it's a solid hotel in a challenging but convenient location. the good? it's right off la jolla village road and the 5. get off the freeway, go west one light and then turn left and then immediately left into a small cul de sac, and there is the hotel. there is a large shopping center you can access through the back of the parking lot with your hotel key. there is a handel's ice cream stand that is right there for late-night sweets, as well as a rubio's tacos, a cava, a whole foods and CVS. across the street you have a ralph's shopping center and a chick fil a with a whole bunch of other things. so location is great. it's not too noisy being right next to the freeway, so that's also good. the downside? well, the outside of the buildings are more holiday inn than they are sheraton/hilton/marriott level to me. the rooms are fine and the beds and shower are definitely reflective of sheraton reputation, but the separate buildings that are all two stories tall have a more holiday inn vibe. didn't try the pool or the amenities, but the restaurant has decent food and seems to be always empty (sucks that the hotel has to lose money on this). the prices are hotel pricing, but the food is solid--no qualms there. the dining room is colder than a witch's tit, though--what is up with 60-63 degrees being the ambient temperature? rooms are noisy because of this design i mentioned. if you had a tall high rise then it would be a lot quieter without people constantly getting into and out of the building. parking is also a crappy lot that isn't well maintained in the back. imagine a typical LA street as far as condition and that's what you have. and they stick you for $30 per night for that. but honestly it's not a bad location and the service is good and polite. i just wish it were a tall high rise with a better parking lot--covered parking would be great. it's an open lot. would i come back? sure. would it be my first choice? no. i would head more into la jolla to find a high rise hotel with covered parking next time. but the location is great. read more

Got into two twin bed cozy room. Straight forward one open area with a big tv, a corner round table a long bench and good size cabinet with large drawers. A very small ref and no kitchen. Very simple and nothing fancy at all. Free breakfast and dinner. Mornings are scrambled eggs or with sausages, oatmeal, muffins, bagels, breads or pancakes, fresh fruits. Came here for quick three night business trip with my husband. The hotel was chosen by his work. The front of this hotel and in the middle of the hotel where the pool and hot tub were, looked very tropical with a lot of palm trees and plants but as you go in the back of the hotel, it's bare. There is a large lawn area where a reception can be held. We didn't get to try the pool or hot tub though. We also didn't get to try their gym as it's also provided to their guests. There is a breakfast and dinner restaurant inside the main building. Our room was on the first floor in the back area of the hotel. Oh and by the way, you have to pay parking to have a car parked here. Make sure you are aware of this fee. It's pretty expensive. The layout of the room was like any other hotel stay. Lots of light. Nice wood shutter blinds but some were broken. We asked for a king size bed but we got two queens. That's fine by me but it would be nice to get what we asked for. The two queen beds room was a little cramped but I think if it was a king bed room, there would be more space and hopefully a bigger table. We would ask to move to another room but we just stayed and tolerated it as we were not here for pleasure. Pillows are way too soft; even if I use 4, I am sinking. The table to use if you needed to eat or work on is small but there is plenty of outlets, and usb A and C plugs, too. The faucet and showerhead are old fixtures. It was hard showering as the water barely came out so you have to change the setting to the hard middle massage spray to get more water. It's time for an upgrade now. Towels were plenty and clean. There is a mini frig and microwave to use. They offer free coffee and tea but did not use. There are water bottles for purchase but you have to pay $2ea. First time we came in our room, there was a surprise for us. There were two bugs we found in the bathroom and by the frig. A good size, too. The same for the next two days. It's probably from all the tree and plants in the area but it must be coming in from somewhere. We made sure our luggage and bags were closed. The hotel and bed sheets were clean but you can tell this hotel is old. Time to update the interior of the rooms. This hotel would not be my first choice but I did love the surrounding area as there is plenty of places to eat walking distance. This is also close to the Westfield LaJolla mall. The hotel was clean and has easy access to the rooms. The only reason I am only giving 4 stars is because they did not have toilet paper in the bathroom and the phone to call the front desk was not working. There was nothing negative in this visit, however, the room cost is very pricey for this (basic) room and its' accommodations. We ended up at the Sheraton La Jolla due to needing an overnight-stay option that was close to the UCSD Hospital. The Sheraton La Jolla was a weekend stay for my wife and I. My wife picked it after reading the reviews and seeing that the price was right. This is an older property that is currently undergoing renovations in the lobby and some of their rooms. The hotel is close to UCSD. Our room was on the second floor of one of the buildings located in the back of the property by the lounge. The hotel grounds is nicely landscaped with a pond. Our room was a large king room. No real view of anything. A large screen TV was probably the best view for eyes to see. The room was nice and comfortable with the king bed and a nice sofa for relaxing. The bathroom was adequate with the shower. The Marriott special North Shampoo, conditioner and soap were provided in gymlike containers. A lounge is available for platinum and above members, and for those who pay for it. Soda and water were available for me to pick up whenever I wanted. Breakfast and an evening appetizer are served. The employee working in the lounge was nice. A gym is located on the property. The gym had some older treadmills and ellipticals. Dumbells are available if you want to lift weights. The gym was busy on the weekend we were there. It is an adequate gym. Overall, it is an okay property and a good stay. read more

I am incredibly disappointed with this hotel. The online photos are extremely misleading and look nothing like the actual property. Whoever took the marketing photos deserves an award because they managed to make this place look like a completely different hotel. The property is old, run-down, and desperately in need of renovation. There is a musty odor throughout the hallways, and our room has an overwhelming unpleasant smell that hits you as soon as you walk in. The furnishings and finishes look like they haven't been updated in decades. The pool area was especially disappointing. It was poorly maintained and felt uninviting, completely unlike what was advertised online. Had I known the true condition of this hotel, I never would have booked here. This has been one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I've had. If you're considering staying here, don't rely on the online photos--they do not accurately represent the current condition of the property. read more

Overall this hotel is nice. The landscape is gorgeous, and reminds me of Hawaii, the staff are professional, the rooms are clean, I had no issues when I asked for something to be delivered to the room, and there was always parking (although very tight in some spots). Best of all, they allow dogs up to 40 lbs (but charge a $100 fee.) Here are my grievances: I made some pre check-in requests (foam pillows and early check in , which were not accommodated until after asking again, in person.) Limited sound proofing the noise from the hall - I could hear people talking and slamming their doors early in the morning & this infuriated me. I could also hear children yelling outside and playful screaming. I did not enjoy this. They should confine guests with children to 1 building. There is only 1 jacuzzi that the entire property is expected to share but at night, there are guests who will hog it for hours at a time and sit there in talking groups of 4-6 people. You wait for them to leave and they never do. Other guests do not want to deal with that. This property should have at least 3 jacuzzis. The microwave in the room is very old and hard to use. If you park near the walkway, the sprinklers wet your car and leave water stains (no sign about that is posted.) And lastly, there is construction going on at the intersection you need to turn left at to get to the hotel. During week days it could take 10 minutes to get through the light. This was not shared with me before I arrived. I also asked if I could do late checkout, and they told me they could only offer me an extra 30 minutes without a charge- and I'm a Bonvoy member who's been here for 7 days... This is a nice place, but also no frills. There is no spa, no bell boys, you don't get a robe or slippers unless you request it for some reason, and you only get the big bottle amenities (no small take with you ones.) There is also no continental breakfast (only an option to add it to the cost of your stay.) If you choose to order individually, it will most likely be at least 40$ for 1 persons meal. I also felt they could've done something for my dog since they knew he was coming. They didn't offer anything for him (no dog bowl/ bed or treats.) For $100, this should've been offered. Other hotels have these things. I'm glad I brought my own. Overall I wouldn't mind staying here again if quiet could be guaranteed and no children were in rooms near mine. Since I gave it 5 stars on TripAdvisor, I have to give it 5 stars here... although this would typically come in my scale as a 4. That being said, the best hotel I've stayed at in a long time and spend about 75-100 nights a year in hotels. First off, this hotel seems to be well managed and upkept. My biggest complaint with similar hotels is the lack of maintenance and cleaning in the rooms (mildew/mold on grout) and sub par housekeeping. This came with a very clean room. I know many say its a dated hotel but the only thing dated in the common hallways... and the 90s vibe is kinda fun. The executive lounge here beats any Marriott in the area! Good food, complimentary drinks and super friendly staff. There are several buildings rather than one large one, which made it nice to be able to park close to your room. Hot tub was nice and clean. The pool towels are dispensed via your room key with a warning there is a tracker and $20 feet if you don't return it. I really don't think there are trackers in the towel, but I returned it to the correct location none less, which I am sure is the intent. All staff I encounter were great - especially in the executive lounge! read more

When I was a poor college student, I thought it would be such a treat to stay at this Sheraton. Well I finally got my chance a few weeks ago! I should've stuck with my regular Marriott though. This Sheraton needs some improvements as it lacks a lot of the modern amenities other Bonvoy properties have. The rooms are clearly dated. No balcony. Windows have plantation shutters, but no blackout curtains. Pillows were oddly clumpy. Most of the outlets in the room did not work. No nightlight or otherwise dimmable light. The placement of the HVAC's fan unit seemed to interfere with the thermostat that was controlling it. TV lacks streaming options. The coffee maker started spewing hot water as soon as it was plugged in, not sure how the last guest left it. Shower faucet wasn't the best as it lacked adjustability - important if you're showering small kids. Shower drain was clogged full of hair. There's nowhere to hang anything - a clothesline would be nice. Service was friendly. Housekeeping didn't get to my room until 4:30 PM. Lounge breakfast was disappointing. No bacon or sausage available. No juice options. The kids liked the pool. However, it was not the best for them as it goes from 4 feet deep to 8 feet deep in about 3 horizontal feet. No lifeguard, no manned towel service. There is a towel machine where you swipe your room key. The sign says there's pool service with a $2.50 service charge, but you have to use a phone to call it in - no staffing in the pool area at all. There was plenty of road construction out front. Additionally, there was renovation happening on other parts of the hotel, but it didn't impact our stay. Parking lot needs a resurface. Would definitely try to avoid. read more

No one answers the phone because there is only one person at the front desk managing everything without any help. When you call the hotel number you're redirected to a call center in the Philippines who has no idea what the hotel looks like, let alone where it is. I needed to get a hotel folio for a guest who stayed there, but I couldn't get it over the phone because I didn't pay for the stay directly (the reservation was done through a travel agency). I needed the folio to reconcile a charge on an expense report for the guest who stayed with us. I don't know why hotels make folios difficult to obtain; it's not like I can lift the last 4 digits of the credit card number on the receipt. I had to physically go to the hotel because I was told by the call center it would take up to 72 hours for me to get the folio as I didn't pay for the guest's room (!!!). Forget that! The person at the front desk was nice and gave me the folio, but I had to wait in line for 10 minutes just to get it. This place gets an extra star for her and her effort. Otherwise, I'd rather book our guests at a different hotel. read more

If the La Jolla location represents the standard for all Sheratons, then I need to start considering them for hotel stays more often. My organization needed group pricing for a one day stay in multiple rooms, and management kindly offered us a generous discount a month in advance. During check in, the desk attendants gave a full rundown of all the amenities their hotel offered as well as clear instructions on how to navigate through the halls. They seemed eager to help throughout my time talking with them. The entirety of the hotel had been well-kept throughout my stay. I found their courtyard/pool area particularly neat; maybe my touristy side is showing, but their beach themed design looked pretty. To my understanding, the rooms were renovated several months ago and I'm assuming they made some major improvements because I enjoyed my one night here. My only complaint is that the toilet seemed to be leaking small amounts of water at the base. I didn't notice it overnight and it accumulated over the floor when I visited the restroom the next morning. Covering the floor with a shower towel was enough to avoid getting wet. Something about this hotel screams business instead of vacation. I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but it's a great place to stay for its convenient location or if you're passing through for a couple days. read more

Recently stayed here for a corporate trip. I found this hotel to be a bit out dated. They have noticeably made some upgrades but the property still looks as if it's hey day was sometime in the 70s. The staff were very nice and professional. The property and the rooms were clean. The grounds gave off more of the feeling of an old apartment complex. It felt like a labyrinth with its different buildings that were not conveniently connected to one another. For example, the building I stayed in didn't have an elevator so I had to walk to the next building over which did have an elevator and then double back to the actual building and room that I was staying in. I had to do this because I had a large suitcase and my building only had stairs to get up and down from the 1st to 2nd floor. There's plenty of self parking but you have to be strategic as to whether you park towards the front or the back of the property based on where your room is located. Otherwise, you'll be met with an intricate maze that you'll have to navigate to get back to your room. Close to lots of shops, restaurants and the UCSD campus. If you need something safe and economical then this is the place for you. Otherwise, if you're looking for something more streamlined and modern then you may want to look elsewhere. read more

This Marriott is ideal in location to be close to La Jolla, and also close freeway access to anywhere in San Diego. The manager Janay and her staff acknowledged our special 70th bday celebration and could not have been more pleasant and customer oriented! When we come to San Diego again, this is where we will go. Very interesting location. When I travel solo I like to have interior hallways connected to the check in area... this location had conference rooms, ample lobby seating, a bar/ restaurant connected to the lobby. But to get to the rooms the buildings are all exterior to the check in area. A handful of double level buildings surround a tropical central area. There is a heated pool and jacuzzi which has a self serve pool towel service area. The tropical feel includes an abundance of palm trees and lush plants. Buildings, the pool and the gym are all key card access only. The platinum lounge is next to the gym. Loved the gym! Multiple treadmills, stair climbing, elliptical, stationary bikes - free weights, yoga mats, weight machine, a couple of benches and clean towels. The bar/restaurant closes kinda early with last call happening 15-30 minutes before they close. The food was just ok. Cocktails were well priced and the bartenders poured them very well. There is a gate access to the neighboring shopping center that has a lot more restaurants and a CVS. BJs is also close by (walkable distance) and stays open until midnight. Beds were comfortable and lots of pillows!!! read more

I chose this business because it was near my business meeting /mini condense for work. This has a GREAT LOCATION. Across the street/down the street is a plaza with a Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, various food places just minutes away walking which can be great for families or people that want to buy snacks or get food nearby. 1.5 miles away by car 6 minutes or so is an outside shopping center $7-10 Uber ride where you have some shopping and retail, dessert and ice cream places, lunch, dinner, happy hours etc. La Jolla village or UTC area. This was a beautiful area to walk around, eat, lounge, and catch some sun. My bed here was comfy, room had a great view of the pool and palm trees. You have a stair or elevator option to reach your room. I do like that the mini fridge is clear, the vanity and bathroom is nice, and I love the full size hand soap and lotion. They even provide an umbrella for you in case it rains. My only complaint is that the walls are thin- I heard people leaving their rooms and walking in the hallways all through the night, doors clicking, and the A/C clicking on and off all night- which sucks as a light sleeper. Obviously you can tell this is an older property due to the sofa design and material but all in all nice room size and the A/C works really well. Special thanks to Joe for making me feel welcomed, providing me with extra water, bandaids, a restaurant list, and cheerful service. It's most appreciated. The property is clean and a very nice intimate relaxing vibe. Great areas to catch sun and lounge, walk around, check out their gardens, koi fish pond, or jacuzzi and pool. A great 2-day stay for work. I appreciate the ample seating at the pool, nice size jacuzzi, and the pool had great dept. NOT KID FRIENDLY. Your long term guest Shaula has been harassing people around and you're not doing anything about it. Met this lady in the club lounge during dinner time. She was there for almost an hour roaming around acting like she owns the place. We were the last table in there with two toddlers. Around 6 all other tables had left, my child spilled a cup of tea and almost burned himself. The employee was helping cleaning up the floor, all of the sudden Shaula became very aggressive asking why the employee is cleaning the floor. They had some back and forth I thought oh maybe they're relatives or friends. Didn't say anything. All of sudden this lady became hostile while walking past me and said "people should control their kids in public" "don't let your child throw everything on the floor, control them". I said excuse me? Then the yelling started. I asked her to be respectful then she started trash talking the kids. Big mistake. She probably thinks we don't speak English or we're deaf. When I talked to your club lounge employee and front desk employee they didn't seem surprised about what she did. I'm not the first one who complained about her. Do something before ruining another family's trip. read more

3.5 I arrived in the evening to this property. The entrance to the lobby was promising. The front desk person may have not had a nice day as the vibe I got wasn't welcoming at all. Anyway, I was looking for a little snack since it was late and the only thing avail was on a side wall. ( photo) LOL I proceeded to go to my room. There were food trays in the hall, ( photo) unfortunately when I woke up around 10am they were all still there! (That's surely an invite for critters!) Its One Shiton (Sheraton) Tue! I have stayed at Marriott's all around the world, and my one night stay here was the most fukd up experience in my life. The room was fine, and the staff was friendly. But the issues I had with my electronic key are things no traveler should deal with. First of all, I am a Bonvoy Silver member, so I can check in via the mobile app and get an electronic key. However, when I called the front desk to ask why I had not received my electronic key, they replied that my credit card was rejected. I asked why they didn't tell me beforehand, and there was no reply. So I had to go to the front desk that is hidden by the restaurant to give them another card. After I gave them another card, my key would not open the bldg door by my room: WTF?!?!?!?!?! I called the front desk again and they said they had to reset the key. I waited and the key still would not work. Someone let me in the bldg and lo snd behold, the key opened my room! Nonetheless, after a visit to the pool, my key would not open the bldg door again. So I entered the downstairs door that opened, walked outside the opposite end of the bldg, went to the 2nd floor, and opened the door and walked to the other side of the bldg to my room: Stooooopid!!!!! Later on before I grabbed a Lyft, I got a manual key so I would not have to deal with this bullshit again. There were some little things I didn't care for also. For example, you have to put your phone right up against the sensors to open doors, get a towel, et al. What kind of sense does that make, when people's phones are one of the dirtiest things on the planet?! (I wipe my phone down 2x a day). Secondarily, I could not turn the fan off in my room and it is loud. It was hard to get a good night's sleep. All in all, the worst stay at a hotel I have ever had. The rooms are old and subpar, but that doesn't even matter when all night long doors are slamming in the hallway people smoking in the hallway, I can smell smoke in my room And I ordered dinner to my room because I had my dog and I didn't want to leave in the food was horrific I had macadamia crusted fish and it was like shoe leather. I was business tripping from LA to Irvine to San Diego and decided that if my company allowed me to stay at a more upscale location why not? I pulled in a little on the later side but nothing too crazy and pulled into their parking lot and then walked in with my luggage to check in. They had guest check-in parking spots relatively close to the entrance but after a long drive I really just wanted to check in ASAP and just plop down. The night clerk was very patient with the guest ahead of me who seemed to have a ton of questions. I realized that I probably should have just left my luggage in the car-it was taking a while but when it was my turn my check-in went relatively quickly. My company was paying for everything so I didn't care about the parking fee but man, if I was there on my own dime. On top of that their restaurant closed relatively early and no room service either. Their tiny convenience counter didn't have more than granola bars. I just took my key card and schlepped back to my car, debating whether I was more hungry than tired. I drove around the corner to where my room was and it was decently sized with an obstructed view of their pool area which must be beautiful in the daytime but in the evening wasn't really a draw, it felt more humid though. I cranked the AC up. I ended up just turning in and then just checked out the next morning. Pretty uneventful but not the most positive. read more

Love the tropical vibe at the hotel. I had a very smooth check-in - agent was very polite and professional. Parking is $25 but there is plenty of free parking on the street if u don't mind walking a bit. I got upgraded to a lovely garden view room, with a small private patio. Bed was comfortable and plenty of space. Bathroom was fine; a little outdated but served its purpose. Doors are loud when other guests enter/leave rooms. Hope u don't have heavy walkers above u - i can hear them walking around. Sheraton Club Room was nice for evening glass of wine - had cheese, hummus/crackers, cookies & quesadillas available. Breakfast is pretty slim but had the basics. But I would definitely return - good value with nice staff and comfy room read more

But it is pretty corporate; it feels like the kind of place I'd take my sales team after a very good but not stellar quarter and they would be happy. It's not the place where you luxuriate on a vacation but it could be a good base for an active vacation. This is my favorite hotel in La Jolla and often has the best prices around. I've stayed here probably around 4 times, mostly for just 1 night at a time. There is a lot of reasons I love staying here, including: - Booking through the Sheraton App, I often get a Member Rate and room - which includes garden and pool views. - There is often street parking near the entrance, but outside of the gate - so I have never paid for parking. - The rooms are large and beds are very comfortable. It's like a mini studio. - The pool is never packed, especially during COVID - so we get the place to ourselves a lot. I have not been to the hot tub, but they have one. -The mall is about 100-200 ft away with great restaurants, shops, grocery stores and shopping. There is also a nearby smaller business plaza with restaurants and a liquor store. Lots to eat or order within walking distance. - The hotel is surrounded by Palm trees and tropical flowers, giving it a resort vibe. - Last but not least, best value for the area. I love this place and stay here on my trips, because I know exactly what I am getting and love the service. read more

This hotel is lovely. The room was very clean, recently updated, quiet, and very close to the hub of La Jolla without all of the noise. The grounds are stunning, very lush and relaxing. We enjoyed our stay and will return! read more

I enjoyed my short stay here. I was pleasantly surprised that my Suite Night awards were accepted and I got upgraded to a suite and my Your24 benefit being an elite member was approved -- I was able to check in at 8PM and check out at 8PM the next night. Christy promptly welcomed me with a warm smile and made the check-in and out process enjoyable. Parking is $25, but there is street parking right in front of the hotel if you don't mind a short walk. The room was clean and spacious. It included a large TV, microwave, fridge, and two free bottles of Aquafina (my favorite!). The room was quiet and I could not hear any sounds from outside. The pool is clean and the jacuzzi is hot -- there is a warning that it can be upwards of 104 degrees! The executive lounge is accessible 24/7 if you're a Platinum Elite member and up and includes complimentary hot breakfast. There are also free snacks and an assortment of beverages to choose from, including sodas and bottles of Aquafina. The gym is also 24/7. Unprofessional, the front desk person de-magnitized my keys without my consent for someone on file as a "visitor." Fortunately, he was not a visitor and actually the additional person meant to stay in the room. Her name is Maggie and works the night shift. She said that the notes were unclear and she did not know my additional guest was actually staying there. However, why would you de-magnitize my keys for someone else you are unsure is on file?? Also, why wasn't the second person listed on file when I shared his name when I initially checked in and put incidentials. This level of sloppiness is unacceptable for how much money is paid. Especially as a gold elite member. Maggie, you're tacky, the system is tacky, and the worker I checked in with earlier is tacky. I do not recommend you stay here, save your money, time, and energy. read more

6:30 am front desk manager could not have been more disrespectful and rude. Visiting with my infant grandson and veteran son in law and we were almost scolded for asking where to get breakfast. I ordered breakfast for my grandson from the coffee bar and sat in the lobby and fed him, so we got a full slice of life in the early morning at the hotel.... We weren't the only ones she treated that way. Father came in from another room and angrily dropped a plastic cup full of drugs that his ten year old SON had found in the room fridge.... No responsibility was taken at all. Then, the SKETCHIEST event during our visit, male client came and paid all in cash...like 1000.00 for his stay. Interesting Polynesian vibe here... but I did not feel safe, respected, or appreciated. And here's the thing, I'm a very loving and generous person. I tip heavy, and I honor labor, especially those who do the. Real. Work. This woman did not reciprocate our demeanor. Her job was to scold.... read more

While staying a couple of nights in LaJolla, we selected this hotel to stay at. Checking in was great! The lady who checked me in was very helpful and pleasant. She recognized my level of Bonvoy membership, even though I booked through a third-party. I found this important because lately the front desk folks at Marriotts have been curt and not providing any of the Bonvoy perks that I'm entitled too, whether I book through Marriott or a third-party, so I've given up booking through Marriott to collect points that are so much more valuable from American Airlines Hotels booking site. The property is nicely laid out - quite large, you need to park close to your room, as the rooms and buildings are stretched out over several acres. There's a large pool in the center courtyard, with a hot tub and water fall with a stream that rolls thru the middle. There's a gym and concierge lounge off the middle courtyard too. The staff was all very helpful and friendly. The concierge attendant was very helpful, seeing me trying to carry to a couple cups of coffee and a plate of food, he offered me a drink carrier. They have evening snacks and breakfast and their breakfast is legit, good food ;real eggs and incredible bacon! Housekeeping was helpful and did a good job keeping up with the room. Bed was comfy and the TV worked great. Shower temp was great, so was the drain in the shower. The only issue was the pool and hot tub... I wanted to use it, but the scum line in the pool clearly hadn't been cleaned in a long time, as it was stained dark and there was junk floating in the pool. Same with the hot tub, it really needed to be skimmed. But those small issues aside, our stay here was great! read more
