Went to this place some years ago when it was in old location. And thought is good enough then. Simple. No frills gym. All the equipment you could want, and no crowds. New space is awesome. Spacious. Various rooms dedicated to different machines. Got a little bit of everything, except. Lots of people. Staff working was friendly. Music selection was good but not overbearing. Everything was clean. And the prices are surprisingly cheap. Highly recommend. read more

Pretty awesome old school bodybuilding gym typical of what you'd except near a California beach. Drop in fee was $15 which was very reasonable and I was able to just show up, pay, and get to my workout. Had a great selection of machines, dumbbells, a few squat racks + smith machine, benches and deadlift platform. read more

Kind of at a loss on this one. We enrolled in an exercise program through our insurance company that allows us to use a few gyms in our neighborhood. We've never had a problem with using it until San Clemente Gym. While we were greeted warmly as we entered, that changed once we said we were part of the insurance program. The girl at the front desk motioned for another guy(didn't get the name) to come over, which he began this story about how they were at their quota for the program. He was very dismissive and honestly didn't care whether we were helped or not. After calling our program, they assured us that there isn't a "quota" for the program, and that the gentleman took it on himself to make his own policy. All in all, San Clemente Gym may be a nice place to work out, but their front desk people gate keep that for your normal Joe Schmo. If I could give you a word of advice, stop making up things to keep from serving your community. It doesn't look good and will end up backfiring. Or just don't participate in programs you don't want to honor. read more

No rust (pretty common near ocean) Clean bathrooms Mag handles Plenty of collars (and they're nice) I'm not having a con's section, because this gym is a small neighborhood style gym. Stayed at the Volare hotel for a Spring Break getaway. The hotel gym was tiny (2 bikes and 1 elliptical) but to our pleasant surprise we were offered complimentary passes to the local gym across the street - San Clemente Gym. The location, vibe and friendly staff was the perfect touch to our family stay. You have everything from free weights, Smith machines, a yoga room, sauna and cardio row (treadmills, bikes, elliptical). If you're like my hubby and daughter you can run to the pier (heads up it's uphill coming back) and then work on strength/resistance training after. We came as a family of 5 and didn't feel over crowded inside. Next time you're in town be sure to visit this local gym to get your sweat on cause, "Everyday is a good day to workout!" read more

I love this gym. The hours are great and the owners and staff are super friendly. It's wonderful to support small local businesses. You can't beat the membership rate. This is mostly a lifting gym with some cardio equipment. No classes or pool. Coffee is available for purchase along with some snacks. There is sauna therapy available as well. : ) read more

Excellent gym for boutique style. Ima competitive bodybuilder and was not disappointed. I was able to get solid and thorough lifts every day while on vacation. Plenty of needed equipment, they offer a room for powerlifting exercises, they have small locker room area with single use shower and a single use sauna. Very rare. The gym was always tidy and all equipment in place. Very clean facility for such hard working style gym. Manager is friendly and great service every day offered to me for being a short term customer. Reading the other comments is leaving me scratching my head.. Do you want Equinox, shell out $200/month and drive to Newport, you want LA Fitness, get in line for equipment and drive. Still not sure who the guy is who wants the sauna, that actually scares me and makes me glad I never got in when he was there... SC Gym is what a small local gym is supposed to be; usable equipment is good condition, great staff and a friendly helpful vibe. I love coming here and glad that's here for me,I go to the gym to workout, sweat and go home...mission accomplished. read more

This place is amazing - best gym hands down. Not a place for snow flakes (see Scott review) just an old school gym with great equipment and nice people. If you want a pick-up place or a place to politely do light workouts and talk non-stop then this probably isn't the place for you. This place is amazing!! Recommended by a friend when I was looking for a new gym. Amazing and friendly staff. It's little but has all the equipment you need and is hardly ever busy. I have a great personal trainer now that works at the gym, his name is Johnathon. If you need help with something, people are always there to guide you. There's also supplement choices and a company that provides meal plans at the gym. It's old school and I love it!! read more

The San Clemente gym is a great place to exercise in San Clemente. They're a small, independently operated gym, but the have all the equipment you could need. The gym has an old school bodybuilding vibe which you don't see often these days. The staff and regulars are all great to interact with. The location is hard to beat right on Camino Real and near Avenida Del Mar. They even have an ocean view out front. If you're in the area, I highly recommend getting a membership here instead of one of the big-box chain gyms. read more

I'm new in town and I love this gym. It's a gruff old school neighborhood gym that you just don't see anymore. I met the new owner today and they are making improvements (bathrooms etc) but I'll be fine with the way things are. My favorite cardio machine has an ocean view. The guys who train there are cool and laid back. I'm very happy there. read more
