Stopped by on Father's Day and I was so thankful that it wasn't busy yet! We got there shortly after they opened. We were seated right away, and had no idea that the morning menu was pretty limited. We got a variety of items like porridge, wonton soup, omelet, rice noodles, green onion pancake and curry fishballs. The green onion pancake was flat and really really oily. The menu said that you get a milk tea or ovaltine with your items but we got charged $1 for each drink. It was pretty watered down and a bit too warm for my liking. My daughter's omelet took the longest to come out (I think they forgot about it). The wonton noodle soup was so good tho! And the curry fishballs were my kids favorite. It's super cute inside and you can't miss the little baby statue right in the front. I'd probably come back to try the regular menu, not just the morning items. read more

The honey walnut shrimp was good with lots of sauce. Singaporean noodles were good, had a bit of a kick and curry taste? Not your usual chinese noodle flavor. A bit more elevated, it seemed. I came here around 9pm with my in-laws for a late dinner and the first thing I noticed was the contemporary decor inside. It's a great restaurant for pictures. The service here was quick. We were seated quickly and the food came very shortly after ordering. I enjoyed the green beans but they were cooked a little more than necessary. The Hainan chicken was alright but they were out of the yummy yellow rice, which was a downside of arriving so late. My husband got their baked bbq eel and shrimp spaghetti, which wasn't very good. Noodles were overcooked and the cheese felt too heavy. It's not a bad place to eat but I don't think I'd come back unless I was in the area and wanted a late night bite. read more

Wanted to try something new in the area for breakfast instead of Garden cafe in Castro Valley. It was okay, a little bland in my opinion for both bowls. The macaroni noodles were different- more chewy like a rice cake ? And the shredded pork bowl was more sour from the pickled vegetables. I liked the milk tea the most, definitely feels more authentic compared to other shops. The toast was good, wish it was a little crispier. The food is good, giving it a star, the service is decent, another star. I would have given a 4 star review overall, but there were ceramic shards in my plate of noodles, likely from the bottom of another plate that had been stacked on top of my plate before food was put on it. Take a look at the bottom of the plates, the foot rings for many of them are chipped/damaged and just waiting to chip off. I unfortunately did not get a picture, but the biggest of the shards was as long as my thumb and was sharp to boot. I was too surprised/shocked at finding such a big shard that I did not think to snap a photo, and the server took it away as soon as I told them there was a problem. There were smaller chips in there which I had crunched on initially which made me take a closer look at my food, otherwise I would have happily slurped that giant shard into my mouth with my next bite... and luckily I also wasn't giving any of this noodle dish to my toddler. I shudder to think what could have happened. The restaurant comped us for the noodle dish and apologized but I really hope they look into getting new dishes/being more careful. A nice place to go if you're craving Hong Kong style Chinese food. My wife and I came here as someone had recommended the Hainan chicken. We've been a couple times now on a Sunday lunchtime and both times it has been busy (15-20 minute wait) and the parking lot is super crowded and a bit of a challenge to find parking even though the cafe is on the outer edge of the shopping center. Inside things are nice- you don't feel cramped- and the menu has a lot of offerings. We've tried the Hainan chicken, fish with corn over spaghetti, creamy seafood pan fried udon, Thai style fried rice noodle, all of the have been pretty good. They've got HK snacks, desserts, and the classics (won ton noodle soup, jook, etc) here which hopefully we will be back to try soon! read more

Two large trees, fake trees, inside the actual restaurant! I would say it's also a fairly large cafe with at least 20+ plus tables maybe more so this place probably does get busier at peak times. They have a separate breakfast menu and lunch menu and possibly dinner menu. Will only be speaking of their breakfast menu. My sister got the Western breakfast which was a pork chop, hot dog, and scrambled egg. The drink was honey tea. The pork chop was really yummy and was pretty much tasted like a pork katsu with how it was breaded. The portion was a good size as well. My other sister got the braised beef soup with rice noodle. With an Ovaltine drink. The beef was tender. The broth mild. My sister noted it wasn't too salty. I ordered the ham an egg macaroni soup. My drink was a honey citrone iced. I really liked the texture and extra long tubular size of the macaroni. I was expecting like the macaroni you would see in a mac and cheese box so this was pleasantly different and new to me. The broth is very mild and simple. I like that they offer a drink with your breakfast entree. The portions are good. The service , our waitress was friendly. Saw this place on IG and decided to try. When you walk in the place seems a little chaotic. There are no signs anywhere besides the register. We quickly realized that a lot of people who entered were placing their names on a clipboard to the left. We did the same and the wait time was about 10min. The waiters call your name based on tables available. So 2-3 people usually get called up first. Bigger parties get called once tables are available. So if you have a bigger party on the weekend, be prepared to wait. You can also place an order at the register if you choose takeout, no need to wait. We got seated pretty fast and were handed menus right away. The waitress also brought us cups and water. The menu looked amazing. We ended up ordering the following: 1. Beef stew with crispy noodles - 7/10 we went with the pictured selection instead of rice and I think rice would have been q better option. The dish itself was huge and really good. 2. Tomyum spaghetti - 9/10 this portion was HUGE. The tomyum mixed with spaghetti was really good. 3. Hot coffee - 10/10 my husbands favorite. They sweeten this ahead of time. 4. Lemon honey tea - 10/10 wow was this drink good! 5. Cold cucumber salad - 10/10 huge portion but it came out after our meals. I will say the portions are shareable and extra plates can be given. if you go with one more person, I would suggest sharing. it is kind of hard to get a waiter during lunch time but they made sure we got everything we needed. This was my first time here and I was quickly sat, there was a lot of open tables and the decorations were pretty cool. The menu was very large and it was hard to decide on what to get. I decided to get the tom yum shrimp over baked spaghetti and the dish came out really fast. My dad really wanted to try this place and I was happy to oblige since I'd heard my close friend talk about this place often and how much her in-laws love it. I REALLY wanted to like Baby Cafe because I was craving that classic Hong Kong cafe comfort food moment... but wow, this takeout experience was all over the place. I ordered crispy noodle with beef, and somehow got crispy rice instead. The crispy rice honestly was not very good, it had a tough and weird texture and it wasn't crispy and tough to eat but I'll give credit where it's due, the beef itself was super tender and the sauce was actually really flavorful. That part definitely carried the dish even though it wasn't what I was expecting. Then there was the milk tea situation. They completely forgot to include it with my to-go order, and I honestly wouldn't have gotten it at all if I hadn't stopped and asked for it after I was handed the order. I had to walk back in to remind them, which was frustrating because takeout orders should at least be double checked before handing them out. The eggplant string beans were probably the best thing I ordered. Really tasty, good flavor, nice wok flavor too... but SO oily. Like, noticeably oily even for a dish that usually leans heavy. The won ton noodle soup was just okay. It was very middle of the road, probably a 3/5. Nothing terrible, nothing memorable either. Overall, the food had flashes of being really good, which honestly makes the mistakes even more frustrating. There's definitely potential here, but between the wrong order, missing drink, and inconsistent dishes, this visit ended up being more disappointing than satisfying. read more

The fish soup had a unique taste and came with ample fish too. Bad experience all around. Made reservations for 8 people, and when we arrived to check in, the guy in front says to wait and they are getting our table ready. They had a sign up list and I asked if I should put our name on it, and he said "no", we will sit you ASAP. We had a 1 pm reservation. Anyway, there were two parties of 8 that put their name on the list afterwards and our family was waiting 30 minutes already, and he sat the first party already before us. My son asked him again, and he said to wait again, and we gave him the benefit of the doubt. Anyway, we said if he sat the next party of 8 before us again, then that's really mess up. Guess what, he sat those parties first before us and completely forgot our reservation at 1pm. I finally got his attention and told him that we have been waiting for an hour and asked why he sat two parties without reservations and not us. He acted like he forgot and said next one will be us with no apologies whatsoever. We could have put our name in the list and got seated in less than 30 minutes but instead we waited for more than an hour, and to make things worse, they seated our family in two separate tables. I was so annoyed by this time, and we said like sure, that's fine. We were so hungry by this time. Ok the review, the place is cute with fake trees inside. Decent size, not a huge place. I've eaten here a few times and the food is always just okay every time I go. But after this experience, never again. Venus Tam Cafe is way better or go next door, Hanoi Chicken noodle soup. I think two stars is being generous here! Improvement suggestions, they should tell people there's no reservations and it's first come first serve basis. Just put name on the list and they go in order. Also, I felt discriminated here because I feel like he was nicer to the Chinese families. Great HK food. Great HK service. Baby cafe has been a go to restaurant for the last year for family gatherings and it is still going strong. The tables are packed during meal hours and very relaxed with a few tables off-hours and late night. My go to has been the baked pork chop over spaghetti in red sauce and cheese (I would love to hear the origination story of this dish if anyone has it). A fried egg comes customary with the dish so there's no more side ordering a fried egg and taking a 50/50 chance if it shows up like at other unmentioned restaurants.Other house favorites include the bibimbap and fried tofu. The newer meat rice cubes on the menu are no joke--I say get one to share--either the curry chicken or stewed beef are winners. read more

I have been on a HK cha chaan teng streak lately, so when we were visiting my hometown back in December, I noticed there was a HK cafe close by in the next town over. It was a Monday, so thankfully it wasn't too busy for lunch, and we were seated right away. I always try to practice my Cantonese whenever I visit any HK cafes, and this was no different. The staff were friendly, and I started off by ordering their signature iced baby milk tea, which comes in a cute little cup with ice shaped in baby form. It was authentic and strong, just as I like my HK milk tea. We were also served hot tea upon arrival. The 海南雞飯 was really catching my eye, especially after I had seen multiple people review the dish, so that's what I decided on for lunch. Meanwhile, my husband ordered the beef stew noodle soup. While we waited, we enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant, with its tall ceilings and bright interior. I loved the addition of the foliage as well. My 海南雞飯 was plated beautifully. I especially liked that there was plenty of ginger and scallion oil for me to coat my chicken in. I've been to restaurants where I run out before I finish my chicken. The peanuts were deliciously crispy and salty, and the rice was flavorful. The chicken itself was cold, smooth, and slightly gelatinous, which I didn't mind. The cucumbers were a nice touch on the side too. My husband's beef stew noodle soup came with a small bowl, so he served me some. It had a nice depth of flavor, and the beef was tender. The egg noodles were bouncy and delightful. This place has been in San Leandro for a year now and we finally had the chance to try it! It's on the side of the plaza and I had never noticed this was its location. Anywho we came on christmas eve eve for lunch and it was a busy parking lot with nearly every seat filled in this restaurant. The interior is modern and comfortable, perfect for taking pictures as they have a classic neon lights for their restaurant name, two decorative trees in the center along with other nice pieces. We were intrigued by the menu and ordered the beef brisket with crispy noodles and egg, a char siu with eggs and rice, crispy pork chop, fried squid, baked rice with eel and shrimp and a milk tea. Each dish punched above their weight and impressed. Everything was quite tender and made to perfection. The food comes out immediately. Service can be a wait as there were only two servers in a full restaurant so it took a long time to flag someone for the bill and another lengthy wait for someone to charge the card. This spot is in the plaza with a supermarket and a dim sum spot so while there is a lot of parking spaces, at certain times of the day, it can get hard to find parking or you'll have to park on the other side of the lot where there's less cars. The ambiance of the restaurant is really warm and welcoming. The tables and chairs all clean and modern. As soon as we sat down, someone came and gave us tea and menus to look at. The food was good with a decent portion size. Salt and pepper tofu was ok. They didn't fry it to the crispyness that I like but that's ok, I like the basil they add to it. It tasted like popcorn chicken but with tofu. Careful, it's hot. Their shrimp ho fun with scrambled eggs was saucy but slightly lacking in flavor. I added a lot of hot sauce to mine. The hot sauce they had on the table was good on everything. The winner of the dinner was their beef stew and crispy noodles. The noodles was so crispy that when you break into it, pieces was flying off the plate, I love that. The beef stew was super flavorful, juicy and tender with the right amount of salty to compliment the noodles. They give you the beef stew sauce on the side to add to your noodles as you go. I'm also a sucker for fried eggs so that was just a cherry on top. I can see myself coming back here for the beef stew whenever I'm craving it. Highly recommend. I had heard about this place and that it was pretty good so my husband I checked it out. The inside was decorated with a big tree in the middle, and the room was big and all of the tables were filled. We were able to get seated and were given hot black tea as we read over the menu. The menu did not have a lot of vegetable plates so I ended up ordering pineapple chicken (sweet and sour) and my husband ordered fish pan fried string beans. The sweet and sour chicken dish was okay but did not have very many pineapple slices. The fish dish was salty. So overall the two dishes were mediocre. Came here on a Friday night. It was decently busy, but we were seated immediately, which was a pleasant surprise. We ordered the baked pork chop, beef noodle soup, Hainan chicken rice and an iced milk tea. The portions were really big, which I appreciated. The baked curry pork chop was just okay, neither dry nor particularly juicy, just average overall. The beef noodle soup was good, and the milk tea was up to standard. Service was quick but not very friendly. There was no eye contact and our order wasn't repeated back to us. The server gave the impression that he was a bit annoyed. The Beef Curry Rice cube is their signature meal. The beef stew curry tastes fresh with crispy rice. The portion of the Sichuan Boiled fish with pickled cabbage and chilli is big. If you have 2 more people, you should try this dish. Oliver Leaf String bean with ground beef goes well with rice Salty fish chicken eggplant is my personal favorite. The clay pot makes the taste more unique. Highly recommend! The staffs are friendly, and the interior design is cute. They have two trees in the middle of the restaurant. read more

Beautiful restaurant . Makes me feel like I'm eating in a fairytale. The food is delicious and the drinks are huge. The hainan chicken rice plate is a popular choice and now I know why. Tender and juicy. The popcorn chicken is flavorful and delicious. My favorite drink is the red bean ice. It comes with ice cream on top. Service is friendly and efficient .
