So HAPPY! I found a replacement to my once beloved La Cocina de Raque ANNND it's in my hood! I was ecstatic as it was gettin kinda hard for a pimp to haul ass out to the city or way to hayward when I needed a pupusa fix. So let me say this: I LOVE SAN VICENTE! It is a homey restaurant and the service is excellent. The woman who served me was extremely attentive and kind. I took my bff who has never experienced the joys of salvadoran food and she like couldnt figure out what she wanted. Instead of getting impatient, our server began asking her questions like an assessment in a sense and suggested all these delicous ideas and got an order out of my bff quickly. Also, when I ordered she asked was I mixed or did i have salvadoran friends? I said both but im not mixed with salvadoran and she's like oh i can tell it was one or the other cuz your spanish sounds good. You sound better than my daughter. I swear I cheesed harder than cotija!!! Can't you all just feel the red flush that rushed to my cheeks? :-) As for the food - Muy delicioso! I had pupusas con loroco y queso and omgsh they were so bomb! They weren't greasy at all unlike most other places...And the frijoles y arroz omgsh! just plain delicious. I also ordered two empanadas con leche and a cola shampan. And JUST KNOW, those really hit the spot as well. HmMMm...I dont even remember how we came across this place in the first place but this place has some very good Pupusas seriously. Aside from the ones my Tia makes these are the second best. I love to get the revueltas which have chicharron, queso and beans. The curtido is also yummy has a lil kick to it just like I like it. Ive been to places that it taste just like vinegar and flavorless. When ever we go there that is all I order Ive never had the mexican food. When I'm in the mood for the Salvadorian version of quesadillas, that craving must be satisfied. So thankful that I perused Yelp and found San Vicente. I went to them wondering if their pupusas were THAT good. And then I discovered, that my fellow Yelper's were correct. San Vicente's pupusas are the bomb! I came to visit San Vicente Restaurant to have breakfast like always Im a custom to! We order food over the phone to eat in! Once we arrive food was promptly served along with the drinks! We noticed a different taste to the Orchata we ordered! We asked the Server to change it for coffee! He said he was going to charge the drink because we already took a sip in one of the drinks, we said no problem we just didt like the Orchata. When the owner "big Lady with frosted blond hair" start telling us why we send it back and that the orchata was fresh and that we always have a problem with their food and always did that to her! I've only had one visit here. I was in search of Salvadorian tamales, because I don't love the mexican ones. Being married to a Salvadorian, I know the authentic, good flavors. San Vicente did not disappoint. I didn't get to try the pupusas because hubby ordered and AGAIN got the one with beans. I think I've told him 30 times now I don't like the bean one. So I didn't eat it. But the people were nice, we chatted about hometowns (theirs is San Vicente, hence the name) while we waited for the food. I will definitely be back. The food is decent nothing special I can't find anywhere else however the ensalada de fruta is delicious. The reason I gave one star is for the following points I will mention below. 1.) The lady is owner is EXTREMELY money crazed. There is a minimum of 20 dollars if you want to use your card, you have to get at least two pupusas , sorry if you're in the mood for one you gotta find another place. Extra chips ? 1.25. This is no way to run a business. 2.) service was HORRIBLE , the waitress had the worst look on her face and this is not the first time she's helped us. We thought maybe she was having a bad day last time but clearly she hates her job. After horrifying service I paid with my card and left 0 dollar tip. Had my first trip to this place yesterday, and boy was I happy for that. Seems like I am on a never-ending quest for the perfect burrito, and most places end up disappointing with either too much meat, too dry meat, or too yucky meat. The steak burrito I had here, ordered with everything minus guacamole, was very satisfying. It was quite big but I like the way the flavors came together in my mouth. They also give you a good dose of chips on the side. What makes this place even better is the service. Hands down has to be the best service I've experienced in any burrito place. When I have been there in the past the service is horrible, the servers are likely to interrupt taking an order in English and switch to Spanish and talk to other people. Don't waste your time here! Service is horrible!! We had a large party of 6 dine here this evening (6/5/19). My dad who is a respected militarily veteran had to basically put two table together to accommodate our large group and find the menus so we could decide what we were going to order. 10 minutes go by and still no service or acknowledgement from staff. Before my dad ordered, he asked the only waitress there to check with the cook to see if he/she was able to prepare the steak the way he likes it. After the waitress/server gives him the go-ahead he places his order only to be extremely disappointed. His order was for a steak "rare". She brought him well-done. My mom tried it and said it was so tough she couldn't even chew it! My dad calmly told the waitress/server his steak order was wrong and a woman comes out from the kitchen making a scene and yelling at my dad in front of the entire restaurant and calls him a vampire! We were all shocked by this and he calmly tries to de- escalate the situation. (Mind you, I had 3 young children with me.) After we finish, we have to get someone's attention twice to finally get our check. They ended up charging my dad for both steaks even though they messed the first one up and embarrassed us for it in front of other customers at said restaurant !! I have been here twice before and their service has only gotten worse. This will be the last time I set foot here. Don't bother spending a minute of your time or money here. This place is horrible! Took my cousin here for her birthday and the owner ruined her day. She was very rude! My two nieces got there and told the owner they were going to wait until everyone got there to order. The owner said they needed to order now and couldn't just sit and wait for people. They went ahead and ordered food and asked for water. She brought the water and said "I brought you bottle water so I could charge you more." My niece then went up to ask for more chips and the owner looked at her and said, "what do you want now?!" Came here on a whim and suggestion from a co-worker. I have had Papusas only at one other local restaurant, so my comparison is my only observation. I like this place. The Papusas are not as crispy as the other place I go to. I like crispy. What is it with the salsa at Salvadorian restaurants? They provide no real flavor. The salad here was very good. It is not as spicy as the other place. Another issue is that it is a $20 minimum charge to use plastic, but the lady in charge said since it was my first time here she would make an exception. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I first came into the restaurant trying to be unassuming - the decor, the lack of menus upon arrival, and the low level of enthusiasm shown to our table should have been a clue of what was to come. I don't usually leave negative yelp reviews, or even write yelp reviews in the first place. However, this place REALLY warranted a review that reflected its awful service and food. First of all, our table was a table of 7. No menus, no utensils, no water, no acknowledgement. Second of all, we wanted pupusas. I mean it's a salvadorian restaurant, right? She tells us, "if you want pupusas it's going to be a 20-25 minute wait. Someone just ordered 50 of them over the phone." We were fine with the wait, that we would talk and order some appetizers while waiting. She again told us about the wait, this time seeming more annoyed and ruder with us. Again we told her we were okay and would wait and order more food. As if the first two times didn't seem clear enough to us, she says we are going to have to wait if we order it. Whatever, we are more than committed to waiting at this point so we decide to order other items on the menu to hold us over until the much awaited pupusas arrive. Then she asks what we want to drink. We say, "Water, please. " She asks, "You want water? All of you?" "Yes." "No, order something else than water." .... Hold up. You're telling us what to drink now? So one member of the table orders horchata. The rest of us? We still want water. That's right, water. She says, "Ok, bottled water it is. I need to sell those anyway." Ha ha real cute. Then she proceeds to say, "Ok if you're gonna sit here and eat, then order some chips so I can charge you for that." Seriously?? Yeah, she's serious. $2.50 for each dry and disgusting basket. We order 2 at this point because at this point we are annoyed. Food comes out, blah blah blah, we are expecting some bomb pupusas. Um no. Mediocre at best. We ask for our check. She brings it to us and then says, "Pretty good price, just split it between the 7 of you." Okay, thanks for that, now you're telling us to how pay. In short? Awful. I am all about customer service. I must say their service was terrible . We ordered to go over the phone. My father had just got off work from a 15 hour shift. When we got there we decided to eat there instead. The lady with an attitude said, "Well it has already been bagged so you are going to have to do it yourself." Really?? If you value service and kindness, this is NOT the place to go. My friend and I work in the area and decided to go get Salvadorian food (I'd never had it before). I read on Yelp how great the pupusas were & I had to try. We sat down, the lady who helped us was funny and wanted to help. We kept laughing at her attempts to up-sell us. We're in sales, so we appreciate that. "You want chips (as she's putting them on the table)?" Sure we say. "Ok, I charge you for them (as she sets them down and walks away)." That's pretty funny! She didn't end of changing us, but it was still funny. After we ordered I asked for water, she said ok, I'll get you a bottle. I don't care about "filtered" water so I said I'd just take tap. She tried to talk me out of it. Since it didn't work, she brought me a glass of water with 2 tiny ice cubes in them. After that, she didn't look at me and would only speak Spanish to my friend. He had to translate what she said when she put the food down or any time she came back to the table. Now that's rude. My grandmother is 100% Hispanic, so I know the Latin attitude. This was several steps above that. After that, we waited about 20 minutes for our check. Once we had the check, we tried to pay. She argued with us about using a credit card. She said she didn't want to have to pay the fee. We offered to pay a little extra to help her out, she just threw the receipt at us and walked away. The sad part about this story, the food was really good. The worse part, she was horrible. After reading all the reviews on Yelp I thought for sure this would be one of my new favorite spots! Cleanness of the restaurant TERRIBLE. they recycle the salsa's that are left over from the tables. Meaning: when yu dine in and they serve yu salsa for your food. Whatever salsa is leftover is being recycle for the next guest dine in or take out. So if I dine in and do double dips, add pepper, salt, etc. to my salsa, the restaurant tosses that same salsa and mixes all the other leftover salsa from other tables to bring to you with your order. And they do this VERY casually in front of yu like if it's ok. No F***S giving. So if a dirty, overpriced, nasty food, rude restaurant environment is yur thing then yea I encourage yu to come here. If not TRUST me there are much cleaner, tastier, customer oriented pupusa restaurants around here. San Vicente is NOT yur only choice! read more

My colleagues and I went for lunch one afternoon and the place had only one other group of patrons which should've been a warning sign. Nevertheless, we sat down and ordered our food. When we asked for water, the waitress looked like we were asking her for her first born! She had to go to the kitchen and ask the owner to come out and tell us that they don't provide free water with our meals, that we had to buy their bottled water. I know that it's not mandatory for restaurants to offer water and I know that we are in a drought but seriously?!! It was just water, was that too much to ask?! The service was less than memorable. We were greeted rudely and with indifference. The person taking our order was impatient and made us feel rushed. The selection of Salvadorean menu items was a joke. The chips were overcooked and stale, the salsa was basically Campbell's tomato soup with garlic powder. The regular carna asada burrito was full of fat and grissle and very dry. The salvadorean tamales were good, moist and very filling. The papusas were very good. Met our standards. The bathrooms were locked to dine in customers. The wait staff didn't come to ask how everything was, which is no surprise. All in all, I don't feel this place is worthy of a second visit.
