We're from a border town to Mexico in Texas, so we cook our own Mexican food. I must say I was surprised as to how the beans and rice taste; most places can't nail the taste but this place does. I've gone with my dad & husband several times. Nice decor, good space, some works speak Spanish & others English so it's a good mix. Would recommend. Worst experience we've ever had at a Mexican restaurant! Waitstaff was pleasant but kitchen was incredibly slow. Waited 45 minutes for our food which was bizarre since only 4 other tables with customers. My order was wrong so the manager gave me 1/2 off even though my food came out when everyone else was done eating. Would never got back. read more

Excellent Mexican food. Best in the region, IMO. Full of flavor. Texture and flavor of kenchilada meat was excellent Appreciated the chips...light, not oily and served hot immediately. OMG! Took an hour to get our dinner. Went out with family from out of town. If that weren't the case we left for sure along with a couple of other tables. Usually super fast food at Mexican restaurants. Only thing that came quick was the chips and salsa. Even drinks took some time. Never stopped by to tell us why it was taking soooo long. We did overhear waitress tell another table as they were walking out that the 2 cooks were brand new as well Food that night. That's fine and understandable. Would of been nice to be told that so we would of understood and been patient. As we were, especially these days of lack of folks wanting to work. Place wasn't busy either. Would give 0 stars if I could. We did a pickup order and our food was not accurate at all to what we requested. We also paid for sour cream and didn't get it. The "mild" salsa we ordered tasted like tomato paste. The lime on the tacos was so dry that no juice would come out of it when we tried to squeeze it. We used to love this establishment! It was our regular go-to. However, the increase in prices has just made this local restaurant substantially more expensive. It would not be unheard of to spend $100.00 on a family of five. This puts this restaurant at the top of the price bracket compared with local chains like Olive Garden or Outback. Therefore, we no longer patronize this establishment regularly. We might visit once or twice a year. read more

On our way to Wintergreen Resort and wanted more than fast food for lunch so we thought we'd give San Marcos a try. We ordered off of the lunch special menu and the food was delicious. My wife commented these were some of the best hard shell tacos she has had. I had a taco and chicken burrito. The chips and salsa were excellent, not very hot but flavorful. Even the mild salsa in many restaurants is too hot for me. Service was excellent. We have a new stopping place on our way north. I just wish they were open Sunday so we could stop for dinner on our way home. read more

Finally! I can get elotes plazeros (street corn) any time I want it! Our daughter says she could eat that corn every day. The burrito San Marcos with Carne Asada and Salsa Roja is my favorite, but we always start with the elotes... piccante of course! The staff are always so pleasant and the restaurant is always clean. They are set up for COVID restrictions, with every other table blocked off for social distancing. I can't wait until warmer weather to sit on the patio! read more

I have been here before, and always had good food and service. Today I was very disappointed in mine and my wife's meal. I had 6 hot wings and lunch special burrito, my wife had the nachos with ground beef and shredded chicken. The hot wings had flavorful sauce, but the wings were tough and chewy like they had been fried or cooked twice nasty. My burrito was okay but lacked flavor and spice. My wife was very disappointed with her meal and noted it was bland. My wife asked server for cilantro and lime, the server informed us there would be a charge which was fine except for the fact it was only necessary to add some sort of flavor to make the dish decent. We said it was fine and she brought the cilantro and lime. The cilantro was not fresh it was wilted and some brown on the edges. My wife picked through it and found a few okay pieces and informed waitress she wasn't going to pay for the cilantro it was old and brown. The manager came to the table to tell us he didn't see anything wrong with the cilantro. My wife informed him if she wasn't paying for it period. He took it off the bill, but never would admit it was brown and not fresh. I guess no one ever taught him the customer is always right. read more

Typical Tex-Mex in nice free standing building with private parking lot. Busy at lunch this Wednesday afternoon. Everything tried was good and well presented, large portions. Shrimp, steak, chicken fajitas were excellent. Salsa both hot and mild were subpar for my palate, and should be improved, my only complaint. Very reasonable, pleasant friendly service, prompt, great spot for lunch and probably dinner too. Flan was very good and close to 5 star I had to have a second. The chef just made these and they are so fluffy and wonderful.....I'd come back if I'm ever in Chatham, Virginia (I think that's where I am) again on way to 150th anniversary of the celebration of end of Civil War at Appomattox. read more

For Chatham, it is probably one of the better places to eat and they do serve alcohol. Tamale was a little dry, but overall ok. Wait staff was nice and atmosphere was good. If I could've sat farther from the gossipy women it would've been even better :) read more

My husband is always searching for authentic Mexican food. We have found it in San Marcos. I had the caldo de res beef and vegetable soup, and my husband had burrito with authentic mole sauce. Everything was wonderful. As it was after the usual lunchtime rush, the manager took the time to explain to us how the foods were prepared. Was on a long drive back to NC from PA and got a craving for Mexican food. As my luck would have it I was passing San Marcos and made a quick u-turn to try it out. Glad I did. Hostess and servers were smiling and friendly and seemed to be enjoying their Sunday. I had a chicken quesadilla with chips and salsa and all was just what I needed. Waitress was super attentive and fulfilled requests quickly. Looked like a team effort to make everyone happy even with a couple big groups being served. To start, plate came out wrong.. Then I am told that they cannot take it back but I could order something else if I wanted.. (to add to the charge of the first meal that I won't be eating). Husband was not impressed with the giant burrito that he got ... Bacon in it was hard as a rock and the rest of it was not very good... Grandson's plate was ok he said... Whether I dine-in or get take-out it's always excellent. I've never had a bad experience here. Even though this location is pretty far from my house, I still choose this restaurant over any of the other Mexican restaurants in my area. My usual dish is Arroz Texano and I tell them add some diablo sauce for a little extra spice, so good! One thing I love about this restaurant is that they aren't stingy with their cheese, any dish me or my friends have gotten with cheese in it has had plenty. Nobody wants dry ACP! The carne asada was average. The fish taco was very disappointing. It was salty, fishy, and while the tacos did have a good amount of fish in them the pieces were tiny which maybe explains why they were so salty. They were nothing like the delicious fish tacos we had enjoyed at the Danville location. When I complained the server took the tacos away but didn't replace them. When they charged us full price I objected so they took 20% off the tacos even though we hadn't eaten much. Very disappointed. read more
