Been to this restaurant several times. The HK style cafe food served here is good. The classic Bake pork chop rice/spaghetti is great. Among other items they offer are definitely delicious. One biggest gripe about this place that I have experienced so far is that for some unknown reason the restaurant never seems to have HK style egg waffle to offer. The item is on the menu and every time I visit this place the servers always tell me that they either have sold out for the day, or they run out of batter or some lame excuse. Honestly, it is kind of difficult to believe that for a restaurant such as this that they could run out or sell out of HK style egg waffle. Just find it hard to believe. Aside from this, I do recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants to eat some HK style cafe food in the San Leandro area.

Came here for dinner earlier tonight, party of 4, around 6pm. We got the beef stew dry noodle, the cha siu egg over rice, the ground pork green beans, and the hainan chicken with rice. Also got an iced HK style milk tea. Price for everything was around $80 after tax before tip. Pros: - Very easy parking, lots of spots available in the lot - pretty delicious food with pretty generous portions! Everything tasted pretty fresh and not over-rich and not over-MSG'ed. - Cute vibes inside - very Asian millennial and the trees inside are so cute haha. Very good placement since the tree close to the door blocks the door from shining blaring sun in your eyes if you're sitting facing the door - The milk tea was delicious??? - Pretty good service, food came out quickly, check came back quickly - Chinese-speaking and English-speaking friendly - Very easy to share dishes family style. I think we'll definitely be back!!

French Toast was always good. Baked Pork Chop Rice was tasteful too. Parking was easy. And service was as quick. Very clean store. Will come again.

Don't miss it, it's on the side of Hanoi Chicken Noodle. Cute inside! Fast service. Lots of options for food and drinks. Kind of pricey. The shrimp fried rice was probably my favorite as it surprisingly had some unagi pieces in it as well. Definitely one of the better seasoned fried rice I've had. The honey walnut shrimp was good with lots of sauce. Singaporean noodles were good, had a bit of a kick and curry taste? Not your usual chinese noodle flavor. A bit more elevated, it seemed. Hai Nan Chicken rice plate was yummy too. The chicken is served cold, just FYI. I thought our dishes were yummy. I definitely would recommend all the things we had. However, I don't know what gave me the bubble guts afterwards haha.

Wanted to try something new in the area for breakfast instead of Garden cafe in Castro Valley. It was okay, a little bland in my opinion for both bowls. The macaroni noodles were different- more chewy like a rice cake ? And the shredded pork bowl was more sour from the pickled vegetables. I liked the milk tea the most, definitely feels more authentic compared to other shops. The toast was good, wish it was a little crispier. We went around 10, we were the only ones there , the plane is very cute and aesthetically pleasing. Service was great and fast since we were the only ones. Loved that they played old throwback cpop songs. I'll probably only come back for lunch or dinner !

We came here this morning for my sister's birthday, her birthday breakfast. We came fairly early in the morning around 9:00 so it was not busy at all. The decor inside the restaurant was really cute. Two large trees, fake trees, inside the actual restaurant! I would say it's also a fairly large cafe with at least 20+ plus tables maybe more so this place probably does get busier at peak times. They have a separate breakfast menu and lunch menu and possibly dinner menu. Will only be speaking of their breakfast menu. My sister got the Western breakfast which was a pork chop, hot dog, and scrambled egg. The drink was honey tea. The pork chop was really yummy and was pretty much tasted like a pork katsu with how it was breaded. The portion was a good size as well. My other sister got the braised beef soup with rice noodle. With an Ovaltine drink. The beef was tender. The broth mild. My sister noted it wasn't too salty. I ordered the ham an egg macaroni soup. My drink was a honey citrone iced. I really liked the texture and extra long tubular size of the macaroni. I was expecting like the macaroni you would see in a mac and cheese box so this was pleasantly different and new to me. The broth is very mild and simple. I like that they offer a drink with your breakfast entree. The portions are good. The service , our waitress was friendly. Fyi, for those with little kids , they have high chairs and we got kid safe drink cups. The food is good, came out hot and fresh and fast. Would like to come back to try their lunch and dinner menus.

I love coming here. Parking is easy. The food hits. The baked pork chop rice is always my favorite. I asked for extra sauce! Yum yum. The milk tea is good too.

I came here around 9pm with my in-laws for a late dinner and the first thing I noticed was the contemporary decor inside. It's a great restaurant for pictures. The service here was quick. We were seated quickly and the food came very shortly after ordering. I enjoyed the green beans but they were cooked a little more than necessary. The Hainan chicken was alright but they were out of the yummy yellow rice, which was a downside of arriving so late. My husband got their baked bbq eel and shrimp spaghetti, which wasn't very good. Noodles were overcooked and the cheese felt too heavy. It's not a bad place to eat but I don't think I'd come back unless I was in the area and wanted a late night bite.

Saw this place on IG and decided to try. When you walk in the place seems a little chaotic. There are no signs anywhere besides the register. We quickly realized that a lot of people who entered were placing their names on a clipboard to the left. We did the same and the wait time was about 10min. The waiters call your name based on tables available. So 2-3 people usually get called up first. Bigger parties get called once tables are available. So if you have a bigger party on the weekend, be prepared to wait. You can also place an order at the register if you choose takeout, no need to wait. We got seated pretty fast and were handed menus right away. The waitress also brought us cups and water. The menu looked amazing. We ended up ordering the following: 1. Beef stew with crispy noodles - 7/10 we went with the pictured selection instead of rice and I think rice would have been q better option. The dish itself was huge and really good. 2. Tomyum spaghetti - 9/10 this portion was HUGE. The tomyum mixed with spaghetti was really good. 3. Hot coffee - 10/10 my husbands favorite. They sweeten this ahead of time. 4. Lemon honey tea - 10/10 wow was this drink good! 5. Cold cucumber salad - 10/10 huge portion but it came out after our meals. I will say the portions are shareable and extra plates can be given. if you go with one more person, I would suggest sharing. it is kind of hard to get a waiter during lunch time but they made sure we got everything we needed. I will be back to try the ovaltine French toast!

finally checked out cha chaan teng, it has a mix of comfort food, drinks, and casual dishes the space is pretty cozy with a unique setup, and it's a nice place to come with friends or family overall, a solid spot if you're craving Hong Kong-style cafe food without going into SF. would come back to try more dishes next time

    Jeff C.

A nice place to go if you're craving Hong Kong style Chinese food. My wife and I came here as someone had recommended the Hainan chicken. We've been a couple times now on a Sunday lunchtime and both times it has been busy (15-20 minute wait) and the parking lot is super crowded and a bit of a challenge to find parking even though the cafe is on the outer edge of the shopping center. Inside things are nice- you don't feel cramped- and the menu has a lot of offerings. We've tried the Hainan chicken, fish with corn over spaghetti, creamy seafood pan fried udon, Thai style fried rice noodle, all of the have been pretty good. They've got HK snacks, desserts, and the classics (won ton noodle soup, jook, etc) here which hopefully we will be back to try soon!

Parking is available in the shopping center. Always fun eating under a tree inside the restaurant. We were greeted and seated quickly. All the waitstaff carry portable computers to put your order in quickly. Always love the generous portion of hainan rice dish. I ordered the hainan chicken plate: big chunks of chicken, hainan rice, peanuts appetizer and the lovely ginger scallion sauce. The spices make this dish delicious. I needed a box to take home leftovers. The other dish we ordered was beef stew. This tastes so classic with the subtle 5 spice flavor shining throughout this dish. The spices are not overwhelming. Probably could cook the beef tendons longer and they were quite chewy.

This was my first time here and I was quickly sat, there was a lot of open tables and the decorations were pretty cool. The menu was very large and it was hard to decide on what to get. I decided to get the tom yum shrimp over baked spaghetti and the dish came out really fast. I was concerned that the tomyum flavor was going to overwhelm the spaghetti but it didn't and it was really good. I would definitely come back and try other dishes.

It captures that authentic cha kaan teng vibe without needing to drive across the Bay. The Chicken Chow Fun here hits the spot. The rice noodles have great texture--tender with just enough chew--and they get a proper sear in the wok for that subtle smokiness (wok hei). The chicken slices are well-marinated and smooth, and the bean sprouts provide a fresh crunch that balances out the dish nicely. It's generous, comforting, and not overly greasy compared to many other local takeout options. To wash it down, their Hong Kong Milk Tea delivers on authenticity. It is strong, smooth, and brewed with that distinct, bold black tea base balanced out by sweet evaporated milk. Ordering it iced keeps the flavor rich without watering down as you drink it. The only reason it knocks off one star is that service can be a bit slow during peak dinner hours, and the dining space gets tight quickly. But for quality, everyday comfort food and a classic Hong Kong tea fix in the neighborhood, Garden Cafe is consistently a great choice.

Quality/Quantity - My daughter craved Pho so we came to this place. It has been a VERY long time since we ate here. Actually, the previous time was with the previous owners/business. Today we got the following: Fish Ball Noodle Soup with Pho Noodles - Of course my daughter's choice and with NO veggies?!?! This looked so plain... I know I could have made this better at home! My wife shared some of her wontons with my daughter to add to the flavor. See pictures. I am sure this is NOT what my daughter had in mind when she craved Pho. This was much more of a "Chinese" dish rather than Vietnamese. Update - My daughter mentioned that she could not find regular thinly sliced beef pho as an option. And she thought fish balls were beef balls... Wonton Noodle Soup - Also as plain as my daughter's dish. Again, more of a Chinese dish rather than Vietnamese. #24 Fried Pork Chop, Chicken, Egg with Steamed Rice - Fried fresh and perfectly done! My pork chop and chicken were 5 stars! Everything else was just okay. Ambiance - Very small local business. Decent size parking lot, but not enough spaces for this busy mall. We got lucky and got a space fairly close to the restaurant. Not stressed as we planned to shop at Foodnet after lunch. Service - Had to ask for everything. Hard to get their attention as they just hung around the first booth talking and talking and talking. The hardest worker was the runner, probably the only employee that was not family...? Price - $66 + more generous tip than deserved or earned. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success at this location since 2024. And your previous location in Oakland, etc. The previous location was known for their chicken, chicken noodle soup, etc.

We have been here before, but last time I got so caught up enjoying the food that I forgot to leave a review, so I made sure to snap some pictures and write about it this time. Since the menu is simple and straightforward, service is quick and efficient. Even though it was not overly busy during our weekday dinner, I can see how it might fill up fast on weekends, but their fast turnaround means you never have to wait long. Here is what we ordered: #1 Chicken Pho (with bone and egg noodles): Definitely the winner for depth of flavor. The bone-in chicken makes the broth taste fantastic, rich, and deeply flavorful. #5 Boneless Chicken Noodles (with egg noodles): A great option if you do not want to deal with bones, though the bone-in version is still slightly more flavorful. On a server's enthusiastic recommendation, who told us, "Good choice, it is my favorite too," we added a fried sunny-side-up egg to the soup. It was a fun addition, though optional. Fresh Accompaniments: Both items came with a generous shared plate of fresh bean sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeños, and limes. Pro tip: throw the basil and bean sprouts in while the soup is piping hot for the best aroma and flavor. Mo Hanh (Green Onion Oil): Both soups also came with a side of Mo Hanh, which is chopped green onion with oil and a pinch of salt. It was amazing to have with the chicken, and I really loved that combination of flavors. Practical Details: Parking: Located in a plaza with ample parking. Being a weekday, we scored a spot right in front. Seating: Plenty of tables inside, though it can get busy during peak hours.
