Taqueria Los Pericos #5 is a small and cozy restaurant that is in the San Leandro Plaza but facing 14th Street. There is parking in the parking lot. Rustic and a couple of paintings of Mexican heritage on the walls. Complimentary tortilla chips and salsa bar and other fixings. The service was friendly. Order and pay with the cashier and place your number on the table and they will bring out the food to you. Complimentary Tortilla Chips and Salsa Bar. Came in on a quiet Wednesday, after visiting the farmers market. The restaurant was clean and welcoming. It is smaller than the other Los Pericos, a few blocks down. You order at the register and sit wherever you like. The cashier was nice and polite when taking our order. There's a salad bar that has sauces and jalapeños to help yourself.The nachos were delicious and were loaded with toppings. Overall a great meal with family. read more

It's so loaded that it's a meal for two to share and usually coming in early in the morning - you can get anything from the loaded salsa bar. Really great Mexican restaurant in downtown San Leandro on E 14th! They have complimentary chips and salsa bar that you can enjoy before your order arrives. Of course, you can get as much as you want while you're eating too! I really like their chimichanga with chicken (pollo asada) and beef tongue (Lengua). The portions are HUGE. There's plenty of seating here. I left this place stuffed. It was all so delicious! Definitely one of my fave Mexican places to come to if I have cravings for Mexican food! read more

I didn't realize there was a Los Pericos just down the street from the one in Pelton Center! I actually prefer this location because it's less busy--at least it was when I went--and it felt a little cleaner. I also noticed that the prices might be slightly lower. I ordered a chicken burrito, which came out to about $15. It wasn't a super burrito, but it would have been around $13 if I hadn't added guacamole. Next time, I'll skip the guac since they have a guacamole salsa I can just use instead. Overall, I really liked it and plan to come back. The only downside is the parking, which is just street parking, but there's plenty of space in the nearby shopping center. This is more of a mini review since I've only been once, but I'll probably update it after my next visit! read more

This is Taqueria Los Pericos #5, located in San Leandro Plaza, not to be confused with Taqueria Los Pericos, located in nearby Pelton Plaza!! It's probably a 5 minute walk between the two places! So, obviously, the food in these 2 places taste pretty much alike. But this place is smaller, and when I've been, a little less busy. And I do think the service here is a little better also. I ordered a taco salad with shrimp, and I got my complimentary chips and salsa from the salsa bar. They put a decent amount of shrimp in my salad, and with the taco crust being my bowl, it was good and filling. This place has a real nice ambiance, with good artwork on the walls. Los Pericos is a legit taqueria. Enchilada plates, burritos, and quesadillas with free flowing tortilla chips, salsa bar, and fountain drinks. I've never eaten in the taqueria but if I did, there is plenty of seating for those who choose to. The staff is very nice and ordering is simple. On this occasion I ordered: Chicken enchilada plate: this was my wife's dinner. She enjoyed it. It's complete with rice, beans, sour cream, guacamole, and a small salad. Super Steak Burrito: this is a solid sized burrito, though it is no gut busting. I feel like for $13 plus tax that they would be bigger quantity-wise but the despite that, they make a decent tasting burrito. This Pericos location is our absolute favorite, we've been coming here for years and they never disappoint. My husband & I decided to stop by after our eye doctor appointment on Friday 1/28/22. We came in for Breakfast, they have a huge menu with plenty of items to choose from for all meals of the day. We decided to grab some chilaqilles with asada on top, a wet Burrito de asada with green salsa and 4 tacos dorados de pollo & 2 aquas de horchata. There portions are huge, always tasty and fresh to order. The chips and salsa are always available and warm, the salsas are always tasty and spicy. Love the horchata that they make here, its fresh and actually homemade, not that fake one. My first time eating at this place and this is what went well, although, my bestie and I arrived about 30 minutes before closing: The lady that took our order was professional and cordial and when we needed extra time to decide what we wanted she did kindly remind us that the kitchen was closing soon. We asked if we could still eat inside and she said yes. We placed our order and we helped ourselves to the self serve tortilla chips that were kept warm under a heat lamp. These tortillas chips were crispy/crunchy and good! Also, we helped ourselves to the self serve salsa bar which contained a spicy what looked like a chipotle hot sauce, a milder red sauce, a pico de gallo ( tomato, onion, cilantro and jalapeño sauce), a pickled jalapeño with pickled carrots, and some lime wedges to add some brightness to your choice of meats in your taco or burrito. My bestie ordered a shrimp tostada that had a generous amount of chopped shrimp topped with slices of avocado on a crispy tostada shell. A condiment container containing a special red sauce different than the ones at the salsa bar was served along side the tostada. I ordered a super burrito with steak meat minus the sour cream. It was a good size and flavors were great on this burrito. I ate 3/4 of it and took the rest home for later. I gave them 5 stars because they deserve it. Service great, chips great, salsa bar great, food great. What are you waiting for? Go to Los Pericos in San Leandro and treat yourself to some good food. You deserve it too! read more

Super bummed out about this review , usually this place hits it out the park but today was not it . This is the second time in a row where they dropped the ball . Today I ordered Chile Verde burrito take out , got home 15 min later only to find they gave me an asada burrito with red sauce . Last time we ordered nachos with no sour cream and of course once we were home there was so much sour cream on the nachos . We called here 10 minutes before they were about to close at 8 pm and arrived in like 5 min. The food was not done but I noticed they stopped taking calls for food orders right at 8 pm and there were a couple of others there. The chips were very fresh and the salsa was also great. There was a chunky salsa, red smoky salsa, and a green salsa. The chips are in very small bags so they are very little portions. The enchiladas were pretty good but the red sauce on it was a little off. The "guacamole" on the plate is also not very good because it's whipped guacamole with no chunks in it. The super taco had a lot of going on -- too much meat and cheese and way too much sour cream. The taco was hard to close and eat nearly. I bought two super tacos but could barely finish one. The food here used to be good here not yesterday. I ordered a shredded chicken burrito and shredded chicken tostada there yesterday and my tostada was soggy. It was not crunchy at all. I only live around the corner so there's no way that should've been soggy already. I gave the burrito to my brother. We both had diarrhea the whole night and we still have it today. It's been almost 12 hours since it started. I've never had this happen eating somewhere before. I told the person that answered the phone that It was either their shredded chicken or their pico de gallo. I don't know what it was. She just said "sorry and I'll tell the manager". I've gotten take-out from #5 probably 30 times over the past few years. Usually it's a regular burrito with either pollo asada or pastor. I think these guys are GREAT, and the salsas are excellent as well, as are the chips. Portions large-ish, prices fair, free salsa and chips. Los Pericos is a real San Leandro gem. Their fish tacos, shrimp fajitas, chips with green salsa -- are a few of my favorites. I was attending a seminar at the San Leandro Library and this location, they have three, is within walking distance of the library. I have always enjoyed the food at the other location and my lunch here was no exception. I order my lunch favorites, a chili relleno and an asada taco. The taco had a generous serving of meat; it was okay but a bit dry. On the other hand, the relleno was delicious there were no seeds or core in the cheese filled chili. it was covered with a yummy salsa. I could have licked the plate. The chips were warm and the salsa was hot I don't like things as hot as I use to so I mixed the Pico de Gallo with it. It made a perfect blend. I could have eater two servings of the chips and salsa. I come to San Leandro once a month for a meeting nearby. I would put this on my solo before-the-meeting dinner spots, however, it is so hard to park I will probably go to the other location where there is the possibility of being able to park. read more
