[[HIGHLIGHT]]Unfortunately, I had a disappointing experience at the Visual Expressions Optometry with the doctor Selin Khayatan, O.D. on call and her crew.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I recently visited Visual Expressions Optometry for an eye exam to get a new prescription for my glasses. Unfortunately, my experience was far from what I expected. They originally quoted me $120 only for progressive lenses and then they changed the progressive prescription to $250 after having my eye exam. I made several calls to my VSP insurance to verify my coverage. I felt the doctor was pushing the "extended" progressive prescription on me. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In the end, the doctor told me to pick up my frame and go somewhere else.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff was polite at the beginning, but the accuracy of the quote to my prescription was incredibly off.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I returned to talk to her hoping the issue would be addressed, but unfortunately, nothing changed, and she was not open to resolve the problem.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The entire experience felt inadequate.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The doctor was trying to push a wide range progressive prescription to charge me more for an essential service I had the year before. I believe that accuracy to what they tell the customer is crutial. I moved here recently and I hated giving up my optometrist at work but I needed one close by. I found this place and needed an update to a Rx. I called and the person was so helpful (I wish I got her name). She knew everything, was very prompt with everything. It's a small office but it has some of the best equipment I've seen. From the retinal camera (I noticed it bc I was doing a project on these) to the automated machine that doctors use to determine your prescription. However, I felt rushed. She didn't even do the glaucoma testing (and my mom had this so I make sure I get checked for it every year). I had to remind her and she quickly did it. It's part of a normal check up. And then once my I got my Rx I noticed she charged the maximum plus more to my insurance. I usually have enough left over to spend on my contacts. It's weird though bc it's the contacts lens fee and I am literally wearing the same exact contact lens brand just a slightly higher Rx. A different person could not understand or tell me why it was higher. If you compare my bill from last year to this year that discretionary charge was way higher for lackluster service. I would never go back. I do not recommend this place. read more

I really wanted to like this place, as it is very close to home. I also thought that being in Danville, this location would be top notch. I was impressed by the actual office. It is very pretty. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I thought Dr. K was really nice as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered some really beautiful Tom Ford frames and ordering those went fine...until I actually started to wear them. I noticed that they were somewhat blurry and I had to squint my eyes to see certain things. I thought I was just adjusting to the new glasses as they were a little bit bigger frame than I am used to. I only wear these at night before bed or early in the morning so I gave myself ample amount of time to try and get adjusted to these. I started working a lot and was unable to come into the office to get these looked at. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I scheduled a couple of appointments to come in but had to cancel because I couldn't ask off of work to go in for an eyeglass adjustment. I get paid for the days I am at work so I was not going to miss a day of work just to have this done. This is not their fault but I shouldn't have had the issue in the first place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Fast forward several months and I finally was able to get in. Ironically they had me sign a paper that stated I could not return or replace the glasses if it was 90 days after ordering them. They said they forgot to have me sign this the day I was in ordering contacts and eyeglasses. I thought that was very coincidental that I was signing a paper for the exact reason I was in the office. I should not have signed this paper and I regret doing that. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While I was in office taking a look at my glasses, I felt the staff was extremely patronizing! They were being sweet but almost like I was a child. This was extremely off-putting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We discussed the actual prescription I would need to replace the lenses and was told "they would work with me." I was quoted almost $500 to replace the lenses that were never even the right prescription! I declined and had to still pay $75 for the office visit. I have purchased and worn glasses since I was 12 years old and this was the first time (and most expensive) that my glasses were not the correct prescription. Not to mention, the actual coating was coming off the lenses within less than a year of having them! I kept thinking I was just getting something on my glasses or scratched them but I had another optometrist tell me that the coating was coming off. I went elsewhere and had new lenses replaced and what do you know.... I can see perfect out of them. Long story short, I felt this office was nice but patronizing the quality of their lenses is subpar. I should have reached out sooner with my issue, and I know that's not their fault, but I had been complaining for quite some time about them and trying to get in for an appointment. I wont be returning to this office. I found one in San Ramon that has a beautiful office, wonderful doctor and large staff of amazing people. Don't settle for less than that. read more

Recently my glasses needed adjustment. I was fortunate to have the dedicated & outstanding service of Jeannie, their optician. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I recently took my entire family to this clinic and unfortunately had a terrible experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] My 7 year old child who was diagnosed with nearsightedness and myopia and recommended glasses and myopia control for over $2000. I ordered glasses per their recommendation but held off with the myopia control treatment. The diagnoses came as a surprise to us as he had never complained about his eyesight so we took him to another optometrist for a second opinion. The second exam showed that he had 20/20 vision in both eyes. I ended up having to pay out of pocket for the second exam and had already paid for glasses that they had recommended that my son didn't need. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I asked about the discrepancy Visual Expression gave me the run around and when I asked for a reimbursement for my out of pocket cost with the exam and the glasses that my son didn't need they continued to give me the run around.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Here is my take, there are plenty of optometrist options out there. From the very start, with making an appointment the team were absolutely friendly, professional and courteous. Fantastic staff, friendly and helpful!! My daughters glasses had a screw come off and also needed tightening as they were slipping off her face. The staff was warm and very helpful. They were very ready to help even though this pair of glasses was not bought from their shop. staff here is great! I had a small repair i needed for my ray bans (which the ray ban store in walnut creek could not fix) and the technicians at visual expressions got it done in 10 minutes. I believe the technician's name was Chris? He was through and polite and fixed the hinges and my glasses fit better than when i first bought them. The front desk person was really nice as well. It's a high end store but the staff here was really friendly and personable and very welcoming. They didn't charge me for the work. I frantically scheduled an appointment due to an increase in headaches. Not only did the Doctor impress me...this review is for her support staff. The gal that answered the phone was so comforting and followed-up with insurance to see my coverage was good to go. Genie matched me perfectly with glasses that suited my style! She was patient and helped me narrow in on the selections well. I was so appreciative of how the front desk receptionists brought out a treasure box, that helped to entertain my busy children. Unfortunately I was overcharged AND received the wrong prescription for my glasses. I went into the store to pick up my glasses and once I tried them on I encountered the incorrect prescription - valid human error. While waiting another week for them to fix their mistake, I asked for an itemized receipt. Not until I requested an itemized receipt is when I was told that there was another error, I was overcharged on a copay! This was not brought to my attention the first or even the second time I was at the store. If I didn't ask for an itemized receipt, it doesn't appear the overcharge would have been caught. Both of these were forgivable human errors. However, the response from the store associates was not handled in a way that I would recommend this store to others. It also looks like another customer in October 2020 had a poor experience. read more

I have been going to Dr. Khayatan for years and it pains me to say that I will not continue. Dr. Khayatan and Zac were fantastic, but Tiffany is the reason why I will not continue being a patient for this practice. After my exam, I was in the market to purchase two pairs of glasses. Zac helped me pick out some frames. He then told me that Tiffany is a wiz at insurance, pricing, and fit and only she can help me at this stage. She was already helping a lady (dressed to the nines) who was picking out the color of her sunglass lense tint. I sat there at the table and watched Tiffany run to the back of the office and to the lady multiple times saying "I will do what it takes to make you happy". That is an admirable statement to make to your customer, what doesn't help is that you say this while ignoring two other customers (me and now a second person waiting for service). I made eye contact with her multiple times and she didn't even say anything to me or the other customer. I understand that this lady seemed high maintenance but at least some communication regarding the status would have been appreciated and at the very least acknowledged. After almost 45 minutes Zac came over and tried to show me some pricing but by then it was too late. I was fed up and had enough. I told him that I felt ignored and that Tiffany truly couldn't care less if I was there or not. He apologize multiple times and said it was an "excessive wait". When I left Tiffany was still at the beckon call to this lady and the poor girl behind me was still waiting. So if you choose this practice I would suggest you either: 1. Pray to whatever deity you believe in to be the only person in the office so then maybe just maybe Tiffany will give you the time of day. 2. Bring a very large book, if there are people ahead of you then you are in for a long wait because Tiffany will ignore you. (imagine going to a restaurant and you sit down get your drinks and your server doesn't even talk to you for 45 minutes. How's that going to go?) My wife and I will not continue to patronize this practice due this utter disregard I got from Tiffany. read more

Without question, we always find the best selection of quality glasses for our entire family. The selection for my husband, myself, and our two daughters exceeds our expectations. Our college daughter just came home for break, received an eye exam and chose a pair of glasses that she loves, and the appointment was stress free. I wanted to like it here. I tried to like it here. In fact this is a hard review to write and I almost didn't write it, because I do like Dr. Khayatan personally, but the overall experience was just meh, and led me to another Optometrist. Yes, I would agree with some of the reviewers that the service and attitude can be very different from visit to visit with the receptionist. Some times she was chatty and nice, other times cold as ice. I'm guessing she's stressed and busy when she's icy, but it really does come off as rude. Gillian has always been great and polite and so has Dr. Khayatan. On a personal level, I liked her a lot BUT... for the first time in probably 10 years I came in to get new glasses. I usually do contacts since I only wear my glasses a couple times a week in the evening at home, but I figured it was time for a new pair. #1-Frames are not cheap here. They definitely try to keep with the Blackhawk Plaza standard pricing and brands...which makes me laugh since the BP can't keep a company in business for more than 2 years, so maybe these companies need to realize that even Blackhawk people don't want to pay premiums for anything,but that's another post... So, fine. Whatever I get new frames once a decade, so I get a pair of Gucci frames. #2-Dr. K does my eye exam and tells me my prescription is wrong. Tweaks it, and then orders my glasses. They come in and I can tell something is wrong with one lens. I just can't see out of it. So I bring it in and receptionist acts like I'm a lying liar and says it must be my fault. Luckily, Gillian comes out and takes it back and says, nope, she's right, the lens was cut wrong...so back it goes to get fixed. #3-Glasses come back with lens re-cut and "fixed" yet I still can't see out of them. I can't see words on the TV, I can't see any detail. I call and again receptionist acts like I'm a lying liar but leaves a message for Dr. K who calls and says my brain is just not used to looking through this prescription, give it time. So I do. I really tried to let my "brain adjusts". I wore them every night to watch TV to see if it would click but I realized 3 weeks later, I can't see out of the damn glasses and I discover this when I driving...at night. So I go back again. She does her eye exam and says, well this IS what your prescription is, but if you want us to re-do the lenses back to your old and wrong prescription we will do that. Ok, prescription might be wrong but I can actually SEE with them, so yes please. Let's end this nightmare of me coming in weekly to tell you I can't see out of my glasses and you telling me that my brain is stupid and can't communicate with my eyes. #4-So life is good in my old and wrong prescription until 1 year goes by and I start getting the calls to come in for my annual exam. I don't answer them. So they start leaving messages TELLING ME what time my not made appointment is. Again, I ignore. So after 1 year, and them realizing I'm not coming back, I get a bill in the mail for my services. REALLY? A bill 1 year later after you realize I'm not coming back. No, that isn't suspicious at all... So, while I like Dr. K as a person, the repeated feeling of being treated like a lying liar with a dumb brain was enough for me not to return. read more

This is the second time I had bad experience at this place. Their receptionist is awfully rude. I hope my order will be fulfilled fine this time. If not, will be the last time I will use this place. May be English is not her 1st language (?) and does not understand the cold energy she is giving out to their customers, but she is very snappy and rude. However in asking her if she was provided with a clear understanding that these were additional charges she indicated she was not made aware. In the end the bill was presented to both of us upon departure and no indication that there were these additional charges that would be submitted to my health insurance. I trust this is not normal practice for you and that this might have been a miscommunication between you and your staff. I hope that moving forward this is corrected for all your patients. I have to agree with the others....Dr. K is wonderful. Patient, thorough, etc. But her front desk assistant is seriously deluded in what she thinks her position is at the office. When I brought my son in at the age of 3 for a check up, the assistant tried to sell me so hard on getting him sunglasses. Something like $75 sunglasses. For a THREE YEAR OLD. And when I said no, she said, well your insurance covers some of it so you're not out of pocket that much. Uh, "not that much" you must be kidding. The kid was 3 at the time and was hitting growth spurts every 4-months! SO yeah, even being out of pocket $50 is TOO much. I too, only wear contacts and she tried to hard sell me on frames. So fine, I picked up a pair of really nice Gucci ones. But they weren't cheap. Then, my husband went in for a check up but that time, he declined sunglasses. According to my husband, she pushed so hard for the sale he figured her pay must be based on commission because she pressed so hard. And when he said "no thank you" she gave him a look as though "why are you wasting my time then?" And then she made some comment about about how it's not a good decision to give up the allowance the insurance gives you. Are you serious? Well, that's his business and decision. Not hers. Seriously, who does she think she is? No finesse, no nothing. Just pushy as though she were negotiating at a flea market or something. It's really too bad such an employee is the reason for us not going back. We see a different Optometrist in Danville now who is actually FURTHER away from our home, but we don't get snotty attitude from his staff. read more

So, I came here today for my first visit after finding Visual Expressions on Yelp. Dr. Khayatan and her staff are super nice, friendly and personable. The office is in a beautiful location in Blackhawk, and the office itself is gorgeous, spacious and comfortable. Much nicer than any other optometrist office I've seen. Dr. Khayatan has the latest in technology when it comes to your eyes, and wasted no time updating my prescription and giving me the latest and most comfortable in contact lenses. She is also very thorough in explaining what she is doing. Mohiba (staff) was very friendly and helpful in helping me find the right pair of glasses for my face, which I loved. She also was thorough in explaining how and what my insurance was covering when it came to my visit and what my needs were. I am super happy that I found this place and will be back next year for my annual exam. Frames they carry include high end designers such as, Fendi, Gucci, Prada, Juicy Couture, Fred, D & G, etc... The only downfall would be price. For a few boxes of contacts, my appointment, and my glasses I paid $595 and that includes my insurance covering a lot of it. So if you go here just be prepared to shell out the money unless your insurance covers 100'% of everything. But the service was superb and I'm happy with Visual Expressions overall. read more

I made an appointment for my children for a vision checkup just because we have a "vision plan" and the office was really beautiful. I was shocked to learn that my 5 year old daughter had severe astigmatism and needed glasses! Dr. K and her staff made her feel so lucky to have to wear glasses and helped her find a pair of "pink" glasses. She was super excited when they were ready (after only 3-4 days) and felt very special wearing them. I was grateful for the way they handled this because I was making a bigger deal out of it than it really was. Not even one month later, we had an "accident" and somehow the glasses were crushed with my car? I really don't know for certain what happened but when I took them in I found out they were not fixable and it would cost $165 just for the frames! I was so upset, but they called me after a few minutes and said they called the manufacturer (Juicy Couture) and were able to get a replacement pair since they might have been "defective"? I was so relieved and grateful for them going out of their way to make this request for us! I definitely recommend Dr. K and her office for all your optometry needs especially if you have children! read more

I started going to Visual Expressions several years ago when my current optometrist in my city no longer accepted the insurance I had. At the time, I asked my optometrist for a referral and she referred me to Dr. K. At first, I was a little weary since the office was all the way in Danville but after my first visit I knew the drive was worth it. Dr. K is great and her office is very nice. She has high-end optical equipment and it was a step above my previous eye doctor's equipment that looked like it had been there for decades. My family and I have been coming to Visual Expressions for the past 3 years and have always had a great experience. Dr. Khayatan is great! She is very patient and trustworthy. I've gone to Optometrists in the past that have misguided me into expensive unnecessary tests with hidden fees and with Dr. Khayatan, I've had nothing but a positive and honest experience. My vision has barely changed the past 2 years, and we both agree that there is no reason to get new lenses. How nice to walk out of my appointment this week with my original frames/scripts that I purchased two years ago and not have to spend an exorbitant amount on frames (because I have two scripts). I did however, indulge in beautiful new sunglasses ... they carry a really nice selection of glasses to choose from, and I couldn't resist! I can't say enough good things about Dr. K and her staff, not only is she very thorough, but very warm with a caring demeanor. Her staff is very friendly and knowledgeable as well, and I appreciate that I have never felt rushed while either on the phone with them, or in their office.
