This iconic hotel was built in 1926. It has been recently renovated. It's beautiful and on the water. We had breakfast there today. Eggs Benedict and cappuccino on the outside deck overlooking the ocean. Perfect day. Great service in a beautiful surrounding.

This quaint hotel in the middle of La Jolla reminds me of the little beautiful places you would find in Paris, London, Barcelona. The only exception is those places might not have an exquisite ocean view. This does, from our villa number 11 we opened our blinds and there was the beautiful park and the ocean and you could hear the seals being seals. Everyone we encountered staff wise, including that beautiful concierge that left us an anniversary bottle of bubbly we can't thank enough, right down to the valet folks who had the car when we needed. It grabbed our luggage from our room. This hotel has everything you could help for in terms of bar, patio, dining, fantastic pool, and other great decks to enjoy... Plus incredibly intimate and sexy.. to all the staff thank you for making our 31st anniversary very special

A beautiful day for lunch at La Valencia on the deck looking at the Ocean --it didn't almost happen because when we arrived around 1:30 the hostess said we had to have drinks and food inside because we didn't think we wanted a full lunch. We went into bar area and I chatted with bar tender who "got it." I explained we wanted outside and couldn't guarantee we'd go the whole 9 yards.... Great guy took us outside and waited on us. Turns out cocktails for both of us an app and a shared large main. Loved it and turns out he was handsomely tipped for his attention, attitude and service. Food excellent. This is a classic hotel and restaurant in a classic town. LaJolla is hard to beat! Go!

I never have a bad day at la Valencia. Perfect spot for a girls getaway. I love the pool, restaurants, location and it's super dog friendly.

La Valencia was perfect for our daughter's wedding. The overall vibe was exactly what we were looking for - personal, classy, vintage, and comfortable. The venue was the perfect size for our 60-person wedding, and so beautiful with the ocean backdrop and landscape. There are lots of amazing spots for photography. From the moment we toured the venue, to planning details along the way, to the big day, communication was excellent. The hotel suggested vendors for our wedding that made vendor selection easy, and all of them were equally fantastic. The service the entire weekend was outstanding. The bridal suite was a fantastic space for the girls to get ready, made even better by the mimosas and treats the staff brought up. The team also went above and beyond for our family, even using the hotel golf carts to shuttle the grandparents to nearby restaurants so they wouldn't have to walk far. The food at the wedding was top-notch, with many guests raving about the meal. I was impressed with the number of wait staff who made sure the evening went smoothly. Overall, it was an incredible event, and we highly recommend La Valencia hotel.

Leaving Chicago this morning (at1°) and landing in San Diego (at 68°) was a G-D send! This last December / January has been (let's say) difficult in Chicago, weather wise. The La Valencia Hotel right on the Pacific Ocean, for me is like being in paradise. The smell of salt water plus the sensible weather here at La Valencia Hotel is just what the doctor ordered. Their excellent restaurant here called La Sala is making pretty terrific food. Staying here, of course we ate several meals at La Sala, and all of these meals were "right on". I had breakfast, lunch and dinners here and all of these meals were spot on. I could not write this review without shouting out how wonderful the staff was here at the La Valencia Hotel, in particular the La Sala crew, who gave us such terrific service, with a "smile"! Every aspect of these young folks made you feel like it was their privilege to give you such an amazing experience at their restaurant. Thank you all.

Very nice stay for a wedding. Elegant ambiance, excellent interior design and customer service. Beautiful ocean views . The cuisine was delicious.

Beautiful hotel! Nice restaurant and classic cocktail bar. The #10 Villa was so very nice. The hotel staff are very helpful and work hard to make the experience memorable and enjoyable. It's a wonderful hotel and one I highly recommend when staying in La Jolla.

This hotel is super nice! Especially being one of the older hotels in La Jolla they do maintain it very well. Staff were sweet from the valet boys to the front desk we have no complaints. It definitely is on the pricier side but makes sense because again LOCATION. You're on the shore of La Jolla. It was comfy/rainy when we were there so we weren't able to fully enjoy the pool area but it looked nice I'm sure it's lovely during warmer days. I do wish there was better parking like a garage. You have to get your car valet or find parking somewhere.

I had drinks with my girlfriends at La Valencia. The view was STUNNING. Beautiful ambiance especially at this time of year when it's a little chilly. We were worried being inside would hamper our chances of a nice view but this bar did not disappoint! Not pictured is the very talented musician they had for live music and the sound was not too loud we can have conversations but also enjoy the musical ambiance. 10/10 for this window side table. Drinks did not disappoint. They're on the pricier side ~18-20 per drink but that's to be expected with this view. The drinks were solid in alcohol content and beautiful mixed. The mixologist might have done our favourite table side smoked old fashion and espresso martinis. Had to get a second round! All in all happy we stumbled upon this gem

My friend and I came in here randomly last week around sunset. We got a table on the balcony and ordered drinks just before the sun went down. It was absolutely breathtaking! The drinks were good, the food was great (especially the hamachi) and our server was friendly. There was even a pianist playing modern songs. This place has a very romantic vibe. I plan to come back!

The front desk staff was friendly and efficient when checking in. Rooms are a little small but for one person who wasn't in the room much it was fine. There is a coffee maker and mini fridge in the room. The bathroom is decent size with a walk-in shower. I thought the shower head was a little tall, but I am also only 5"2. The workout room was in the basement in a small room with no ventilation. We had to keep the door open to have some air come in. They have breakfast in a cute room on the 2nd floor with typical hotel breakfast food. Since the weather was nice the windows were open to give the room a breezy feel. Parking is in a public garage across the street. You pay $25 through an app and use a QR code to enter/exit. The scanner repeatedly failed. We had to get out of the car multiple times on a steep underground incline just to get the gate to open. We kept showing the QR code on our phones and nothing. We tried again and again. This would take 5 minutes every item trying to enter and exit. Finally it would respond. And the people in front of us and behind had the same problem Around 9 PM on a Saturday night (Valentine's Day) the garage gates were closed. The hotel staff should've warned us that parking closes early around here. Several hotel guests were standing outside with us , frustrated and confused. We called and the hotel told us to use an alternate entrance on another street. Once inside there was no way to find your car. You're on a different level having entered in a completely different side and at night. It took 17 minutes walking level to level to find our car. My husband is a Type 1 diabetic, so this stress and exertion became very stressful since his blood sugar started to drop. The microwave in our room also died mid-use, and the hotel had no replacement, which is odd since being familiar with hotel hospitality, they usually have back up coffee maker, microwaves, clocks, etc. We were in the area to visit our kid in college not for VD. We got frozen dinners at pavilions to have meal in our room since restaurants were booked. We had to heat our dinners upstairs in the breakfast area. Breakfast the next morning was awful -- mushy powdered eggs (they melted in your mouth like hot mush), strange bacon, warm milk, and soggy potatoes. Management offered a $17 adjustment, which does not cover the $25 parking fee. This dismissive and insulting given the extent of the all the things that went wrong. The front desk staff Hayley and Josh were friendly and professional. Not worth the price. We won't return.

I love that the grounds are secure and you can allow your children to go into the courtyard area and play the provided games with peace of mind- knowing that they'll be safe. They provide tons of outdoor seating options and grills for tenants, which makes cooking a breeze. In order to enter from the beach/boardwalk, you must have a room key to enter the premises- another awesome perk. This keeps all the riff-raft out of the area. &At night, they also require a room key to enter through the front of the building- which is a newer feature, and much appreciated. You can leave your beach toys & chairs outside your room without worrying about someone coming to steal it. We have locked our bikes up downstairs in the courtyard area & nobody messes with them. This is such a great place to stay & an amazing tradition that our family has. We look forward to our visit every May!

Overall, it was a good experience, but a few things didn't quite match our expectations. Upon arrival, the building wasn't as "grand" as it appears in the promotional videos--it has more of a homey, slightly outdated feel, though still pleasant. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, even offering a golf cart service on a first-come, first-served basis for late-night rides back to the hotel, which was a nice touch. Our room was nice, but not exactly what we expected. We had requested a king ocean-view room--the view was absolutely amazing--but the bed was definitely closer to a queen size. La Jolla is magical in itself, but Scripps feels special. From the homey décor with the beachside theme, to the quaint terrace where you can read and sip a beverage with the ocean in your sightline. The small stuff that wasn't worth sweating: outlets are rather oddly placed in the room (most often hidden behind furniture in such a way that it was hard or impossible to plug anything in; we used the washroom outlet most) and if you're in a first floor unit (we were in 5), you can definitely hear your upstairs neighbours walking about. All this doesn't negate the positives for me. Brooke is the most wonderful concierge and goes out of her way to accommodate for her guests (personal text to notify that the room was ready early, luggage storage solution since our flight wasn't until the evening). The sweet ladies on the hotel staff were also incredibly kind and friendly. It's always so nice to get a smile back. I hope I get to stay here again, especially for summer! Thanks so much, Scripps!

The construction is bothersome but I was never bothered by the sounds. Progress comes with inconveniences so it didn't bother me personally. Here's why I lowered the rating. The elevator is HORRIBLE. Something should be done in the massive renovation and it was completely unreliable. Especially, since there's only one carrying luggage down the stairwells is risky at best. The brand new lighting in the bathroom was a big fail! The lights are mounted behind the mirror and my wife could barely see because it's so dim. I have to agree even finding my contacts was difficult with these dim lighting. Fix those two things and you would have a five rating.

I wish now I would have read all the reviews for this hotel before committing and staying here…read more We felt like we should stay here since our daughter's wedding was on the rooftop here by wedgewood weddings. Wedgewood has nothing to do with the actual hotel and their policies. I will never stay here again. Their lack of care and concern for their guests is obvious. They run a factory here of people coming for weddings so they are making bank from all these guests and don't care in the least about pleasing the customers or any concerns the guests have. I tried reaching out and they put the blame on the other guest for the smoke stench and said we should've reached out so they could help. We did call the front desk to complain but no one answered the phone, Then we went to front desk to talk & the person working responded with an OK. Nothing they could do. We opted to stay here since it was so convenient with the wedding venue on the rooftop. We were not told about all the construction until after we signed the contract. That probably would have deterred us from signing. The day of the wedding as the wedding party was getting ready, they were jack hammering on the sixth floor. The sixth floor is where we were all staying because the rooftop venue is on the sixth floor and it made it convenient for family and friends to all be together close to the venue. The construction noise was so horrible not to mention the stench of smoke coming into the rooms from either the workers or other guests staying at the hotel. The elevator was slow as snails. We had elderly people in our group and some had to climb the stairs just to make it to the wedding because the elevator took over 20 minutes waiting for it. Ridiculous. If you had a room with an ocean view, you were lucky because you didn't feel claustrophobic, and the views were good. If you choose a basic room, there are no chairs, just the bed and the TV on a stand. There is no bar soap for your hands in the toilet area. They said we needed to use the liquid pump soap in the shower when we asked for hand soap. No lotion either. If you want ice for your ice bucket, you need to go to the front desk and they have to go get it for you. Good luck because there was always a line of people for the one employee working so you would have to wait. The lighting in all the rooms was horrible. Big fail there. Luckily, they had the parakeet café downstairs which had coffee and pastries, a few yogurt items, and smoothies. For a full breakfast, you would have to go to a restaurant in the village up the street, but the walk is a very steep hill in case you are with anybody that has a problem with that. There are no vending machines in this hotel if you wanted something else to drink other than water. They put two small bottled waters in the room that are five dollars each. No sodas at the cafe either. The seals start barking by around 4 am- not hotel fault but just be warned. No sleep if u have an oceanfront/view room. So the wedding venue is what saved us. The wedding was perfect. The hotel was a fail. And if you call or write to complain and express your concerns they will just give you an apology and dismiss you. They don't care.
