Coming here to drop off something a loved one needs , like glasses etc , is a awful experience . The people running the booths here are absolutely horrible human beings . They have the worst social skills I've ever encountered. This place is an absolute hell hole. The workers here should be ashamed of themselves. As disheartening it is to have a family member incarcerated, this place is like salt on the cut. I called 30 minutes before they closed trying to schedule a visit for the next day. I was on hold the whole time and it kept saying "All representatives are busy" over and over again. I really don't know why I keep coming back! I ask for a single room and they give me a double, sometimes even a triple! I request soft scrambled eggs with my morning breakfast and they have the utter audacity to give me hard boiled eggs as an alternative, and the toast is never completely toasted, half-assed. The coffee is brought to me cold to the touch; I consider this to be a slap in the face! The bed is lumpy but sandals they issue are quite comfortable and imported from China, also it should be noted that there was no view from my balcony. The staff is less than gracious in their dealings with their customers. Many have a, "I-Don't-Give-A-Shit" attitude about their work and leave their post early and unattended, someone could get killed, but they don't seem to care at all. The other patrons seem to be just as unhappy with the service as I am and have filed numerous complaints with the management that also seem to embrace the same "I Don't-Give-A-Shit" philosophy as well; so I taking my good and regular business elsewhere, perhaps to Las Vegas, I understand the weather is lovely this time of year. A loved one is incarcerated there (and will be there the next couple months )And staff has repeatedly "forgot" to bring him meals. Also my loved one came back from time on the yard and was having dehydration symptoms and couldn't even access adequate water from his housing. When my loved one first got there he was escorted to the "strip room"(before getting housed) and during the search there was human fecal matter in the room that no one had bothered to clean up. When he asked about the feces , he was simply told the area was "Fogged ", still no one was scheduled are appointed to sanitize and/or clean up measures. First time on the yard, he experienced a yard area with open pill medications, (bottles,etc) all over the yard , along with dirty underwear ,old socks with visible bodily fluids and prescription ointments, hydrocortisone creams ,and even visible blood borne pathogens that can cause disease . No wonder my loved one tested positive for Covid within the first couple of days he's being there :( I'm seriously bout to contact OSHA. read more

So I had to spend a Friday night here a few years back. It of course wasn't my first choice for accommodations, but sometimes you have to do what the man tells you. I actually found the staff here to be quite tolerant in their dealing with some of my fellow, boisterous roommates for the night, and I found my agreeable nature helped to get me through the night with little hassle from the staff. I think they even appreciated my humble being. One thing to note, upon check-in, you will need to sign over personal items such as all your jewelry (they'll even take it off for you!) wallet, belt, shoelaces, earrings, etc. They take care of all this for you, but it can become a bit of a hindrance if you're wearing, say, baggy jeans and tims. But whatever, they're looking after your stuff, right? And when they ask if you have any weapons, yep, that pocket knife counts, so just tell them about it and you will be fine. The food here is far from fine dining. Like Timbuktu-far (wherever that is.) They serve you a lunch meat sandwich of sorts; one slice of mystery meat, one slice of i-can't-believe-it's-cheese, on starting-to-stale bread. To wash it down there's the container of "fruit punch" that has the aftertaste of the coated-cardboard carton that it has probably been sitting in since Manson got locked up. This was the continental breakfast by the way, but hey, it's free, right? Finally after playing a bunch of games, like 200 questions, finger painting, and waiting in line to sign on the dotted line, and waiting in line to sign the dotted line, and waiting in line to sign the dotted line, and waiting in line to sign the dotted line, check out time is around noon, like most hotels. After you get all of your stuff back, and can finally put your belt back on and stop having to hold up your jeans, be careful when you finally step outside; it's really bright out there! read more

I went to visit my loved one here was being held for a hearing. I'm from out of state and there was a wreck on the way there and I was very very late. I figured I would try and if not oh well I would try that afternoon. I start by telling the lash at the front desk im so sorry I'm late and she was absolutely atrocious. There's a way to talk to people, especially people who come to visit there loved ones. My father has been incarcerated since I was 8 years old. This lady doesn't know what I went through this past week and to yell at me and give me dirty looks was not okay. I think she needs to find a new profession. She could have just said "I'm so sorry but you are too late" Thankfully she let me see him anyway which judging by the reviews this doesn't happen very much, but I would have appreciated some tact, some empathy, instead of being treated like the criminal. I will also be writing a review to securus. I tried to video chat with my dad when I was still out of state, paid $5, only for it not to work. They really should take this option down. Also out of 8 phones in that visiting room only one of them worked and my father couldn't even hear me and my family members. I get these people are criminals, but their family members aren't and shouldn't be treated as such. read more

Not bad. This place helped me learn a lesson. Gave me time to think...and listen to some crazy stories while I was in there. The ham and cheese sandwich was made w/ no love. It looked like the rest of the guys in there - unmotivated. It did not look nutritious, but it tasted better than it looked, it was okay. The pillow wasn't fluffy but the cot was good, springy, and the temperature was just right in the giant room. I hardly needed the thin blanket to stay warm. Oh, and the toilet was disgusting. No stalls, open for everyone you're bunking w/ to see. And you have to hunt down the toilet paper and find the last guy who used it. But then again, the point of this experience is to make sure you don't want to return. Great job on doing that! read more

I've been to lots of different jails, prisons, work camps etc. and the SD County Jail is by far the best experience I've had yet! When I was originially booked into the facility they had mixed up my reservation and no king size, non-smoking ocean views were available. They were very accomodating though and put me up in the luxury presidential suite at no extra charge. The staff were delightful and sooooo accomodating. I enjoyed mingling with all of the different guests at the faclity, I now have a black friend! Breakfast was a delightful eggs benedict with coutnry style bacon instead of Canadian, the lemon sauce was divine and the bloody mary I had just the righ amount of spicy. They had plenty of fun activities in the recreation yard and I built up quite and appetite playing basketball with my new friends. The dinner was sublime with a poached salmon bolognese that was fantastic. The mattresses were comfortable if a a little soft. They put a mint on my pillow when the turned downed the beds at night, what class. My only complaint was that I didn't get to stay long enough! read more

What Can I say, I mean my goodness you ask for a single, but you get a stuck in a double. I found the toilet to be uncomfortable and the mattress was sub par. Apparently like in Japan it is a shoes off type of place, but they provide you with slippers. After my initial delousing I was escorted to my suite by the bellhop in a nice sharp uniform. The Continental Breakfast was a little bit better than what you would get at a Motel 6. Luckily I did have a room with lovely view of the alley out back. I prefer the coziness of the local small town lockup without all the big city frills and gimmicks. I don't think I'll be back. read more

Good luck if you have a serious medical condition. The medical staff and the deputies are completely incompetent, ignorant, careless, and will refuse you life saving medications unless you have an outside party call the ACLU and City Attorney's office and threaten lawsuits. Then, good luck getting your medical records through the appropriate channels. They will prevent you from getting them if your records prove negligence and malpractice. read more

I stopped by in September to check this place out on a Friday night after a recommendation by John Law. This place is pretty interesting if you are sober, you get to watch all your fellow roommates for the evening come in and deal with their issues. We had some angry folks, some sad folks, some folks who were running from John Law for a long time, and some folks like me. Some folks were really nice as well, helping me navigate through the process of getting out. The staff was meh, depending on who you're talking too. Some are nice, some not too much. The lady at booking was nice, and as Brian N says, they do take care of all your belongings, they do a great job too! You also get to take a picture to add to their collection of visitors! Accommodations can vary depending on the room and your mates. Needless to say, once you get out of the first room, things do get better. The phone in the first room doesn't work too well either. If you hang out here long enough, you do get to experience their food services, which is like the worst sack lunch service ever! You get a sandwich with mystery meat, one slice of govt cheese, and some mayo spread on a piece of pretty lackluster white bread. You get either juice or a milk to wash it down and for dessert you get a piece of fruit and a really unhealthy cookie that tastes so saturated. Like most hotels/motels you normally check out by noon, so hopefully you're with a good cast of characters to kill the time, cause most likely you won't be sleeping. Don't hog the phone lines cause everyone is trying to make the same phone calls you are trying to make. When you get out, go grab something to eat and pat yourself on the back. You walked out with a new story to tell your grandkids! read more

I went to bail out family member and posted bail at 0705am. The people in admin and front clerk took their sweet ass time to release him. They're chit chat was more important than doing work or saving some tax dollar by release him/them before breakfast time. He was held for 9 hours total with excuse that they were running back check and was still in process for release! Check in at 0150 am in SD jail, posted bail at 0705am and got release til almost 4:30pm when process takes between 3 to max 6hrs. You can see ind of bad service they provide to public. read more

Fat ugly lady behind the glass window gave me my visitors pass and had me wait nearly an hour when come to find out she had my visit cancelled last minutes because I was only a few minutes late. Not one single person in the staff has been so strict about time like she felt the need to. Next thing I know she lets a man, who is late, go up to his visit when the visits had already started. When trying to speak with her she kept turning off her mic and saying I was arguing. I wasn't. Miss Ugly felt high and mighty when telling me she cancelled my visit last minute, told me to "have fun". Bad service, bad attitude, cold hearted, problematic, snitch. read more

Service was great, the team was really nice. Benches could use some upgrading in the holding cells, but get some tp for a pillow and you're A-OK. I had to wait forever and they moved me to many different rooms, but I met some very interesting guests along the way! My only complaint is the food, I'm at least 90% sure that bologna was not real. read more

I can't believe anybody would even give this place more than a star maybe two. The cells are dirty very unsanitary there's nowhere to wash your hands the toilets are beyond disgusting and reek of urine strongly the water fountain on the toilets mostly don't work so if you're dehydrated your EFT. The deputies don't give a crap about the people and it took me 26 hours just to get into a bed the cells are full overcrowded of people on benches and laying everywhere on the floor so the fact that you can't even get fluids to stay hydrated to me seems like cruel and unusual punishment that picture of the toilet they have on this site is a joke they are so disgusting so like I said whoever gives five four stars I think you guys work for the jail disgusting horrible experience thank God at least gave me a hep a shot because that place is riddled with Mersa and all kinds of nasty stuff. If you walk to go urinate you're stepping in piss and walking and tracking it all over the floor and then people are laying in it it is truly beyond disgusting and I can't believe that they can get away with this I think there should be a law suit and there should be something done because it is truly cruel and unusual punishment being unsanitary and not being able to have fluids to stay hydrated is not right read more

Having just returned from an absolutely wonderful holiday in jail, i write this review with a touch of withdrawal symtoms. The hotel was brilliant and will be even better next year after they finish the spa. The rooms were very well equipped and spacious even with my 50 new best friends in 1 room, the staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble, the food was absolutely magnificent which was one area i was a bit wary of as I like trying different restaurants to eat, but there was no need here as you were just spoilt for choice . Overall I would recommend to anyone and hopefully we will be back. read more

Wow, I must have gotten the royal treatment. I went in on a monday morning. Self surrender. Was treated nicely enough, Hell i broke the law dude! They ask all the questions that most people think are stupid like, Are you suicidal? Do you have any drugs on you? Are those prescription or reading glasses (Always say prescrition btw, because the print is so small on the phones that you cant read it.) I got searched for the 3rd time. I was put in a holding cell alone with a working phone so i got to sit on the phone as much as i liked. Made my bail calls and waited about 10 hrs for release. Never got anyone else in my cell with me. I did get moved to a cell with a phone that didnt work, but i had made my calls and it was ok. The food? Dude, its jail, What do you want Steak and Lobster!? Be glad you get anything. I know guys who have been in jail in TJ, The Phillipines, and Thailand. Trust me, jail in the US is not as bad is it could be. I had 2 sack lunches of bologna and cheese and vegetable sticks (Carrots and celery), and a drink. Some entertainment while i was there, two guys down from prison in the next cell were talking about prison. The crazy drunk or doped up guy who was trying to bust down the cell door. Yeah, likes thats going to happen! The deputies werent friendly.. But dude! ITS JAIL! What can you imagine they see and hear EVERYDAY! Overall, it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be. Do i want to go back? Oh HELL NO! On check out, the lady deputy who processed me was really cool, cold and definately had her personal gaurd up. But when she saw i was just a shmo who made a mistake and just wanted to be on my way she cooled out with the attitude and we actually had a short polite conversation. Bailed out and immediately went to a restaurant and bought a real meal to reaquaint my digestive track with real food. Bottom line. If youre driving, dont drink, if you drink, dont fight, if you fight, dont kill anyone or even almost kill them. And be glad your not a child sex criminal. My brother is in prison now (he put a child molester int eh hospital for 3 days and burned down his house) and he say the ChoMos get the shit beat out of them. DAILY! Not sure if i agree with that.
