The Baseline: For a hotel the rooms must be clean/comfortable, the amenities on the property must be usable/convenient, and the service on property must meet the needs for a comfortable stay. Property: Located in the Golden Triangle of La Jolla. This hotel is around restaurants and services most inclined to a business traveler and conference attendees. Rooms: The rooms are clean and well kept. The rooms also feel like that were rehabbed from a 80s-90s original build so some of the more modern plugs and placements are modified rather than feel like they were integrated into the design off the room. There is a good amount of space in the room but it has a very business/conference feel to it rather than vacation. Service: Staff were able to check us in and get us set up (11PM late check in), but it was a neutral interaction rather than a friendly one. The maid service is excellent.

I was here for a conference and have to say, the catered lunch was delicious! Kudos to the chef and team who put this menu together because everything was so tasty! I was very impressed with the buffet style lunch. I need to check if there's a restaurant on site. The conference room was spacious and the hotel lobby was nicely decorated. There was a parking garage only, no free guest parking.

Since my last review I've stayed here 4 more times. The exterior and common area are really nice and the M lounge is pretty solid. The rooms are dated and need some love. For the price I'd expect it to be nicer. Some of the beds are really uncomfortable, the sheets are worns and towels are old and sceatchy. The rooms remind me of an old Fairfield rather than the flagship Marriott. Being a titanium member I've come to expect a certain standard and this didn't hit the mark. The location being in one of the nicest areas of California and the price of the rooms being this high I'd except more. Being walking distant from the mall is nice and the restaurants there are really good. The bar and restaurant arlt the hotel are mediocre and way over priced.

Came here for a conference. The first thing my wife and I both said when we got out of the elevator on the fourth floor is it smelled like an "old hotel". The room is fairly tiny compared to other Marriott's we have been to. It feels like a small apartment and needs in-room renovation and updating. The rest of the hotel is not too bad. The pool area and the gym are nice. At night the pool has color changing lights and the gym has new and updated equipment. If I was coming down for vacation, I am not sure I'd stay here but will for conferences as necessary.

***This review is for this hotel's exterior, interior, and La Jolla Ballroom only*** I was at San Diego Marriott La Jolla for the WorldMark (WM) Annual Owners Meeting. My first time here at this hotel. I have been a WM owner for 24+ years and it was my very first time attending the WM Annual Owners Meeting in person. I've attended it virtually in the past, but it's not the same as being in person. Parking was not free, but we were given a $10 event parking validation ticket at check-in which was nice. Otherwise, it would have cost me $6 per hour or $30+ max. I would have still been okay to pay for it either way. Thank you Marriott and WorldMark! The exterior and interior of this hotel is quite simple in design and decor. Upon entry into the lobby, I immediately saw the sign to head over to the La Jolla Ballroom for the meeting. There were more signs to direct the way which was very helpful. I went up the escalator. I saw the check-in table. A really nice lady checked me in. I walked over to another table to grab a box lunch and hot tea prepared by the Marriott staff. The Marriott lady staff was very hospitable and pleasant. She directed me to one of the doors for me to enter through. Thank you mam for your excellent service! Btw, the Herb Organic Chicken sandwich was so delicious, pasta was okay, chocolate cookie was decent, and chips are just perfect. Well done Marriott!! The La Jolla Ballroom was huge. The meeting venue setup was clean and organized. The speakers were clearly heard. Lighting was on point. It was a very nice experience overall. Thank you Marriott and WorldMark staff for putting together the wonderful annual meeting. I wouldn't mind coming back here to stay for a few nights in the near future or just drop by the get the chicken sandwich.

We had an amazing two night stay here. The ladies at the check in were amazing and even went out of their way to find us a room with a beautiful view. Breakfast, which is an additional cost, was really good just a lil pricey. We will definitely be back if we need to be in the area again.

I'll keep it short: -Blonde receptionist acted as though she'd rather be anywhere else. Asked for our card, assuming for incidentals, checked bank statement and saw she charged us the full stay despite us booking ahead of time with card on file -$39 parking/day, the spots are smaller than compact so good luck getting in and out of your car -check in is 4Pm, check out is 11am, leaves little time to do anything but sleep. Would highly recommended staying at the Marriott Del Mar rather than the La Jolla location, close in proximity and in a more convenient location.

This is what's offered in the M Club... how sad

Overall this is a good hotel, easy access to and easy to get to La Jolla, SD, etc. Staff was all very friendly. The room was clean and well furnished. The hotel is a whole is pretty outdated but quite frankly, it didn't affect our experience staying here. Sabrina working in the M Lounge was incredibly sweet, attentive, and just an amazing person. I have to say, the worst part about this hotel is the food. Since we are Platinum owners, we are given free breakfast. On the weekends breakfast is at the restaurant and weekdays in the M Lounge. While dining in the restaurant we saw a menu with breakfast plates (eggs benedict, omelette, etc) so we asked if we can order from that but we were told the menu for free-breakfast-redemption-people like us was only for weekday M Lounge dining. That was fine since we were staying until Monday and would order then. But come Monday we were told the "menu ordering" is only in the restaurant. It doesn't seem like anyone knows what's left from right. And the food that is in the buffet in either place is horrendous. Bottled drinks, coffee, toast/bagels are fine. But the scrambled eggs, bacon, and potatoes are so bad. The eggs are powdery and dry. The potatoes are soggy, oily, and bland. the bacon is flimsy and chewy. I wouldn't recommend the breakfast "buffet" to anyone

Is it correct that the parking fee is $40 a day now? The previous answers with a similar question about parking are 6-7 years old. Thanks.

How much is onsite parking if you are a guest?

Depends on what type of guest. If you are staying the night, the others are correct on the self parking price. If you are a guest for an event it's usually a flat rate. I've seen as low as 5 for the evening but generally 8. They hand out vouchers… Read more

To get the food, simply ask the host at the check in desk, BEFORE 9:00AM!! They'll hand you a cup and you can go ahead and go down to the viewing area to do so, a small-ish area recessed into a walk way around the base of the elevators. Very pretty! I really appreciate how spacious my room was. We had not only a living room type area with a desk/spacious table and wet bar space but we also had a mini refrigerator and microwave complete with a Keurig. In the living room area, the sofa could be flipped out into a sofa bed. That was perfect for my little one. She loves having her own bed now. We had a sliding door closet complete with various types of hangers, a luggage trolley and an ironing board. The bedroom had a nice king size bed. I really appreciate how little clutter there was on the bedside tables. A lot of times I feel like there's too much going on on the bedside table whether it be a combination of remote controls, additional outlets kinda like a surge protector type doo hockey, and other extensions as well as an alarm clock, the room phone, a notepad, the Bible, all the different things. I'm glad that these bedside tables only had one of those items on 'em. One had the alarm clock and the other had the room phone. That was it. That is literally all it needed to be. The room is very simple and clean. I love the ottoman that fits so nicely just under the TV stand combo dresser. I appreciate the natural light that comes into the bedroom. There are blackout curtain curtains, but it really is such a beautiful view outside. I really enjoyed watching the sunrise on one of the mornings that I was here. I don't know about you, but bathrooms are a deal for me. I appreciate the fact that this bathroom is nice and clean and comes complete with items like, conditioner & body wash, fixed to the wall of the shower. I also can appreciate that there is both body lotion and hand wash affixed to the wall of the area nearest the sink. One thing that my daughter was not fond of was the fact that the holder for the toilet paper seems so far behind the actual toilet seat that when you need it, you have to kind of contort your body to be able to reach it. The tub is tiny and rather narrow. The fixtures are pretty dated, but at least they work and aren't in disrepair at all. I'm not fond of shower curtains because of the amount of gross bacteria and things that they carry but well, you don't always have a say in these matters. I like much much more water pressure than I was getting here but again, nothing wrong with it but for my own personal preference, I like some seriously strong pressure. Breakfast is complimentary and actually provides a nice spread: made to order omelettes, waffles, pancakes, eggs, sausage, cut fruit (cantaloupe and honey dew), whole fruit (bananas and apples), yogurt (yoplait: peach, raspberry or strawberry) coffee, tea, juice, cereals, whole or 2% milk, hot chocolate, breads, pastries (muffins, danishes), oatmeal, roasted potatoes, and possibly more. Clarissa was our FAVE dining assistant, sorry I'm not quite sure if her position or title. She is so sweet, helpful, efficient and even recognized us each time after only having helped us once during breakfast before. awesome staff: Clarissa (food service) Analyssa L. (Check in) Swimming pool situation in May 2026: The pool is indoor and heated. I believe it opens around 8 or 9am. It closes nightly at 10:00pm for the kiddos. It remains open til midnight for adults. There is a jacuzzi just outside the pool, like you actually have to go outside for it. It's nothing huge but it is nice to have that outlet away from the indoor pool craziness. The one HUGE problem that I had with the pool facilities were the lack of attention paid to the restrooms as well as the pool deck area. Sure there were plenty of signs to point out the wet surfaces and possible fall risk but considering the floor wasn't just a little wet, you'd think that some sort of other type of mats might be used, partly to increase traction but also partly to wick away water or absorb some of it. The restroom is nice because of the available showers, handicapped accessible as well. But again, I nearly fell and probably would've cracked my head open had there not been the whole ass sink for me to grab on to. Whew. Even worse, I was wearing tennis shoes when this fall almost happened. Sheesh!! (So this is the main reason for my one less star review, 4 instead of 5) Pls pay attention to the pool areas more! Towels are being unfortunately left all over except in the appropriate receptacles. Send an associate in here every once in a while. It can't hurt. In fact, it might help prevent an accident even!! Warning: parking is $46/night to self park (No other option really)

The room is really nice and it's spacious, but the bed is so uncomfortable that I woke up with a backache and neck ache. The parking is also super weird. They have a 3 story parking garage, but the way you enter is also the way you exit, so if you park on the 3rd floor and you're trying to drive out, there could be someone driving in and you guys are stuck staring at each other on who should move. Next, the parking structure has no elevator so you have to take the stairs down or up. That's never an issue, but I start thinking of my 81yr old mom and if she was with us then how would she be able to climb up or down. Also, the room I stayed at room 812 the toilet is super far from the toilet paper wall thing that holds the toilet paper. Unless you're Mr. Fantastic then I'm sure you have to get up and walk over to wipe your butt. I've never seen anything like that at any hotels or motels we have ever stayed at, so this was a bit weird to me. I didn't get to eat their "continental breakfast" because I was still getting ready, but my husband and my youngest son went to check it out. They said it was okay, the buffet was mediocre and the sausage didn't have color and it looked boiled. They both said the best food they cooked was the potatoes. They grabbed me a coffee and that was good, it was brewed fresh. They had cereal and pastries and some other items. Anyway, this is a very nice hotel, just a few things to look out for if you're gonna stay here. One cool thing is they gave us a $20 credit to use on our first day, we didn't need anything so we just got some bottled drinks in case we wanted it later or the next day.

There is a large lawn area where a reception can be held. We didn't get to try the pool or hot tub though. We also didn't get to try their gym as it's also provided to their guests. There is a breakfast and dinner restaurant inside the main building. Our room was on the first floor in the back area of the hotel. Oh and by the way, you have to pay parking to have a car parked here. Make sure you are aware of this fee. It's pretty expensive. The layout of the room was like any other hotel stay. Lots of light. Nice wood shutter blinds but some were broken. We asked for a king size bed but we got two queens. That's fine by me but it would be nice to get what we asked for. The two queen beds room was a little cramped but I think if it was a king bed room, there would be more space and hopefully a bigger table. We would ask to move to another room but we just stayed and tolerated it as we were not here for pleasure. Pillows are way too soft; even if I use 4, I am sinking. The table to use if you needed to eat or work on is small but there is plenty of outlets, and usb A and C plugs, too. The faucet and showerhead are old fixtures. It was hard showering as the water barely came out so you have to change the setting to the hard middle massage spray to get more water. It's time for an upgrade now. Towels were plenty and clean. There is a mini frig and microwave to use. They offer free coffee and tea but did not use. There are water bottles for purchase but you have to pay $2ea. First time we came in our room, there was a surprise for us. There were two bugs we found in the bathroom and by the frig. A good size, too. The same for the next two days. It's probably from all the tree and plants in the area but it must be coming in from somewhere. We made sure our luggage and bags were closed. The hotel and bed sheets were clean but you can tell this hotel is old. Time to update the interior of the rooms. This hotel would not be my first choice but I did love the surrounding area as there is plenty of places to eat walking distance. This is also close to the Westfield LaJolla mall. The price per night is not worth it for me but we didn't pay for it. [107R,2025]

I think there was popcorn ceiling and very textured walls. The spaces are big and very roomy for two people and would work well for 4 people. Rooms have a sofa bed, big TV, King bed, full kitchen, two bar chairs and table off kitchen, desk. The counter in the bath is big for storing all your toiletries. The toilet is tiny and "old skool" shortie McGhee vs. chair-height. And this space is tight with the shower. The pillows are not the best for neck support, but I have seen worse in hotels. The TP is good enough and at least not transparent. The included breakfast is "too legit to quit". Nice oatmeal with a ton of quality options for additions. All the usual suspects and bacon, quality eggs, fruit, yogurt etc. The horseshoe shaped dining space is very large which is needed for such a large property. There is a semi-busy road above the property, but we were located just beneath it and had no road noise, and I am not a sound sleeper. I would definitely ask for a top floor unit if you want less noise. My dad had a family with 3 young kids above him. Fortunately, there gazelle running was for a nominal duration. The manager Isabel went above and beyond to make me feel special and I truly did. All the staff were so kind from the moment we walked in and made us feel right at home. Shortly after getting to our room, Isabel sent a charcuterie board, chips with salsa and guac, and a sparkling non alcoholic cider to the room with a very sweet note. It was incredibly thoughtful and so appreciated. After that we all had a very relaxing time at the spa, and I had a great prenatal massage. As we were leaving the spa they gave me a little goodie bag as a congratulations which made my heart melt. The rooms were so cozy and clean and the beds were very comfy. We all woke up refreshed the next day and some of us even made it to yoga! I am so grateful to have had my babymoon here and grateful to Isabel for truly making it an experience I'll never forget. We loved it so much my friend bought my baby a little Lodge at Torrey Pines onesie from the gift shop! I have since had my baby and every time she wears it, it reminds me of our great weekend at the lodge. I now recommend staying here to all of our friends. Thanks for making a pregnant girl feel so special

Best birthday stay ever!!…read more When I first arrived, I was nervous because I haven't booked a place this fancy before and used Chase Travel to book for the first time. The staff immediately put me at ease and made me feel welcome. Lorenzo greeted me at the front desk and said happy birthday. He also gave me some free drink vouchers to use at the hotel restaurants and upgraded my room! The room was so big and clean and relaxing. My boyfriend has really bad insomnia but he said he actually slept great! I let him sleep in while I explored the hotel cafe and lounged on the balcony. There was a few parties and events going on that day (June 25th) but we couldn't hear a thing, at all. Our suite had a huge soaker tub and a huge shower that came in clutch, they even have complimentary bath salts and all the soaps! If you want more, they sell nice stuff in the gift shop, too. We also went to the cafe for breakfast burritos and coffee and both were a great way to start our day. Highly recommend staying here for a celebration. I felt like royalty and would love to come back. Shout out to Lorenzo and the team!

I booked a staycation on a Sunday, which happened to fall on Father's Day, using my Amex Platinum…read more Overall it turned into one of my favorite staycations I've had. With the Platinum perks, early check-in and late checkout are often available, but because it was a busy holiday weekend, they couldn't guarantee early check-in. They suggested coming in early and waiting by the pool until a room was available. Parking was easy: self-parking was around $46 per night with valet adding $10 more (roughly $56 total). Self-parking is only a short walk from the entrance so it wasn't inconvenient at all. Check-in itself was quick. The front desk staff provided a property map, and once I got to the room and dropped off my things, the whole resort honestly felt like walking into an oasis. The grounds are beautifully maintained and genuinely stunning. The pool area was enjoyable, but very busy, especially over the weekend. A note for future guests: lounge chairs go fast. I went around 4:30 PM on Sunday and again around 2 PM on Monday and most chairs were already taken. We were able to snag some on Monday, and it helped that the umbrellas can be adjusted for more sun or shade. The pool had a lively feel with families and kids, all well-behaved and enjoying themselves. There's also a nice jacuzzi and a pool bar where you can order food and drinks, plus a solid selection of craft beer. Dinner at Mustangs & Burros was a highlight. The burger was excellent, and the guacamole is a must-order starter. I also used my $100 Amex hotel credit here, which was a plus. The room itself was cute and comfortable, though fairly simple. It had a shower rather than a bathtub. The mattress was on the firmer side for my taste, and I would have appreciated complimentary bottled water in the room, but it was easy enough to have some delivered via Uber Eats. Breakfast at Greenfinch was the most underwhelming part of the stay. The Amex Platinum breakfast benefit covered up to $60 for two, but the quality didn't quite match the rest of the property experience. On the plus side, the resort grounds are incredible. The butterfly sanctuary, botanical garden, and wishing tree add a peaceful, unique touch to the property. I did wish there was a clearer setup for the wishing tree notes, but it was still a charming feature. Overall, the stay was excellent. The service was consistently friendly and efficient, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the property itself is beautiful. Despite a couple of small drawbacks, I would absolutely return. This was an ideal San Diego staycation. One note for future guests: make sure to carefully check your final bill at checkout. I was accidentally double-charged for dinner, charged for valet despite using self-parking, and billed for breakfast. They initially said everything had been adjusted, but I later noticed I had paid for self-parking on my credit card and then again at checkout. One of the restaurant charges also wasn't removed. The staff member I spoke with was very friendly and quick to help resolve it, but it was still a bit frustrating to leave thinking everything was settled, only to have to take additional time afterward to correct the billing issues.

First impression? This felt like the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach... just a little smaller. LOL…read more The property itself is beautiful in that classic coastal resort kind of way, with views of the golf course, the ocean in the distance, and a very relaxed La Jolla/Torrey Pines vibe. Our room views definitely helped make the stay feel more special, especially the main room with the large outdoor terrace. That patio space alone was a huge plus. That said, the hotel does feel a bit dated. The facilities, rooms, carpeting, and furniture could definitely use some updating. Getting around the property was also a little confusing with the north/south layout, and the signage could be better. For a resort this size, having only two operating elevators on each side was a bit of a pain, especially with no obvious stairway access. The hotel has great bones, but it does feel like it's due for a refresh. On the positive side, the rooms were clean, comfortable, and spacious. We also loved the relaxing scent in the hallway - incense, maybe? Whatever it was, it gave the place a calm, welcoming feel every time we came back to the room. The staff we interacted with, from valet to bell service, were all warm, friendly, and helpful. On its own, I'd probably rate the hotel a low 4 out of 5. Nice property, great location, clean rooms, but definitely showing its age. What made this a 5-star experience for us was Farida at the Front Desk. She was outstanding. My wife and I are both Hilton Diamond members, and Farida really showed what great loyalty recognition should look like. We had booked two rooms, and she was warm, helpful, proactive, and went above and beyond to get both rooms with coastal views - with the main room having that awesome 350-square-foot outdoor terrace. Kudos to Farida. Honestly, I wish more Hilton properties would take notes from her. She turned what could have been a good stay into a memorable one.

Review of La Valencia Hotel…read more I purchased a day pass here as someone who works in the hospitality industry and is always curious to experience new properties from a guest perspective--and La Valencia absolutely delivered. I arrived pretty early in the morning (optimistically expecting sunshine), but even with the typical coastal overcast, it didn't take away from the experience at all. In fact, I somehow ended up with the pool almost entirely to myself--in the middle of August, which felt like a hidden luxury. The setting is just beautiful. The views, the calm atmosphere, and the overall sense of escape made it easy to settle in and relax. I spent about five hours there and never felt rushed or overlooked. The staff, especially at the cabana bar, were fantastic--attentive, respectful, and genuinely pleasant to interact with. I ordered food and drinks throughout the day, and everything added to the ease and enjoyment of the experience. The only small downside is parking, which can be a bit tricky--but that's pretty standard for La Jolla. Overall, this was an incredible day experience and absolutely worth it. I'd do it again without hesitation.

I paid $500 for the room, arrived around 10 pm and had to check out by 11am, quick $500! There was a $45 resort fee, whatever that means. Still would love to know what that was for. Anyways, the bellhop guys were nice they gave me recommendations for where to eat and also helped carry my suitcase up to my room. The bedroom was small, really small and the view was of a back lot with dumpsters and the side of a building. Sure, the room was hip and funky and cool. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was small but functional. Listen the room was fine, but for $500...and this was a heavily discounted room because I booked through Hotel Tonight. Anyways, I walked the hotel at night and it was nice because I had the place to myself, the pool is really pretty at night, it's lit up, I recommend walking outside and having a seat on their comfy couches above the pool. In the morning I continued exploring the hotel and when I went to check out the dining room I was receiving unfriendly glances from the hostess or whoever she was. So much so that I stopped and asked if it was okay that I was looking around, to which she replied, "Well are you eating?" I said no and that I was staying here and just wanted to check out the view. I am a pretty average looking chick, was in work out clothes, maybe I didn't fit the high end clientele look and it seemed to bother her. Anyways, the people at the front desk upon check out weren't the friendliest either, seemed annoyed when I asked if they had change for the bellhop. The man at the concierge desk who I believe has a job of making sure everyone in the hotel is happy and having a grand time didn't even acknowledge. me the four or five times I walked past his desk. I felt unwelcome to be honest.

Hotel is in an area with a few walkable restaurants which is nice. Small gym. No microwave in rooms you have to go down the hall to the ice room. Rooms are dated but worst part was the noise. We were in room 237 & could hear every single footstep of the person above us. Not sure what this person was doing but they were pacing back and forth at all hours of the night. Also our toilet kept running. We were across from a supply closet which had people going in and out of it a lot. Not exactly peace and quiet. When we checked in we asked for 3rd floor but she said the only room was next to ice machine so it could get loud. I think I would have been better staying by the ice machine. It's also time for new pillows- they were awful. We stay here for work trips and it gets the job done.

Property is super dated as other folks mentioned, to the point where it almost looks dirty but I think that's just due to wear and tear. Had a pleasant experience with the staff. The courtyard and pool area was surprisingly nice but the gym was the size of a bedroom closet so don't plan on working out! A woman was stretching in the hallway! Overall not bad for a one night stay or such but wouldn't be my first choice.
