On our initial tour of the preschool, I immediately felt the warmth of the community and their genuine interest in understanding what our family was looking for. Coming from another school, we knew which areas had felt lacking for our daughter. When we voiced those concerns, the preschool director was incredibly reassuring and made us feel that the school truly partners with families--meeting each child where they are rather than trying to fit every child into the same box. After two years in the preschool, we saw those words come to life. In the midst of a public school system that seems bent on pushing parents out of the raising of their own children, SJCS is all about partnering with parents. They're a Christian school for Christian families and that results in a great community where people hold similar values. They also have stellar academics; the bi-annual standardized testing they participate in shows that not only do they excel compared to the state average, but they exceed the average of private schools on all categories, in all grade levels! We have all 3 of our girls enrolled there (Kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th grade). Beyond the basics, they have got great art and music and drama and computers and maker classes that the kids all get to experience. When we took a family trip and were walking through the National Museum in London, the girls were excited to recognize a painting that they had been discussing in art class. They also do plays and musicals at all grade levels and Ms. Miller arranges entertaining, original works for them to do. I'm especially excited about the ways the school works public speaking into the curriculum. As early as 3rd grade students are giving short presentations before the class and one of the culminating moments of 8th grade is giving a 20 minute "Ted Talk" in the auditorium, in front of the whole middle school. Surely this is the cause of some nervousness in the students, but the value of developing these skills young is so immense! Next year, we're looking forward to the no-cut sports that start in 5th grade. Our daughter isn't a great athlete but I look forward to the lessons of hustle and teamwork. Other schools have sports programs but they are often only for the students with well developed skills rather than being open to all. Also, starting in 4th grade, they have over-night trips. Our oldest just got back from a 2-night "Gold Country" trip. Many schools have impressive class trips, but they are often a large additional expense. SJCS's trips are subsidized by the fund-raising efforts of the school and so the cost is kept minimal. Other schools may brag about their programs, but then you find out that there's a waiting list and a lot of additional cost for those programs. We haven't decided where we will send our kids for high school, but SJCS has guaranteed admission with both Kings Academy and Valley Christian. Personally, I like the idea of keeping them in the smaller middle school at SJCS where they have a chance to be a mentor to the younger kids via the Buddies Program rather than having them on a campus with high schoolers before they're at that point themselves. read more

The best decision my parents made for my education and growth as a whole person was to enroll me at San Jose Christian School. For context I attended SJCS from pre-k to 8th grade and just recently graduated at Valley Christian High School with academic honors and the Luke 2:52 award (presented to 5 students who have shown a balanced lifestyle of academic, physical, spiritual and social development & were nominated by staff, teachers, and administrators). While I am proud of these achievements I did not put them in this review to gloat, but rather to show how significant SJCS's impact was on me as a person. 1) The small class sizes helped me to get a personalized education and build a strong relationship with my teachers. I learned the importance of asking for help when you need it and that education is not a one size fits all system. I was able to have more one on one time with my teachers for educational and emotional support at such a crucial growing age than most students I know ever did. While some prospective parents may worry that smaller classes won't help students adjust to a larger high school environment, I would argue that from my own personal experience I found it easy to adjust and that I was academically ahead of my peers from the start. 2) The teachers at SJCS are caring, compassionate, and go above and beyond to help you succeed. During my time at SJCS, my teachers would make time during their own breaks or after school to help me understand academic concepts better. They made sure to have a relationship with every student and were genuinely interested in our lives and our passions. At almost every sports game (yes even the away ones!) teachers would come and cheer on their students, taking time out of their evening to watch us. This evident care for me as a student didn't stop when I graduated from SJCS, as I still have conversations with past teachers who are cheering me on through college and beyond. 3) San Jose Christian's built in community helps to foster amazing friendships with classmates. Due to the smaller class size, it really feels like you are in a family-like community. I got to grow up with amazing classmates who pushed me to become a better person and to embrace and love everyone. I never felt lost in a group of students but rather a valued and cared for individual in a nurturing community. 4) The wide array of activities you can participate in as a student helps to nurture your passions. I got to participate in band, jazz band, multiple sports teams, choir, art classes, and theater during my time in the middle school. Not only are these activities an amazing way to make friends but they helped me to grow and discover my interests. We've been extremely happy with our experience with San Jose Christian School. Our daughter has been there 7 years, with 2 remaining. Their balanced approach of "teach, not ban" ensures the students are not blind to the topics they'll experience once they leave SJCS. They will be prepared to address the difficult topics and experiences as they will have learned how to process them with a biblical perspective. In addition to their exceptional academic program, they have a strong sports and music programs as well. This school is a gem in Silicon Valley and I am so glad it has weathered the challenges of operating a small school here. It may not be a perfect fit for everyone. That's OK. We still love SJCS! This is our third year at the school! Not only is SJCS academically rigorous holding two accreditations, but it cares for the whole (e.g., emotional, spiritual, physical, and mental) child. Our student is prayed for by name by his teachers and he receives the individual attention that he needs. The small-ish community gives us the opportunity to plug-in and contribute in unique ways and offers a sense of belonging and significance. SJCS is a total gem! We have our kids in the preschool and TK and it has been a wonderful experience for them and for us. The pre school is safe, secure, and prioritizes play, while also being highly educational. My oldest is now in PreK at SJCS and they are adding, subtracting, and even speaking in Spanish. I have been incredibly impressed with the curriculum compared to other schools in the area. Also, anytime my child has had a special need or required a service, it was addressed immediately as soon as requested. I greatly appreciate the fact that the school considered and implemented my requests for my children. Lastly, it's relatively affordable as far as private education goes. The preschool is more affordable than some of the others in the area (eg Primrose), and just as great. I'll be sending my youngest to preschool there soon. We love SJCS. read more

The principal has a genuinely loving heart, not just for her students but also for people in general. If there is one school I support, it would be San Jose Christian School. They are dedicated to growing the whole child, allowing them to flourish with as many gifts as they have. The leadership and the teachers thoroughly honed my daughter's musical, artistic, athletic, and academic skills for the three years she spent here. This school has been simply life changing for our family. We moved here a little over 4 years ago from The UK, and I was anxious about the school situation. We attended 2 other private, Christian schools, before landing on this one as our school home. I have a child in elementary and one in preschool and I feel like my children have absolutely thrived here! The school is relatively small, but with larger school programs and opportunities. The classrooms are small, so there is a lot of individual attention on the students. The teachers, (up through the elementary school) know my children by name and are extremely kind and nurturing, as are the kids in older classes (very inclusive). The teachers are patient, loving and provide an amazing curriculum for the students. My kids come home each day, excited by what they've learned and I'm always amazed at the projects and activities they are doing! The teachers are tenured and quite a few have master's degrees, plus they seem to be at this school because they genuinely love teaching and education. My kids are outdoors between 2-3 hours everyday, which I think is a crucial part of the day, and they offer a wonderful after school program onsite as well. I've gotten to know both the teachers and the faculty and love everyone I've interacted with, up through the principal and office staff (who also know and love my kids). There is also a very strong community of families and we have gotten to know and become friends with a lot of the families at the school, which I feel is rare. We have been at this school for 2 years now and look forward to many more. This school has been such a blessing to us and combines all of the good things of European schooling (strong curriculum, nurturing, problem solving, outdoor time, fostering confidence and independence, finding purpose and focusing on the whole child), with a strong Christian foundation as well. If you are looking for a private, Christian school and want your kids to delight in going to school everyday in a place where you know they will be challenged academically, encouraged and cared for as an individual, welcome home! The teachers are really great to our kids, they learn a lot and they learn bible stories, and Christian values. It actually humbles me being a Christian dad. It just seems better to me to have them educated in a Christian environment The only negative is the school is shared with a Montessori school. Update: My kids are now in 1st and 4th grade. My 1st grader loves to play "school" more than anything else. Most nights after dinner and homework she likes to read to me. She sits me down on the couch and asks everyone in her class to be quiet during story time. She likes to give quizzes after she reads to her class so when we get to a particularly important part of the story she'll look at me out of the corner of her eye and say, "You'll need to remember this, so keep it in your brain." I love the way she mimics Mrs. Reeves in her speech and also her mannerisms. She'll say, "This is how Mrs. Reeves flips the page when she reads to us. Then she walks around like this and holds the book open so everyone can see the pictures." When you ask her what she wants to be when she grows up the answer is obvious, a San Jose Christian School teacher. My 4th grader has been greatly impacted by all of her teachers over the years as well. I overheard her talking to my 1st grader and her friend about how great the teachers were. The obvious question arose, "Who is your favorite teacher?" After a long pause they all agreed that their current teacher was their favorite. Every year, about 3 months into the school year, my 4th grader becomes distraught over the fact that her new teacher is replacing the previous years' teacher as her favorite. She feels so bad about this. I could go on for hours with examples of how great our kid's experience has been at San Jose Christian School, but it hasn't always been sunshine kisses and puppy snuggles. This year our 4th grader and her classmates saw firsthand the real-world effects of bullying. I won't get into details, but I commend our teachers and administrators, in particular our new principal Mr. Intlekofer, for dealing with this issue swiftly and with grace. A special school assembly had been held earlier in the year to get kids thinking about the subject of bullying. They used a program called The Power of One and were encouraged to talk to their parents about it. My daughter was struck by the fact that even as a "bystander" who isn't being bullied, she has an obligation to stand up for and help someone who is being bullied. While no school is immune to the problems and struggles of this world, I can rest assured knowing that my kids are part of a community that genuinely cares for them and has their best interests in mind. read more

I somehow stumbled on this school while looking up another preschool for my 2nd child. I am floored with the wonderful reviews..... ALL written within a few days of each other in December of 2013. Hmmmmmmmmmm. Fishy. Just a few things I need to get off my chest- but first know that my child went here as a 2 year old for about 7 months before moving to a larger well-oiled-machine preschool- which this is not. 1.) The Director needs to remember she is not a behavioral therapist, a pediatrician, a family therapist, or Jesus. She actually told one mom that her child had behavioral issues because "she had a c-section and wasn't able to hold her baby right away". The poor mom left in tears and I wish I was kidding. This is one of MANY examples of her coldness. 2.) They combine age groups which is NOT developmentally appropriate. Huge difference between a 2 year old and a 4 year old!!! 3.) They offered no potty training support. Again, something other schools do well. 4.) And most importantly- my child (age 2!!!) escaped from unlocked play ground gates two separate times. They state the fire Marshall doesn't allow them to lock gates. Wtf?! No other preschool in the Santa Clara County has this issue. All gates are locked!! The directors response to him getting out?? She "was going to pray on it"!! Ummmmmm say what!? I'm sorry- that's not good enough for me lady. I know people like this place because it's cheap- but you get what you pay for and my pediatrician told me to run the other way when I shared with him my child escaping. He was right! Never happened again at the school we switched him to and he was at for 3 amazing years. Best choice ever. read more

I find the energy and spirit and the school is always fabulous and I so enjoy knowing my son is going to a school that not only does he love and enjoy going to but where the teachers, admin, and staff all love what they do. We started our son here in October of 2014. Our decision to do so was not based on cost, rather proximity to our home, an offering of a well rounded learning experience for our son and long term education plan for stability. (he can be here through the 8th grade) This decision took months to make as we were happy with the preschool he attended prior to SJSC however, we wanted to make a change that would provide a long term plan for his education. SJCS has exceeded our expectations on all fronts. Our son is thriving and I attribute this to the care that the staff and administration provide, the age-appropriate learning activities and a genuine desire to create a positive and happy environment for the whole family. The team at the school are loving, attentive and responsive. They have demonstrated a true commitment to partner with us (parents) so that home and school can be working in concert. Our son comes home excited to tell us about his friends and what he learned/did each day. As a whole the school is a wonderful community of parents, teachers and administrators all working towards one goal of providing a happy, positive and exciting environment for children and their families. My experience with San Jose Christian School has been nothing short of spectacular. My son started at San Jose Christian two years ago in their junior kindergarten class and excelled rapidly. He never attended preschool but thanks to Mrs. Van Ewyk (the Jr. Kindergarten teacher) he was able to adapt to his new surroundings and fell in love with school. We have had our share of obstacles in regards to behavior and attentiveness with our child, but the staff is truly gifted at what they do; loving and guiding students through the word of God. I know San Jose Christian always has my child's best interest at heart and it's inspiring to be surrounded by such Godly people. My intention was never to have my child in private school, but after experiencing the love and kindness that is displayed daily on campus I couldn't imagine him being anywhere else. During the presidential campaign one could not help but to notice the negativity and hate that was being spewed everywhere. I don't think I ever stopped to think about the impact this might have on my child, being raised in a world so divided. To my surprise, my son was more prepared for this moment than I was. As we got ready to vote my son came up to me with a sign he made. The sign simply said "Deliver love." As our nation was divided, my son was mindful of the only thing that we have to give or receive in this world; love. I wish I could take credit for his ability to be the change he wishes to see in the world, but he was simply mirroring what he sees daily in school. My son's love of God is strong, his knowledge of biblical teachings grows every single day, and his kind spirit thrives thanks to San Jose Christian. You will not find a staff member that does not have a relationship with your child and as a parent I cannot tell you how comforting that is. From the Head of School greeting each student daily as they walk onto campus, to the teachers who make time to be very involved in their student's success, even down to the wonderful office staff; every single person is invested in the success of your child. San Jose Christian School is a hidden treasure in Campbell that not only challenges its students academically but helps them to build a solid foundation spiritually in Christ. Our family has been there for the past 8 years and we have seen our two boys grow in leaps and bonds in all areas of the curriculum. The teachers are top notch and have a heart not only for Christ but strive to have each child they teach reach their full potential in all areas of study, so they will be successful beyond the doors of the school. Our boys have been involved in the many opportunities the school provides: Music, Band, Choir, Art, Computers, Drama, Sports, After School Clubs, Student Buddies Program, Science Camp, Gold Country Trip, Spiritual Retreats, Shakespeare Festival, and Student Government. One area we were especially thrilled about was that SJCS offers an amazing music program starting in the 2 year olds preschool class and continues all the way through 8th grade. Not many school's start so young. The office staff is helpful and ready to answer any questions you have and the lunch program is amazing!! (A TON of great healthy and yummy choices for all types of eaters.) The head of schools is on campus each day and she makes sure things are running smooth by creating a caring Christian school environment that everyone wants to be involved with. The principal supports his staff to "Reach for the Stars" in how they teach each student and demonstrates positive opportunities to further staff development both academically and spiritually. He also makes each child feel special by remember their birthday and addressing them by name. There are over 200+ students at the school, so that's a big deal for my boys when Mr. I knows them and gives them a handwritten note wishing them well or calls them by their name. The Preschool has grown from 1 classroom to 5 different classrooms since we have been there. The new program reaches students from 4 months old all the way to 5 years old and bridges the gap from preschool to elementary seamlessly. The preschool teachers are thoughtful and caring to all their students and work well as a team to insure each child develops at their own rate but is ready for the next class. There is a wonderful mix of developmentally appropriate activities offered in each classroom which not only focuses on academic and social skills, but music, dance, culture, Bible and the arts as well. They offer preschool chapel every other week beyond what the children are doing in their classrooms and the children have so much fun singing, dancing and worshipping together. Each child who continues on to the elementary part of the school is prepared and eager to experience the next step of their school journey. The school also does a great job at helping the 5th graders, who will be transitioning into the middle school side of the school at the end of the year. They provide a shadow day, so the students get a feel of what to expect in 6th grade and there are many opportunities throughout the 5th grade year for each student to grow more independent in their academic journey and become an advocate for themselves in solving their own study habits. Parents are always made aware of things that might be late or if a student is struggling with something through daily communication but the teachers really help each student take charge of their own lives, academically for the future. Do you want your kids to learn in a bubble? Or do you want them to be able to witness the world for what it really is? If you answered yes to the second question, DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE. I graduated from 8th grade from this "school" in 2011 and I was glad to be gone. If you plan on sending your child to a private high school such as Mitty, Presentation, or Bellarmine, they will NOT be prepared for the rigorous academic schedule of high school. By mixing God into classes that are not explicitly religious-such as science-students learn things that will be shown to be incorrect in the high school learning environment. Sure, this might not matter if your child is in elementary school, but in middle school-when a child is beginning to develop into an individual-this environment is not suitable. Additionally, the vast majority of students I encountered while at this school were white, wealthy, and out of touch with greater problems in the world that did not involve sports, video games or Kim Kardashian. Also, none of the teachers I had when I went there had a degree from what I would call a "reputable school." Only one teacher had a reputable degree (Cal Poly SLO) and she was laid off. OH AND THE THING THAT REALLY GOT ON MY NERVES: multiple teachers openly said to me and other students that Muslims, Hindus, and basically anyone who wasn't Christian was a bad person and their way of thinking is automatically bad while Christians have never done anything bad ever. No way. In short PROS: -A lot of schools don't have a music program but this one does so it has that. -Probably a lot more calm and controlled than a public school but at one point 6th grades were throwing heavy rocks at an 8th grader with mental disabilities on a daily basis. -location is decent CONS: -No real science curriculum. INTELLIGENT DESIGN IS NOT A SCIENCE -English curriculum does not prepare students for high school English classes -Teachers and students are closed minded -Students have recess but it's not like they can do anything fun because most games are "dangerous." -Course load is limited and students will be overwhelmed when they enter high school -Biblical passages are not analyzed. The Bible is treated as a heal everything book but is not read into deeply. Students memorize 15+ verse passages, but for what? We were never told what the passages REALLY mean -The earth is not 6000 years old. Methuselah was not 969 years old. But according to SJCS, they were. In the Jewish tradition a year was one lunar rotation, so a month. Methuselah was more likely around 81 years old. Teachers should not blindly tell students things. I hope this was helpful to anyone. I would recommend sending your children to a school like Challenger, Stratford, or one of the many Catholic K-8 schools in Silicon Valley. If I had gone to one of those school, I believe my high school career would be much more controllable. read more

The very first time we toured the school, I knew this would be a perfect fit for my son who was entering first grade. We were taken on a tour of the school by Betsy, and her energy, enthusiasm and kindness sold me. Now that we have been at the school for 3 years, I am truly grateful that we ended up here. My son is getting a great faith-based education, he's learning about music, and making many great friends. I especially like that this school is located on a former Campbell School site, so it's a nice large school, with plenty of room for the kids to run & play. For me, the on-site daycare is a HUGE plus, and the cost is very reasonable. I would highly recommend SJCS to anyone looking for a good Christian school for their child. read more

I love San Jose Christian! Not only is the staff welcoming and warm but the families there have really created an environment where you feel instantly welcomed. My first son entered as a 4th grader a few years ago from another school, and within the first two or three days, several moms approached me to introduce themselves and to tell me what a great school it has been for their child(ten). Also, my son had a special educational need and the principal/superintendent at that time was incredibly responsive and accommodating. They recently hired a new principal that has been a great addition to the school. He is engaging and super fun-loving with the students but also able to implement tough love where needed. Over the last two years, the efforts made to up leveling the younger children's academic structure has been phenomenal. I was already satisfied when I started our children in their preschool back in 2013, but seeing what they've done to constantly improve the academics has continued to impress me. I have been blessed to be a part of the SJCS community for over 10 years, first as a teacher and now as a parent. While no school is perfect, I have confidence that SJCS strives to honor God in all areas of its operation. I have two daughters in middle school at SJCS. Both are developing wonderfully, thanks to teachers who challenge AND support them. For our commuter family, having an after-school sports program on site, is an asset. We love the creative ways in which technology is integrated into the learning experience in most academic subjects. Children get well prepared for high school through a mix of collaborative projects and long-term research/writing projects. If we had another child, we would send him/her to SJCS as well! read more

San Jose Christian School has been an enormous blessing for our family. Our son began his academic career at SJCS in Kindergarten and is now in 1st grade. Thanks to the dedicated staff and SJCS families, our son is thriving both academically and emotionally. Choosing the right school for our children can be such a difficult decision with so many factors to consider. SJCS has surpassed all our expectations. We are so fortunate to have found such a safe, loving, encouraging environment for our son. My children have been attending San Jose Christian School since they were in first grade. My youngest will be graduating 8th grade in 2012. I can't express enough how much we appreciate the academic excellence combined with the nurturing environment. Our children will graduate with an above average testing level in many of their subjects. In a day when the Arts are put on a shelf until funding can become available, I feel so blessed that our children have the opportunity to explore these areas through competition and performances. Our children have developed great relationships that I'm sure will last a life time. In summary, I can't speak highly enough of the teachers, the property (nestled in a residential community) and the programs. read more
