despite the reviews, i most definitely think san marcos is a town favorite. coming from a small town like whitehall, we mainly consist of fast food restaurants only. san marcos is the one actual restaurant that my family and i consistently come back too. i would consider ourselves regulars. we ALWAYS have fast service and great food. there is a wide selection & the staff is outstanding. if there was ever a mistake with our food, they would always make it right. we have never had to wait for a table, and we usually come with a quite large group (last night it was a group of 11) i 100% recommend san marcos to anyone. read more

Meh, you can get better "Mexican" food from Taco Bell. We've tried multiple items off the menu and it's always mediocre or not good. Street tacos are ok, but I can't recommend anything else. I wouldn't recommend San Marco's Mexican Bar and Grill the service was slow and the food was very plain and just ok in my opinion. The waitress was alright that we had she could've came over to the table more and asked if we needed anything, but she didn't and when my boyfriend flagged her down so that we could get our bill. She was to busy talking to another worker and gave us the one minute symbol. I just wasn't impressed enough to come back. Tried this place while passing through town because it has good yelp reviews. Despite the pretty good food and atmosphere, the terrible service we received ruined the experience. Our server didn't come by until we had been sitting for 10 minutes, and he was in too big of a rush to get our food orders even though the restaurant was dead. I asked for lemons twice when he walked by and never brought them. We ordered a cheese dip that never came and never got a refill on our chips or salsa. The waiter did not come by once after taking our food orders so we could ask about the cheese dip or chips. I serve at a restaurant and try to be understanding because I know sometimes things happen, but this was ridiculous. We will not be back. read more

My mom and sister ordered a your choice wet burrito, There wasn't any beans and barely any rice, and it was really chunky. The cheese wasn't melted either. Little to none red sauce, Didn't even look like red sauce it looked like salsa. The food tasted like it was put in a microwave and it looked like it. Consistent food. Service can be somewhat slow. We have returned a number of times, but it's rarely on the top o the list for either of us.

I eat a lot of Mexican food. This was very tasty but very expensive for what it is. We have a ton of Mexfood places in Georgia that are half or less the price. Mexican food is a very low cost food to create and a place to go when your low on funds. This is not the place. Stopped in for margaritas, chips and salsa. Simple right? Had 3 different wait staff and only the male was helpful/nice. The first batch of chips and salsa were good. But then the 2nd batch was excessively salty. Our first server went on a break and when I asked the lady who was behind the bar for another cheese she acted like I had inconvenienced her. She said "I'm not in yet." Very rude in my opinion. Then follow that up by me having to chase down my "actual" server to ask for another basket of chips. Very poor customer service. Amazing food and phenomenal service. San Marcos catered my wedding and they were nothing but the best. Everyone talked about how great the food was and when we had more people than expected show up to the reception, they were more than happy to prepare more food for us with no notice. My brother in laws went to pick up the food and they came back with nothing but great comments on how friendly and helpful the staff was to them. After a full day out, my family and I decided to look for a place to eat instead of returning to our cabin to cook. We checked a couple places, but they were either closed, or closing soon. We found this restaurant and were pleased they would be open for a while longer. I was with my son, daughter-in-law and three grandchildren. Immediately after being seated, we were given a large basket of chips and salsa. The salsa was amazing. It had just the right amount of heat. The adults started by each ordering one of the drink specials - margaritas. We had a choice of frozen or on the rocks, and for a little extra, they would add flavors. We all ordered frozen. One was regular, one banana and one mango. They were good. We ordered several different items from the menu. Mine was a veggie burrito. It was large and very tasty and filling. I do not remember exactly what the other orders, however they both commented several times on how good it was. The final note I want to make about this place was the service we received. I even asked the server for his name (Antonio), so I could mention him by name. We were treated special from the minute we walked in the door. The place wasn't very busy, but I truly believe our service would still have been the same even if it had been busy. Going to San Marcos has always been a pleasant experience. As a local resident in Whitehall, there really are not very many sit down restaurants due to how small our town really is. But on a Tuesday night, or a Saturday afternoon, San Marcos is always a great option. There is never a wait, for starters. You can always be immediately seated, no matter the amount of people you have with you. The space is large and open, and has always had a very clean and inviting environment. The staff has always been a pleasure as well. They are extremely friendly and are always personally getting to know there customers. We have grown quite a connection with a few of the staff members over the past few years. When there is a mistake in the order, etc (which is bound to happen) they ALWAYS make it right. Rather this be giving you the entire meal free, or fixing what is wrong in no time, they have always made things right. Overall, San Marcos is an outstanding restaurant for a lunch or dinner, or alcoholic beverages. read more
