It is inclusive, supportive, kind, and caring, and people have been beyond welcoming this year given we are a new family. There is a true sense of community here, and it is clear that families, teachers, and staff all share a genuine commitment to the children and to one another. The kids are truly kind to each other - it shows that this community values kindness above anything else. It is not lost on our family how lucky we are to be part of the St. Francis Cabrini community. The campus is gated and feels super safe, which is such a relief as a parent of an elementary school student. The teachers have all been wonderful, caring, patient, and really dedicated. Our son has grown so much here, both academically and socially, and he's made amazing friends. The parent community has really stepped up too! Everyone's so involved and supportive. The recent Cabrini Carnival was a huge success and such a fun event--it reminded us that this school isn't just great for the kids, but for the whole family. Overall: a safe and friendly place for kids to go to school...loved the Lower School. Every place has pros and cons and the pros outweighed the cons by a long shot. The only regret I have is that the rigid curriculum and some rigid, old-school, teachers may have stifled creativity and did not promote love of learning. Middle School: pros: a great place for kids who have maxed out academics at the public schools and are inwardly driven to be the best and succeed, INTRINSICALLY (meaning not pushed to succeed by parents only)...kids who are really into math or science will do well here...no drugs or alcohol...kids are very clean cut and well-behaved...great extracurricular programs cons: some old-school teachers push very hard and will teach only to the top 2-3 kids in the class..not very sympathetic to the needs of growing adolescents...tons of homework!! Lots of kids compare grades and kids regularly cry after math tests-- yes, they talk about "A-" being the Asian fail. Most of the kids in the upper levels spend time after school and in the summer taking academic classes to "get ahead." So, in the summer they will enroll in the same math class that they will take in the Fall, in order to ensure they already know the material before the class even starts. Far too many kids take extra tutoring during the year but teachers refuse to acknowledge this. Kids get punished or suspended for minor infractions. For instance, every single boy was kept indoors during recess and after lunch because no one would rat out who graffito'd the bathroom. Every boy was "jailed" for a couple of weeks. Parents complained but head of middle school would not relent. One boy was suspended for making a joke about alcohol (just a joke, he didn't actually have any alcohol.) Know that most kids drop out of sports by the 8th grade. Yep. Because they and parents decide that science projects, math contests, etc, are more important. Also some teachers are very strict about attendance for extracurricular activities and will force you to give up sports. It's almost impossible to do sports and any other extracurriculars in the Upper School, so lots of kids don't. Not good for the Whole Child! Overall, I can't recommend the Middle School. I feel like it is a dangerous place for kids at this age. I'm not talking about safety. Harker does a great job of keeping the kids safe. I'm talking about their mental health. Watch Race to Nowhere. Many parallels from that movie to schools like Harker (and Saratoga High School, Cupertino High School, Gunn & Palo Alto High) where everyone is firmly in place on their track, racing to get into an Ivy-League and be #1. That's great for the 10 kids in each grade who are determined and meant to be on that track. But for everyone else? Do some soul searching and figure out if this is all worth it. The race demands that your child sacrifice his or her childhood.

From my personal experience, some of the very negative Yelp reviews don't seem to reflect the Dr. Santha I have known. She is kind, caring, and genuinely committed to doing things the right way. She can sometimes be demanding when it comes to the quality of work, accountability, and professional ethics, but I see that as a reflection of her high standards rather than a negative. I believe it's important to consider the broader picture and make your own judgment based on misunderstanding. Overall, I have found Dr. Santha to be a thoughtful, principled, and dedicated professional, and I'm grateful for my experience with her. But some parents are over involved and manipulative. Overall the campus life for my child was good.

This review is specifically about our experience with 5th grade at Stratford San Jose Middle School…read more(SJMS), which serves students from 5th through 8th grade. Unfortunately, the academic experience in Math and Science was extremely disappointing. The year got off to a difficult start when the original teacher was let go after about a month. A substitute then taught the class for another month, but the instruction was also not effective. Once a full-time teacher was in place, we still saw very little actual teaching of Math and Science concepts. As parents, we frequently had to teach these subjects at home to make up for what was not being covered adequately in the classroom. This is not what we expected from a school where we are paying for a quality education. We raised our concerns with the principal, but unfortunately, the situation did not improve in any meaningful way. We received assurances that changes were being made and that we would see improvements, but our experience did not reflect those promises. This review is only about our 5th-grade experience. Based on our experience, we were very disappointed with the quality and consistency of Math and Science instruction and would not recommend the 5th-grade program based on what we experienced.

I have had the great pleasure of being a part of the Casa community for 5 years. Throughout our years there we have been able to work closely with a majority of the primary teachers -and they are all amazing. Attentive, warm, thoughtful, patient, kind-they encompass all of the traits that I believe are important for teachers to possess. Both of my children have different personalities, and they were both able to thrive in the primary programs. The school provides a safe and loving environment where they are able to explore their interests, develop friendships, and master early childhood skills (like reading, writing and mathematics). The school fosters and promotes new interests, and they do a wonderful job of teaching the children so much more than just academic subjects. My children have learned about and been exposed to different cultures (their holidays and foods for example), countries, plants and animals and how to take care of their belongings. The school also has a wonderful sense of community-they offer multiple events throughout the year where all the families can come together, they host singalong events biweekly where the parents can join, and they make it very easy to be involved with the school as much (or as little) as you like. If I ever have a question or concern the teachers/head of the school/staff in general have always made me feel heard, and like my opinion is important. My entire family has benefited from our time at Casa (in more ways than one), if you are considering a Montessori education or looking for a primary program then I highly recommend visiting this school.

Creative Beginnings is truly the best preschool you can ask for, and specifically with my neurodivergent son, he has progressed and accomplished so much in thanks to the hard work of his teachers and the director. His life would honestly not be the same if he hadn't attended this school for the last 3 years. In fact, his private speech therapist told me that this is the best school she's ever been to. Aside from the accommodations and support they provided my son, I'm amazed at how much our tuition gave us: kung fu, soccer, music teachers visited on a weekly basis, a low student teacher ratio, field trips, and so much more. I think the mix of structure (weekly lesson plans for each class) and free play is perfect for kids as well. I also want to note that the teacher turnover is very low, and most of the main teachers have been there for many many years. In addition to just being a warm, welcoming place, my son also thrived academically here. His school district assessment showed that he is on track academically for kindergarten, thanks to the hard work of his teachers.

This was before the school underwent a huge remodeling which left it looking a bit like a prison from the outside, but that seems to be the new look. Although I can't attest to the DMS of today, I can say that the three years I spent at the school were great. The teachers I had were all great-- even my mean 8th grade English teacher deserves some credit for my BA in English. Sure there were clicks, and some horribly mean kids here and there, but it wasn't that bad. Middle school is supposed to be really hard because everyone is changing and awkward, but I don't remember it being so bad. The school is also a CA Distinguished School, so that counts for something. I hope the school is still great today.
