Professional, knowledgeable and friendly staff. My husband and I had been to a 3-4 different optometrists over the 30+ yrs we lived in San Ramon per a couple of ophthalmologists' referral. They never got the prescription and/or fitting right, and made us feel like it's not them that's the problem. I had the best experience at this Optometry group. Both Dr. Thames and Dr. Chan have been thorough, knowledgeable, attentive and my prescription is perfect. The cherry on top is the staff. My prescription sun glasses have constantly fallen off of my head. The front office manager noticed and offered to adjust the fitting, without cost. Not only are the doctors and receptionist very friendly and knowledgeable, but they were able to schedule appointments for all of my children around my very busy work schedule. They follow up with phone calls, emails and texts and have a very attractive selection of frames for men, women, and children. Best comprehensive eye exam ever! I scheduled an appointment through the website and showed up the next morning with a note saying the office has been closed due to covid and Dr Thame's cell phone was provided. He was very apologetic saying that it was an error on the website and that the office has been closed for nearly 2 months. He offered advice over the phone and after describing my symptoms he offered to come in the next morning to do a comprehensive eye exam. My comprehensive eye exam was beyond what I've ever experienced with multiple Optometrists . In the past eye exams were pretty much the usual; few eye procedure, reading off letters, and getting prescription handed to you. I've never sat with a Dr for 20 mins after the exam to go through a 3D eye scan in great detail explaining how he diagnoses glaucoma, cataracts, and other major eye problems. Not even my lasik doctor that sold me a $5k procedure was as thorough as Dr Thames. Not to brag that I have 20/20 vision, but it shows that even patients with perfect vision/health will receive the best care from Dr Thames. This is definitely the office I will be at for my yearly exams. read more

I have been going to Dr. Thames for more than 10 years and he has always presented me with the best prescription glasses, working with me until they are perfect. I do have difficult to test eyes and he still makes it very clear that the correctness of the prescription is his main objective when prescribing new glasses. If he can get me the right one, he can make it possible for everyone. The Technician Vicky always bends my glasses back into its correct shape when I have to go in after I surely manhandled them on occasions. And she makes sure I receive all the credits my insurance will give me towards the new glasses. And the Office staff is friendly, courteous, and helpful whenever you come in. This optometrist is a self-serving shyster! Went to see Dr. Fletcher Thames becuase it was close to my office and my previous optometrist had wanted an extra fee to prescribe contacts. When I arrived for my appointment and filled out the required paperwork I was very specific about not wanting tests done that were not covered by my insurance. The receptionist checked with my insurance and came up with a care plan that looked good to me and was only about $100 out of my pocket. I went throught the test with Dr. Thames and he asked that I re-schedule another appointment. When I arrived he had a new machine that had just arrived and wanted to use it tp perform some tests because he had some suspicions of cateracts and glaucoma. I again asked if this was covered under my insurance and was assured that it was. Turns out that I had no cateracts that needed attention nor did I have glaucoma but I did end up with a large bill that was not coverred by insurance. I called the office and they said too bad. Now they have sent it to a collection agency and I'm sure my credit score will be hit but there is no way this crook is getting any payment from me. read more

From the walk into the doorway I knew I was in for a pleasant experience. I was greeted by everyone within earshot and made to feel right at home. They knew my name and I was immediately taken to a exam room by the friendliest receptionist, offered a magazine which I didn't even have time to open because here came Dr. Thames! This was my final visit of three because I have a fairly bad astigmatism in one eye and he wasn't to pleased as to how they were seated on my eye. This last time they were great. The doctor was nice, but his prescription was not very accurate. I got my glasses but it didn't fit well, so I had to check with another doctor to find out. Front desk crew was rude and messed up my paperwork, but one of them seems normal and have customer care in mind. The optician Vicky was callous and her attitude made me nervous. She seemed so entitled that I felt myself super unconfrmtable and had tendency to flee any time. In addition, she only offered high-end lenses, coating, etc and not transparent on other options. I don't recommend this place to anyone if you want to have a decent service. read more

It's been a long time since I've been to the eye doctor! One of my favorite features was being ale to schedule my appointment online! So convenient and easy to do Plus, the office had all my information up front including my insurance coverage. I had LASIK around 10 years ago which was great while it lasted. Age has set in and well, my distance vision just isn't as sharp as it used to be. The staff at this office is so friendly and helpful. I opted for the eye scan instead of the dilation drops. Wow, technology has come a long way in ten years! There is an extra charge but it is well worth not having the drops! Plus, you have a permanent record of your eyes that they keep for future reference. Dr. Thames was very personable and explained everything we saw in the scan. He then did the eye test and found the perfect correction. Then I tried on a bunch of frames hand picked by one of the friendly staff members. I can't remember her name but she gave me honest feedback and really made me feel comfortable with my selection. I'm bummed to need glasses but This office made my visit very enjoyable. I had not been for an eye exam for a long time. When I arrived everyone was very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. They have state of the art equipment, I was tested and scanned it was really cool. Dr. Lin tested my vision and showed me how poor my vision really was, part of getting old I guess. The staff is so welcoming that I actually look forward to eye appointments. This year my insurance covered most of the costs. Previous years I didn't have VSP and I gladly paid out of pocket to continue with Dr. Thames. Dr. Thames shows a genuine interest in understanding me as a person and how I use glasses in my daily activities. I like the retinal scan. It shows a digital history over time, plus no dilation so I'm quickly on my way.
