well over 3. The staff and physician obviously do not care and don't even pretend to try to be prompt. read more

My mom sees Dr Jardeleza and she is very satisfied with her she has seen other retina ophthalmologist but has never been explained what the Diabetes can affect her eye sight until Dr Jardeleza has taken her time to do it. My mom totally adores her. My grandmother has been attending the location on Dallas Ave. She had an appointment this week and was treated rudely by the front office staff. She needs assistances due to her lack of vision and the front desk staff refused to assist her with calling a ride and she was left for two hours waiting in their office without anyone assisting her. She has a lot healthy issues and the front desk staff ignored her multiple times and refused as well as lectured my grandmother after a painful treatment. Absolutely inappropriate. read more

A week later they cancelled the surgery because their billing department made a mistake about my insurance. Now they keep harrising me about when am I going to come in. Everything about the appointment was professional, friendly, and efficient. Walking into the downtown office where D. Barrett works out of is first of all GHETTO. The front office staff, Ghetto. No manners, just starred at me while I was trying to check in. I scheduled for when they opened, and I get it, but if you work this early, be ready to present yourself nicely and welcoming. Then they said they needed my referral or else couldn't see me. Getting my records to them was a NIGHTMARE of everyone telling me to send it to 2 different faxes. No send them here, then, no send them directly to the location I'm going to. It was awful, so that was great that she then asked me for it because I told her I couldn't even schedule WITHOUT it! Geez1 Good think I brought it with me. So then I arrive with my contacts & need to get dilated so everywhere else I have gone, they provide me with a case and solution. The gal says "oh we usually don't have any cases". What the hell!?? Ok, she finds one for me. Then I waited like 1 hr in this back waiting area where all you could hear was a lady giving pre op info to people and yelling it at the top of her lungs beacuse they were hard of hearing, well just close the door!. All this information all loud for the whole waiting room to hear. Dr. Barrett walked in and hid in some room for like another 20 min ( I didn't know this was her at the time). Someone went to grab her like "chop, chop, lets go". I finally get in the room and see her for like 10 min. Who ever the tech was at this point was actually nice. He then tells me to sit up front and wait for them to call me up. I sit for like 15 min and the front desk just chatting away and crap. I finally went up and I was like ummm???? I'm I supposed to check out? She looked irritated, I told her the guy told me to have a seat & I've been waiting. It's not like they were busy doing any other things. She pulled up my stuff and blah blah schedule your next appt which I didn't want to anyway since I had to decide if I wanna go back. Reminds me, I need to cancel it. They checked in a later appointment before my appointment even though I was on time. I asked if I would be seen first at my appointed time. They stated they would but they did not. I spoke with office manager. She stated they will see other people if they are early. I stated I specifically have the first appointment of the day to be seen first. She said it would be best if I when somewhere else. I spoke to the district manager Greg who stated it is company policy to go by appointment times. He did state he will speak with the manager and probably write her up as it is the customer that decides to leave not them. I pointed out I did not receive an apology, but then stated to state that there are times when they do not have to follow the appointments. When I pointed out he just stated it is company policy to adhere to the appointments. He stated he was curios as to why I would stay with them if I was never ever happy with them. I was in shock and stated he is stating the same as what the manager who was supposed to get a write up for and he was stating the same thing but in a nicer way. He was supposed to call me back that day with the medical board complaint number that is required to be posted in the clinic which it was not. He was also go over what he spoke with manager about. He has not called back and not retured several messages. It was a great place but leadership has made it terrible! read more
