LOVE THE TEAM... NOT THE MANAGEMENT! It's such a shame that the management is such a pain in the rear similar to the Anaheim Ducks and Angels. True, they give great giveaways here and there, but the theme nights absolutely suck most of the time. San Diego is an inclusive city with a variety of people, it's time to get with the times! I'm sick and tired of this team's marketing squad only appealing to old, crusty, prejudiced vets. I really wish the team would listen to the requests of the fans on social media. Well, been a season ticket holder since day 1. The experience and value for money at the arena has degraded so much that we are probably not renewing our seats next year. The prices for everything is outrageous and the choices for food is terrible. Our season ticket holder rep is never around. I am sad that this organization cares so little for its tried and true fans. We can find something lease to spend our entertainment dollars on next year. While Pechanga Arena is certainly in need of a facelift, it adds to the esthetic of a good ole' scrappy AHL hockey game. I've been to a handful of NHL games, but if I am being honest, I enjoy going to Gulls games over the Ducks or the NJ Devils. The size of the arena makes every seat feel close to the ice. I actually prefer terrace because I get a better view of the ice and the tickets are extremely reasonably priced - maximizing the number of games I can attended during the season. The rowdy crowd up there also adds to the excitement of the game. My boyfriend and I have tickets through mini-plan, allowing us to attend 10 games for $200 each. We get the same seats for each game and always make sure to attend the freebie nights! Since it is so affordable, we manage to squeeze in a few extra games without breaking the bank. So much fun! I had heard about the Gulls shortly after moving to San Diego but hadn't had a chance to attend a game until recently. All-in-all, it was a FANTASTIC time. Super exciting and affordable. The energy in the arena was outstanding and hockey is so much more engaging to watch live than on TV (at least for me). We took a Lyft to avoid dealing with parking. The best team in SD! When i first came to SD in 1990....my girl Cinna and I would come to gulls games at the sports arena...tickets were like $5 for the nosebleeds and we would sneak down to the glass.... gulls would score in a powerplay and that would earn the audience free food at Rally burger...when rally burger left point loma...we now earned a free order of wings at Hooters! Then the Gulls left us...and then I heard they were playing in escondido...and now they are back!!! I finally went to my first Gulls game since they returned. my friend was out of town and hooked me up with his season pass tickets...right on the glass!! no need to sneak down. What a game!!! The kids and I had a blast...unfortunately there were no fights to give us that extra oomph of entertainment...but it WAS Star Wars night so the themed fun in the tailgate and on the ice was quite spectacular! Thank you Gulls for bringing back those childhood memories from my yester-years. I remember frequenting all the home games we could fit in and I couldn't have been more thrilled to now be in my 30s with a youngster of my own to now experience the same adrenaline and joy of a live game. Even at his age of two, he loved every minute. We sat on the ice, so he got to experience his first game inches from all the action. Wall shoves, the chill of the ice, and the slight rush of air as a player raced by. My son laughed at every wall shove and shake, possible hockey player in the making, or at least fan. This mom can only hope! Huge thanks to the Gulls Goalie Anton, my son was in hog Heaven as he was one of the lucky ones to receive a signed hockey stick after the game. You must go to a game if you never been! It was our first time going and it was so much fun! Our tickets were only $25 each and we scored great seats (just six rows behind the glass). From start to finish, there was constant action and high energy within the stadium. We even got to see a hockey fight! If you do decide on going, purchase the tickets early for better pricing and availability. We had some friends try to join us last minute but the tickets doubled in price. The game was great. But e had issues with the bag checkers twice. She once checked my friend and told her the bag was too big then when she checked mine she said she was good to go. But the 2nd time around she said I cannot bring in my purse when it meet the size standard. Once we were walking to our seats three people were sitting in our seats gulls staffs and took one of our home opener towels. Once we got to enjoy the game, on our way out we got stopped. Our friend had his daughter on his shoulder while drinking and a orange shirt NON SECURITY snatched the beer from him hand and made him almost fall down the steps with his daughter. Approximately 8,500 people attended the festivities, which seems gearing up to be an anticipated upcoming season. During the eight year span that the West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) San Diego Gulls won five championships, fan attendance average was just over 6,000 people and closer to 7K during the banner years. Quite a bit of potential to expand the fan base, especially to capture local fair weather fans looking for any winning team to cheer for and spend bazillions of monies on new sports gear, among other goods. Today, many wore hockey jerseys and provided lots of energy and excitement to the arena, especially when the Gulls were announced as as the team name. There were corny sledgehammer swings at ice panels to reveal the new team logo before it was displayed on the vintage overhead screens and merchandisers opened up shop with their new digs. Initially, it was a bit confusing for me because there is a current San Diego Gulls hockey team playing out of Escondido as part of the Western States Hockey League (WSHL). At the end of the 2014-15 season, that team is changing their name to the Sabres, as in Sabretooth tigers, not to be confused with the National Hockey League (NHL) Buffalo Sabres. My apologies for the alphabet soup of acronyms. The 2015-2016 season San Diego Gulls will play in the newly formed American Hockey League (AHL) as an affiliate of the NHL Anaheim Ducks. A project of years to move a minor league team from the east coast and secure naming rights. I don't think event organizers were nearly as prepared to receive the amount of crowds that attended. Lines were long and they quickly ran out of informational packets that were handed out. Even the I-5 and I-8 freeways were backed up due to the event. Changing skates, sticks, or using whatever relevant hockey analogy applies, until this old multi-use venue gets a noticeable facelift and upgrades, it'll always be the San Diego Sports Arena in my mind, no matter what other business buys the naming rights and changes signage (much like Jack Murphy Stadium). I hope they pony up enough funds to ever build a state-of-the-art facility. The new hockey team and the fans, both old and new, all deserve a place they can be proud to call home ice, eh? This was my first time going to a hockey game. Not sure why I haven't gone before. The experience was awesome. The game is fast, physical and action packed. Seen hockey games on TV before but it doesn't even come close to watching it live. The venue being the Valley View Center Arena. For the locals, it will always be just the Sports Arena. The building is older but fits perfectly for the minor league San Diego Gulls. Parking is pretty steep at $15 but tickets for the games are cheap- $16 to $25 for decent seats. The way the seating is arranged. There isn't too many bad seats in the house. We sat in a corner upper level and we could see everything fine. The vendors, ticket takers, ushers were all upbeat and friendly that night. My friend and I even spotted some Gull girls walking around. They were really nice and took a picture with us. The game overall was again awesome to watch. The actual players are minor league players and are one step from being in the NHL. The Gulls are the minor league affiliate club for the Anaheim Ducks. So the quality of play is there. The home team did win 5-1 and there was also a little brawl near the end of the game. Can't wait to come again. I am hooked. Go Gulls! read more

Horrible customer service. The Gulls executives obviously could care less about their fans. It's an awful organization. If you have problems with tickets, they put it off onto AXS and let you deal with the mess - even though it's the ticket agency they use on their website, the Gulls don't get involved when their fans have ticket problems. We were out $169 for no fault of our own. Reached out a number of times to the Gulls for assistance and no one responded. We are done with the Gulls and waiting for a better hockey team to come to town. read more

I love how San Diego has its own Hockey Team.. the feeder team for the Anaheim Ducks, so the players you see here today will be up there tomorrow. Thats cool, but hurts at the same time... depending on how banged up the roster up there is depends on which players you will see down here. Sometimes, all their best players are up there - sometimes down here. Thats just the case with the farm/minor system with any pro team, but still.. I almost feel bad for the Gulls, though.. they play in an absolute dump (the sports arena, or whatever name they are going by this month). They play in front of fans who are monitored by the gestapo security guards who think they are wanna-be cops and enforce rules that are archaic in nature.. the security team for this venue sucks, and I hope that one day they can lead the push for a new arena to play in... if they did, I'd come to more than 1 game a season.. but for now, 1 game and then watch the rest on TV will work fine. I have been to a few San Diego Gulls games over the past year. The arena where they play (Valley View Casino Center) is meh. It definitely needs an update and better food options. Luckily they do offer craft beer, many of them are from local breweries. Getting in and out isn't too bad, especially if you park near the entrance. If you really don't want to deal with the hassle, I suggest ubering and avoiding the lot all together (parking is $20 per car). Since the arena is small there really isn't a bad seat in the house. Tickets range from approx $20-$60, depending on who is playing and where you want to sit. Since it is a smaller arena the women's bathroom lines don't get too long unlike some other stadiums. I get cold easily so I usually bring a jacket and gloves/hat. I have even seen a few people bring blankets. Come on a Friday night and get $2 Bud Lights! read more

First, I am a life-long hockey fan from the northeast. I grew up playing and watching all levels of hockey. Before moving to San Diego I was a Boston Bruins season ticket holder. When it comes to hockey, I know a bit about the sport and watching it at a professional level. We have been to several Gulls games and have previously enjoyed both the on-ice and off-ice product. However, our experience on Friday January 20 has made us consider whether we'll return to see the Gulls. It took us nearly an hour to get into the parking lot because there was only one person collecting money and directing cars at the gate. Once we found parking there was nearly a 30 minute wait to get into the arena due. Again, the delay seemed to be due to insufficient staffing and a poorly designed entry system. When we've gone to sold out Ducks games, we have never encountered such delays. By the time we got into the building we had missed the first period. We were also very hungry but the concession lines throughout the building were ridiculous and it took multiple trips to get enough food to feed our kids. As a result, we missed most of the second period. Worst of all, we weren't able to have more than one of the $2 beers before they cut the promotion off. Once again, inadequate staffing and poor systems seemed to cause the delays. I am a life-long hockey fan and would love to be a frequent visitor to Gulls games, but with such a poor off-ice experience I just don't think it's worth the aggravation or expense. By the way, I sent tweets to their main twitter feed and their head of business operations with no response. Way to watch your social media feeds Gulls. read more

The American Hockey League (AHL) is back in San Diego at the Valley View Sports Arena. My father-in-law is a big sports fan, and he was excited to check out a game when he came down to visit for Thanksgiving. What is great about the San Diego Gulls is they offer a high thrill game that keeps you engaged the entire time. Even when sitting in the upper section at Valley View, we were close enough to clearly see the whole game and get into the action with the fans seated around us. It doesn't hurt that they have San Diego Craft beer, so you can enjoy a Ballast Point Sculpin during the game! It is also a great family event with lots of kids there to cheer on the team. With reasonably priced tickets, I will definitely be back in the near future to check out another game. Most of the games are between Thursdays-Sundays until early April. read more

If the Gulls have a losing record, embarrass themselves on the ice, and bring dishonor to America's Finest City, I'm still starting with five stars because they offer professional hockey in San Diego (by the way, the team looks pretty good). How did the San Diego Gulls Hockey Club lose one star from me then? The opening night experience was dreadful. The parking lot is a mess, the parking lot attendants cause traffic jams, making many people late for the game, the concessions are crowded and understaffed, and the concession prices are ungodly expensive. The Gulls lose two stars for that. The ushers however are amazing: courteous, helpful, knowledgable, and unfailingly polite and eager to please. They earned the Gulls organization the 4th star back.
