Our (prior) routine optometrist completely ignored, overlooked, and/or missed that both hubby & I had quite significant cataracts, despite both of us informing the prior doctor that we "couldn't see" even with new prescriptions. I guessed it might be cataracts. I searched for "best cataract surgeon in San Antonio", which led us to San Antonio Eye Specialists. Oh. My. Goodness. What a welcome and helpful difference in doctors, and outcomes! SA Eye Specialists are in a beautiful facility that is sparkling clean and welcoming. The office staff are friendly, and efficient. The medical staff are phenomenal, from our initial screenings & testing all the way up to and including Dr. Membreno, who now has replaced both my cataracts with the Light Adjustable Lens, while my husband went with Dr. Membreno's suggestion of a Toric lens for his situation. We are both absolutely delighted! I've been through an additional, unexpected (by me) procedure after there was clouding connected to my new lenses, before we could start the light adjustments (I think the "clouding" is called YAG or something? Apparently extremely common; I was lucky mine occurred - and was corrected - prior to the adjustments to my lenses.). All was handled quickly, with everything being explained clearly and thoroughly, from beginning to end. Dr. Membreno is phenomenal, and I'd recommend him in a heartbeat, to anyone with eye concerns. What struck me the most about him initially is his knack for being present: When he's with you, he's 10000% tuned in to YOU. It's as if he has nothing else in the world to concern him aside from you. What a reassuring and comforting experience, especially regarding something as important as your eyes and vision! We now consider San Antonio Eye Specialists our one-and-only eye doctor, as we will be coming here for any & all eye issues we have that fall within their purview. As one who has worn glasses or contacts for ~60 years, saying I'm ecstatic to be able to see is an enormous understatement. Colors are vivid and clear like I don't remember seeing, ever. I'm still undergoing adjustments on the light adjustable lens and yet already I'm able to read fairly well, and crochet, without glasses. Very excited and pleased! read more

I had my Lasik surgery done here some years ago. Yes, at that time the office was very efficient and thorough. They really seemed to care about their patients. SOMETHING has changed. 3 yrs ago I had been experiencing flashes of light, and the receptionist would not schedule me until months later. I had to right a complaint for their optometrist to intercede and get me in that day. Last year 2025 I tried to get in since my eyes are experiencing foggy, cloudy vision which in fact affecting my vision. Once again, they claimed I was not able to get in to see the doctor until Feb. 2026. I agreed to wait. So, my appointment is in fact scheduled for tomorrow and today they send me a text stating I may have a 1 to 2 hour wait since the doctor has lots of patients. THIS IS UNEXECTABLE! How do you know you are running 1-2 hours late a whole day early!! So, when I call Melanie answers with zero concern and when I ask for my records so I could go find a new doctor who can in fact help me with my eye problems she had zero effort to keep me as a patient. She just said OKAY it will be $25 and it will take 10 to 15 days to get you your records. WOW!!! At this point who cares if Dr. Iskander does the surgery, it's HOW does he and his staff take care of the health of your eyes after the surgery! I am so very disappointed and will NEVER refer anyone here. read more

Ok, so I am writing this before my actual procedure, but thought I would.let you all know what to expect. The facility is clean and well laid out. The staff were great at today's visit. I did have a hiccup during my last visit but the team were quick to address it. For me, communication is key. The doctor was very straightforward (which I like) and he explained what I could expect from the various procedures available. He made recommendations based on my age, my vision, and what would have the longest lasting results. I am trying out the contacts for mono vision to see if I can adjust to it. I was never idle for more than 3-5min at a time, throughout the screening process. Appointment was at 10am so got here at 9:45 assuming paperwork. They have an electronic registration system that scans your license and insurance card. Not sure how I feel about it but it went smoothly. Convenient location right off of 1604. Looks like a semi upscale doctors office. Not too many frills. Coffee and water available. Very loud as I sit in the waiting room. Lots of promotional videos playing on multiple TVs. Called back at 9:55 to fill out forms in a second waiting room. Much more cramped than the first. Basic medical history form. I find it interesting that all the clipboards are from a finance company. Filled out form in a few minutes now waiting to be called back more. Waited in the second waiting area for over 25 minutes. Not a great start. Had a bunch of tests done in 3 different rooms. Went to final exam room and was told doctor will be in shortly at 11am. Doctor finally came in after more than 25 minutes of me sitting in the room alone. Doctor came in and we spent about 10 minutes talking options. His recommendation was to do nothing now which shocked me in a good way. I am getting a prescription for some night driving glasses but no surgery. The waiting was a bit much but finding an honest doctor is great. read more

60.00 in addition to a 100.00 copay because my medical insurance won't pay an add on charge for a eye exam prescription !! I could have gone to my 59.99 or the owl optical and had on OD examine me instead of a Tech and the dr came in for five minutes to review his finding.. I would have left with a prescription in hand which should be part of and eye exam NOT A CHANCE TO MAKE 60.00 more for a piece of paper!! My husband and I both got lasik done here and they did an excellent job. We did go to two different locations to get quotes and understanding of their processes and their doctors. The reason for my rating is as follows: 1. Fair pricing 2. The dr made us feel at ease and we trust him 3. The associate doctor was very friendly and nice and knowledgeable 4. Staff is consistent and friendly 5. Very efficient. You aren't waiting there for hours. They are timely which I very much appreciate. 6. They are thorough and ensure best patient care 7. Clean. They cleaned materials consistently prior to putting anything near eyes or in my hands. The only somewhat negative thing I'd say is this: I followed all protocols in preparation for my procedure. I took it very seriously. When I got to my surgery, under microscope there was still residual eye make up. I was last patient to undergo surgery and they actually had tried calling me to come earlier but I couldn't due to work. The nurse just seemed somewhat irritated and frustrated that I had make up left. I even apologized and she didn't respond. I felt she was a tad rough and rushed bc of that and wasn't as gentle as she potentially could have been and it definitely hurt which I believe contributed to the pain that night post surgery. Every person I met, every email and phone call, every aspect of planning, scheduling, the consultation, the surgery, and the follow up was so incredibly warm and welcoming, professional and calming. It made my entire experience such a joy and a breeze. Nadja is a sweet, sweet soul who bent over backwards and performed pure magic to work with my crazy schedule. She even found me in the office to introduce herself to me and put a face to an email name! It was a small detail that really blew me away. Christopher was knowledgeable and easy to talk to and was eager to answer all of my annoying questions. I'm in nursing school and he helped calm my nerves by just keeping up a great conversation. I feel like the biggest jerk for not remembering the amazing women at the doors names, but their warm welcome 3 days in a row, and remembering my face was another small detail that made all the difference. Dr. Iskander is THE best! My experience with him was excellent and all of the staff are super helpful and comforting. I think one even offered her hand because i was a little scared at first. Just a few big deep breaths and it was over. My rx was -4.5 so i was ready to get it done. They'll get you all suited up with a cap and shoe covers then you'll go to the procedure room where a family member can actually see it all happening. He'll come in when everything is prepped and get right to work. He narrated the whole procedure as it was happening. No pain at all but there is a part where pressure is applied to the eye and everything goes black for a second. That was the only semi uncomfortable part. He'll ask you to blink or look a certain direction when he's applying drops and then it's over in 5-10 minutes. Honestly it'll probably be more uncomfortable for whoever is watching it. Haha. After wards, everything is hazy but no where near how blurry it is without glasses. By the time you get home, your eyes are going to burn! It's the worst part of everything. Feels like glass is stuck in your eyes and you're tearing up everywhere. Just take your meds, put on your bed goggles, and go to sleep! The next day, it's all passed and you can see without glasses! There will be some light sensitivity and you'll have to be putting eye drops around the clock, but it is so worth every penny! Swimming, working out, just being able to get up out of bed without blindly searching for glasses that fell on the floor! I'm still in awe. My husband, brother in law and sister in law all had it done by Dr. Iskander and have had no problems. It's been about 3 years for me and still doing fine with perfect vision. It will be worth it! And you couldn't be in better hands with Dr. Iskander and his staff. read more

So I left so disappointed on my first visit as you read in my prior post. Well everything has changed now. After I left and the lady at the front desk knew I was upset; she had the office manager call me. He was very nice and apologized for the wait. He mentioned he wasn't sure what happened and asked if I would give them a second chance. I did and I am very happy now. They got me in and out very quickly. The date we rescheduled worked perfectly for me. We all make mistakes and I understand companies are not able to bat 100% all the time. It is how we handle the mistakes which define companies.
