I popped inside San Clemente Antiques expecting the same kinda of antique alley, crammed with a lot of things, kinda overwhelming to browse. Instead, the store is spacious, airy for this kinda of a store, nicely organized. They also have new items on display, paintings, home decor, cool merchandise that would fit nicely in your place or make a good gift. A bit of local artists creations, Mexican pottery, a nice mix. They also have older items, a nice selection of more one of a kind, interesting things. Great place to browse and shop in, I really liked their merchandise, more interesting and fresh! read more

A friend and I passed through here a couple weeks ago just to look and I stumbled on a beautiful Smith-Corona typewriter. Unfortunately, I didn't purchase it that day and it was gone when I came by today. BUT I found an Olympia SM8 instead and I took it home with me. It is GORGEOUS and in excellent condition. There are some minor paint drips on some of the keys and other surfaces from the previous owner, but nothing that prevents it from functioning as it should. Already popped in new typewriter ribbon, as I had an extra spool from owning an Olympia SM3. Excited to write on this! The people who work here are really sweet and helpful. Cash and cards accepted. Looks like most antique shops, but very organized. Definitely check it out if you're ever in San Clemente. read more

We stumbled in after having lunch across the street at Nicks. If you love unique treasures, this is certainly the place to go because it's packed with great items both old and new. I could've picked up so many cute things but shopping with the hubby at times could be a total buzz kill. Unfortunately for me, this was one of those times. I did manage to find a very cute owl necklace that I knew my sister would love and resisted his request to "think about it" or comments like, "does she really need it?". Of course not but she'll love it. She's always loved owls and this piece was too cute to pass up. If you love to antique shop, you must stop here if you're in the area. I think San Clemente gets overlooked by tourists scurrying up & down PCH on their way to better-hyped destinations. That's good for those of us who enjoy a leisurely exploration of the S. Calif. coast. San Clemente was smart to set up their shopping district off PCH, on laid-back Avenida Del Mar. The main attraction is crowded, image-conscious open-air eateries where people enjoy sitting at cramped tables, shouting to be heard above the din. Interspersed here & there are appealing shops like San Clemente Antiques. I only spent $3.50 but they treated me like it was $350. I was helped by two very charming women who lovingly wrapped my tiny treasure and sent me on my way with smiles and warm wishes. They responded to my enjoyment of a small memento from the distant past, not its dollar value. Parking: I noticed people stressing to snag a parking spot along the Avenida as if their lives depended on it. Relax. There are numerous public lots with spaces galore. Walking a few extra steps won't kill ya. read more

Interesting items, incredibly friendly staff (thanks Brenda and Barbie), and a neat old-world atmosphere that makes you forget it's the 21st century. Different sellers consign items here, so you never know what you might find. And as a reply to the snooty review from Heather B - who LIVES in San Clemente - free plain paper bags and careful wrapping of delicate items were automatic on every transaction I've had, and every transaction my wife has had, and every transaction my Mom has had, regardless of purchase price. Also- their handled bags are not the disposable kind, so yes, they are several dollars, and not free. read more

I wandered into this store a few days before Christmas, hoping to find some good deals on last-minute Christmas presents. 25 minutes later, I had forgotten why I had even come in because I was in antique-lookie heaven. I would say San Clemente Antiques rivals the antique stores in Orange with their extensive, extensive, extensive collection. The showroom is organized into sections by seller, and each seller has a theme. The front of the store draws you in with an adorable retro collection of records, pod shaped chairs, and the like. Then antiques extend backwards into infinity. I was with a friend and didn't want to hog our shopping time, but could have easily spent hours pouring over everything. The reason I only gave San Clemente Antiques four stars instead of five is because I was never asked if I needed any help finding anything by the employees. Normally I do not need help finding anything, but this time I actually had a very specific item I was looking for: old black-and-white or sepia pictures of San Clemente. They might have been in there somewhere, but I never found them and could not find an available employee to help me. I know "the hunt" is part of the antiqueing experience, but one would think that a shop on Del Mar would be accustomed to lots of questions and assisting. Nice little antique shop, which is a rare thing in the OC. They had nothing I was interested in, but it was nice to browse.

I LIVE in San Clemente. I've shopped here numerous times (even before I lived here, my sister's family did). This time, the manager/owner's behavior was so appalling that I will not go back. Admittedly my purchase was small, this time (under $10). I was a little surprised when at first the fragile, glass items were being bagged without wrapping them. "Um, can we wrap them in something? I don't mind if it's a paper towel, but they need something." So, the items were wrapped individually -as they should be- and crammed into a miniature paper (lunch-style) sack that barely contained them. It was not conducive to strolling around on Del Mar as it would need to be carried in both hands. The bottom hand to keep it from bursting out all over the sidewalk and the top to balance the 4 awkwardly stacked items and keep them from spilling out the top. "Um, may I have a small bag with handles?" "NO. No, I can't. My bags are too expensive for that," She said. "Whaaaa..." I began, shocked. "In fact, people tell me that I should start charging for them." "Only grocery stores do that," I told her, getting my voice back. "For now." She argued. "Wow." I turned on my heel and walked out the door, never to return again. As a former shop owner, myself, I would NEVER handle a transaction that way. This could've been a positive Yelp review. She lost me for all future sales, and I will be sure to 'tell a friend.' Side note: The Three Dog Bakery (also on Del Mar) gave me a handled bag (big enough for my San Clemente Antique's purchase too) for the FREE pupcake that I'd redeemed a coupon for. I like this place a lot. This is where I found my coastal style display cabinet. They have such a wide variety of antiques and a wide variety of decorator items, it was real nirvana for me. They're really nice people too. Sometimes you go into these ritzy coastal shops and there's a vibe that makes you feel out of place. You know, those shops that can spot people of means from the regular folk. They kind of give you the skunk eye and make you feel like you're a Beverly Hillbilly that just rolled into town walking your pet goat. It's just the opposite with this shop. They are friendly and helpful and go out of their way to be of service and make you feel welcomed. When I first came in to look at the cabinet I eventually bought, I was debating all manner of ways to get this thing home. They offered a lot of advise, from a local pastor who might deliver it, to the young man who works there part time. He was more than willing to help load or move any item on days he was working. They were throwing around ideas among themselves about how I could best transport my item. After leaving, I eventually called back to give them my CC info and make my purchase. It was just about closing but they were happy to stay late to take my information. They worked with my delivery person when he came the next day and went above and beyond to ensure my satisfaction. I couldn't have been treated better if I were a Kardashian that decided to grace this little shop with my shock and awesome presence. Really great items here too. There were pieces that were one of a kind that I knew I'd never see again. It was SO hard to leave them behind. I have to make a trip back. There's bucket list stuff here, stuff I need to have before I kick the bucket stuff. It's quite far for me, but I'm going to make a special effort to come here again. A fun place to browse and shop and reminisce....saw old lunch boxes and toys from our childhood that we discarded but are now nostalgic and worth something! Scooby-doo lunch box, should have taken better care of you! I bought a fun vintage beach sign ("Happiness is barefoot at the beach" -- reminder of our awesome summer vacation) and my friend bought me a beautiful beaded tea candle holder which I was admiring but could not decide on. She bought it for me so that every time I look at it, it would remind me of her. How sweet is that!!?!! What a great store. read more
